Middle East: the land where changing your flag is normal.
To be fair I was pretty tired of having a Ba'ath flag
It was April 1965, when I visited Persia for the first time. My time there is engraved upon my memory. I took one of the old routes to the capital Tehran, a route that at times was little more than a narrow dirt track. Although we crawled through the middle of the countryside, the road was absolutely full of people. There was an extraordinary juxtaposition of eras: women walking with their animals and carrying their produce, farmers riding bicycles, the occasional lorry trundled along what was an excuse for a road. In the fields and orchards alongside those roads worked the common peasantry. They wore the traditional clothing, held to the old customs, and prayed to allah as did every other man, woman, and child for the past thousand years.
But there was something fundamental changing. A country in motion, its people living for the present and looking for opportunity as if this were the only chance they had to seize it. I was engulfed by a wave of energy, willpower, creativity. Speculative, chaotic, dynamic, and a complete mess. It certainly was a mess, you could see construction everywhere as you moved towards the city. The road was half-made, the half-finished buildings spreading outwards from the ancient city. It was like a giant construction zone spreading outwards.
Just three years later I tried to retrace my steps with a news crew. There was not a single familiar sight I could find. The dynamic chaos was giving way to order. A plethora of brand new expressways, factories, warehouses, housing, railways, and a lot more cars. There was no longer the sign of the old juxtaposition of the old eras that fascinated me a few years ago. There were a few old mosques, but they lay empty, even though it was friday. I wanted to find the old sights to take pictures of, but when I asked the officials in their western suits they shrugged their shoulders as if to suggest it was in the distant past. For me it was barely three years ago, but to them it may as well have been a thousand.

Global Events
- Soviet influence worldwide begins to wane as countries that were originally loyal to the USSR begin to lean towards NATO, or worse, to China
- Consumer electronics such as televisions and radios become all the rage in western countries as Middle-Eastern factories begin to pump out cheaper, more readily available products than the original monopoly holders, the Japanese
- Tensions throughout the world begin to cool as the threat of global warfare is considered a ‘thing of the past’ as the USSR begins to turn to isolationism
----

Euro-NATO Events
- British and French soldiers continually patrol the borders between the two Germanies, as American troops are focused in Vietnam
- Much of the smaller NATO states, like Portugal and Denmark, breathe a sigh of relief as their slack is picked up by the newly-added Middle-Eastern counterparts
- The Federal Republic of Germany begins to outshine its eastern brother, as factories and industry finally make the recovery after WW2 and the following occupation
---

WARPACT Events
- The Eastern Bloc begins to tug at its Soviet leash. Nations like Czechoslovakia and Albania look to go the route of Yugoslavia, and Soviet advisors are sent into a tizzy
- Protests break out in Katowice, Poland, as principals and teachers take to the streets to express their dislike of the controlled, Pro-Soviet curriculum in schools. These protests are met with tear gas, water hoses and, eventually, tanks
- Soviet troops are moved into bloc countries in order to ensure Soviet influence in the region. However, many bloc country leaders are uneasy with the arrival of troops, and whispers of mutiny float on the wind from time to time
---

Sino-Soviet Events
- The tensions have finally snapped, and the People’s Republic of China has officially pulled itself away from support of the Soviet Union, no longer allowing for joint defensive or research agreements
- The Soviets are not surprised, as pushes from Persia and the US alike have managed to unhinge the delicate relationship between the two Red Giants. Nonetheless, Moscow feels the pain of losing arguably their most important ally
- To further drive a wedge between the two countries, the Chinese have halted arms trade with the North Vietnamese government, and have blockaded Soviet officials from entering the country through Chinese soil
---

Vietnam War Events
- Combat begins to draw to a close as American forces have managed to crush the North Vietnamese air-force, ultimately crippling one of the last lines of North Vietnamese defence
- With the lack of Soviet advisors and Chinese supplies, the North Vietnamese army slowly begins to run out of resources to continue the fight
- If all keeps up, the United States and South Vietnam may indeed finally capture Hanoi within the coming year

The TEU will be introducing a new infrastructure policy, based upon the success of the new high speed railway networks undergoing expansion in Persia.
The plan is for an extension of the high speed lines to all TEU members, cutting down on travel times and transportation costs.
