I've been using the downtime to devise an interesting redstone machine which I think hasn't been done on this server before. It will be part of a large sports arena project I'm planning for Vokzal/Pikzal. This machine has a fire which burns indefinitely, unless rain puts it out. A block update detector senses the rain and changes the output (symbolized by the redstone lamp.) My hope is that I can use this to close the roof of a domed arena to keep the elements out. Each morning, as the sun rises, a daylight sensor induces a single pulse which triggers a dispenser which contains a flint and steel. If the weather is fair that morning, the fire will stay lit, causing the signal to change back and reopening the roof. If it is still raining, the fire will be put out quickly enough that the circuit won't be able to fully shut down, preventing a misfire of the mechanism and keeping the roof closed. [editline]2nd November 2015[/editline] It's just hit me that netherrack isn't put out by rain, so the machine doesn't work. I never picked up on it since I'm using a superflat desert for redstone experiments. I'll post again once I've devised something else.
Cauldrons can fill up with rain.
My canadian dedi's are offline so I can also confirm that OVH has been having issues
Cauldrons can fill up with rain.
There's no automatic way to empty cauldrons though. Also at this point I'm so pissed at the way redstone works in this game I'll probably just build a gimmick-free stadium.
Oh hey haven't been on in ages but flicked though this thread and saw stuff about city building. Just a reminder that if you need good lighting you can always get sea lantern materials from Squidmurder. That way you can spare some of the Glowstone in the nether for other things/special occasions.

Spawn is going to lose all of it's original character to just become part of the greater Vokzal city-scape.
Spawn is going to lose all of it's original character to just become part of the greater Vokzal city-scape.
Things change. Time goes on. If we kept every building built at spawn, we'd have urban sprawl from Wildeholt to Mallen-Tol.
I love it though. If we could find a way to document spawn's overviewer from day 1 til present it's the only city with an actual evolution starting from a clusterfuck of small buildings -> abandonment -> revitalization with city planning -> and today we can pretend that the big buildings are a result of the city's heritage and economic growth.
That's bad why?
Can't stop the future.

I can even just dump the pictures in a random folder once a week. A single high res shot of one view with a limited size is quite small, relatively speaking. I'm not hosting multiple copies of the full map render though. The disc space requirements would be utterly ridiculous. When I last checked, what currently exists is ~130Gigabytes, and that's after png compression. Just using
du -h --max-depth=1
to get the directory size takes nearly 20 minutes, and shits on performance while it's running. Even keeping quarterly renders would be hitting a TB inside of 18 months.
That's bad why?
Allow me to rephrase. What exactly was spawn's original character? I remember maybe a single street that was designed purposefully, surrounded by wooden shacks that were hastily thrown up to survive a few nights. We've actually started building there, using the area. I'd say that's an improvement.

I don't feel that having a grand entrance is exactly a good thing. I find spawn does, in fact, have character on its own. I feel that blatantly ugly structures/design choices should be removed, but decent houses and their streets preserved. Wildeholt was largely developed on-the-fly, but alas districts have been formed, and it retains a sort of organic charm to it. Most old towns actually have this, which is why people like them so much. Revamping Spawn is fine, but redesigning it is going too far.
Revamping Spawn is fine, but redesigning it is going too far.
I think it needs a redesign, but not all at once. At this point, it looks like we're going to restructure the roads, then another Purge, etc etc until it barely looks even remotely like original spawn
Again, what is the original spawn? Because a year ago, there was a single house in a forest. I'm convinced that "original" spawn as a concept is the product of flawed nostalgia.

:snip: I've been informed that all this was the result of a tragic accident involving Incoming and some creepers

Now that I've been made aware of it they have been restored. There was a framework for new construction going on at this location http://map.athousandpandas.club/#/-351/64/295/max/0/0 which has been reverted. Builder is redemolishing the bridge and build something in alignment with the trade center tower. A reminder to all that I don't mind you reworking stuff that hasn't been touched in ages. When in doubt, ask about it, or feel free to go trash up virgin forests or something. Stuff like this is pitifully easy to track down and rollback.
Any clue to who has been griefing?
Not a facepuncher.
Any idea who built the weird platform out of granite and wood next to my construction shack at spawn? I thought we all agreed that was going to be the location of the new spawn park. EDIT: And they stole my materials, even though the chest was marked with a sign that said not to steal. Woo.
And they stole my materials, even though the chest was marked with a sign that said not to steal.
Gosh, normally those signs are very effective at deterring thieves.
Gosh, normally those signs are very effective at deterring thieves.
Well I find people are pretty trust worthy on the server, though I spose 1 bad seed spoils the crop
I'm seeing this from the overviewer but I noticed some slight griefing at the floating lighthouse thing at spawn. Not sure if has always been like that though. But yeah it looks like someone tried to set it on fire.
yeah, my shit has been griefed :(
Remember, say something if you see something.
Gosh, normally those signs are very effective at deterring thieves.
It was that asshole that came on a few days ago, Foolsien or something. Generally, if something is marked, people aren't supposed to touch it. And that normally works.
It was that asshole that came on a few days ago, Foolsien or something. Generally, if something is marked, people aren't supposed to touch it. And that normally works.
To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if it was him who did all of the other shit
