Are danger rooms how other succession forts got such ridiculously powerful military dwarves? Or was there some other reason for that because my dwarves usually stay at average skill with military stuff.
Are danger rooms how other succession forts got such ridiculously powerful military dwarves? It's really the only way to train your militia. Even practicing on prisoners with training weapons takes forever now.
Toady doesn't view them as cheating, and tbh, it's kind of like a realistic dodging trap, building reflexes and so on. How it trains weapon skill isn't so clear, but I'm fine with danger rooms.
There was an accident. The external hard drive I had the Succession game on was damaged, the usb port has fallen out of place and into the device. I can't get at the game anymore.
Oh shit. What's our contingency plan?
I would guess we just pretend that my turn never happened. Revert back to as it was before my turn, I still have the mediafire link I downloaded from. I might be able to get the hard drive back though. I'm in Halifax for the next two days though (Capital of my Provence)

Neo, just go ahead and do it so we can keep continuity.
I'm sorry for the trouble Liem, I've PM'd the file to Neo. If you want another shot, Liem, I can put you right after Neo.
I've got the file now, but I need a bit to come up with an arrival report.
Well, we've made 4 turns or so, so it's getting pretty promising, despite any issues so far. We can make this work, guys!
I will ruin everything
If everything you mean those filthy elves' plans to stop our wood production industry with a healthy dose of magma then that is fine.
If everything you mean those filthy elves' plans to stop our wood production industry with a healthy dose of magma then that is fine.
I killed the elves in another timeline
Arrival Report, Olin Kodor, Treatywhispers, 29 Opal, 263 My discovery of Treatywhispers could only have been as big an accident as where it was founded. But it was a fortunate accident. Only a few days earlier I was set out on a “voluntary” “expedition” with a small group. They gave us some made up reason and sent us off without enough rations to get a day away. When I realized members from our group were going missing even faster than our food was, I split. I just ran. I didn't know where they were. I didn't know why Debim was looking so menacingly happy. I just wanted to leave; I obviously hadn't been wanted back home, and I would rather take my chances with the bogeymen then who they had sent me with. I wandered for a long time before a bolt shot past me. A quick glance saw a woman wielding a crossbow behind a tree. Another danger I knew nothing about. But I ended up walking towards whoever shot it with my arms up, too tired and hungry to care what happened to me. My luck had finally come along. The shooter introduced herself as Zan Nishakum. Not normally a hunter, she was happy to have an excuse to head back to the village, and I was that excuse. I got there at a busy time, so no one noticed the stranger among their ranks. The previous overseer had just retired after something awful happened. No clue what it was, but they said it had been exactly a year after he arrived unannounced like I had. I didn't know why, but they declared me overseer.
Any new weird developments with the fort?
Any new weird developments with the fort?
I won't be able to do Spring until tomorrow, so nothing other than that I managed to completely miss the weresquirrel in the last turn.
I guess new seeds are generated in this game then [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] Or "random seeds" I suppose is more accurate
I guess new seeds are generated in this game then [editline]13th August 2012[/editline] Or "random seeds" I suppose is more accurate
Unless he performed the exact same actions as Liem, yes. In my experience with games, if you load a save and perform a sequence of actions equivalent to one you've done before you'll get the same output.
Spring Report 3 Granite, 253 Well, if I'm going to be overseer, I should get to work. First order of business is fixing these walls. 10 Granite, 253 Today I found out that we have a trade depot. It's pretty far away from the fort, so we may need a new one. I'm not a fan of letting wagons roam free inside, so it'll have to stay outside our gates for now. 17 Granite, 253 Something has felt off the whole time I've been here. Now I've figured it out. We have been sober since I got here! This is a disaster! Half of our citizens are hanging out at the river, but I think I have a way to make that more efficient. 20 Granite, 253 While more liquor is brewing, I've brought the river inside our walls so it's at least less time out of the day spent to go get a drink. 25 Granite, 253 We have enough to drink again, but everyone is still hanging out at the river. I keep telling them that water is bad for them and they should come inside and drink some wine, but I think they've gotten hooked on the clear stuff. 11 Slate, 253 Things seem to have been going pretty well lately. I talked to a random citizen to see if anything was needed. I guess a well is what we're missing. We have literal tons of gold. I think I've found my chance to really wow everyone. I just need a good source of water. 25 Slate, 253 A group of migrants passing through decided to stay. We're now up to 71 of us here, including a few recent births. 27 Slate, 253 All the parts for the new well have been forged. They're not the best, but they're so shiny no one will notice. 6 Felsite, 253 Mosus has finally snapped. He's just doing this weird demonic chanting thing. I'm hoping that we can ignore him and he'll go away. 7 Felsite, 253 Mosus just kicked Id out of a crafting workshop. He's still chanting "Nab... asa... sol...", but Id is back to work on a different one. 14 Felsite, 253 The well is complete. Through a series of channels I don't quite understand, our miners brought in water from the river through the bottom of it, miraculously not killing us all in the process. 16 Felsite, 253 Mosus made something. It doesn't seem like it was worth all the trouble. He shredded two logs to make this thing. We need charcoal, not spiky necklaces! 19 Felsite, 253 The elves are coming. I hope they can find the new trade depot. Also, I hope they like things made out of rock, because we probably have enough to buy everything worth anything from them. Meanwhile, our broker sleeps on the job.
Spiky Necklaces I want one
I'll join this if there is still time.
I'll join this if there is still time.
There's always time, you're on. I'm gonna tack on to the OP that slots are always available.
