Done. [editline]7th September 2012[/editline] TM Gmod's about to hit his limit, but he's only got one more so I'll just let him finish whenever(in a reasonable timeframe of course)
Definitely doing it tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Winter Report 3rd Moonstone Told the outpost liason to bring us more seeds for plump helmets and to bring us supplies to make soap. more infection spreads, this outbreak is out of control... Getting some more dorfs to get cleaning and get these bodies outside! Okay, we seem to have got the situation under control, the last 'patient' is isolated and we're waiting for the shouting and scratching to stop before we pick a hole through and check if he has passed... 14th Moonstone the child is confirmed to have passed. we've dismantled the quarantine shelter and our doctors are concentrating on the brightside... only 14 dwarves died. 1st Opal a masterstroke occured to me while I slept, I saw a vision of a great system that lures monsters over a pool of water full of our infected dead and drops them to their doom from slow, stinking death.. I've begun to modify the south entrance accordingly to allow us to put this idea in to action someday... while still allowing trade of course... Soon we'll tap the river for our 'moat' 12th Opal Lots of dwarfs getting apprehensive about the moat of diseased water, thinking it'll send the wrong message or cause our downfall or raise plague victims, lots of terms like "marooned" and "trapped" are being thrown around without care or attention! I will not debase my self by considering these complaints worthy. 22nd Opal I've sketched plans for the bridge system, make sure the trade bridge is up when the enemy comes , and lower the trap bridge when the enemy is on it! Both levers are in the meeting hall of course.. Hopefully noone confuses them... 28th Opal a plague victim haunts the hospital where he passed, moaning and wailing about healthcare procedure and general lack of hygiene that probably caused their death... 1st Obsidian The great flooding begins, the moat's already becoming a deadly soup of fearsome proportions, this is what I'll be remembered for! 3rd Obsidian By Armok's name! I have no idea how to deal with this effectively, We may just seal off this area... 4th Obsidian It's just.......... waiting. 5th Obsidian The merchants leave, but favour fording the river to using our bridge... Odd. If the current picks up this could be rewarding... I'll order a wider bridge to be made nearby. 10th Obsidian A few dwarves have gone missing in the caves, I fear the forgotten beast is prowling and picking us off... We've yet to track it's movements or mount an effective defence... just found the remains... 21st Obsdian : FROM "JOURNAL OF OBSIDIAN GUARD PATROL - WINTER" We found a kill of the beast. While patrolling. Investigating we discovered this was Limul, the weaponsmith... He's covered in blood and poisonous extract. retrieval not possible. recommending new patrol path be organised away from this area. 23rd Obsidian The people grow restless under my overseer-ship. They protest and chant asking what I'll do about the beast, I'm packing... I can't fight that, I wont fight it, and it's only a matter of time until it arrives in the fortress and dooms us all... I'm getting out while I still can... 26th Obsidian The protests are getting louder and more frequent, I'm packed and ready to go, as soon as new spring comes, I'll make a dash and leave my overseer duties to whoever realises I'm gone first. I'm leaving a note on my desk stating this. 1st Granite , 256 Note on my desk: "GOOD LUCK WITH THE POISONOUS TORTOISE BEAST." End Of Year Report [editline]9th September 2012[/editline] http://www.mediafire.com/?y3lyl84wjyhu26f Whoever is next, here's the save. Have FUN
Downloaded, will try to have arrival + spring up on Monday. [editline]9th September 2012[/editline] What wizardry is this? :v:

Have fun who ever gets to deal wit the beast
Arrival Well, I don't know what I did to piss off the king at home, but seems I found myself on a one way trip to Treatywhispers. I mean, I wasn't tapping into his private reserve or anything. As I staggered across a bridge over a moat of foul water, marching through the gates, I noticed that there was a rather large commune of dwarves, all in one space. Don't know what's wrong with them, this might be even more of a madhouse than I expected. [t]http://i.imgur.com/LIKTI.png[/t] Must have been 30 of them, all cramped together. Some kind of game, a bundle perhaps? A dwarf ran up to me, beard unkempt and filled with lice. He muttered something about foul creatures in the depths, and how he'd kill for a drink, then ran off. Well, I'm the overseer for now, so I started my way down the staircase, finding my way into a tunnel, I pulled over another dwarf and asked where I could find the recordkeeper. He grunted, gave me directions, and I started to weave my way around the tangled array of tunnels and rooms to find the bookkeeper. The dwarves that I passed by were all muttering about booze in mournful tones, something I'm very unused to. What's up with them? I found him in the end, in the room that passes for a dining hall here, and asked him about the stocks. "The stocks? Who cares about the stocks!", he exclaimed. We've much more pressing issues, the baron's going mad without proper quarters, and so are the mayor and manager!" [t]http://i.imgur.com/jsJgZ.png[/t] "Oh shut up man," I growled, "I want to see the stocks, something's not right here; I feel it in the air and I want to know what it is." He cursed under his breath, and slid a dirty scrap of parchment at me. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ecQhl.png[/t] Bloody hell, we're near out of booze. Seems that Treatywhispers needs me, lest we all end up sober. --- I'll try and play spring tonight, get the report up tomorrow. I'm horrible at this writing :v: Also, I'm about 80% sure that the caverns are open into the fort, I'll have a look at it after maths homework. I'll try to find the magma sea, too.
