I found some long lost madman's laboratory. It has just about everything in the game, including shit tons of diamond, gold, and iron blocks. It also has probably thousands of TNT.
It is wonderful.
One thing I hate about my keyboard is that when I press F3 it doesn't show the coordinates in game.
It just shows all the windows that are open :smith:

Someone should just make a base that's pretty much just flooded, both outside and inside. There would be periodic breathing areas in each room, but for the most part, it would be impossible to blow up.

It would take a lot longer to replace water blocks, and destroying it would be slow. In that time, people could attack the attackers.
And living there would be annoying as fuck.
Easier just to travel as far as you can from spawn, then make a hidden underground base. And pray that no xrayers find you.
Well while i was building, i fell into a cave infested with monsters and died; and I forgot to reset my spawn point, so I'm done with that base....

Yeah that first sign was to throw off some people so badly that they go insane and dont know what to do, so they just jump in the water and drown themselves because they ended up at a dead end.

I made a hidden bed but Minecraft says it can't be found or it was destroyed(I killed myself right in front of my bed to test it) and I respawned at spawn. Fuck.

Make sure the bed has space to every side, is properly seated on the ground and has at least 2 blocks till roof.

Someone using a x-ray hack. With this hack you only see the blocks you select.
The "lair" that I found was apparently ransacked by what I assume is an xrayer, because they found every hidden part of it as well, including my hidden bed, which they replaced with a pit of lava. Luckily for me I didn't log out near said bed.
So since it was compromised, I did the only logical thing I could think of: Take as much valuable and useful crap as I could (64+ diamond blocks, for instance) and fill the lair with over 300 blocks of TNT, then detonate.
So now, no one can use its power.
