Could put two upside down stairs together to make that small arch. Just can't fill the small gap between them with glass.
Make it open. Have an open lobby.
I'll pass these ideas onto him
New idea. If you wanted to do the windows on the first couple of floors, you could replicate the walls spaced a block inward, and put glass between them. I've done that when I needed inset windows in arches.
EDIT: So, I've done a little bit of work on a new spawn design, and I want some feedback. We were talking about designing a new spawn area, and I was offered an opportunity to design it, at least in part, but since it's a community thing I want you all to weigh in. So I sketched out a design today, and I kind of like it, but I'm not entirely sold. What needs to change?

Ideally, this would sit across the spawn lake, on this spot, directly in line with the train station, and there would be a bridge that connected with the city. So you would enter through what is more or less the main street.
I have a couple of sort of announcements related to my mesa area.
The first is I built a blaze grinder.

I built it last week but I've been testing it and making small changes. It's a slightly modified version of this farm here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XORCrgVinIo.
There are directions on how to use it posted at the kill room, but here they are again:
* Turn the machine on if it's off.
* Pull the lever to open the barrier if it's closed, so the blazes fall in to the kill zone as they spawn.
* When you have a bunch of blazes in the kill zone, close the barrier, then push the button to use the crusher. The crusher will take them down to like 1 health.
* Punch them to death (or use a splash potion).
There are signs making a big deal about turning the machine off before you leave (and actually you are normally forced to, because the tripwire at the exit will do it automatically), and that's because I discovered some strange behavior during testing. Basically what happened was I came back to the machine, and one row of the slime blocks was invisible, and the pistons looked as if they were moved 1 block over. I turned the machine off, and relogged so the chunks were reloaded and it was back to normal. So I think it's a chunk loading issue, possibly having to do with the "rapid-fire pistons pushing slime blocks stuck to pistons" design, but I'm not sure. There was also a magma cube in the spawner room, so it could have had something to do with that.
Anyway, the point is that the piston mechanism needs to be in its resting position when it is loaded and unloaded. Since doing that, I haven't had an issue. If you ignore the signs and try to leave the machine on, it can break. So don't do that.
It's a decent XP farm and of course generates blaze rods like crazy. I have 9 stacks already.
How to get there from just outside my Nether base:

The pathway might actually be ghast-proof now, but I'm not sure yet.
The second announcement is I've developed an area where people can build near me if the want to:

It's called "Round Ridge Resort". It's not really a 'town' per-se, it's just a place where people who want access to my farms, minecart track or the biome in general can build a small house. Most of the plots are sized for around 5x5 or 7x7 floor space. There is a nether portal as well as an overworld bridge. Here it is on the overviewer: http://map.athousandpandas.club/#/6237/64/1053/-2/0/0. There's no particular rule about style. You can build a house, or you can build a shack, a shed, a trailer or whatever floats your boat. If somebody does actually want a larger plot of land, we can work something out. Maybe join two plots together or something. But I really don't want to compete with the other towns for "town activity". It's just a place where you can feel confident building in my area.
Also, while this is not really a new announcement, I do have a massive slime farm. I've seen some people asking about slime balls. My slime farm is currently 3 chunks, which is about as massive as a slime farm gets. To give you an idea, it's generated 3 stacks of slime balls in the time it took me to write this post. To get there, you jump down the mine shaft in the large wood & cobblestone building at my base. It's right at the bottom.
Your place is more of an industrial center than any kind of town.
Which I absolutely love about it.

Thanks. I've actually thought about starting an area closer to spawn to build some really, really big farms, but I keep going back and forth on it. My area isn't really that inaccessible anymore.
Megaproject: Build a rail line from Spawn all the way to your Mesa.
I also don't mind building stuff for other towns. I just like building redstone. So if anybody wants like an automated steak farm, or chicken farm, or whatever it is, I can do that. (Depending on what it is. E.g. slime farms take a really long time and there isn't much point in building another.)

There is one, in the nether. Overworld would just be hellish. God damn. Scenic to ride, anyway.
We have an overworld rail from Victoria to spawn (well its mostly underground though) and that shit took 7 months to build.
And takes 10 minutes one way.
Woolio, here's what I came up with. I went ahead and built it because there turned out not to be very many options for the 'lighthouse' aspect. The lights are barely visible through the glass, so my initial ideas weren't feasible. The only modification I made to the building is removing the glass panes, and they are in a chest at the top of the tower.