Summer Report 2 Hematite, 253 Kumil finally got up and went to the trade depot. I had heard rumors of their caravans bringing fantastic creatures and rare drinks, but they only really had wood and cloth. And a bear. Hopefully buying the bear will tell them we want something exotic to train. 11 Hematite, 253 I think we have enough wood for a while now. We've been heavy users of charcoal, we've been furnishing bedrooms, but it still keeps piling up. 20 Hematite, 253 This summer sure has been... eventless? Everyone's happy, we're wealthy, and we're good for food and drink. This seems like a good time to improve our walls. 26 Hematite, 253 Finally, some excitement! Of course, our militia will most likely dispatch the thief with ease, but when the fishers started screaming about it, I felt a rush of excitement. 27 Hematite, 253 Of course. That kobold realized we were on to him and ran beyond our reach. At least everything's safe. 7 Malachite, 253 Apparently I'm not good enough for the citizens, since they just elected some other guy "mayor", and now he wants a palace. He's also banned something we don't produce. 11 Malachite, 253 One of the miners told me he can feel an ancient beast lurking in the caverns, that has calmed down now after years of rage. I think he's spent too much time with the gold. 13 Malachite, 253 Now he's going on about the "Bat Men". It makes for an interesting story, but someone needs to bring him back to reality. 27 Malachite, 253 Our mayor's room is complete! Now hopefully he'll stay in there and not make any more mandates about what we can and can't do. 7 Galena, 253 Remember what I said about the miner "feeling" some giant beast? Well, he wasn't kidding. They actually SAW it today. It looked pretty beat up already, but it was already covered in blood. I'm sure the militia could take it down, but we have a river between us and it right now. I'm calling them in, anyways. 13 Galena, 253 Our militia wimped out. I told them to go kill the thing, and they ran back up to the barracks. Let's hope the door holds. 24 Galena, 253 The worst has happened. The door is smashed. The beast is in. We have one chance to stop it before it leaves us all as cinders. 25 Galena, 253 The battle ended. The beast's wounds were already too great, and it only left a trail of its own blood through the fortress (it helped that its fire cauterized any injuries from it). Our stonecutter has been laid to rest in the cemetery. 28 Galena, 253 The hunters found the new caverns inviting, and I can't get them back in, so it's going to have a door instead of a wall like I wanted. One of them found something interesting, assuming no one falls in. Remind me not to say things are getting boring ever again.
Bad news regarding my place, I've just found out that I'm going to be in Ireland from the 21st to the 30th, so you might want to shunt me down a place or three if I'm not able to do it. It came totally out of the blue, sorry. I'll still take my turn if possible, though!

Fall Report 8 Limestone, 253 I don't know what Olon's issue is, but he is not happy. Talking to him, I can see why. He lost all of his family here recently. I had thought only the stonecrafter (who is still "missing") had died recently, but it turns out there were others. I'm going to get him a nice room to cheer him up. 11 Limestone, 253 Olon is back to tantruming, and still hasn't checked out his room. I think he'll like it. 17 Limestone, 253 The cage traps set outside our cavern entrance keep catching crundles. Normally we would have to kill them, but they're pretty tame already, so maybe we can start using them for meat. 24 Limestone, 253 Most of the crundles we caught are now trained. I don't trust them around anyone yet, but soon they will be tame enough to be let inside. 28 Limestone, 253 Another kobold thief today. They never learn, do they? Olon ran off to kill it. I was hoping it would take his mind off of things, but the thief got away. 3 Sandstone, 253 Maybe I should take Olon out of the militia. He's stopped moping around so much, but he's been bragging about this "fight" he "won". He failed to hit a duck. Who walked up to him expecting feed. 10 Sandstone, 253 Migrants came to our town. There's now over 100 of us here! 16 Sandstone, 253 Olon yelled at the mayor about how awful things are. The mayor wasn't happy about it, but Olon sure was. 21 Sandstone, 253 The chief medical dwarf actually saw one of those "bat people" today. I trust him about it much more than that crazy miner. 1 Timber, 253 A memorial to the beast that attacked us has been erected in the cemetery. 6 Timber, 253 With the new migrants, the bedrooms are in need of an expansion. The dormitory currently has 24 free beds, but everyone is happier with their own room. 17 Timber, 253 A caravan has come for us from the mountainhomes. We have enough goods to trade for anything we want. 20 Timber, 253 Okay, Tirist, we get it. You like helms. We'll keep them here for you. 29 Timber, 253 The trading went well, although they did not bring any food for us.
Winter Report (Part 1, I have a ton to do today) 3 Moonstone, 253 Iden, how did you get stuck up here? She climbed a 10 foot wall, child in hand, just to stand up there complaining about the rain and how there's nothing to drink. 7 Moonstone, 253 Finally got her down. Somehow she also got a log up there with her, along with some blood that looks like it was from that beast we killed. I'm fairly certain it hasn't come back from the dead. So far, at least. 10 Moonstone, 253 I got a copy of the liaison's trade requests. I'll have some quivers made as soon as possible. 11 Moonstone, 253 12 Moonstone, 253 Ezum is hiding in a clothier's shop, but he's brought some material in with him. He's up to something good, I hope. 16 Moonstone, 253 He's started drawing pictures instead of talking now. I think he needs some wood, some stone, and a lot of cloth. 26 Moonstone, 253 And now he's hammering and sewing away at a surprisingly beautiful project. Meanwhile, I've been working on getting more tables and chairs set up in the dining room.
Not sure when my turn is supposed to start, but I get home on Sunday. Won't be able to play till then
