World Events:
-The number of surviving WW2 veterans drops below 10.
-The permafrost is beginning to permanently thaw on a large scale.
-5 year survival rates of cancer is approaching 100%
-A bridge over the gulf of Urabá between Panama and Colombia is completed, one of the last major additions to the transglobal infrastructure network.
-The Republic of Manchuria declares independence from the People’s Republic of China.
-Brazil annexes Guyana and Suriname.
Second Russian Revolution:
-The former Russian Federation has largely collapsed, with four major factions having arisen within its former borders.
-The Sovetskaya Sotsialisticheskaya Yedinaya Respublika (SSUR) controls Moscow and the surrounding cities of Kaluga, Tula, Ryazan, and Tver. They also have a foothold in Nizhny Novgorod. The SSUR is mainly run by many who used to be in the ruling party of the old Russian Federation, and thus is widely considered the main successor state.
-The Demokraticheskoy partii Rossii (DKPR) controls Saint Petersburg and the surrounding cities of Sosnovy Bor, Gatchina, Vyborg, and Tosno. They have also sent a force to wrest control of Veliky Novgorod from the loyalists. The DKPR is composed of a coalition of the former opposition, and regards itself as the main dissenting voice within the former Russian Federation. They also control the large area around Volgograd and to the north of Ciscaucasia.
-The Partiya Vostochnoy Soyuza (PVS) has seized control of Perm, Ufa, and Kazan and all of the cities within it. They are currently fighting for control of Tolyatti with Respublika Volgograde.
-The three major groups are generally unfriendly with each other, differing in their political and economic desires for Russia.
Chinese Civil War:
-The Peoples Republic of China is in a state of gradual collapse. Much like Russia, the main political party is still in control, albeit with a greatly reduced area of influence. The rest of the country is composed of various political and nationalist factions. Mongolia has sent peacekeeping forces to occupy much of Inner Mongolia.
-The Chinese Democratic Revolutions are a group largely interested in establishing a democracy in the style of the western ones. They are concentrated in the southeast, one of the more prosperous areas open to foreign trade and ideas.
-The Chinese Republicans profess allegiance to the principles set down 130 years hence by Sun-Yat Sen, and some are funded or supported by Taiwan (another claimant to be the legitimate government of China). The civil war has allowed them to make good inroads, and their more successful form of government is seen as model to follow.
-Nationalists are the smaller factions who have support from their population based on linguistic and ethnic lines. Most of them were ambivalent until the government collapsed, but have been forced to look to their own safety. Among them are the Tibetans, Cantonese, Uighurs, Yunnan (a multiethnic state), and Manchuria.
-The Communist Party of China. While still holding onto Beijing and key parts of the north, they also have some loyalty in the rural districts where party support has generally tended to be strong. They have however lost control of much of the country and survive only because one of the other major factions has not yet made the killer blow.

Satansick – South Africa
Capitals: Pretoria
-South Africa continues research into shear thickening body armour, and begins research into active camouflage and cybernetics. While many prototypes have been tested of shear thickening armour, they have yet to be deployed in field tests or open combat. Shear thickening armour is already in use, but additional improvements can still be made. Active camouflage has been researched for some time as well, but has seen little widespread adoption yet. Cybernetics does presently exist, but is largely for replacement of lost body parts, with little (ethical) research into augmenting the body with them. Reports of prototyping will be ready in 3 months, and field experiments in 6.
-The South African Armaments Corporation receives a boost in their budget for research on cutting-edge, emergent technologies. Simultaneously the Denel SOC Ltd also receives extra funding. Critics ask where the money is supposed to come from.
-War games are held throughout South Africa. The OpFor simulates new military technology used by other nations so as to familiarize the South African military with their abilities.
-UN Peacekeeping troops provided by South Africa are called back. A Cabinet of Ministers, a military cabinet, is formed in the African Union and the former UN Peacekeepers are instead used as African Union (AU) Peacekeepers. South Africa seems to be taking a bit of a “vanguard” role in the African Union.
-Pensions for veterans of the military are removed and replaced with free re-education into the National Guard to act as police officers. Minor protests break out due to this highly controversial policy change.
-The AU Peacekeepers begin operations in areas deemed as conflict areas.
-Denel SOC Ltd pre-purchases a plethora of Artificial Intelligence prototypes from Japan, helping fund Japanese research.
-As time progresses it becomes more and more apparent that South Africa is intent on integrating heavily with the African Union.
-Regional integration likewise becomes a goal for South Africa, diplomatic missions to neighboring countries are common.
In regards to your sending of diplomats to Brussels, the EU is controlled by Telepethi, work with him for a treaty.
-After a major mining accident (in a company with a long history of relative safety), the South African government launches a smear campaign against major companies. It pushes through a controversial bill which nationalizes most of the mines in South Africa
-To further appeal to the poor, the government also announces a welfare subsidy to those with children (excepting the wealthy). Every South African high school graduate now also is eligible for a student finance. The government pays the student's college education, but if they fail they have to pay the money back. An unpopular policy among students, it will not have results until the end of the current academic year in several months.
-The African elephant is immortalized in the African Union's flag, and by the taking of DNA/blood samples. Even if it goes extinct, it may be cloned.

