People will have a tendency to stay close to the spawn so when they eventually do die, they won't have to walk 2000 blocks to get back to their house. I understand what you mean about teleporting home but I don't think it's going to be worth the congestion. What about a cooloff time of a few hours on /home?
Nono mortson, if beds don't work I will make so people will be able to set their own spawnpoint.
One thing though, with the amount of bugs being found, i can't see 1.8 coming out any time soon.
What if the leaked version is one month old?
Because removing home doesn't take away from adventure, it adds to it, home makes it too easy to just survive by teleporting.
not really, i'm just going to have one house and never move away from spawn because i dont want to lose it
The only way to teleport should be through the nether.
not really, i'm just going to have one house and never move away from spawn because i dont want to lose it
Yeah but that is different, you're just a boring person :v:
the first city that gets built will be buried and covered by lava springs 2 [editline]10th September 2011[/editline] and with a huge ensuing argument between plasma and everyone else [editline]10th September 2011[/editline]
Yeah but that is different, you're just a boring person :v:
you should get the mod-o-matic to make a mod which makes ender pearls useful
Profan please consider adding this and some sort of economy. It would actually give in-game shops a purpose
I could make something resembling a "public transportation" guild that would build railways/roads and keep aesthetics in mind. But people would probably go "hurr durr nether is faster"
I love public transportation. Problem is after a day or two I run out of resources and everything comes to a stop. I'm very fond of automatic train systems. Preferably not underground but above ground. Something like this WIP project (made very long ago) Every pillar had a door with a ladder going upstairs to a small dark pathway going beneath the train tracks, for repairing purposes. (and saves me some stone) Trees and water are on top to make it as environment friendly as possible.
removed avatars? Okay, whoever did this is a complete and utter twat. What was the problem with letting normal players have avatars?! I vote against an island world. That would be too difficult and restricting. Plus stuff will end up looking worse than spawn because people would build floating houses on the water. That always looks bad.
Why is everyone getting this wrong. It's NOT an island world, hell i don't even think there is a minecraft seed that is only one huge ocean with islands on it. I've explored beyond the sea and there is land just like any other minecraft world, it's just that the spawn is in the middle of a huge ocean which makes it interesting. Also profan i think /home should stay, BUT with some changes, if this is possible maybe it takes a bit to actually teleport home and that the player taking damage disrupts it. Which means you have to use /home when you are safe. Cause i like your idea of taking away means of "magicly" teleporting but there must be a way to get back to your base instead of walking several thousand blocks. And sure there are railways, but what if someone wants to make a secret base?

But boy, when you finish you're damn proud of what you did. If more people collaborate(such as the Travellers guild if it comes back) it could be done, it wouldn't be fast, but it could deffinetly work. If not, just have some forced standardization of bridges and railways. Blow up anything not conforming, but once again, a tedious proccess for the admins who would have to uphold the standard. We'll just end up with nether transportation systems, meh. But hey, maybe we can get something going.
Nether transportation has never been popular, why do you think it will be at the next map?
The fact that it was the only working method of transportation that was easily accesable(Fromantown station has 2 lines, one of which didnt work last time i was there and the other lead to a town around a minutes walk away). That and well, it's the only thing i heard about being used for transport in the thread lately. Just my observations really.
Aaaa, tried out 1.8. Lotsa bugs, but I am pretty excited for it! Can't wait.
islands/archipelago worlds are the best worlds

Oh and monsters blow them up less. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1087319-Huge-old-server-map-plenty-of-towns-settlements-abandoned-mines-and-wonders
I have a quest or challenge for you! Try to make a carto pic out of any program of your desire out of the world with stormhaven or new vennice!
Profan, this may come in handy when you make the next worlds subway http://youtu.be/YKlQfHfO768 [editline]11th September 2011[/editline] giant cobble tunnels in the nether ruin the look. And since everything is closer people from all over the map will see ugly crap when they go through their own portals.

well No /home and /spawn will force you make safe path to place before you make city.which is great :v:
So profan will there be an end of the map event tonight?
Nono mortson, if beds don't work I will make so people will be able to set their own spawnpoint.
Explains. Everything. Thank you.
So profan will there be an end of the map event tonight?
you're implying that 1.8 will legitimately be released tonight after notch intentionally leaked it so that he could have an excuse to delay and ignore bug complaints
you're implying that 1.8 will legitimately be released tonight after notch intentionally leaked it so that he could have an excuse to delay and ignore bug complaints
Actually the release is tomorrow.
That's what I meant to say [editline]11th September 2011[/editline] and it's not
Prepare for wall of text: First of I must state that the traveller’s guild does not prevent individuals from building their own roads and such between cities, just that if you wish to do so please unless the design is a good one which uses minimal amount of sky roads just use the standard template, also don’t go messing around with the rail system, Profan gets very angry when people do that and you don’t want to see him when he is mad! Righto, this time I’m hoping to make the Traveller’s guild do something it has never done before: work efficiently and quickly. My plan is simple; we are going to need a level of cooperation between the people in the traveller’s guild and people building cities, and as such I must ask you all that when you are building a city to PM me a message on Facepunch with contains your cords, rough size and population of the village/town est. By doing this you will get me a chance to place your settlement on the wiki page for the Traveller’s guild, it also give me an idea of the relative need for transportation links e.g a town with a population of twenty will be more in need of roads then a village of four and thus will be build first even if it’s much further away. Secondly if we are still going to be using the same chest protection mod I shall need to know the ingame names of everybody who wishes to join the guild, this can be done by editing the wiki page for the guild and adding your name to the list of people in the guild, after which you will quickly reserve all the benefits of being in the guild (I must be frank, there is not allow of benefits to it all). One of the major benefits is that I fairly sure ( I cannot remember for sure) I will be able to protect chests containing supplies such as road building materials, some iron and food from people outside the guild whilst allowing people in the guild to access them. However as a mod if people in the guild abuse this e.g. if there is a storeroom in one of the Guilds lodges that is emptied and all the supplies are just thrown into some lava I will find out and ban you. My ingame plan is again simple, if you wish to join the guild for the first few names very little work will be done on the infrastructure will be done under the name of the traveller’s guild so everybody is free to do whatever they like, be it build up resources or help build towns. However if you wish to help I will have set up a strip-mine with the aim to collect as much cobble, coal and iron as possible. After a few days I will be starting to look for volunteers who are willing to help with the construction of roads between the cities which have had their details posted to me through Facepunch using the materials that I and hopefully a few other people have built up. This will continue indefinitely as new towns are always popping up, but when Profan is ready work on the rail system will begin and all that lovely iron that has been saved up will go into the building of tracks, the work members of the travellers guild and friendly people outside the guild will do here is dig massive 3x3 holes leading from city to city under the direction of the great slave master Profan and making it look all pretty. This will all continue in till no town goes unconnected and the use of unneeded sky bridges it removed. Lastly, being part of this guild is not a ingame job, it’s not tieing you to any agreement and you are not required to help out if you wish, however if you do wish to become a slave for a hour or so digging out a 3x3 tunnel for 4KM or building a road for three hours or so to link up two cities you are more than welcome to.

Also you don't have to search for iron as much now as before since abandoned mines are full of tracks, and there are plenty of mines!
Sounds awesome and i will happily join the guild :v:

I've been gone from the server, but I'll be back when 1.8 comes out.
