The base I had for about 3 years finally got raided a couple months ago.

Finally, after some tweaks and cockpit re-alignment, the airship is now lag-proof.
It can fly over spawn without any issues (unless you run into something obviously). If TPS gets too low, the machine will wait until the lag stops before moving again, preventing ejection.
Next time I will use it at height limit, but I'm glad to know that 2b2t's lag will no longer hinder flight.

Can you just fly that thing for as long as you want?
You can travel as far as you want as long as you remain logged in. If you disconnect, the machine will stop and require a restart.
Do that on the nether roof. You only get kicked down if you move yourself - if an entity moves you, you won't get kicked.

I'm not sure. I haven't found a way but I bet you could come up with something if you messed around in creative.

I remember seeing a better design but you can't make it look amazing, no real switches, to turn it off you'd place a block and to turn it back on you'd remove a block. Pistons can push a total of 8 blocks so, yeah.
silentpedro's design is actually pretty bad anyway (no offence), just by looking on youtube you'll find a better design within 5 minutes.

Not that long. About 8 of us arrived late November 2014. Four of us spent about a good month on it. Then I have been there for the last 3 weeks finishing it off.
