Frosty heard enough. He stormed out of the meeting room and headed back into the crew's quarters. Looking back, he didn't understand why he got angry at Maddox as he didn't think there was anything useful about himself he could report back to HQ. But he couldn't shake the feeling off. And now he was thinking of talking to Moloch...
Valkyrie, as security officer of the ship, I humbly advice you to cut this behavior out, or I'll be forced to put you in the brig for the safety of others, okay?"
Valkyrie cut him one hell of a hateful look. "You fucking touch me, and see just what happens." - - - - - - -
"Get. out. o. my. fuckin. way. cunt."
Taylor narrowed her eyes at him, then shoved Valkyrie into Markus' chest. "Take her with you." muttered Taylor, before walking past him towards where the others still were in the room.
"Porter, I want you to consider this. Me and Amy are now citizens of Sol because he decided to leak that information to whoever he's reporting to. And don't give me the 'I didn't know' shit. That infromation makes us, infinitely easier to track. Tracked by men like my father. That puts not only us in danger, but the crew and the entire company in the Creed's crosshairs." Alex looked at Yanim. "What do we do with him, boss?"
"You fucking touch me, and see just what happens."
Porter ignores the threat, as responding to it would go nowhere. "Don't want to come off as condescending, but you say it as 'Amy and I'. Second, if that is true, and you both don't feel safe, I can arrange for security to hold you in hiding if you feel so. If your father does come, whatever he's after you for, he'll have to go through me first."
Alex was about to snap at Porter, but managed to stop himself. The old man hasnt done anything to him, in fact the oposite. He was trying to help him without asking anything in return. He didnt deserve any anger and bile that might have gone his way. He took a big breath and sighed. "Weill talk later big guy. You're sec chief, so you'll get the full picture."
Maddox looked at Alex. "Listen, I'm just an agent. If someone gave you citizenship it wasn't me. Not once was I told to keep tabs on you or your sister." He turned towards Yanim. "Whatever you plan to do I hope you do it quickly."
Beautiful music could be faintly heard from one particular crewman's cabin. Moloch had his door open so any passersby could hear the song he played on his setar. It stopped when he noticed someone giving him a very dirty look from the entrance. "Oh, Mr. Frosty. Have you come to be my audience?" Frosty didn't say a word but shambled inside as a response. "Come. You may sit on my bed." Frosty did just that. His head was still bowed. "Is something the matter, Mr. Frosty?" Still no response. Moloch set his setar aside, took off his hood, and walked over to him. Getting low and putting his hand on Frosty's shoulder, he spoke again. "Come now. Let me see your face, my brother!" Frosty looked upset, but his expression changed to one of sadness as his eyes met Moloch's. "What is bothering you, my friend?" "... Moloch. I've come to the conclusion that this is not a crew I want to believe in anymore... All I have left now, is you." Moloch reeled back for a moment, taking a moment to absorb what Frosty just said. "Hmm?" "You and I, we are blood brothers, yes?" "Correct. You are an Artisynth, just as I. We share the same physiology, the same genes, the same blood..." "Then, I suppose you are all that I can trust in.." "...Mr. Frosty, are you alright?" "Something... showed me that this crew is worthless." "Tell me what happened, my dear brother." "Do you remember Maddox? He is a spy for the SDF. He has been collecting information from everyone and telling his people at the SSOID about it..." Moloch slowly stepped back. "Is this so?" "Yes. He just admitted it to everyone. He even had the gall to make a joke about it. Now, we are all at risk." "Mmmm. In that case, I have an idea that can save the both of us. Are you willing to listen?" "Just... tell me." "What say you the both of us find and see what special secrets we he has hidden away in his cabin?" "I wouldn't expect a plan any less insane from the likes of you... but I suppose it's best, not just for us but for the rest of the crew that we discover what he has been plotting and scheming behind our backs..." The two got up and were about to depart when Moloch had one last thing to say. "You know, Mr. Frosty, I am glad you decided to confide your trust in me. I understand you are traumatized by what you saw us do on Karbala, but believe me, our people have much more noble qualities you might not expect. We are not a band of savages, and I wish for you to understand that one day..." He gestured towards the door. "Well, on we go! Time to see what that deceitful human has been planning against us!"
Yanim watched the whole scene unfold quietly from her own end of the table before jumping to her feet, eying Maddox with a look that could kill. Memories of past betrayals playing out in her mind, she was eager to set things right immediately. "How dare you. Your crewmates have fought and nearly died at your side, and you have the nerve to keep your loyalties elsewhere... There is only one solution," she spat, to the excitement of Valkyrie and Markus. However, Yanim wasn't about to throw Maddox out the airlock. "If you're a spy, you spy for us, or no one. From here on, you will tell Sol lies about us and anything you see on this mission. You will tell them only what we tell you to tell them. If you cannot do this," she said, hand resting on her sidearm, "I will kill you myself."
Maddox froze as Yanim started to talk. He was so sure that this was going to be his last day alive. He had mentally prepared himself that he wasn't going back to his quarters after this meeting, much less survive untill the next day. When Yanim suddenly gave him a new mission blinked twice out of sheer confusion. Spy? For TBC? Maddox nodded. "Understood ma'am. Thank you."
