Exactly right. And the fun part is finding out you've been griefed by someone creative. For a while there was a group going around called DARK CARNIVAL (if I recall correctly).
These guys carved a giant swastica out of the side of my castle, BUT, they didn't stop there... they reproduced the exact same swastica shape on the ground, next to the hole they made. So that it looked like a swastica fell out of the wall.
Then, on the top of my giant multi-tiered round tower, they installed a huge wool penis. Nicely colored, and spurting semen of white wool down the side of the tower. There were plenty of signs placed around stating "HONK HONK HONK".
THAT is the kind of style I'm looking for in a quality grief.
Your random lava dumper or tunnel flooder is fun at times too... then there are just the scary people, who meticulously remove 300 torches from every part of your base...One by one. Or spend three hours deconstructing a fortress to take the cobble.
I enjoy rebuilding. If nothing happens for a few weeks, it gets old. Messing with the game mechanics by having 10 people flying 100K blocks out searching for ultra remote bases and lagging everyone so that they can't even build or grief.... that's not enjoyable. And that's why were sitting here bitching at each other instead of playing.

We(that trinity stuff went for a raid on the spawn when we spotted your base while walking. No need of x-ray, I saw your nameplate through the ground...
You were duping diamond blocks in your farming room, so we waited for you to disconnect.
Then we looted all the good stuff, and filled your base with TNT. And then we blew it up :)
And then we carved our logo above the entrance(but I did it wrong, my bad guys)
Feel free to find our base. Don't bring any TNT, there's plenty in our base, since we duped a shitload and filled some double chests with stacks of TNT.

Yeah it was small, but name plates remain still and you see them above everything.
For the TNT, I have no idea how much the 3 of us used..
And we took all the good stuff that was in your base. As we duped shits of stuff, we manly took stuff like slime balls and other items we can't duplicate. We mainly took ideas, though. You guys are good home decorators!

Notch needs to get his shit together, I mean do you see people no clipping around in CS:S? Also as for the X-ray you can just have a black list of class files and then permanently ban that person.

What I like to do when this server is down is build an intricate base on single player, fill it with diamond chests, then walk away and pretend I'm some uber-leet explorer who has stumbled upon it as I would do in 2b2t, then leave signs everywhere insulting my other self...
