Valkyrie looked over all the information she had gathered from the various 'books', and nodded in satisfaction. "This stuff will be plenty useful." - - - - - - - - - Taylor stepped off the Cataract to hear the others fussing with, or rather at, Maddox and Jason about the AMR. It was true. Despite what Maddox said, this was no place to be shooting an anti-material rifle. Especially one loaded with explosive ammunition. She walked over and stood nearby, folding her arms and just listening in.
Deep within the kitchen of the Cataract, Alex felt pride in his sister. Yet he didn't know why.
Frosty couldn't believe what his ears have just heard. He turned to Amy with a face full of fright. Now, Frosty liked Maddox a little, so he didn't like what she had to say. Then again, he did indeed do something stupid by firing live ammunition inside a hangar where fuel tanks may be around... --------------------- Moloch slowly took his aim away from the two, but he shook his head in amusement at the verbal mutilation Amy had just served Maddox.
Hariim looks up from some reverie and nods, even smiles. Odd for him. He's usually quite stoic. "Good. Now that you've got the basic skills, you can help yourself most of the rest of the way. If you'd like, I can show you to another place or we can disconnect and get back to realspace. What would you like?"
"Eh. We should head back to the real world. I've got shit to do, and you do too, I think. You can show me another time." she said, shrugging a bit.
Yanim, rather than trying to summon Taylor over the comm, simply shuffled over to where the captain and several of the crew were standing in the hangar. "Spaska, captain," she greeted her. "The 'appropriate time' I spoke about earlier has come about. There's a meeting room near the front of this vessel; I'd like you to gather your first officer and anyone else you wish to bring along. We're going to discuss how this company is going to use your crew in the future."
"Spaska, captain," she greeted her. "The 'appropriate time' I spoke about earlier has come about. She then turned, and headed back up into the Cataract. She traveled through the ship to the crew quarters, and checked each room till she found Hariim...and Valkyrie? Looks like they're meditating. When the hell did Valk start meditation? "Hariim?" she said loudly, hoping he'd hear her.
Maddox just shook his head. "You people need to calm down." He gestured towards the improvised firing range. "Like I said there's nothing to hit but the targets themselves unless Jason here intentionally aims for something outside the range." "Speaking of firing ranges, the one onboard the Cataract is too small. It doesn't have roughly two hundred meters of open area so unless you want to see AMR shots coming out from the hull." When Yanim appeared quickly without saying anything to Maddox he grinned. "See? You folks need to calm down. The boss knows that if we're going to survive the next rollercoaster we need the weapons and knowledge on how to do so."
Jason turns to the 2 women and replies to them. "Listen here, If we need to be prepared for every scenario that might happen, We need to do it now. however. We are deeply sorry to disturb your peace." Jason then looked to Maddox and spoke. "Hey Maddox, is it possible to fit a silencer on this thing? I don't want anymore guys coming down here and giving us a rant"
"I'd have to handcraft one."
"Great, Let's get to work. Excuse us girls." Jason stood up from the chair and then searches the crates for any parts to make a silencer
((Yes, search the tiny ammobox for raw materials.)) Maddox shakes his head. "Remove the magazine and put on the safety on the rifle before you start messing around." He sighs. "I'll make a silencer for it later."
Jason searches the crates and ends up leaving empty-handed. he then heard Maddox and came back and removed the AMR's magazine and then switch the safety. "Yeah, I can't find anything that can make the silencer. Let's pack up and end for today. I'll meet you later Maddox.
Maddox nods. "Talk to you later." The gunsmith then begins to pack up the improv firing range while chuckling. "Silencer on a AMR..." He mumbles quietly to himself.
Amy had her arms crossed as she looked at both of them. "I'm not done with you however. If the range in the Cataract is too small, then use the one on this ship. Chances are that it's big enough for you. And that fact that Yanim may be ok with it is a stroke of luck at best. Don't be such a jackass and pull such a dick move, risking yours, mine and everyone else's contracts because you wanted to fire the mother of all compensators in the hangar." She turned her attention to Jason. "And you. Explain what situations will arise that require this hangar and not the firing range. And a sillencer for an AMR?"
Maddox held up his hand. "Yeah yeah, calm down. It's enough to have one Koronov verbally murder me, I don't need a second one." Having packed up all the stuf onto a pair of hovercarts Maddox turned to Amy. "Are we done here?"
"Yes. I'm done." She didn't like having to yell at people this way. She hated it in fact. But when her lifelyhood was in danger, she didn't want to risk it. This job offered relative safety, not counting events from the last several days. Constantly being on the move meant that it was harder for people to find them. If she or Alex got sacked, that meant going back on the run on their own. She shook off those thoughts. And focused back on Jason. "Well?"
Jason sighs before speaking up to Amy. "Well. To be honest. I was just really bored on not firing a gun since after we had those Death Virgils back in the Muramasa. So Maddox pulls out the AMR and then asks me to try it out. its and offer I couldn't pass off so i just went with it. Also the Silencer on the AMR thing? Yeah.. I have no idea what I was doing." Jason shifted his pose and placed his arms in his back and stand straight, a military pose. "I am willing to take full responsibility for my actions and my poorly made decisions."
