i want to pump the magma to the surface for a defense mechanism so if we are ever attacked i can just flood the overworld with magma
i dont know how to use pumps tho so i will probably just end up killing everyone

Yeah, use channeling. If you make the channel in the right order you can make a big enough gap between the hole and the floor above the channel that you can not have your room flood, but flood the one below it.
If that's too hard, just sacrifice a fish cleaner.

I know this is late but I'd just like to apologize for my turn. I didn't really do a whole much other than "clean up" the fort's population. I got a little caught up in the narrative that I was making, and didn't really have a goal set other than MURDER CHILDREN, though that should make things run a little bit faster so I guess it's not a wasted turn by any means

I didn't make it very clear in my reports what I actually did do so I,ll rattle a few things off: I reorganized labors, nicknamed all of the dwarfs, and named soldiers after former overseers, made armor and expanded the military, expanded our mechanism industry, created a mass execution chamber, and smoothed a bunch of stuff.
Also something I thought was hilarious but didn't share: I named all of the dwarfs at the beginning (fuck children) including myself, who I named after the mayor. As it turned out, I discovered half way through the turn that "I" was a vampire. I thought this was hilarious because the vampire was currently only targeting children, and at that point in the narrative I established myself as a total child hater. Another funny thing, I tried to kill the vampire by drowning, as I documented but I remembered too late that vampires cannot drown. I nearly lost my bookkeeper trying that.
Everything in my turn was true, except for the backstory of DeathDoom where he killed the real overseer, I made that up; but it sounded cool so eh.
I'm writing on a phone so sorry if that this long winded, I literally cant see what I'm typing.
Notes for next overseer:
- Finish off DeathDoom, he's marked as death row on his profession so he shouldn't be hard to spot.
- There are two forgotten beasts in the caverns. Try not to get everyone killed.
- The room with all the spears in it on level -4 or so is the "daycare" There are probably still bodies in there, so make sure that they get buried.
- If you kill all the nobles, spare Worm. He's just a bookkeeper!
- Don't forget that temperature is still turned off (I think)
