https://i.imgur.com/wg3VDFg.png That looks underground to me. Is that the edge of trapdoors I see? If so, guess I missed that. Squids don't matter. They are their own mobcap. Well they technically matter because of entity lag, but their cap is really low so it's one of those "eh fuck it" problems. As to the lighting, I'm assuming you know you can bypass a lot of the issues with poor lighting by just having a glass/fence/trapdoor/whatever platform above the farm since mobs despawn instantly if they are more than 128 blocks away*. As long as you are in range of the farm, you only need to light up a small portion of a sphere around the player instead of essentially a cylinder with a radius of 128. Probably doesn't matter too much if you aren't planning on building that much with slime blocks. Dunno. I like slime blocks for scaffolding because they break instantly with any/no tool, but you can generally recover most of those, so it's hard to quantify how much effort it's worth putting into refining a farm like that. *Technically it's better in terms of server performance if you clear cut an entire perimeter, because even mobs that are instantly removed still impact performance. However, unless you are going for super farms, or have way too many players on a server, that doesn't matter. Just make sure you kill all the animals, cause the entity lag from them is awful. I'd probably go much smaller scale with an iron farm today, or have it outside the spawn and configured to use a chunk loader, cause the 200+ villagers I had probably added 5-10ms per tick, which wasn't enough to lag the server by themselves, but meant that we had a lot of issues with things like people's animal farms that realistically shouldn't have caused as many problems as they did.
Those are trapdoors you see, yes. I was very careful to place trapdoors over both chunks and nowhere else, 'cause that crud's expensive. While we're on the subject, do we need to spend a bunch of time standing around in each of the two chunks to max out large slime spawns? And if so, how much? I understand that the size of spawned slimes depends at least in part on regional difficulty, and how long players have spent in the chunks themselves, but the ins and outs of regional difficulty itself that elude my understanding.
Just wanna say im always down for a short survival server with some kind of fun quirk, like island-punch, or skyblocks or flatgrass presets.
@chipsnapper By the way, lightning struck your house and fucked up your roof a bit.
You need 50(???) accumulated hours of playtime in each chunk to maximize the local difficulty. Multiple players count as I recall, so 5 people could do it in 10 each chunk. Something that I had considered doing was creating a skyblock world. You would spawn in a hub and have the option of creating your own skyblock, or being invited to someone's existing one. OK, that's been done before... so what? One of the 'cool' things that my vanilla server offered was the map. Most people use dynmap, and it's just not the same. Overviewer lets you define limits for each render, so it would be possible to give each player a unique map that you could select on the dropdown. All you'd need is to have your skyblock plugin dump some parseable information about the player and their coordinates, then have a basic script assemble that information into an overviewer config file. My problem with this was a) I'd have to do a lot of custom coding just to make it work, and b)skyblock tends to lose it's appeal fairly fast. Once you get a moderately sized platform it's just grinding things out. Yeah, you can do some inventive stuff like killing pigmen to get gold for golden apples and then convert a couple of villagers and do some trading to get full diamond enchanted gear, but that's not the 'hard' stuff. The hard stuff is sitting there waiting for 5 years for trees to grow so you can make charcoal and smelt your cobble into blocks that don't look like garbage.
It's up to you if you think it's worth it. I think it would be cool if people start connecting their skyblocks into a larger society, because the limited supplies would make trading a more important part of surviving.
That actually sounds kinda neat, I'd give it a go, if enough people are interested.
Speaking of alternative maps to try out, have you guys heard of SkyMine? https://imgur.com/a/G95Sz
The reason I had a second server up was exactly for short lived gamemodes and gimmicks. But yeah, it's gotta be something interesting. The islands map we had lasted a week before it went totally dead. One reason I want to bring MNR back is because of how popular it is.
Any one of these ideas are fine to me as long as it somehow keeps the players together. What i liked about Island-punch was how you were never far away from the other players. Multiplayer on a normally generated map gets kinda lonely when everyone spreads out. I'd rather fight about space then get all the room i need.
Currently, our normal Vanilla server is far from lonely. I’ve considtently seen at least one other person on like at all times (excluding this week since I’ve been away)
Could I get a whitelist? I might hop on every now and then. I kinda miss playing minecraft. IGN is same as my username.
"Multiplayer on a normally generated map gets kinda lonely when everyone spreads out." That thankfully isn't the case on this map. Lots of collaborative projects and communities going on. There's always gonna be people who build far away, but that's their choice and there's nothing really wrong with that. Also, I am back from my trip. It was terrible.
Might be cool to dick around for a bit one one of the 'corrupted' seeds. There are some seeds that lead to infinitely teselating caverns, and some settings that lead to bizarre geometric patterns. Long term I don't see them being really fun to play on, but it's interesting for a while.
Also back from my trip. Western Virginia really sucks.
revert that if you can please
@Zephyrs, I feel as if you'd be helpful here. Our Mansion chunks got corrupted, and Wuvs (the other admin) was telling me that there's a way to use command blocks to spawn it in. Would you know the specific commands, or somewhere I could read further?
If Zephyrs has the original map and anyone is willing to throw that up as a second server I will be eternally grateful, and I think others will be too

Can i request to join my mc name is rtm516 and uuid cb7a4c0c-a7cd-4846-8b6f-477de8f5f3ee
You are talking about a naturally generating mansion right? MCedit can regenerate chunks. It will be reset to the default state. If you are talking about something you built, you'll need some form of archive to recover it. I still have the world files, however, the terrain generation in the oceans is changing with 1.13 update, so if I hosted a server again it would probably involve a map reset. That being said, there's nothing that says I can't throw that up as a separate view only server. Just remove most of the entities, disable mob AI, and default the gamemode to spectator. It's pretty easy to tie things together with bungeecoord so you have cross server chat, and swapping between worlds only takes a chat command.
Yes, I was talking about the former. I’ll push the MCE idea along to Wuvs.
will things such as user inventory/minecarts/chests still function? if so let's do it
Well I was thinking of making it more of a museum with spectator mode. I guess I could enable creative as well and just fully disable block placement if people wanted to ride the tracks instead of just flying around at mach 17.
Oh man, it's been awhile since I played Minecraft I kinda want to join this, as I been meaning to participate in a Game In Process thing, but I don't know if I meet the requirements and I'm kinda new to this in general. My IGN is TheStarBot, and sorry if I missed up or didn't meet the requirements
Actually, making the facepunch cathedral a hub between servers would be a good use as well.
Mind if I get a whitelist? I know I don't have 100 posts but I've been around for awhile, mostly in the GMod section helping people with LUA. IGN: Mrinfinity
For some reason, I can't connect to the severs anymore
I think it is/was down.
Currently down for maintenance, will bring back up as soon as I can.