The plan to bust into Maddox's cabin came to a screeching halt as they quickly came to the realization that his cabin was infact locked. Though the locks holding the door in place may be strong, Moloch is stronger and mustered up all the strength he could to force open the door with Frosty's assistance as well. (( Roll. ))
Valkyrie looked dumbstruck, looking between Yanim and Maddox. "Are you FUCKING SERIOUS!?" she blurted out. She's not even going to punish him!? What the fuck is this?! "He's an SDF spy and deserves to get his goddamn spine cut out!" Taylor looked back at her. "Shut the fuck up." barked Taylor, glaring at Valkyrie. "Yanim says that he's going to spy for the TBC, so that's what he's going to do. You kill him, and I'll blow the rest of your fucking brain out. Am I understood?" Taylor had had enough of Valkyrie's tantrum. Valkyrie locked eyes with Taylor, then muttered a string of curses as she spun around and stormed out of the room.
Frosty + Moloch: CH Estimate: 3/5 Actual: {4, 3} = 7 Roll Passed. With a crash, the two men destroyed the latch mechanism by knocking the sliding door out of alignment. They then pushed it aside, gaining entry.
Oh, this was going to be good. But why should Moloch have all the fun? He borrowed Frosty's datapad to send a message to two very specific people who are not keen of the SDF or having the SDF spy on them.
Mr. Koval and Mrs. Blackwell. Come and join Mr. Frosty and I in our hunt for Maddox's secrets in his cabin. - M.
SNIP
"I know this isn't an ideal solution," Yanim said to Taylor as Valkyrie left the room, "but if we were to burn the spy without using him, then Sol would have everything they've already gathered on us while we have nothing on them. And if we were to kill their agent, they may begin to treat us the same way the Collective treats us. I'd rather keep the status quo." She sighed.
Taylor looked back to Yanim. "Understood, ma'am. I can search his room if you wish, to check if he has any gadgets or anything that the SSOID supplied him." she asked, reaching over and taking Valkyrie's machine pistol from the table near Yanim. - - - - - - - - - Valkyrie was still muttering a string of insults and curses related to both Taylor as well as Maddox as she walked through the Carrier's hangar back towards the ship. She paused, though, as soon as she felt her pocket vibrate. A message from Moloch? Huh? And he wants to dig through Maddox's cabin. "Sign me the fuck up." she muttered, before she thought about something else. He must have his quarters rigged with an alarm or something. Of course he did, he's a fucking spy. She grunted under her breath. She considered following him and running him through when his back was turned, but then she'd have Taylor to deal with. Which wasn't good when she didn't have any drones to take her on with. The full metal bitch won this round. She sighed, and just proceeded back onboard the Cataract to Bucky's room after making a stop at her own to get her tattoo equipment.
"Right boss. We'll do whatever you say." Alex said with obvious frustration in his voice.
Understood, ma'am. I can search his room if you wish, to check if he has any gadgets or anything that the SSOID supplied him
"I can do it right now. Save you the trouble."
Jason was standing around the Cataract, messing around with his new Wrist Monitor before looking up seeing Valk with her tattoo equipment, Jason spoke up. "Hey Valk, you know where Bucky is?"
"Hey Valk, you know where Bucky is?"
"Her room probably." responded Valk, glancing at him as she walked past.
"Yanim's course of action is the wisest. I offered similar deals to enemy agents back in my time in the Service." Hariim speaks up finally. For most of the yelling and screaming he was shadowing Taylor, always staying where he could cover or help her. He seemed unsurprised at the unfolding events. "If you would like, Yanim, I can mind Maddox's transmissions. I have some experience with espionage and covert communications." -------------------------------------------- Bucky is indeed in her room. She's discarded her hoodie, showing the simple grey tank top she's been wearing underneath. When Valk finds her, she's lougning in her bed bouncing diagnostic commands around the Cataract's computers while working through a puzzle cube. She seems somewhat bored and perhaps a little down.
"Absolutely," Yanim responded. "Make sure nothing gets out without our knowledge."
"Hey, Starbuck. I'm back." said Valk, as she knocked on Bucky's door. She looked back at Jason, who had followed her. "Jay's out here too, wandering around like a lost puppy."
Bucky looks down at Valkyrie and lights up like a christmas tree. "Hey!" She exclaims, sitting up. "Come in! Any idea why Jason is here?"
Jason popped his head behind Valk's Shoulder and then spoke up. "Hey Bucky, Can you do me a big favor?"
"What is it?" Bucky asks tentatively, obviously unsure of what Jason might be trying to ask of her. He's barely talked to her in the past, so suddenly being asked a favor by him is unusual.
Jason moved to the side of Valk and then still fiddled with the wrist monitor before speaking up "From what I heard, You're an Android right?"
"Yeah. What about it? I mean, it's never been a secret really. The Muramasa would have been a lot more fukt if I actually needed to sleep."
Jason showed Bucky the Wrist Monitor's screen. A message was displayed in another language. "I got this message from some unknown source. Its Japanese or something"
"Okay? So? There's real-time translation software just about everywhere on the nets, dude. What do you need me for?"
"That's the problem, The whole thing is encrypted in some sort of way that you have to do it manually, Since i don't have time to read a Japanese translation book. You were the first thought that came up since you already have this in your database"
