Bleh, I'm not much into the idea of currencies. I think trading systems work fine, currency systems have the terribly annoying tendency to cause more problems than what it solves.
The only mods I personally want are mods that prevent fire from spreading, and makes it so creeper explosions don't destroy the environment. Mainly because I want to not have to worry about what material I build my houses with. I would like to not worry about having furnaces near wood/wool, and not having to worry about creepers waiting outside my door every time I walk outside.

ChestShop is really great. Being able to sell things while offline makes trading finally work. Prepare for huge marketplaces that are actually used.

I used to have this on the old server I went to.
It was fine in the beginning, then some people got rich, prices were adjusted to the people with the most money making everything expensive, suddenly everyone wants to sell but nobody wants to buy, and the only people selling things were the people selling hard to obtain items to rich people.
It also creates the TF2 dilemma, people getting obsessed with item worth. Certain items which most people do not want, but some people want a lot. People notice said items are worth a lot, so the price sky rocket. People buy them despite not really wanting them, but because they know they are worth a lot to other people, and said people can't afford it anymore since they are worth too much.

They have something you want, you have something they want, you trade.
You do not gain something you must use for trading in order for it to be worth something, instead you gain something that is directly useful to you.

It's not just a matter of "don't use it if you don't want to".
People will always be forced to adapt to the most commonly used system, no matter if they personally think it's retarded.
If it was something entirely optional, I would not mind it. However it is something that is very likely to effect me, which is why I'm against it. I know it's probably no use trying to convince you to change it for everyone though, so I guess I'll just have to roll with it and hope it doesn't end up in the same chaotic mess as my old server.

I doubt it'll end up the same as TF2. At most it'll make trading easier; after all, unlike in TF2, all items for sale are useful, so using optional cash for an easy to get item is better than wasting real money on fucking hats that fans dickwave with.

I've done it once or twice. Mostly we haven't needed to, because we've done direct trades.
I do however have experience not just from TF2. When I said "my old server", I was referring to the old Minecraft server I used to frequent. The economy and the chest mod there created issues like elitism between rich users, people using duplication exploits to cheat the market, mods making money by selling unobtainable blocks, griefers destroying peoples houses to take blocks valuable to sell, being unable to buy things from the market when you're not a regular because the prices are overly expensive because mostly the rich users buy from it.

Mods can't just spawn items so that isn't an issue and griefers will get banned. I can't really speak for any of the other issues, but I'm pretty sure those won't be a problem.
Like I said, I guess I'll just have to roll with it and hope it doesn't end up as bad as my old server.

Wow, tried reconnecting in a 1x2 shelter which I used to store my possessions at, spawned inside a block, suffocated to death, game gave me a black screen, tried reconnecting again, same thing happens and now I can't play, I just get stuck at a black screen, what the hell?
I'm just one person, and I'm not on nearly as much as most of the people in this thread, but I feel like this server is starting to have way too many mods.
Back when I first started going here it seemed like there were just enough mods to make moderation easy and simplify a few things

Not really, we've only got a few moderation mods, treehugger, basic SMP commands, and we're experimenting with economy stuff.

Feels too much like an advert, in my opinion. That makes it seem annoying and desperate.
Try making one without text. Look at the videos Yogscast did during Minecon to show off some of the community's servers. Ask Profan if you can have moderator/flight powers for a couple of days while you are shooting material.
Something I personally think is cool is Timelapse. Maybe shoot a couple of hours of people building the new town, and then timelapse it into the promo video.

You're almost never here, and simplifying things isn't always the way to go, adding plugins is a good idea when it's doing something that people have long wanted as well as making the server more interesting to the player, and you're almost never on so I'm not sure you even have a voice anymore.

This doesn't apply to us, people don't grief here because they know they will get caught, as well as to be nice to the other players.
Moderators can't use /give simply because SOME moderators abused it, and frankly I don't trust people with such anonymity to do whatever, hell I'm considering taking part of FlubberNugget's powers away because he abuses them so much.
