I'll be finishing up tomorrow, but you don't need to start right away. You have 10 days after it's sent to you, so you should be fine with Sunday.
Not sure when my turn is supposed to start, but I get home on Sunday. Won't be able to play till then
Not a problem at all, I'm not going to count the days that you're not around because it wouldn't be fair to you.
Bad news, this year seems to be cursed. My laptop just had its fan fail completely, but I managed to get the save off of it and onto my old laptop (which is a lot slower, so it'll take a bit longer to get this done).
Something doesn't want us to finish this year
Something doesn't want us to finish this year
Well, meanwhile, I'm hoping to lift the curse by finishing, even if I need to go through three laptops to do it. It's just taking forever, since a week and a half in-game has been an hour so far.
Well, at this rate we're definitely going to be done by Sunday. What's the frame rate for your game?

Around 70 when nothing is happening, but it's gone down to 50 a few times. I'm just used to my normal laptop being at 150 the whole time. I turned the G_FPS_CAP way down when I turned the FPS display on, though.

Winter Report (Part 2)
2 Opal, 253

Ezum is back to his usual self, and he left us a present.

It's a nice bag, yeah, but I don't have anywhere to put it. It's too nice to just fill it up with seeds!
4 Opal, 253
We now have over 50 bedrooms furnished. Accounting for couples sleeping in the same room, that should be at least 70 of us with assigned rooms. With the thirty something beds in the dormitory, no one will ever have to sleep on the floor again, unless they really want to.
7 Opal, 253

Someone apparently didn't make it to the graveyard, and now ghastly cries echo through our halls.
8 Opal, 253
We have to put an end to this ghost baby business. I've ordered a slab memorializing Morul to be added to the graveyard. I hope he'll notice it.
16 Opal, 253
The ghost baby continues to haunt us. Apparently no one here felt like they had good enough handwriting for its memorial. The thing never learned to read! How could it know?
20 Opal, 253
The memorial is now finished.

4 Obsidian, 253

Today a gremlin was spotted coming up through the mines. It's a shame these things always happen on their time off, but the militia was called in to fight it off.
5 Obsidian, 253
Before they could get there, it ran off, only managing to slash at a kitten.
19 Obsidian, 253

A thief got past some of our traps and doors, and trapdoors. Then he saw a kitten and ran. Eiher something is not right with Kobolds, or they know something I don't know.
20 Obsidian, 253
And now another thief has come and gone.
23 Obsidian, 253

We've struck more iron! Now we can make some real armor.
25 Obsidian, 253
Now our miners have found coal as well! If only they could find something like limestone to make steel with.
27 Obsidian, 253
Things aren't looking so great right now.

There is a troll rampaging through the caverns. The militia should put a stop to it.
29 Obsidian, 253
My time as overseer seems to be up. They've been talking about someone new coming in, and at this point I might welcome a replacement. The threats to our fortress have been ramping up. When the year started, we got a Kobold thief rarely, but recently at least two came at us. Earlier we had crundles coming in from the depths. Now we have trolls. I don't know what challenges the next overseer will face, but I just hope I can get far enough away before they get here.

If I unlimit my computer I get something around 600-700 Fps. Shitty Laptop
So 70 isn't that bad, Considering I always play at 100
Wow, I just realized how sad Olon's life was this year. He lost both his wife and child at the same time, and when he was finally looking up again, getting a fancy new room and going back to work, he's struck down by a troll.
Liem, do you want to give it another shot? Person doesn't come back till Sunday.
Liem, do you want to give it another shot? Person doesn't come back till Sunday.
I'm busy right now, Stick me on the list at the end
I am back!!!!! So someone is supposed to send me the save, right?
I am back!!!!! So someone is supposed to send me the save, right?
Neo put it in his last report, which you'll find on the previous page
I feel dumb
Alright, going to start playing now.
Arrival Report + Status Report: Date, Year
My name is Olon Thedakoslan, and I have been sent to this decrepit settlement on behalf of the King to investigate the exiles. Many have been sent here for their crimes, others for their laziness or chronic soberness, and all of them have been forsaken by the outside world. Only a couple of caravans arrive per year, at most (half of them are Elven! Yuck.)
My objective is to investigate how a fortress full of the detritus of society could possibly survive this long, let alone create and export large amounts of wealth. The King fears the power this Fortress could eventually wield, and I am here to inform him of what goes on in this Fortress.
I have infiltrated the Fortress, pretending to be one of the many Fishery workers present in this Armok forsaken place.
As instructed, I have compiled an analysis and map of the settlement, in case the King wants this place wiped out.
First off, the outside structure itself is an eyesore, with very little symmetry or reason to it. The trade depot is outside the main entrance to the fortress, in case they want to raid it, I bet. There is a random hole that is probably for killing any Nobles dumb enough to show up here. There is also a canal that lets the Dwarves drink water from inside the Fortress. Bastards. This is my rendition of the fortress:
Next up, the floor immediately underneath the entrance is a random assortment of production centres and a basic farm + dining area:
Further down, more areas of production, nothing too interesting

The bedrooms are not terrible, though the dwarves here let a disproportionate amount of unfortunate people sleep in a communal dormitory. Ugh.
Below that are only caverns and a few gold deposits. Here is some more information about the fort that we can use to subvert them, if it is needed.