Crossu88 – Soviet Socialist Unified Republic
Capital: Moscow
-As the Russian Federation falls a number of major rebellious organizations crop up. One of the leading ones aims to bring communism back to Russia. Its name being the Soviet Socialist Unified Republic.
-The newly formed Soviet scientific research institute introduces their first major project that they will work on over the coming year. Coilguns have been developed since the days of the original USSR, but now there are new promises, with applications for space travel or war. Working on the principle of magnetism, it accelerates a projectile to high speeds the Supreme Soviet introduces blueprints of a coil gun artillery piece for use in a variety of settings, not only for projectiles but for launching air/spacecraft and missiles. Prototypes will be introduced in 3 months, and adoption could begin as soon as September.
-The rag-tag military of the SSUR is sent to the western borders of their territory. The lack of discipline leads to a plethora of beatdowns and rapes of civilians. One particularly heinous crime occurs in Ryazan. A group of SSUR soldiers lined up a number of “dissenting” men and fired upon them after raping any daughters or wives they may have had and burning their houses to the ground.
-Diplomats are sent out to request foreign aid. All diplomats are rebuffed.
-The new government begins sending out videos and other media over the internet and texting peoples phones, telling them that the new government is willing to “soften” and promises democratic reforms and free expression if they go home. A few do, mostly under the shadows of the “Peoples Militia”.
-The new government (after stealing most of the foreign currency reserves) pays off as much debt they can. Then realizing they have a lot of debt still left, they simply declare that it no longer exists, severely hurting many investors in China, the EU, and America. They introduce another rouble as the new currency.
-The new government also tries to win over farmers to their side by giving them subsidies in return for food. As a major food producer, Russia gets much of her hard currency from selling food, and keeping the loyalty of the farmers is essential. Many of course often sell it domestically (or on the black market), making the policy limited in effectiveness.
-A “war socialism” policy is announced, whereby many buildings are reopened or tents set up as makeshift hospitals or factories. Teenagers are often employed (in order to reduce youth unemployment) to manufacture guns and ammo, a lot of which leaks into the black market. Criminal gangs often cut deals and end up running many of these makeshift factories.

Telepethi – Germany/European Executive
Capital: Berlin/Brussels
-The German government (and also a new policy by the EU) introduces a new research program, focusing on the fields of anti-gravity, cryostasis, and cold fusion. The party and chancellor are criticized for spending money on unproven theories. The scientific community of Europe calls the policy a disgrace, with anti-gravity and cold fusion grants untouched or funneled elsewhere by scientists. Cryostasis does possess some merit however, and some cyrobiologists plan on freezing and reviving mice for 3 months and then reviving and studying them for a further 3. Cold fusion and antigravity “scientists” promise to demonstrate their work in a similar timespan.
-The last step in the creation of a true European state begins. The centralization of all member state’s armed forces begins, creating one massive military named the Europäische Streitkräfte (ESK). Along with this centralization comes a “Service-by-Requirement” system. Free education for four semesters is provided after a required two years of service. This policy is incredibly unpopular among the European population as education is already free throughout all of Europe. Protests begin in earnest in Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Brussels, and Rome.
-The ESK’s uniforms are tweaked for each theater of war. New camouflages are created to help disguise yet distinguish the troops.
-Diplomats are sent to St. Petersburg in an effort to recruit them into the EU. Promises of help in the unification of Russia are offered. St. Petersburg is considering the offer.
-The German and EU governments announce a new infrastructure project, intended to reduce unemployment and develop the railways, along with energy independence. Plans for several fusion plants begin, and designs are also drawn up for maglev and high speed lines to connect the capital cities of Europe. This includes changes to the channel tunnel and significant investment into the railways of the Eastern European and Balkan member states. While plans exist for conventional High Speed lines and maglev, the policy group is now asking the government for which system to favour (maglev being more expensive and time consuming to build) as they start work on the network.
-These reforms go poorly however, especially after the German government demanded EU institutions to be moved to German. The EU parliament holds a vote of no confidence and blocks all legislation proposed until the conscription clause in the military reform is removed. Protesters often call for the government to resign, and the extensive freedom of the internet and media in the EU means that protest movements can mobilize quickly and widely.