save us terminutter, save us!
Wait. 3 miners 5 stoneworkers 25 craftsdwarves 16 nobles/admins And 75 children. Something is seriously wrong there, dwarves are by nature meant to work stone, so why in the world would there ever be more woodworkers (11) than stoneworkers? Not accounting for stonecrafters, mugs are easily made.
There are too many children. Until they grow up we are fucked.
There are too many children. Until they grow up we are fucked.
Been playing spring for the past 3 hours. I've recorded over 8 births, I know for a fact that I've not counted at least 6 more. I've been taking notes in a notepad doc recording important stuff. I did quite a bit, I think, though I've still not fixed the booze. Jesus christ, we have 89 kids, and the elves are here. Spring'll be over soon, I've got some images, and will put the report up some time later today, could use a catnap. Also, one of the kids is a legendary miner for some reason.
Spring Granite: Right, first thing I did in my new official managment position was check the duty rosters. Some of the dwarves in this place are pretty skilled, it's actually pretty surprising, was expecting the king to have sent me to a total hell. Well, I struck off a few of the poorer metalcrafters, to allow the veterans to shine. Shouldn't affect much, there's not much metalcrafting being done at the moment, as we are relying on coal. I'll take steps to remedy that as soon as possible. I allocated a load of bedrooms, as a load of them were not officially marked as bedrooms, which was causing the residents of this fine fort from sleeping in them. I don't know why the beurocracy is so important, but I'll humour them and do it anyway! A crundle attacked a miner in the caverns, which are indeed open to the fort (I will try to remedy this a bit later) [sp]I forgot an image of this area, I'll get one when I do summer tomorrow[/sp] though the miner got away winth minor bruising, and the crundle got shot by a marksdwarf in the single squad we have. I will try to increase our military capacity soon, we need a larger standing army; even if I have been told that there have been no goblins spotted recently. I then decided to make my first move a decisive one. I declared war on Ngopex, the tortoise. Treatywhispered will not parlay with foul beasts, no matter our name! Our warriors approached it, marksdwarves feathering it with bolts. Rigoth Scrapepillar was there hacking away with his silver short sword (we'd better see about forging him something better) whilst Cog Swordbodies was smashing bones left and right with her named copper mace. Why she calls herself Swordbodies whilst using a mace, I'll never know. She'd already killed one beast in the past, and seemed determined to add a second one to her name. The beast was being beaten back, missing with all of it's attacks when the marksdwarf Meng Roughyoung slipped on a patch of blood. Bad move on his part, the creature, enraged by it's ineffectiveness and pain grabbed him by the leg, shook him and ripped his right foot off. He stumbled away, and the beast was nearly totally crippled, with dwarves hacking at it with mace, sword and spear. [t]http://i.imgur.com/btH2Z.png[/t] The other marksdwarf, having run out of bolts; enraged at his comrades mutilation, charged the beast, and somehow managed to kill it by biting it. I'll never figure out how he did it, for as long as I live, but the other dwarves spoke; and they must have spoke truely, as it's in the records. [t]http://i.imgur.com/qCvhC.png[/t] I'll never get in a fight with him, he's probably not right in the head. Oh yeah, and we've got another useless kid in the fort. After the foul beasts demise, I ordered a new squad to be made, as we only have a single, mixed unit. I created a new marksdwarf squad to back up our current squad with arrows, and drafted 8 dwarves to it, one of them very nearly an elite marksdwarf. The dwarves all say that there's another so called "forgotten beast", but I've not seen him, so I'll ignore him for now. I couldn't find a barracks for the marksdwarves, so I set up an unused bedroom as their quarters. It's tiny, but I can't think of anything else for now. I'd have called a party to celebrate the death of that tortoise, but we don't have enough booze. I've ordered a third still to be set up, and hope that that will remedy the issue. Another kid was born to Athel on the 20th of Granite. Congratulations, if you're into that kind of thing. Can't say I am, I just want a good drink. Nonetheless, he's