Are you seriously implying that cold fusion is not an important and ground breaking technological development?
A sustainable fusion reaction that occurs at or near room temperatures without need to expensive and bulky heat shielding? And that's NOT a good thing?
It would allow you to more effectively miniaturize the reactors. Put them in smaller ships, planes, vehicles, and space craft.

also this is how the tech thing is gonna work, with techs taking roughly a year in stages before adoption:
1: Design stage
2: Prototyping
3: Trials and experiments
4: Adoption and commercial use
focusing solely on one tech cuts research time in half
ofc it depends on the type of technology, but generally a most people have the general idea and are on the right track with tech atm. once people know everyone else is doing and get an idea of the timeframe more, plus turns start comin out, they can refine things a bit better
