I actually took that down, I decided to save that project for later
I think someone was already building a New Canada, though I've only seen a sign post.
I didn't see any settlements on any of the snow biomes.
The snow biome west of spawn has scattered settlements, most to inactive users, but they're there. They're quite small so it's easy to find a nice sized snow area to build in.
There is the tower.
Well, first floor of it...
anyone know who owns the house here?

i want to claim the whole mushroom island but i dunno if that guy still goes on
build a glass dome around it and put sign posts saying QUARANTINE
I think it was agreed on a few months ago that no one should own "the whole mushroom island" since it's such a rare biome.
I still need to build a parks service information center out there.
Maybe after we get the government district in spawn done.
I think we need a Roman-styled city hall; Scorp, you wanna help us if we do one?
If I could find the time, I would, but it's unlikely. I haven't even been on to help out with the wizard's tower lately.

That is Karimatrix's work. He hasn't been on in ~4.5 months, and he didn't build much on the island.

There are two mooshroom islands that have been discovered. That one is very far away from spawn, and there's been only a handful of people that have even set foot on it, let alone done anything build related. People tend to stick within 2000 blocks of spawn, despite that being less than 10% of the available map.
It's probably fine.
I'm not saying he shouldn't build anything on the island, but it's probably best, being such a unique and rare biome that he doesn't claim all of it.

I'd like to be able to keep getting packed ice from there, its the only place to get it from.
Whats the plan with 1.9? If a server with that is going up then I won't need packed ice in 1.8
Current plan is to reset the end, (RIP Canadian Bill's farm), and update the server to 1.9. The changes to world generation are a couple of structures that are insignificant, and various other minor tweaks like beetroots showing up in villages. We will not update to 1.9 immediately. I will do some testing and plugin compatibility verification, and then update after a stable 1.9 spigot build becomes available.
If people are dying to try 1.9 together right now I can throw up a test server easily enough, just be advised that there will be no map, and the world will simply be deleted a few weeks from now.

Do you have to reset the end? From what I understand (through reading/watching videos) is that you can spawn the dragon multiple times, and each time it is defeated a portal to the 'outer islands' is generated (which is where the new end related stuff is).
I might be wrong - and haven't researched it thoroughly, but it seems a shame to reset the end if it's not necessary.
From the Minecraft Wiki (http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/The_End):
[sp]...the dragon can be respawned an unlimited number of times by placing four ender crystals upon the exit portal.
The player will also have the ability to enter one of the several End gateway portals that spawn each time the dragon is defeated. These gateways can only be entered through the use of ender pearls. They will teleport the player to the outer End islands, which generate infinitely among a forest of Chorus trees. One may find End cities on these islands, which hold extremely valuable loot.[/sp]
Now that sounds badass

Somebody go in and clean it out, there's some expensive stuff out there
You could clean it out, but it's almost entirely blocks that are easy to come by. only thing out there that's worth anything that I can think of is the beacons, and they are pretty cheap too.
Dibs on the beacons
Dont you need to kill wither everytime you want a beacon?
since 1.9 makes fights harder it's probably wise to stock up on wither stars now
There's so many ways to just glitch kill the wither it's impossible to fix them all.

The wizard's tower is where the packed ice is, knock yourself out.

I only managed to find sticking him in bedrock (idk if that still works) and automatic cobble crusher which takes like 20 minutes
So this is what I've been working on lately:

My freshman-year college roommate and I decided to start a youtube channel, since no one else is doing it. We'll go on neat tours as well as review stuff and play some games, totally original.
I was just curious as to what you guys thought. Also, I know its crap. VerbatimB and I have the collective skill of a 2nd grade class when it comes to editing, shooting, and planning videos.

Wrong thread?
I won't say your video's terribly interesting, but I think you've got the right sort of ideas, and a decent enough personality to do this sort of thing.
I probably would have gone at this from the "a day behind the scenes" angle, showing a very condensed look into the work that goes into the game store. I would have some shots of customers in the store, people buying things, a short tour of the warehouse, maybe some things that were going on there... Really focus more on the scenery, and less on the "first-person tour" thing.
On top of that, I'd do a full scripted narration, fill pauses with ambient audio, and try to tell a story. What was the goal of going to the warehouse, and what did you discover? You could record that in post, so you don't get all the annoying camera sounds.
You've got a solid premise, I think the biggest problems are the lack of an angle and editing. And I'm still trying to understand angle myself, after three years as a journalism major. You just need to find a reason for the video to exist, something to make it compelling, even if it's just a warehouse tour.
Oh, and you've got twelve minutes of footage. The sweet spot for a YouTube video, or a short A&C video like this, is about three to five minutes. Cut it down as much as you can, only show the absolute best. You want to ideally throw away 70-80% of your total shot footage, because you can make up for it in narration.
I didn't expect you to know all that, of course. I've taken two multimedia journalism classes and two photojournalism classes, and I can still barely make good segments, but I have a general idea of how these things come together now. I guarantee you you could recut this footage and make a really solid video out of it.
Oh, some quick editing tips. You don't need a fancy intro card, or a fancy graphic (although it helps), or any sort of title card for most things. If you want some kind of logo or wordmark, though, keep it to a five-second shot at the start or end of your video. It helps to just launch straight into the introduction ("Hello, Procrastinators!" or "Hey I'm grump, I'm not so grump..." You get the idea.), and stick a logo card on the end of the video. Also, quick cuts, no transitions.
Okay, I'm done. Have a shameless plug for the YouTube channel of a newspaper I may or may not be able to tell you I work for. But it's not Minecraft related. It's off topic.
Well, yes...
I think that discounts the community we have here, though. I like to think of this place more as a discussion thread for the server's community than a strictly Minecraft-focused thread. Not to say we shouldn't discuss Minecraft, but it isn't the worst to discuss other things as well.
I'd say this thread is just an extension of the in-game chat. We're a group of people with a relatively tight-knit community who talk about things while playing Minecraft.
And it's not like we're hurting for pages anyway, are we?
It's probably more appropriate to start its own thread then leave a link to it in a post here.
That's probably not a bad idea.