go I've also ordered a small fortification to be built around the main staircase in the caverns. The blue microcline lever in the first level dining hall should link you to its bridge, I'll put up a drawing later. I also began progress on an exploratory shaft in this month. Hopefully it will prove fruitful. Slate: Jesus laddies, we've had 7 babies popped out in the last week of Granite. Don't know what you're doing, but we're at a loss for booze already, got barely 80 barrels. You'd better slow down, we've got too many useless mouths as is. Designated the baron a few rooms, decided to dump his tomb in front of his dining hall. Hope the fuckin' blue blood gets the hint, I don't want that type of pompous self-grandoised bigot in this fortress. Nonetheless, he's now got rooms that are "adequate for his needs". Bastard's got more floorspace in his tomb than we have in our bedrooms. Still, if it shuts him up, I'm good. Now, the bookkeeper and manager deserve their rooms, they actually work. But this guy does nothing and expects us to give everything to him. I go to all of this effort, and for what? [t]http://i.imgur.com/ffhIs.png[/t] Fuck him. I want that bastard dead. The mayor, bookkeeper and manager have been fine, but that baron, oh boy. The exploratory shaft's going on fine, we must be getting close, the stone is warm and that seems a good sign to me, though I'm not an expert on all of this mining stuff, I am an administrator and overseer, benevolantly watching the other dwarves carry out my will whilst I sit back with a nice mug of ale... 20th Slate: Ugh, the baron just came up to me and started ranting again. He's been totally miserable lately. I want that motherfucker dead, he's got it all going PERFECTLY, sure he misses a tiny bit of sleep and someone somewhere got lucky with the engraver's skill, but who cares, you've got it better, than the rest of us! [t]http://i.imgur.com/BA37E.png[/t] He's been throwing tantrums non-stop, and I've given him all he wants. Hell, I even think his family members are all alive. The mayor is putting up with dwarves shouting their worries at him, but all you do is sit down and rant at someone having a slightly passable room. Hell, your fucking tomb is larger than anyone elses bedroom. I might just have to arrange an accident if he keeps up like this. Might be able to blame it on a kid or something, we've got way too many of them. The exploratory mineshaft seems to be getting hotter, miners are feeling stone that they don't want to breach. This could be good. And another FOUR kids born. This place is starting to feel cramped... 22nd Slate: We've done it! We've found the great magma sea! [t]http://i.imgur.com/nlxoP.png[/t] I didn't believe it at first, but my miners are reporting that they saw a spire of adamantine in the distance. This could be lucrative, but I feer the horrors that are too deep. [t]http://i.imgur.com/0cd1t.png[/t] I shall take steps to move our forging industry downstairs. I've ordered the founding of 6 new iron anvils to make magma forges, and the excavation of a magma foundry. I've also given orders for 30 brand new wooden wheelbarrows, so that we may lug ores down, and riches up. Let today, the 22nd of Slate 256 be known as the day that we found the heartblood of the world! 29th Felsite: A gemcutter, Ezum; went into a fey mood today. He went off muttering about gems. Strange guy. 30th Felsite: Well, spring's almost over. We've had yet more kids, but the elven caravan has just started plodding on. Oddly late for them, as spring is nearly over. I might order them killed, our fort has too many woodcrafters for my liking, and we need to set a firm example of what we will do to treehuggers. I'll ask the fort residents [sp]you guys[/sp] what they think about that. Work on the foundry is progressing, soon we shall start to cast many fine riches, from statues to chains to proper armour and weapons for our soldiers. A steel sword would serve our swordsdwarves much better than a soft silver sword. [t]http://i.imgur.com/OxxWW.png[/t] Ezum claimed a workshop and started building something. Don't know what, probably a useless gem that we'll store away and engrave random murals of later. I suppose we'll find out in time. --- I really need to take more images. Also, have we got a hospital? I've not gone hunting for one, and I'm not actually sure. :v: The booze situation's at 100 drinks, but I really want to get it higher. I think that the goblins might not have access to here, which is a bit sad.