Maddox patted Jason on the shoulder as he returned to the Cataract. He continued to pack up the rest of the crates transferred from the Muramasa armory. He then spotted his own bags next to the desk and smiled. He walked up to them and moved them aside, revealing a guitar case underneath. He pulled it up onto the desk and opened it up. Inside the case was a Ibanez acoustic guitar. Maddox ran his fingers alongside the wooden surface and then the strings. He smiled again and grabbed the guitar. He sat down on the desk and started to play.
"That's for the captain and boss to decide. But if it were up to me, I'd probably had you scrubbing the new ship with a toothbrush." She motioned with her hand. "Go on Romeo, get moving."
"Thanks Amy. I'll be going now" Jason then walks off without a word said. Jason goes to his designated cabin in the Cataract and then flopped down to his bed. before grabbing a holopad and finding stuff to do on it.
Hariim pulls himself and Valkyrie out of the Culture's mesh. When Valkyrie looks at the clock, she sees that just one minute has elapsed out here in realspace while at least half an hour passed in the mesh. It dons on her that time passes at the speed of thought within the Culture. Hariim regards Taylor. "Yes, captain? We were just getting through Valkyrie's introductory lesson to cyborg life."
Valkyrie looked back at Taylor, and gave her one hell of a sly grin. "Yeah, he was showing me some stuff I think you'd find really interesting." said Valkyrie. Taylor raised an eyebrow. Oh, fucking wonderful. Something ELSE to worry about. The thought of Valk hacking into her power suit from a distance and just fucking things up popped into her head. She shook it off, then spoke. "Hariim, Yanim wants you and me to head to the meeting room near the front of the ship. Let's go."
Hariim nods and stands up. He only ever seems to dress in his work clothes, so after he slips his boots on he's ready to go. "Feel free to linger if you'd like, Valkyrie." He says politely, then follows Taylor out to the meeting room. Hariim leaves with peace of mind, knowing that the few electronic devices he keeps are well secured.
Valkyrie doesn't linger long, really. Just long enough to get used to being back in the real world. She stood, heading out of Hariim's room and back to her room. Well, time to try and do it solo. She sat down on her bed, setting her cutlass aside, and got comfortable. A few moments later, she shut her eyes and relaxed. - - - - - - - - As Hariim and Taylor walked through the hangar, they passed by the crew remaining outside. "If you guys want to join us, we're heading to the meeting room to talk with Yanim and the others about the crew's future." she said, passing Amy and the others.
Bucky nods and follows after Taylor and Hariim. She's already tired of the little congregation and needs a change of subject.
"Fine by me. Be nice to see the boss again." Amy said as she tagged along.
After playing the guitar inside the armory Maddox headed out, only to hear Taylor talk about a meeting. Quietly he decides to join, following Hariim and Taylor without as much as making a sound.
Still standing in the hangar and pondering whether Maddox's verbal murder was humane or not, Frosty couldn't help but notice him sneaking around behind Taylor as if he were some kind of spy on a mission. Figuring he must have a good reason for doing so, he too sneaked behind Maddox. Then he realized what he was doing was just stupid. The crew meeting was open for everyone who decided to go, and he decided to let Maddox know that. "Maddox, why are you sneaking around? Are you spying on the captain or something? The meeting is for everyone who wishes to go, you know."
Valkyrie made her way back to the 'library' inside of the Culture's central hub, adapting to her environment and life in the digital realm much quicker than before. First time's always the hardest it seems. For really anything. She stands there, sifting through the various tabs and taking in some of the information she finds. Mostly for her drone work. Eventually, she gets this uneasy feeling. As if she were being physically watched. She looked back to see nothing. Huh...odd. When she turned back around to what she was doing, she found that book that had been in her hand had been taken by another woman, standing next to her and now reading said book. She was a few inches taller than her, with long flowing hot pink hair and rather pale skin. Valkyrie could see very faint lines on the woman's face, as though parts of it were separated off into sections. Like that of an android or cyborg. She had two tattoos on her face as well, it seemed, over the eyes. A single line over each eye, starting below the eyebrows and ending just beneath the eyelids on the upper part of the cheeks. Her outfit was sleek, black with white and purple bits attached to it. Valk could see the logo of the Luomi-Asano Apparel company stamped on the collar of the outfit. Valkyrie raised an eyebrow, narrowing her eyes. What is this chick, a fucking clown? She reached over and snatched the book back away from her. "I was reading that." she said, giving the woman a glare. "Oh, I know. Advanced Drone networking, eh? Interesting...planning to build some body guards or something?" said the woman, turning a bit to face her. Her soft blue eyes met Valkyrie's gaze. "You're new here, right?" asked the woman, her voice rather smooth. Unnatural. "Yeah, second time here, actually...who and what are you exactly?" said Valkyrie, curiously. The woman smiled, and did sort of a curtsy. "Jester." said the woman simply. "I'm an Upyri. Well...was one. I do a little of this, a little of that. And who might you be?" Valkyrie eyed her for a moment, then replied. "Valencia Blackwell. Most call me Valkyrie, or just Valk." Jester smiled a bit more, showing a few teeth this time. "Ah! I've heard of you, actually. Love your work." - - - A short while later, Valkyrie opened her eyes into the real world, having made a new friend in the Culture.
