Update on the wither skeleton farm. It's working, but at a very reduced efficiency.
How to get there. Go to my nether base at the mesa, walk out the door, turn right and take this minecart:

It's easy to use. Just go in the AFK booth and step on the pressure plate. Mobs will fall down the chute and everything except the skeletons (and an occasional 1x1 magma cube) will be crushed. Kill the wither skeletons with a Looting III sword.
It's not working at full capacity because I haven't finished mob-proofing the area around it. Still, I've managed to get 3 beacons with a relatively substantial investment of time. I've used it for maybe 8-12 hours, but I'm not sure. If you want to be adventurous and try the farm out right now, I'd recommend listening to some podcasts, youtube or something while you do it. That's what I've been doing.
There's probably no point in attempting to use it if you don't have a Looting III sword. I'll try to get some over there for public use but I don't have a lot of Looting books.

I found the correct configuration near my nether base but the way there is not marked. Hopefully you understand that if you want to use it, I want to make sure you are doing it the right way. (It's really close to my stuff...) So if you want to get a beacon, talk to me, I can show you the way there and we can spawn a wither.
There's an article on the wiki that suggests that you should use a 3x3 donut like this, but it's bad:

Don't use a donut. The wither will escape. I know this because I tried it and had to fight a wither the old-fashioned way. It was pretty shitty and I probably just got lucky in that nothing got damaged. The donut suggestion must be from an old version of the game, maybe where the wither did not explode after powering up.
Anyway, I'm going to keep working on the mob-proofing. It's just a really big job and there's no reason people can't use the farm right now if they don't mind grinding for awhile.

Anybody know who built the skeleton grinder at spawn originally? Or who maintains it? What I'd like to do is add a selector switch which redirects the flow towards a crusher, so that it can AFK farm bones and stuff.

That grinder is just about one of the oldest built things on the server. Built at a time when spawn was mostly the only place settled on the whole map.

That's kind of my impression. I don't really suppose anyone would mind if I modified it, but I figured I would ask anyways. I might put in a sorter and a few silos which would be a more major modification. I could find another spawner, but the location of the one we have is really good.
My aim is that if/when the iron farm is back up and running, I want to make a nice flower farm over in the flower forest.

There is actually another skeleton spawner in the vicinity of that spawner
Go out via overworld exit, and head over to the other side of the train station.

I think that's just the top of the drop. If you're talking about the protrusion with the signs on it, it's a water elevator and the drop. I haven't looked in to it closely, though. I'm hesitant to start tearing it apart unless I'm sure I'm gonna do the modification.
Unrelated: To cono, or whoever keeps changing the glowstone lighting at spawn, can you please stop. There are dark patches again. This is probably the 4th or 5th time I've fixed the lighting at spawn. I don't want creeper holes in my buildings, you don't want creeper holes in your buildings, so stop futzing with the lighting. Or do the mob proofing yourself. On top of that, every time these modifications happen some of the glowstone seems to habitually disappear. So I really don't appreciate my glowstone being appropriated for other stuff, along with my mob proofing being undone.
If it's cono, I'm pretty sure I already said that the upright lamps are not dense enough on their own. That's why I put torches down in between and put glowstone in the sides. I know I didn't explain it really thoroughly, but we talked about it.

I don't really mind telling them myself, but you can pass it along if you want. I'm just irritated because we talked about this. The new spawn area [i]does[/i] look really nice, but my lighting keeps getting torn up and replaced with patchy stuff, or removed altogether. Patchy glowstone is the worst, because then the glowstone gets blown up. It's my glowstone, I don't know where it's going and I don't want it blown up. Or anything else blown up, for that matter.
edit: And to be clear, changing the lighting would be [i]fine[/i] if there weren't dark patches everywhere.

I would say go for it, just be cautious to what you do with the equipment like the enchanting table there as whomever built the thing may still claim ownership of it despite it being a public use spawner.

No if you enter the hole next to it it will lead to a mineshaft and in it is an unused skeleton spawner and a spider spawner.

Just a suggestion, if you keep making these videos, I recommend using the Animations pack. It adds minute animations to some vanilla objects, such as fire on torches and swaying tree leaves. I just think it would help your videos look less dead.