There is only one problem with my information gathering assignment. As I was leaving with my folder full of information, some dwarf, the Leader of this place, bumped into me while running out of the Fortress. I dropped all my files, and he eyed them suspiciously. After a moment of thinking, he told me that anybody with such good information gathering skills must be the best person to run this hell hole. He ran away before I could say anything.
The rest of the dwarves are looking at me now for orders. This letter may be a bit late. They are keeping me here.
The bedrooms are not terrible, though the dwarves here let a disproportionate amount of unfortunate people sleep in a communal dormitory. Ugh.
Yeah, I got tired of designating them after so long. I figured the overflow would end up there, which was already also designated as a hospital.
Communal dorms can arguably be better as nobles don't get hissy over them, even if they're made of solid gold with diamond windows and so on afaik.
Also, so much faster to build and vamp proof :v:
Sure simple bedrooms are doable and easy to make vamp proof, it's just so much less effort to dorm!
Yeah, I got tired of designating them after so long. I figured the overflow would end up there, which was already also designated as a hospital.
That is what I do as well. I was just being in character and stuff.

Just out of curiosity, where does that up/down stairway lead near the main staircase?
That goes straight down until it hits the caverns, where it takes a detour (with a door I added), and then continues down through the next caverns. I didn't add it, but I think it might get in the way of our framerate eventually.
Frame rate on my computer has been ok so far. Going to make a report tomorrow and do one once a day.
Frame rate on my computer has been ok so far. Going to make a report tomorrow and do one once a day.
You can probably raise the FPS and GFPS from the settings I had it on if you want it to go faster.
Spring Report, 21st Granite, 254
Part 1
On my first day as new Overseer, I was assigned the office of the previous ruler. I decided to look through any of his remaining documents. I will continue the projects of the previous ruler, in order to not seem suspicious. My ultimate end goal is to make this place fit for Royal Rulership.
This is what I found on the Overseer's desk:

[editline]21st August 2012[/editline]
Part 2:
On the 22nd of Granite, I attempted the easiest thing on the previous Overseer's list: the moat. Turns out any attempt at a moat would flood the entire fortress with infinite river water. Oh well.
The next best thing would probably be extremely badly made siege weapons. I ordered the building of a Siege Workshop.
4th of Slate
Siege Workshop is done, and I have been trying to do everything the old Overseer wanted. I found a note about "flooding the world with lava" along with pictures of the King getting burned alive. Disturbing ravings of an insane rebel. It's clear to me now that this Fortress has gone Rogue. I will have to somehow restore Royal authority.
The workers are busy cutting down trees and uprooting plants all around the fortress. The extra wood is to supply the massive production orders I have made to tire all the lazy workers of this place. The manager has foolishly validated every single one.

In addition, a strawberry farm was added at the entrance to the Fort, and a new area for the poultry to lay their eggs has been carved out. Speaking of breeding, it has been impossible to do anything without these people constantly telling me about their babies. Why are these dwarves so fertile?
I started to carve out the new bedrooms (meaning I told the miners to do so) on the 8th of Felsite, but designating all of them got too difficult...

Adding more beds to the dorm is close enough.

On the 12th of Felsite, Zuntir Moziroddom was taken by some sort of mood. The next day, he took a carpenter's workshop.
On the same day, an Elven Caravan arrived. I arranged to sell a large amount of gold bars and various useless trinkets (as we usually do).

Fuuuuuuuuck. I must have accidentally slipped something in there that was made of wood. I seized everything I wanted to buy. Fucking elves. They also said something about revenge for the trees we cut down. Oh well.
Zuntir finally started building stuff on the 19th of Felsite. About time.

The 24th of Felsite saw the creation of the greatest thing ever. How cold I ever hold any emotion besides love for this place?

It is the end of Spring. I will leave this Beast for the next report.
Loved the nod to the events when Litast was in control, what an insane bastard she was.
Almost my turn. make sure to PM me when it is, I might not notice otherwise
What crappy artefacts we got haha
There will be a Summer report some time within the next 12 hours.
Summer Report:
The first half of the Summer swam by due to hilarious amounts of Forgotten beast and Goblin invasions. The military managed quite well to hold off the countless enemies assaulting this nearly 200-strong Fortress. Unfortunately, very little of this was recorded.
So I start at the 4th of Galena. In which the production and eating areas of the fort are almost completely filled to capacity. One cannot get around, no matter the expansions I carve out.

Adding on more rooms for stockpiles is only a temporary solution. I know a better answer, but the miners are not going fast enough to complete the secret project by the end of Summer. I have been working at it since Spring but I have not mentioned it until now. There was on more thing on the desk of the previous Overseer. It was a note with one word and one symbol, but it spoke volumes at the intentions of this fort.

Do they intend to get away from the King? Withdraw from society? Seal themselves away from the sun's harsh and undwarvenly glare? If so, this would be an advantage for the Kingdom. We could simply seal them off and never have to worry about them again! If we have the budget, we could even pour lava down the passage into the stairway! I am getting giddy with ideas! I am ranting too much. Too bad nothing is going on here. It is late summer and all that is new are the catapults in the entry way to the fort. I set them to "Fire at will". It is good practice and also a fun thing to watch on the more boring days.
[editline]22nd August 2012[/editline]
And just like that, Summer is over. That was honestly the least eventful season ever. Should begin moving the Fortress down to the caverns by Winter.
