We've decided to start up a functional postal service, with branches in Spawn, Wildeholt, Glushenko and Vokzal. The core idea is that you can drop off items and mail you want delivered to another town, and every day that mail will be collected from all the cities and delivered to PO boxes in the post offices in each town.
We're still working out logistics, but the idea is that people will be assigned a post office, and each city will have a postal code, and by naming a book with the postal code and the recipient's PO box, and dropping it off at your local post office, you can send letters and packages to other towns.
I've worked it out, and it's a ten minute circuit through the nether, so it's totally feasible. I don't know if we'll be charging anything for it yet, but I'm sure we can figure out a decent solution to that. Also, it will only be operating in the major towns, but PO boxes will be provided to anyone who wants one, and never cleaned out.
I'm not really sure what value it'll serve, but it's a little bit more functional worldbuilding, and I think that's a good idea. We'll also be offering bank-related services, like deposit boxes, currency accounts, and the like, which will work through the same systems.
If anyone wants to help, there's plenty of work that needs to be done. Glushenko's the prototype, we still have to build three more of these things and set up all the systems that we're using. I think it can work, but I'm also mostly delusional from lack of sleep, so... We'll see.
EDIT: Also, if we see demand for such things, we might have recycling drop-off points. I really want these things to play off the existing industrial environment we've set up, so let me know if you've got suggestions for that.
ATTN: VISITORS TO VICTORIA AND USERS OF THE GREAT SOUTHERN RAIL LINE
I noticed recently that there are many people who visit the the Great South Rail for mining and more. Though personally I am happy that Victoria, the little outpost in the end, is getting traffic, please be courteous as a single-track rail is more complicated than double lines.
So basically,
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY UNATTENDED CARTS ON THE RAILS, this will cause other travelers to stop, or worse rebound backwards towards where they come from.
If you do need to get off, get off and carry your cart with you.
You can however leave the carts there if you get to the end of the line as the carts will be deposited into a cart trap.
I also came across this,

If you mined and struck water or anything similar please at least patch it up and replace the tracks.
The Great Southern Rail is a very long one and a single trip can take up to 10 minutes. As a result most players would go AFK while they're on the rails. Imagine their disappointment if they come back 10 minutes later only to find out they're stuck and not even halfway through.
Thanks for reading.
Could I be whitelisted please? IGN: streetster20
Do what you like with it!
There's nothing of value there for me, the only settlement I actively keep look after is 'Cactus Town'. There's nether and overworld-rail links to and from there though, go wild.
aight cool, i'm gonna work on fixing up the place now
where'd all the villagers go btw? there's only golems here
No one has come forward to claim the house, so I'm going to destroy it.

wow, went up like a tinderbox
Disagree for Pikzel.
...
And feel free to suggest other names. These are just ideas.
I like the Pixel/Voxel convention, but for the sake of consistency can we spell it as Pikzal and Vokzal?

Sure.
I'm seeing this from the overviewer but I noticed some slight griefing at the floating lighthouse thing at spawn. Not sure if has always been like that though. But yeah it looks like someone tried to set it on fire.

There were never more than a couple there. If they're gone, then they probably died out. Next time I'm on I'll try and convert a few if I still have the stuff.
Holy fuck I just found The Chickening.

1 FPS.

I don't know whether to trust the entity count, but it says over 7000 entities.
Holy fuck. Holy fuck.
I'd like to apply for Whitelist. IGN is Alex_Turik

Last time I visited that village I found a lot of villagers locked in their basements. Specifically the basement that leads to the beacon chamber. So I think someone came through and locked them all down in their basements if they have them.

Well I actually like Pikzal. Must be the different spelling. I will go along with that if thats what the vote determines. I changed my vote above to reflect that as well.

I'd like to be whitelisted. Been craving some classic minecraft for a while.
EDIT: Minecraft name is Fulsy
I'd like to vouch for the Whitelisting of x24mori . He doesn't have an FP account so he can't show for the preliminary requirements, but he's a competent builder who doesn't start trouble. I assure that if he does, my Whitelist status can pay for it alongside his.
Can the tree farm at spawn be taken down/moved? We need room for a project and it is taking up the best spot
The adjacent spot would be perfect for it
Sega is a cat person now.
hes already planning on getting two of them.
A couple people asked what I'm doing, so...

Some scary shit. It's high up, directly over a lava lake:

I've fallen twice already, but survived because of a potion.
It's going to be this. Think I've made a decent amount of progress today. I don't know when it's going to be done. I started it like a month ago but quit back then because it's so ridiculous.
I've always wondered, whats with those watermelons?
I saw them in the blaze grinder too.

When you push a slime block with a piston, any blocks touching the slime block also get pushed, unless it's a block that a piston can't push. Some other blocks like furnaces and obsidian work too but they're more expensive.

I think it's because mobs can't spawn on that block.
I think it's because mobs can't spawn on that block.
Nope, that's not why. It's what I said in my post above yours.
Build this contraption and pull the lever:

Then change the stone block to a melon and observe the difference.
It is just me or the server is pretty slow right now? I can't connect at all and the overviewer isn't working either.
It is just me or the server is pretty slow right now? I can't connect at all and the overviewer isn't working either.
Nope, seems down here as well.
Same with me
Whenever I try to join, I either get "Authentication servers are down", a generic timeout error, or an error saying I haven't been whitelisted yet.
Down for me as well. I was able to join for a few minutes but I think I fell out of the map because a chunk wasn't loaded. Uh-oh.
I've been using the downtime to devise an interesting redstone machine which I think hasn't been done on this server before. It will be part of a large sports arena project I'm planning for Vokzal/Pikzal.

This machine has a fire which burns indefinitely, unless rain puts it out. A block update detector senses the rain and changes the output (symbolized by the redstone lamp.) My hope is that I can use this to close the roof of a domed arena to keep the elements out. Each morning, as the sun rises, a daylight sensor induces a single pulse which triggers a dispenser which contains a flint and steel. If the weather is fair that morning, the fire will stay lit, causing the signal to change back and reopening the roof. If it is still raining, the fire will be put out quickly enough that the circuit won't be able to fully shut down, preventing a misfire of the mechanism and keeping the roof closed.
[editline]2nd November 2015[/editline]
It's just hit me that netherrack isn't put out by rain, so the machine doesn't work. I never picked up on it since I'm using a superflat desert for redstone experiments. I'll post again once I've devised something else.
OVH (and by extension their subsidiaries) are having a MASSIVE outage in Canada.

Seems to be working again. Just refreshed the map a few times, and it loaded in instantly.
I can't seem to join though. Still says I'm not whitelisted.