There is a hospital, or there was when I played. It was next to the bedrooms when i was playing. There should be a whole bunch of cloth and stuff there because I'm pretty sure the dwarves were stealing it off a dwarven caravan. Also killing the elves is fine by me. If you want that baron dead use my pit trap! Thats what it was built for
There is a hospital, or there was when I played. It was next to the bedrooms when i was playing.
It's the "dormitory" area off to the side.
Someone should build the trade depot deep underground when the elves come. This way, we lock 'em down and let them to the beast's fate! :v: If someone wouldn't do It, I'm doing It on my turn. :v: :v: :v:
How is the underground fortress going? You guys better not forget about my awesome master plan.
Still just a load of bedrooms, but I plan to develop it, is closer to magma.
Excellent. Remember you can declare war on anyone and just seal yourself off down there. Worst threats would be forgotten beasts or hell.
Magma, eh? I think that can solve the overpopulation problem.
And it would also solve our "No crippling spiral tantrums" problem.
I've got roughly 160 bedrooms laid out in the deepfort but we look to be at nearly 360 dorfs :v: Should probably be able to play summer tonight and report tomorrow, it's slowing down a bit to 25 fps due to the sheer amount of kids. I'd love to magma them, but a tantrum spiral would be devastating. I am going to change the kid limit to 50 and the dwarf limit to 150, so that if any of them die, we won't get any more.

I say you magma them when they're all walled up and nobody's watching.
We've lost about 5 dwarves to a new FB that arrived right next to the cavern fort, but I've killed him now. We lost our best macedwarf, a good axedwarf and a swordsdwarf who never did bother taking the steel sword I made him, if our marksdwarves had listened we'd have had no issue, but alls good now. I'm at the 20th Malachite, so 40 days of summer left, which I'll play after school and have the report up by tonight. Our miners have no inclination to mine the huge amounts I've ordered them to mine, but all seems well if I can prevent a tantrum spiral from the deaths. (should be fine, most dwarves are happy / ecstatic, a few contents + fines) Oh yeah, and the baron went stark raving mad because there is no pleasing him, not my fault! I gave him fucking amazing rooms and all that :v: Wonder if I'll get an autumn and winter FB...
And it would also solve our "No crippling spiral tantrums" problem.
It's not a tantrum spiral if you spam roasts and masterwork engravings. Also, we could just melt anyone that tantrums, simple.
Summer's done (very little happened past a FB, me waiting on miners, garbage hauling and room designation) but imgur's not uploading. Anyone got any alternate easy to use img upload sites that don't require an account?

puu.sh is used by the majority of FP, but you need an account for that and you have to download something. It's pretty good, though.
puu.sh is used by the majority of FP, but you need an account for that and you have to download something. It's pretty good, though.