Pezgod1 – Ciscaucasia
Capital: Pyatigorsk
-The ramshackle Ciscaucasian government has largely inherited whatever existing facilities they got from the Russian federation, but they are useful nonetheless. Drone technology has been utilized for half a century, but due to conservatism and the discomfort of using robots for combat, they have not yet replaced air forces. Ciscaucasia has no such luxury, and begins to churn out drones flown by men trained in bootlegged Microsoft flight simulator copies. Ad hoc improvements are being made, with the first standardized model to be designed in 3 months and built in 6. Several nuclear weapons were also captured, and Ciscaucasia plans to restore them to working order in the same timespan as the drones. GMO crops and agricultural robots have also been stolen. Experimental urban and vertical farms utilizing these crops and robots are to be designed in 3 months, prototyped in 6, and begin adoption sometime after.
-Efforts begin to reform the military of Ciscaucasia. Due to the lack of cohesion and prior experience it is slow going. Guerrilla warfare training becomes a heavy focus.
-Conscription begins in Ciscaucasia as a means to bolster military strength and ensure the protection of the nation from Russian attacks.
-The military is moved to the northern border to defend from potential attacks from Russian regions.
-An alliance of circumstance is created. Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan all join in an alliance dubbed the Caucasian Agreement.
-Ciscaucasia applies for NATO membership. NATO is currently making its decision.
-In efforts to formalise itself as a legitimate independent state, as well as distancing itself from former Russian control, the North Caucasian Federation goes through three main changes after they hold their first general elections (amid some violence):
-Firstly, it renames itself Ciscaucasia, presumably because the former name implied the existence of a South Caucasian Federation. A new flag is introduced with the crescent, a nod to the Muslim population.
-A county division is formalized, keeping the 10 county system placed upon the former economic regions of Adygea, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkar, Karachay–Cherkessia, Kuban, Ossetia–Alania, Rostov and Stavropol.
-A constitution outlining the establishment of a parliamentary democratic republic is written. A man hailing from Ingushetia, Karilo Mansur, is elected as the first Prime Minister.
-An active free trade policy with her neighbours is pursued, with formal diplomatic relations quickly established with Georgia and the provisional Russian Petersburg government. They wish to open up the borders and promote business as soon as possible.
-The government relaxes controls on the media, although stating it will reserve the right to censor or block information of a dangerous nature (such as terrorism or military conflict) in case it may fall into the wrong hands.
-The new government, well aware of cultural differences in Ciscaucasia, introduces a 25 year plan. In this plan, the Russian language will slowly be phased out, in favour of the language of the most populous ethnicity in the region; Chechen. Emigration between states is encouraged as well, while local languages are to be introduced in schools. Although widely popular among the population there, the Russian residents have a public outcry and demand assistance in “ending the rule of the Chechen fascists.” They beat up Chechens when possible, stone and firebomb houses, and some are demanding that the military should intervene to protect ethnic Russians.

Hole – Japan
Capital: Tokyo
-The Japanese are often keen to develop camouflage technologies, and as such have started development on an active camouflage for tanks, covering them in cheap OLEDs which change depending on the environment. With oil prices also fluctuating often, the Japanese are trying to develop more efficient hydrogen cells and electric motors and batteries, along with biofuels. They have of course existed for a long time, and have been encouraged for just as long, but only now have they started to compete heavily with traditional fuels. Drones are also being fitted into aircraft carriers, intended for wider military applications and to eventually replace pilots. These projects are all slated to take 3 months to leave the design stage, with field trials and experiments to be conducted by September.
-The military begins using shear-thickening fluid body armor, allowing added flexibility while providing great protection from small-arms fire.
-Paratrooper insertion training improves.
-The rearmament of Japan begins. Plans are laid down to build three naval aircraft carriers.
-Northern Japan hosts a series of military exercises by the Japanese paratroopers. The aim is to improve their ability to perform in combat behind enemy lines, wreaking havoc and preventing the enemy from adequately defending itself from a main attacking force.
-The Far Eastern Union Pact is signed with Manchuria.
-South Africa pre-purchases a series of Artificial Intelligence systems.
-With some right wing politics on the rise, several reforms are pushed through which gives additional powers to the Emperor. The Emperor is confused about these powers and is rather annoyed about the extra responsibilities, but he is now present at cabinet meetings and holds a little influence in how they are run.
-Japan also lifts several environmental regulations (to the protest of some) on deep sea mining, and companies are now readily prospecting and waiting to buy rights to various areas to mine.
-Plans are also announced for the first in a wave of projects “energy islands”. Plans have been drawn up to put floating power plants in the bays or off the coasts of various Japanese cities, using water temperature differentials to produce energy. Construction has begun onshore in several factories and shipyards, after which they will be towed out to sea.
-The government pays SpaceX to launch two satellites and position them over the Asian-Pacific region. Their purpose is unknown.
-The first lab grown legs are successfully implanted on an amputee, giving the choice of cheap artificial limbs and now relatively expensive, but fully functional legs.
-The Emperor, after being assigned his new powers and responsibilities, holds a major speech at the Diet, speaking about the future of Japan. He mentions the future peacekeeping activities that Japan will be conducting in China, much to the approval of the visiting crowds.

