Ahh, sorry, will turn it in ASAP, I was not home all day saturday until 8 PM, which I then promptly went to bed exhausted. [editline]20th September 2015[/editline] Submitted.
Turn tonight? :D
Turn tonight? :D
No longer likely. Today was supposed to be an easy day but it kicked my ass instead.
No longer likely. Today was supposed to be an easy day but it kicked my ass instead.
Can we expect it thursday? [sp]Are threads deleted if they leave the feed?[/sp]
So long as nothing else goes haywire this week, Thursday night is a reasonable "at the latest" time. And no, threads aren't deleted if they leave the first couple of pages. In fact, there's a setting somewhere that allows you to browse over 100 pages back; I have it turned on.
Are you kids ready for insect insanity?! Technology out the wazoo and resources for days. Who wants to trade?
Only if you show me the kinkier side to ovipositors :q:
Bad news. One thing that I don't do when I GM is make up excuses for why turns take so long to come out, or why I want to stop writing and do something else. I'm not going to say that there's been a death in the family, or that I have the flu. I am going to own up and admit that I simply can't handle this game anymore, and that the amount of time and energy it requires to manage is something I'm not capable of at this point. Not only have we been at a dozen players (with people queuing for entry on top) since almost the beginning, but something I didn't realize was going to happen was an almost universal level of interconnectivity between nations and technological trades. Don't get me wrong though, you guys have been great. Some of you have played a stronger game than I thought RPers on this forum were capable of playing, with simple yet refined economic, foreign, and military policies which I believe would play out brilliantly in real life. In all honesty I wish I were a player in this game rather than the GM. However, between my responsibilities as a full-time student and a part-time employee, my personal time has dwindled at the same time as the level of complexity involved with producing the turn has skyrocketed. I underestimated just how hard it would be to do what I've been doing, and I'm sorry. I've been more candid with Firesale69 than any other player, although he might not be the only person I've told that I haven't had fun making this RP. Lately it's felt much more like a chore than a game, which is quite different from how my last RP, Rising Powers, turned out. Maybe it's because I had less competing responsibilities at that time; I don't know. Turn 6 has been cancelled, and now the important question which remains is, where do we go from here? I want you all to have a say rather than just unceremoniously dumping this thing and moving on to my next project (full disclosure: I'm supposed to be GMing Spaceship Crew RP II after this, although for a cornucopia of reasons that thing is going to be both easier to do and more fun). Someone else can GM this game from here on, and I could forward the turns, or I could post one big out of character assessment of how everyone was doing and how I thought the game would eventually pan out. If neither of those sound good, we could also have a big group chat and we could come to a consensus on what might have been an appropriate ending. I know some of you are probably really pissed at me, or maybe just sad that this is yet another game that died early, but I ask that you remain civil and try to put yourselves in my shoes. I'm very tired.
:disappoint:
OK, I'll admit that I'm disappointed that the whole thing ended this way, but also impressed that you had it going for so long with so many people and so much other stuff happening in your life. I'm also a little annoyed that all the plotting, scheming and rewrites me and the others had to do was for nothing, but that's what happens I guess. I'm up for whatever people want to do from here.
C'est la vie. The OOC assessment sounds nice
I'd rather have someone skilled and known as a good GM take over.
Yeah, this sucks. I GM games at my friendly local game store, but 12 people is too much. The OOC assessment sounds good, and over all I enjoyed the game while it lasted. I might start up my own game if anyone is interested. It'd be science fiction and operate on a somewhat smaller scale.
It was going to be nice when I finally built up enough technology to make it near impossible for anyone to even come into the water. Although its ok Sega Saturn. I didn't know you were working a part time job as well as going to school. I would be having problems too.