I actually downloaded it 3 days ago, but I forgot that I had it installed. :v: Summer 4th Hematite: I was right, that good fer nothing gemcrafter made something good for, well; nothing. A "perfect" heliodor! It sparkles pretty nicely, but it doesn't even represent anything. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/ONpmLp.png[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/lxKiCK.png[/t] I'll go back to my planning of the deep-fort. We need to move down to the depths. The elves still haven't reached our walls, I'll kill them when they arrive.Too many elf sympathisers here. Oh, and another bloody boy was born. And 5 minutes later, Zefon decided a girl would balance that out nicely. Now I'm no prude, but we're getting brats left right and centre. 6th Hematite: The elves are dead now, so that's all good. Free wood for the burning, everyone! The murder was nothing special, so there's no pictures of it for now, though I'll try to get some of the fortress at year's end. Our drink problem seems to be solved, we've got 341 drinks at the last count, and may that number keep on rising! Just discovered a new magma pool that ruined the plans for a new, deep farm. Going to have to improvise, but that project is on hold for now. 7th Hematite: Another girl was born. 11th Hematite: Another boy 12th Hematite: Kobold v Crundle, taking bets! Designed a new dining hall with a raised dais for the baron to have as his dining hall when we move to the underbase. Also gave orders for two layers of bedrooms. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/yPs6Df.png[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/ReuGG2.png[/t] 16th Hematite: Kobold won. 22nd Hematite: Finally, that fuckin' baron's gone stark raving mad! He was a good miner, but a useless baron. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/ojb8wI.png[/t] 2nd Malachite: Nothing much happened, miners are slowly getting to work. Ordered a load of electrum furniture for if we get another baron. That guy was always pissed off, nothing that could have been done about it. Ordered our scarce steel supplies to be used on helms and a short sword for the swordsdwarf in the militia. We've got roughly 80 iron at the moment, we just need some flux to get more steel. 4th Malachite: I thought I gave a stern talking to the ladies about kids - we simply can't manage more. Yet today, Aban the craftsdwarf got yet another brat. (read: I set the fucking poplimit to 30 and we're at 3x it) 12th Malachite: The Forgotten beast "Hoad" has arrived. Not one for ceremony, he only has a single name. He appeared in a location where he is a direct threat to the fortress, let us hope that our brave militia will be able to kill him. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/z82gVm.png[/t] Unfortunately, there is no burrow set for the whole fortress, as much of a mess as it is, so we will have to make do with a quick order sending everyone to the top for the fortress. Nothing else to do but pray that the militia can arrive in time and slay the beast. Rigoth Scrapepillar is the first to arrive, a skilled swordsdwarf, still holding his silver shortsword. He's only armoured in leather, whilst Cog Swordbodies, who was cleansing the caverns with her mace, Kinoram, is stopped by a crundle on her way to the foul creature. 16th Malachite: The dwarf being persued by Hoad has run it around the caverns fort 2 times, whilst the military seem to insist that the cavern crundles count as more of a threat than the gigantic beast a few metres away from them. I am in a fortress of idiots. I'll hold the fact that a useless tanner just got stung by Hoad on their heads. Cog finally noticed that the beast had killed the tanner, and ran up to confront it. The beast then destroyed Cog, our finist melee dwarf, and killed our axedwarf. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/Sq3Kpz.png[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/SGyogP.png[/t] We will have to hope that our marksdwarves can deal with it, Hoad is too dangerous for melee combat. The swordsdwarf, Rigoth was next to die. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/hfTbQA.png[/t] Sakul, an axedwarf; along with a speardwarf and two marksmen, all enraged at the deaths of 3 of his friends started smashing Hoad to pieces, with marksdwarf support. We might just repel him. [sp]I lost the image of the volley of bolts due to poor file management[/sp] 20th Malachite: Let it be known that Hoad was beaten today, by the dwarf Ezum, though the cost was great. We lost 3 fine dwarves, and many more were injured. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/cOvZR9.png[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/EgszXD.png[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/OQqDLD.png[/t] I've also taken the liberty of ordering a load of coats, trousers and socks made. We are running desparately low, and people are starting to get annoyed. 19th Galena: Kid just withdrew from society. Not sure what he's going to do. