Sooo, It's now okay to post your Minecraft server's in the Minecraft section? This is the second thread that hasn't been moved.

I think there should be a Minecraft subsection that has "servers" Games in progress is about 80% minecraft.

This is a joint project that about 25 dedicated players have been working on together since April. Altogether, I pay $400/monthly for servers and about $350 of that is covered by donations. There's no need to stand around and beat this thread to death. I'd like to play with some of you guys too but apparently all you care about is telling me how much I suck because I like donations to keep my server running. This isn't a 10 slot VPS. This is a fully working dedicated server with around 40 plugins and expensive hardware. Every bit of the 4 main cities has been carefully curated and created by hand. There's also 6 large dungeons that have been error tested for the past few weeks thanks to loyal volunteers. Item prices were worked out for every item and there's currently over 180 NPC's, most of which have multiple dialogues. I even made a special quest plugin as well as an entire PHP server management backend. I have a feeling all those saying this is a "fail" server haven't even logged in. To each his own. You just get access to a few "fun" plugins (seriously who really needs to be able to mount moderators and ride them or have a fancy colored name). Aside from Facepunch users, everyone we've had has been ok with the donation system. In fact, our original userbase came up with the pricing tiers themselves. It's no different then any other donation system except for the fact that I set it up using recurring billing. This was also done at the urging of members who would rather just pay every month to help with the server upkeep. And how is $5 exploitation? That's not even an hour at a minimum wage job. Many of our users probably spend 100+ hours a month playing. Bottom line: [b]You don't miss out on anything by not paying $$$[/b] Seriously, I never thought people would get this outraged by the donation system. You don't even have to worry about it in order to enjoy the server.

well it's a bit exploitative considering you don't really have any long term goals for the server and you have a paypal sheet showing you earned a lot of money from "donations to keep the server up" do you plan to invest this money in the server itself or are you going to keep it for yourself under the guise of donations to a server? if you answered yes to the second one, then it's quite exploitative

If there's overflow, we hold cash contests or use it to advertise on MC server lists. Here's the part that's going to get me flamed though...I don't even play Minecraft. My brother runs this server and I occasionally logon. I also wrote a few plugins, helped with server setup, and made a backend administrative tool. I thought I'd just make this thread to help him get some people. However, there are MANY minecraft servers that make a profit. Buxville generates $7500 a month in revenue. I've thought about building a server like that but I'm honestly not dedicated enough to it and I find making meme websites more profitable anyways.

Anyhow, If you're referring to recurring billing as a problem...users are made fully aware of that and it was at their request that it was added. There is also a generic donate button with no recurring billing and no minimum donation.
