Actually I planned to go to the farlands in the nether on .net because the top of the nether is perfectly flat, so I can speedhack easily up there. I don't believe it matters if its in the nether or not though, but it is stored as its own map so...

Since there is Sprinting in 1.8, it will probably be impossible to stop speed-hacks(at sprinting speed anyway)

*player is moving faster than normal
*Are they sending a sprint command? If so allow, if not revert position. Keep tabs on how long they're sprinting so they can't perpetually sprint.
*Are they in a boat? If not revert position.
*Are they falling under the normal rules for falling? If not revert position.

In reading this thread, I have come to a conclusion.
When faced with the brutality of survival, people do different things.
Some form tribes or villages, preferring the company of others for security and relief, knowing that they have someone on their side (allegedly). Some stay on their own, becoming xenophobic shut-ins, attacking any wayward travelers on sight to defend their precious loot. Hell, if Notch added it, I wouldn't be surprised if there were cannibals who relied on under-equipped adventurers for both sustenance AND materials. There are many different people who play 2b2t, each who do their own things when faced with survival - you do what you have too to choose to succeed, let alone thrive.
And some become asshats who master the dark magicks of flying, X-Ray Vision and subsonic speeds, effectively buttfucking you at every turn.