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/tyNn9E.png[/t] 20th Galena: He just claimed a craftsdwarfs workshop. Time will tell if it's going to be any good. 24th Galena: Another kid, I thought I put a limit on this! [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/UcOvNK.png[/t] Autumn has arrived. --- Very little past the fight happened this month, but booze supplies are at 360 or so from 60, underground fort is slowly chugging along and I managed to lose a lot of images. I'll try to get whole fort screenshots at year's end, and will try to remember to actually use puush. :v: [editline]14th September 2012[/editline] unfucked the pictures Oh yeah, and you guys might like splintermind's dwarf therapist modifications. It adds a few tabs for affinities based on attributes. (e.g. this dwarf might be a crappy miner but a good engraver)
Oh my god, they're finally digging out one level of the bedrooms. I might actually get something meaningful done in Autumn :v: Oh yeah, and do dirt roads replace cave moss? I want to get rid of the moss so I can smooth + engrave stone below eventually. ahh fuck, was sandy clay below it. Oh yeah, we're losing kids to troglodytes, sure I could activate the whole fort burrow I made, but it is reducing kid numbers... fuck just realised a cave croc got in the fort and killed a few people. oh god we're all going to be maimed horribly or he was maimed horribly by a guy with a mace. dorf logic. [editline]15th September 2012[/editline] Autumn - The season where fuck-all happens! 6th Limestone: A troglodyte killed a dwarf and a baby, and I set up a burrow that keeps people inside our overworld fort, or anywhere I deem safe underground (barring the 1st cavern level, which has caused a death or two) Smithing progress is slow, still not seen flux yet. The kid created a forgotten beast bone door, encrusted with crundle bones and gems. Fitting, it is made of our enemies. [t]http://puu.sh/15fED[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/15fEO[/t] Also set up an animal stockpile, we had a lot of cages stacked right by the traps. I'd designate a firing range, but the miners have too much on their plates. 10th Limestone: Gave an order for 5 copper breastplates, 5 copper greaves, a load of copper shields, 10 silver maces and 10 silver warhammers. We have got iron, but I'd sooner create some softer stuff first to train the weapon and armoursmiths a bit, and in the hope of finding flux, unlikely as it is. 23rd Limestone: Fuck, a cave croc is in the fort. Sent the militia to deal with the creature, and given orders for large walls to be built to block off the cavern pool in case of future creature incursions on the fort. 24th Limestone: A macedwarf came up, punched the croc twice in the head, smashed it 3 times with the mace, and bam, dead. It killed 4 dwarves, but we should be fine. 3rd Sandstone: You are fucking shitting me. ANOTHER KID WAS BORN. [t]http://puu.sh/15g9F[/t] 26th Sandstone: A new forgotten beast arrives. I've ordered the militia down, we've killed two this year, let's make that three. [t]http://puu.sh/15gEH[/t] Amazingly, our marksdwarves all start arriving as a group, including 2 of the 3 elite ones. Of the melee squad, a single hammerdwarf listened, but the rest are on their way. On the bright side, they did actually remember to arm and armour themselves. 1 Timber: The beast burst through the door blocking off the open caverns, and was immediately feathered with two crundle bone bolts, smashing most of the tissue off it's right arm. A bolt made of that cave crocodile was the third to hit it, smashing away most of the ash making up his upper body. A fourth bolt flew straight into what would be his head, removing it. The final bolt pounded it, removing the rest of the torso, and the creature evaporated. [t]http://puu.sh/15gMK[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/15gJM[/t] The dwarf to fire that bolt was Asob, a true hero. [t]http://puu.sh/15gOk[/t] That was a particularly easy kill, now to hope we get another fell beast for winter, to complete the year. 4th Timber: Another baby girl, this is getting out of hand. 14th Timber: Yet another girl. 16th Timber: The creak of axles, the crunching of hooves, we've got the dwarven caravan on the way! 20th Timber: The thresher, Meng was taken by a fey mood. Calling that it'll be an exquisite barrel or something. 21st Timber: He claimed a craftsdwarfs workshop, and the caravans arrived. I'll buy out all we want, I'm going to use our gems, finished goods and prepared meals. [t]http://puu.sh/15fv8[/t] 22nd Timber: After hard bargaining, got 12 steel anvils for melting down, a load of booze, more food to cook to replace what we sold, a load of weapons and armour, wood and some gypsum plaster. Gave an offering of a load of food and cut gems to the kingdom, too. 25th Timber: The mayor issued a second mandate today, after we traded. He issued an export ban on earrings, after a mandate on making earings earlier. That guy really loves his earings. Winter has arrived.
