It's been more than a month now, that I'm having difficulties to connect to Minecraft server each time I want to play. It always says "Failed to connect [...] try again". After 2 or 3 retries it works.
Now we can't connect at all, very nice.
Minecraft.net may be down.

Some guy made a cartograph of a 20000x20000 1.8 map, and it basically showed that around 15k out there would be 99% ocean generating, if that is in the final release, it'll probably make 2b2t and alike much less fun.

That means walk 2k in the nether, make a portal and then just get in a boat and sail for a few days nonstop. Then all you do is build some base underground and done. Not much fun, all that ocean.
Most of the world up to 100k is 1.73 land anyway; there are other ways to find bases than manually looking for them (the rule 'don't trust anyone' is there for a reason).
I personally love the new generation. It's much better than 1.7 by a long shot. The oceans are incredible.