Alright, so I'm going to go ahead and do that OOC assessment I promised. To begin, this would have been the power ranking after turn 6, which can be taken as one way of assessing success: 1. The Hollow ↑ 2. Gorkania ↑↑ 3. Umburian Collective ↓↓ 4. Sectium ↑ 5. Argak ↑ 6. Imperium Romana ↓↓↓ 8. Telyria* 9. Panopti ↑ 10. Indavi Realm ↑ 11. Nenetian Republic ↓↓ 11. Kingdom of Calliope ↑ 12. The Fathomless Depths ↓ Imperium Romana, which had been the second or third most powerful nation for most of the game, had just been skipped on a turn wherein they entered a war with Vikingr. This caused them to fight the war without effective leadership, damaging their strength slightly. As I understand it, EuSKalduna contacted Killerabv to secure a military alliance, as Rome's weak neighbor was now replaced by a very strong rival, and would have attacked the Umburians by surprise. However, Killerabv tipped off Firesale69 and the two conspired to turn the tables on Rome. That's why they would have dropped in strength considerably. However, things wouldn't have gone down the way Firesale would have expected, and definitely not how he wanted. First of all, Rome did not invade in turn 6 like its enemies believed it would. Umburia dedicated most of its military efforts to guarding against the attack, setting up traps, etc, whereas Killerabv at least included a clause in case the Romans didn't attack- and his solution was to use Shades to imitate Roman officers and issue false orders to attack, a false-flag maneuver. For a number of reasons, I feel like the whole thing would have been a clusterfuck. It's hard to hide defensive war preparations. Couple that with an irate public which witnesses said fortifications and would cross the border between the two halves of their shattered nation, spreading the news, and it's undeniable that the Romans would have known the Umburians were gearing up. While some of the Shades' activities would have succeeded, EuSKalduna was also running counterespionage and would have picked up on it, exposing the Hollow's betrayal before the war could begin in earnest. The end result of all this poor execution would have played out like this: Rome picks up on the enemy's plot before it can be executed and plans accordingly, deploying in defensive positions. The Umburians engage in the east and attempt to flank using a second force coming from the north. The Romans, having both a slight numerical advantage here as well as the high ground and support from the local populous (Rome would have treated the Vikingr citizens better than the Umburians,) would have allowed them to repel the attack and send the Collective into retreat. However, Rome simply wouldn't have had the numbers to hold off the Hollow, attacking from the south. After several turns, my expectation would have been a Roman surrender to the Hollow, with the war being costlier for the Umburians than beneficial. Meanwhile, Nenetia's naval forces lag behind the Collective's technological advancements due to everyone hurling free technology at the latter. The only saving grace in turn 6 is that the Collective has once again neglected the Nenetian War to focus on another land conflict, using most of his navy to besiege the Roman ports. However, Firesale69 would ultimately have the last laugh here, as he had infiltrated the Nenetian government near the beginning of the game through bribery and coercion, setting up a time bomb- Turn 6 would have seen the election of a new monarch, and Firesale's efforts would have seen the senate fall into disarray over whether to appoint a pro- or anti-war leader. The Indavi Realm was preparing for an eventual conflict with Nenetia as a result of extortion from Firesale and his allies. At any point, turn 6 or later, he could have seized the Obelisk belonging to Nenetia. Overall, the results of these wars would have set up the Hollow-Umburia-Indavi alliance, which would also have included Pezgod's new nation, Telyria, as the undisputed front runners of the game. To further reinforce this position, a previous edit of Umburia's turn 6 would have focused on the Nenetian war and would have been much more successful than the campaign against Rome. Assuming that he still would have attacked in turn 7 or 8, he would have discovered an Obelisk on an island along the way. Let's talk about the win condition. There were 7 hidden Obelisks and 7 hidden Gemstones. To win, a single player or alliance needed to control 3 of each, and have the Gemstones safely transported to the tops of said Obelisks. These conditions would have been revealed after the first monument had been "completed." So, who was most likely to gain the artifacts? This was the map as I saw it. Obelisks are marked with red boxes whereas Gemstones are in red diamonds. Red lines are drawn to the nations most likely to claim those artifacts. Some might look strange, such as the Obelisk in the center possibly going to the Hollow, but keep in mind that the Hollow would soon be picking up territory in what had been Rome, as well as a plan for turn 6 to establish a joint colony with Sectium along the way- which is why Sectium is also connected. The important thing is that, after the Nenetian War, the large alliance known as the Darkhand Coven would have been in possession of two Obelisks, and as a result of normal expansion and the inclusion of Telyria (located roughly where that isolated Gemstone is in the center of the continent), would have held at least three Gemstones. All they would need to do at that point is secure a final Obelisk to claim an allied victory, which the Hollow would have been well suited to do if they either took the isolated one in the east, or if they managed to discover the one to their northwest. Also possible- if Argak were to expand down that river (which I believe minelayer had planned) or if Calliope had expanded north, one of them would have found the Obelisk, which the alliance could possibly take in a war. A final possibility is if there were an allied invasion of Panopti, the last Obelisk could have been taken there. So what do the Obelisks do? It would have been revealed that the Obelisks were divine objects sent down by the powers that be so that the mortals could choose their paradise. By connecting three Obelisks using the power of the Gemstones, a polygonal opening into another plane would have been opened, and a god or goddess of the summoning nation's imagination would be called forth to remake the world. It would have also been revealed that the previous Champion of the Realm was a human nation which worshipped a god of chaos. Upon remaking the world, humans remained dominant but no peace could be found, no logic or reason in the Realm. This was the source of the Calamity. So, to summarize, the game was very imbalanced due to the strength of the one major alliance and the fact that everyone was contributing to its dominance rather than resisting it. This would have eventually led those allied countries to victory, with either the Hollow or the Umburian Collective as the dominant party, and with either Killerabv's choice of god or Firesale69's choice of god being summoned. That's my opinion on the matter.
Good game. Interesting to see how it would have panned out. Id be interested in playing with you guys again so hit me up on steam for any future RP endeavors.
Man, I wish I could say I was confident enough to take up the reins and do a successor RP. I've written on this sort of scale before but I dunno, would anyone be interested in trying a third time?

I'm gonna give it a go. Expect a thread up on Monday.
I'm gonna give it a go. Expect a thread up on Monday.
I'll give it a whirl. Already drumming up ideas for my nation.
Forgive me if I end up being unoriginal but Rome is the eternal city here and it will be the eternal city in that realm
