From what I've seen so far of the first 1.9 snapshot, all the changes to the landscape are in the End. Hopefully a full map reset is out of the question?

It depends on what happens. At this point it's looking unlikely, with a moderate possibility of wiping the end (despite the work put into some of the structures there.)

There's signs in the nether to get there if I remember correctly. I think I saw the path start near the spawn portal.

I accidentally fell into ejonkou's nether portal and got myself completely lost in the Nether. It's the first time I spend any extended amount of time in the Nether and with the ambient sounds mod I've been using the whole place was spooky as fuck.
Eventually I found a torch path, which was a massive relief because I was starting to think I'd be lost forever. I hopped into the first Nether portal I could find to try and get back to civilization and what do you know, I ended up here:

I visited Squidmurder, really neat place. Felt like I was in an aquarium.
Got me to reading, found this was neat:

Took down the spawn border. It was useless at this point as now spawn has expanded outside of the border
I propose a new boder, an unmarked one, containing everything in this box:

The ring around spawn had nothing to do with where the buildings were. It was an indicator for where the spawn chunks themselves were.

One thing spawn does need is better lighting. I would offer some lanterns but I'm running low.
