Any progress on the mage tower?
Hey Niblic is it ok if Wool and I borrow some of that Diorite/Granite/Andesite for roads in Spawn? It'd be a huge help
yea
Will the 'ground level' of the plateau be y=63 or y=64? I assumed there'd be a layer of dirt/grass over everything when it's all mined out. The spawn plaza is 63, but the desert area is 64.
Not sure, what would Fulsy prefer?
Any progress on the mage tower?
Haven't played all week due to stuff, should be able to get back to it beginning of next week.
Not sure, what would Fulsy prefer?
I'd say make it 64
Then 64 it is
I moved the plateau beacon to the eastern side and cleared out quite a bit from that end. I reckon there's 35-40 more double chests of material to go total (120-130k cubic metres).
We're making progress. Spawn's going to look great soon. EDIT: I did a quick materials study for a possible architecture style for the south spawn expansion. It's an interpretation of Palazzo style of skyscraper design, one of the first true American styles of architecture. This picture shows four elements: The heavy masonry foundation at street level, the window grid above, the massively inflated multi-tiered cornice, and the covered promenade at street level. Obviously this is a bit short to be a skyscraper, but in this style of design the base and window grid can be expanded as projects require. And, of course, materials can be changed depending on what we're building. This is just sort of a standard format. I'll do some materials studies for the other architectural styles we'll be using later. I feel like this style should be used primarily for low to medium-height buildings, 6-10 stories at most (30-50 blocks tall, or around 110 altitude), with a focus on width over height. Art Deco can be used for medium-height skyscrapers (60-100 blocks tall), with modernism being reserved for both extreme-low and extreme-high buildings. That is, of course, if we actually decide to care about period-realistic engineering ability.

In light of the coming blizzard, in the event that my power goes off I won't be on for awhile. Last time this happened PECO took weeks :suicide:
So I joined, punched a zombie pigman, and now I get instakilled by them every time I spawn. Please send help :v: [editline]22nd January 2016[/editline] Nevermind they stopped
Yeah... Don't do that.
No do it, it brings business to the overworld Railroad
yea pigmen should be aggro'd and have potion buffs on them at all times
Hey, I already PMed a few people about this, but now that Wool and I have roads up for South Spawn, we need buildings. If anyone wants to build anything, the main focus here is Art Deco with a bit of Modernism and Renaissance Rebirth thrown in to boot. No height limit, just somewhere preferably above 5 stories. Another idea Wool and I had was to have mini towns inside this South Spawn, similar to Chinatown and Little Italy in NYC (I know there's a word for those, but I forget it atm). So when we have developed closer to where we plan these to be, whoever wants their city/town/country represented, whether it be fictional, of the server, or real, can build it. Just don't make it too big, as we have to fit everyone.
That thing is so fugly I will personally demolish it with TNT :v:
Agreed. Although I do think something more like a Tokyo or Hong Kong-styled street would be kind of cool. I do like that claustrophobic feeling they have to them. Not sure about the signage, though, since excessive signs are essential to the aesthetic.
Claustrophobic, cluttered spaces can look pretty cool in Minecraft's blocky aesthetic.

finally got around to playing on the server, made a home in the middle of no where which was fun wish more people were on though it was quite lonely

So I am, in my spare time, building an old fashioned building in an empty lot in Spawn. I have no idea what to make it. I know what I want it to look like, but I have no idea what I want it to be. Any suggestions?
A new planning office? Never can have too many of those.
Why don't you guys build a utility or municipal building of some sort? A power plant, a hospital, a police station, a fire department, a DMV (oh god), sewer plant, public water system, a bank, or a city university? Unless they were designated outside of the thread, I'm lead to believe majority of the buildings in Spawn are sort of "pointless" - just generic office buildings or apartments. There's far more to a city than that.

Some of the buildings are nice and creatively built and all, but after a while putting up structure after structure that hasn't any real purpose (whether functional in MC or 'pretend' functional for a city) gets old and repetitive and will end up filling up Spawn with a maze of pointless structures. [editline]27th January 2016[/editline] If you guys have the time, you could try making a public water system, build a bunch of fountains everywhere and have them link to a central water-way hub beneath the city. Or create a hundred redstone lamps throughout the city and hook them all to one power station (will need a thousand repeaters) and hook that to a daylight sensor there.

Olenski tower in glushenko has a mob system and automated pumpkin farm to automatically restock its shops/dispensaries on the ground level. Given that people go to spawn often it wouldn't even need to be good rates, just something running in the background slowly restocking some shops/warehouses. Personally I like the idea of a working postal system, where people go into a post station, put stuff inside a chest and it gets taken to the recipients house; it would be expensive and damage performance though. Provided there aren't 100s of mobs, too many light updates or 100s of hoppers it shouldn't affect performance. Your redstone lamp powerstation idea reminds me of bdouble0's early building stuff. On a different angle you could make a walled off area and build it like an arena (the movie district 13 comes to mind) where people can fight, compete, play hide and seek, play find the x. Doesn't need to be useful or liveable to attract traffic. Maybe race horses through streets with traps and jumps or something. An Idea i had a while back was to use minecraft as a means of teaching people about stuff. The plan was to have an iron age village teaching people about the materials used, houses they lived in and the rules they followed. A more modern idea might be a smeltery where people are guided through a building with each room giving information about different steps of the process with a renamed item in a frame with a sign to tell people. Could also do the haber process or something to do with building. Useless but might be interesting for someone to walk around and read about.
I thought about, a few months ago, of building a theme park or Colosseum of sorts to do PvP and other things like archery contests, parkour, and other stuff. Most of the ideas came from Roosterteeth's MC let's plays and things to do but I never really did anything about it. Would be fun to play some of those LPs with you guys if we can rebuild some of the things they made.
