Btw, can we shorten/destroy the two towers that hit build height? I think the title of "tallest building" should go to something, erm, more aesthetically attractive

I suspect those carpet patches are to cover torches or pumpkins. It means you can have reasonable lighting in the area without having too much deviation from the green floor colour.

That's right. There are torches underneath. I did it. Originally I also made bone meal grass to hide them even more but somebody cut it all down.
If people think they are ugly they can be removed. I just get tired of super-dense torches so I was trying to think of alternative lighting designs and wanted to try it out.

I honestly don't see whats wrong with putting the animals there.
There were some there before, and I didn't see anyone with a claim on the area inside the cobblestone fence.
It isn't really in anyone's way as there wasn't anything in that area before.

Subjectively the tree thing upset people - it is kind of trolling/griefing. Then people will look at the animals in a similar light and assume you had the same intentions.
Objectively it is disordered, noisey, not helping people and has the potential of animals leaving the area and spreading all over the town.

I don't know if I should be happy or worried that this server is suddenly getting so active again. One the one hand, we have more people playing and posting, and on the other hand, it's mainly because of a borderline griefer.

The "farm" isn't private, and I can put a gate there instead of the block that sitting on the inside of the cobblestone fenced area.

ASIC do you fancy a joint collab thing for an automated animal farm? Feed the cows some corn and the babies get swept away by water then stored in some kinda area then when they grow they get burnt providing people with easy and plentiful leather and cooked meat.
Or a cooked chicken dispencer dressed as a coca cola vending machine.

It's not good to put lots of animals in the spawn, because the spawn chunks are always loaded. Having too many entities in the spawn area can lag the server. I'm not sure what the limits are for this. The amount of animals that were there when I saw yesterday might be fine, but this is something to keep in mind.
The same goes for big redstone gizmos in the spawn chunks, especially hoppers with an open top.

I'm up for it.
However there may be some problems with the implementation you are suggesting:
How are you going to automatically breed them?
How will the machine discriminate between adult cows and babies in the breeding area?
The reason automatic Chicken farms work is Chickens occasionally spawn eggs.

Babies go thru 1 high gap, adults don't. Use signs to hold a block of water in place and above that have blocks with slabs so the adult animals cant jump out. The babies then fall down and through the signs away from the adults. Water then carries the babies to some area, when they grow up they take up more than a full block and will be vulnrable to lava above them, so when they grow up they get burned and cooked in lava. It's not automatic but if someone feeds the cows every now and then it would provide a steady stream of meat. Just have a sign "if you take meat you gotta feed cows"
not sure where it would best go. Flowing water, redstone and a pile of cows is probably best to not have it near spawn, for everybodies sake.
We have an issue with the iron farm at spawn. I had another person with me to confirm the problem.