Darkrei9n – Peoples Militia
Capital: Pyongyang
-While the revolutionaries fighting the brutal dictatorship of Kim Jong-Un do not exactly have the best possible resources to commit to a research effort, they do however have the ability to steal and repair anything not nailed down or get help elsewhere. Creating a special electronic currency similar to bitcoin (before it collapsed in the 2020s), they have begun minting tokens with “Peoples Coins” on them, and these are difficult to counterfeit. Of course, the infrastructure necessary and adoption will take at least several months.Missiles ranging from potato launchers to ICBMs have been stolen, but many are in a state of disrepair or lack spare parts or ammunition. Agricultural robots (mostly leased to NK in the 2030s by China) have also been stolen and reprogrammed or repaired. Again, it will be several months before the missiles or robots are functioning smoothly once more (provided the militia wins the war). At least the robots will be ready in time for the expected bumper harvest this year.
-Supply caches are created throughout North Korea to allow resupply in just about any location. A squad is placed at each cache to watch for North Korean government movements.
There is no truly defined border to defend
-New recruits are taught about the value of each life and taught better small-unit tactics to preserve their lives. They are reminded that charging headstrong into an enemy squad is a sure way to die.
You don’t currently have a navy of any significant size.
-The northern border of North Korea is cut off from DPRK’s military by a sweeping maneuver to cut off any potential aid from any Chinese group. Immediately following this maneuver the region is taken by the Manchurian military by force.
-Recruitment of new rebels in occupied towns begins, allowing further disruption of DPRK operations.
-The new provisional government is set up by the opposition, being extremely disorganized and unsure of what to do. They start to draft a new constitution, based on the South Korean constitution. So far, they have announced that citizens will be granted extensive political, social, and economic freedoms
-A new currency has also been introduced, but due to infrastructural problems, the revolution, and actually backing up or maintaining the currency, introduction has been held off for now, in favour of using foreign “hard” currencies and cryptocurrencies.

Griffster26 – Manchu Clique
Capital: Changchun
-The breakaway Manchu, a region known for its relatively advanced economy decades before the Deng Xiaoping reforms, has been using their facilities for the benefit of the Communist party in the past century. Now with them gone, they have declared the start of 3 major projects. The first is a new generation of military rations. Improving on MREs, they use the technology used by space agencies to make astronauts food palatable and nutritious. The first production models are slated for September. There are also efforts to make a type of bolt-action rifle (horribly obsolete but cheap to manufacture and rugged) that can be built by people at home (often using 3D printers) quickly and easily. Designing them to work reliably (and also finding a way to procure ammo) will take 3 months, and another 3 before the first models can be tested. Finally, there are also plans to make a “civilian-safe” landmine which can be detonated after a conflict ends, or at least have a locating system. Prevention of premature detonation from spies is a problem of course, and it will take 3 months before a blueprint is ready, with an additional 3 before the first mines can be tested.
-Manchurian troops begin a massive attack on Mengjiang to their west, pulling in support from the Mongols. The invasion begins efficiently but slows around a month in due to a large February storm. This allows time for Mengjiangan troops to bolster their defenses around Peking and hold firm. The northernmost region of North Korea is also invaded and almost immediately taken from the North Korean rebels there. This should not be seen as an act to support the DPRK though. A free-for-all has erupted in North Korea instead, three militaries vying for the region.
-An alliance with the Mongols is signed. Attempts to ally with the Uighur fall through due to a disagreement on post-war political philosophies.
-Manchuria officially announces their independence from the People’s Republic of China.
-The Far Eastern Union Pact is signed with Japan.
-In an attempt to control the violence widespread, the new government bans attacks on ethnic and religious minorities, using the army to control rioters. Refugee camps are set up as well, although they suffer from shortages and have high rates of violence in them. Overcrowding is another problem, as refugees from all around Manchuria and within Manchuria itself flood into them.
-A provisional anti-communist government is established, run by a generalissimo and a president. Both are supposedly elected positions, although the first two in power are appointed until elections can take place. Ping Huang and Shi Lin are the first such leaders of the Manchu Clique, both being members of the Manchurian National Party, looking to establish an independent Manchu state. The political groups currently in Manchuria are: Manchurian National Party, Beiyang Party, Manchu Socialist Party, Warlord Party, Bolshevik Party, the Qing Party, and the Chinese Democratic Party.
-The new government also promises economic reforms and to “build things up to pre-war levels”. Of course, with no idea of how to actually carry out these plans or enact such policies, they go nowhere.