The left and right sides of each face flip-flop with a vertical wipe. It's difficult to really choose a particular pattern since the mechanism is so closely married to the geometry, but I think it's pretty good. There's a lever which turns it on.
If you don't like it, I'd like the redstone lamps back. (They don't break like glass and sea lanterns, so you can mine them with anything.) I can also tinker with it if you'd like it to be different in some way. I know this changes the shape of the top of the building.
Something else I'm sure I can do, either in addition or as an alternative is a vertical wipe of redstone torches all the way up one face of the building, in this position:

But I'd have to move the staircase, because I'd need the wells on either side. I'm also pretty sure I could do torches in a full 1-wide column (instead of every other block like in the screenshot), but I'd have to take every other block out of the inside corner, like this:

I could also do something like a circle of torches around the base of the building.
Also, if anybody else wants something like this, I can take a look at your building as well.

Wait wool are you destroying that upper half of spawn that no one goes to for this construction
Because it deserves to be destroyed
Also I'll help in any way I can
I can't even log in to Minecraft anymore. Minecraft.net doesn't load either. What the hell?

That hill there, and a bit of the surrounding area, should do nicely.

I just founded my village yesterday, Torinton. It's located far away from spawn but its kinda near WillaVanilla place though.
It's going to be somekind of medieval-ish village, with a fort and everything, feel free to come here to help or build your house.
Do it. If you want it, the lighthouse is your project. Get it working as you see fit.
Aaand, it's done. I think you'll be pleased with the result. A torch pulse goes up the front, and triggers the flip at the top. It's actually pretty sweet.
It's located far away from spawn but its kinda near WillaVanilla place though.
Which is fine, BTW. Like I was saying before, it's just a satellite area of mine. I get all my clay from the big swamp lake near there. (Which, if you needed bricks, is a good spot. I've probably only mined about 1/10 of it.)
Also, there are actually 3 villages there. There's one SE of you and one SW. That's why I built a portal there initially, although I haven't really been to any of them yet.

We should do a purge of another city soon...Wildeholt, how many unoccupied homes are there atm?

Do you mind if I:
* dry up the lake next to your hole (and some of the small ponds east of you),
* build an ink sac farm (it will be like a large bunker, maybe 16x16 or so, extending below ground to around level 40) right here: http://map.athousandpandas.club/#/4969/64/192/max/0/0
* and build a minecart track over from my nether portal.
You can say no, of course. This spot is just relatively ideal. (An ink sac farm should be 128 blocks from water on all sides, to control the squid spawns.) There are some other places in that desert I could put it.
And of course maybe you would like an ink sac farm and minecart station, I don't know.
edit: RBC is telling me Squidmurder will farm ink sacs, so I'm not sure now. Possibly, nevermind.
You are an industrialist to the nth degree, Willa... I love it.

What's up with the portal that used to go to the skeleton grinder? It's been moved to the train station.
I'd like to know why RBC has backed out of their building agreement with Glushenko, and if we're still collaborating on the NuSpawn project.
What's up with the portal that used to go to the skeleton grinder? It's been moved to the train station.
Many portals in that area got messed up, Wildenholt portal (in the owerwolrd) now exits in the skeleton grinder portal, and the previous Wildenholt portal (on the nether) isn't active anymore
I'd like to know why RBC has backed out of their building agreement with Glushenko, and if we're still collaborating on the NuSpawn project.
Oh hey,
I got too clogged up with other projects at the moment and the glushenko building has been moved down the priority list. I will come back to build it but not for a very long while, so if someone else wants the land, they can have it.
I'm still all in for NuSpawn but I still think we would need input from all current players as this is a thing that will involve/affect everybody.
Wildenholt portal (in the owerwolrd) now exits in the skeleton grinder portal, and the previous Wildenholt portal (on the nether) isn't active anymore
That really doesn't make any sense. The Wildenholt portals are well-aligned. I know one of them got turned off somehow, but we turned it back on.
I had something similar happen to the spawn portal. It was sending to some structure in the flower forest that I've never been to, near the big windmill. It seems weird because both spawn portals were on, so it looked like it was sending to a portal farther away. But I didn't check the coordinates. The spawn portal could be misaligned.
I just don't understand what changed to cause all this initially. The only actual change that I noticed was the skeleton grinder portal. This type of thing is why I spend so much time aligning portals correctly, because they can go bonkers if they aren't. It could also be some sort of server issue. I've had something like that happen before, where a portal that worked fine was suddenly recalculated for no apparent reason, and sent somewhere else. They get recalculated periodically and it should always yield the same result, but I've found that it doesn't occasionally.
If I know what changed initially, it's easier for me to figure out what the problem is. I'll look at it more closely tomorrow I guess, regardless.
