Bukkit will hopefully roll out a recommended build for 1.7.3, in which case the server will be reopened.

The server owner uses Bukkit as a measure to prevent speed- and flyhacking since it's a significant performance factor when the server has 60-70 people online flying in different directions at great speed.

Don't quote me on this, but a multiplier of no more than 2.5 should work for run speed only. It may or may not work by now, but you could try it out once the server is available.

Personally, I don't really care if people use hax or modded clients. Most of the time it doesn't really affect me, especially if they use flymods to leave the central 10,000 of the server. Once people are out of this area, they might as well not be on the server as far as I'm concerned. Almost all of my bases, besides my first one, have been either somewhat or entirely above ground. The only one that was greifed was the one underground. As I see it, if people have Xray, and look into a mildly destroyed base and see some chests strewn about, they aren't going to stop to look around. They might take some torches, but they won't bother to dig 4 blocks down in the corner of the second room from the left on second to last floor of the mine.
tl;dr: don't build bases underground, you'll last longer. :downs:

It's just not cool. Why do anything on the server if someone will instantly find and destroy it? It takes the fun out of the game for a lot of people (including me).

they don't really instantly find it, it's not like anybody has access to logs of block placement (there aren't any). Otherwise, that's kind of the point of this server. Build something cool, log off, eat, sleep, wake up, go to work, come home during lunch break, rage cause your giant gold phallus got tnt nuked, stay mad for the rest of the work day, come home at night, don't play and go straight to sleep, wake up Saturday morning, play the whole day building another one.
This is the style of this server, and for some people, this is the fun of the game (including me).