Native Hunter – India
Capital: New Delhi
-India, one of the great homes of innovation, has capitalized well on the second Green revolution, and is now drawing up plans for a special type of pump. They are presently designing equipment that can drill several kilometres into the crust and extract water (sometimes hot water full of minerals and undiscovered microbes) for agricultural use. The first experimental design is planned to be constructed in 6 months. Improvement of depleted uranium armour is also underway for a wider variety of applications besides tanks, although is it doubtful they can find many, with reports to be given in 3 months. The last and most interesting project involves building ships out of prefabricated sections, manufactured partly in large factories that do the skeleton of the ship, while specialized facilities would use 3D printers for the rest, often building onto the prefabricated sections during construction. Such methods have existed for a few years already, but only now is an integrated project to build full sized ships rapidly using these facilities with the latest technology underway. Shipyard improvements are expected to take 6 months, while programming the machines and designing the first ship for them will take 3.
-Training of Indian troops intensifies due to the instability that surrounds them.
-Funding boosts are made for the production of military products. Tank, jet, ships, etc all begin to be produced at higher rates.
-Large patrols begin along the borders of Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Pakistan demands an explanation.
-In a landslide election the Hathi Sira nationalist party has won the election for the office of president and is expected to win up most of the congress. It immediately proposes several new laws, including one banning child labour. The law is passed with little opposition.
-The party also pushes through several laws which nationalizes several key industries. Chief among them are automotive, weapon, and solar panel factories. One of their policies is to produce zero-carbon energy, so in the process they are also wanting to affix solar panels to factories and make cars rely more on electricity. Solar panel manufacturers are very pleased, and tip some of the politicians who helped push through these laws.

Quandilotor – Brazil
Capital: Brasília
-The Brazilian government, in an policy change, announces a major program for water purification. Since the 19th century, many attempts at cleaning water have been made, with success becoming much more prominent in the 21st century as campaigns to eradicate lack of access to plentiful and clean water came underway. To ensure continued good supplies, the government is now giving out grants to develop technology that cleans water more cheaply, in greater quantities, and using less energy. With so much focus on water purification, many prototyped designs are already complete or with funding existing models can finally be built. Prototypes will be available in 3 months, and some companies are looking to begin commercial sales in as little as 6 months.
-Recruitment campaigns begin to boost the strength of the Brazilian military. The number of active military personnel is already at 375,000.
-A new special forces unit is organized. Named “Aperto Firme”, the unit utilizes the top 5% of the Brazilian military for high risk missions. They are to begin operations within the year.
-Guyana and Suriname are invaded. They are annexed within the first two months. The UN demands a halt. The US sends a separate demand to stop their aggression or face heavy economic consequences.
-50,000 troops are sent to the border of Venezuela. Venezuela bolsters their defenses and places 60,000 in response. They demand that Brazil stand down.
-Brazil attempts to create an alliance with Argentina. Argentina refuses and demands that Brazil stop their aggressive actions.
-Brazil offers to purchase French Guiana from France for $850,000. When told the offer the French diplomat spit out his tea in laughter before realizing that the Brazilian diplomat was serious.
-A campaign to bring tourists to Brazil begins.
-The Brazilian government announces it will introduce a series of reforms to increase living standards up to those comparable in the United States and Europe. However, with little direction as to which specific policies they will enact, not much headway has been made. They have been given a great deal of suggestions however from all walks of life.
-The government also announces it will crack down on gang activity. In a similar fashion it is unknown by which means to undertake this, but the police think they know what to do. Many corrupt or ineffectual chiefs and police are kicked out of the force, and heavy crackdowns begin on organized crime.
