Uh oh! It's the fuzz!
Frosty ascended to the top of the canyon and landed his starfighter there. He popped open his cockpit and remained there.
Soon after Frosty had landed the SISP craft, a civilian transport shuttle modified for police use, landed with its nosegun aimed at Frosty's craft.
Sol Inter-System Police was written across the hull in white bold letters which contrasted towards the otherwise grey surface of the ship.
The canopy door opened and a pair of officers stepped out.
Both officers donned the standard SISP uniform with a protective vest over their shirts. At their hips a holstered pistol and a baton dangled next to several smaller utility pouches.
The vest had several flexi-cuffs strapped right above their left hip. Smaller pouches containing pistol magazines and a smaller medkit occupied most of the vest front with a SISP badge at the top next to a rectangular area with the text "POLICE" in white.
Sleek sunglasses obscured their eyes, making it hard to see where their attention was.
As one of the officers began his visual inspection of Frosty's craft the other one used the cockpit ladder to climb up five steps. With his legs still on the step and with one hand on the gun, the officer was now at the same height as Frosty.
"Good day sir, do you have any idea how fast you were flying back there?"
Frosty greeted the officers with a warm smile, although he was slightly nervous.
"Too fast, I assume?"
He checked his speedometer. He had been going at 550 MPH. Hopefully this wasn't fast enough for a speeding ticket or whatever, as it was normal cruising speed.
The officer nodded. "That's correct, sir. We measured you at 550 MPH which is far too fast here in the ice caps. We have a speed restriction of 250 due to the engine vibrations causing microfractures in the ice."
He gestured towards a nearby ice cliff. "The locals aren't too fond when their landroads are covered in several tons of ice."
"You got any ID on you? Ship registration?"
"Oh, I deeply apologize for the inconvenience."
Frosty reached inside his shirt pocket and pulled out the ID card that had been given to him when the SDF searched and questioned him at the border of Sol.
"Will this suffice, officer?"
The officer grunted and grabbed the ID card. He produced a small device from one of his utility pouches which he used to swipe the card. A light became green and a fresh picture of Frosty was visible on the display with a footnote from the SDF navy that the fighter was registered to the Terika-Belladonna Company which were licenses to work in Sol.
Satisfied with the result, the officer smiled and nodded. "Alright then Frosty, your ID checks out. You're more than welcome to continue flying as long as you stay within our limits. Also, there's been sightings of a group of pirates nearby who're hiding out in the southern ice caps. I advise you stay away from there as they nearly shot down a civilian shuttle last week."
He handed back the ID. "I hope you have a pleasant stay here at Mars. If you're planning on seeing some tourist hotspots I can recommend visiting our capital of Krása or the Valley of Heroes. Stay safe."
With that said he climbed off the ship and returned to the SISP ship with his colleague.
"Thank you, officer!"
Frosty waved them goodbye as his cockpit slowly began to close.
Pirates? Perhaps he ought to tell Valkyrie about this to see if they're her friends or a rival group. The Valley of Heroes does sound like an interesting location, though. He ought to check that out whenever he has the time, perhaps now even if it's not too far away.
He opened comms.
"Say, does anyone know how far the Valley of Heroes is from the port? I would like to visit it, if it's close."
Vakarus opened up the comms. "Frozen-one, the location you seek is far to the south at the center of this world. Should you maintain an even pace you'll reach it without much trouble for sure."
Hariim finishes his last few rounds of practice. He clears and locks his weapon, and stows it. He regards the new arrival for a moment before walking over and offering his hand to shake. "Hariim M'baal. Tech Specialist and Operations Control. Former Corporal, SDF Marine Corp. Nice scar you got there on your noggin. You a headshot survivor too?" Hariim's obvious cybernetic eye glows a friendly green, its advanced optics and analytical systems pouring over Johanne's head.
((Johannes is wearing his helmet ATM))
Johannes nods at Neasha understandably before introducing himself in turn to Hariim and Maddox. "Yeah. Cryosleep." He hefts his duffel bag as Maddox asks about his need of his armory. "The Captain's orders were for me to store my arms and munitions in your armory, so I'm here to do that, and see if you'd be able to improve on them at all. Is there a check in process or something?"
Maddox nodded and brought up a open-top storage container. With some scribbly writing he added the name Johannes to the nametag.
"Put it here untill I've cleared a locker for you. If you want me to imrpove one of your weapons point it out and I'll let you know when I'm done with it."
He pointed to the range. "Range is open 24/7. Safety should always be on if you're not in the marked area. No waving around."
Frosty began to ascend higher and higher until the port was about as small as an ant. He wouldn't have to worry about the speed limit if he's so high above the ice caps that he could see the stars.
He proceeded to head south to the location of the Valley of Heroes, and opened up comms once more.
"This is Frosty. I'm headed over to the Valley of Heroes to see if maybe I can find something about my past there. If I am needed, please notify me and I will divert course back to the port."
Johannes nods and sets his duffel on the ground, opening it up and pulling out a few firearms. The first is a smaller pistol, obviously for carrying concealed while in civilian clothes appearing to be chambered in a larger caliber, something at or above .50, with a few odd looking tubes and a bulbous attachment on the receiver. The second is a large frame heavily modified revolver with a long cylinder that appears to only hold 4 rounds and a 12" long barrel. On the side of the barrel it reads "Vermaak .45-70 Peacemaker". It had a small scope on top of the receiver and another of the bulbous looking additions to the barrel just in front of where the cylinder gap is. Both of these he gingerly puts into the storage container, as well as 10 or so boxes each of ammo that say ".45-70 Govt 520gr Plasma Tip" and ".50 AE 400gr Plasma Tip". Lastly, he pulls out what appears to be a shotgun with a wooden pistol grip and no stock, an 18" barrel, a heatsink along the entire top and sides of the barrel, and a holographic sight on top of the receiver, with a much larger version of the bulbous attachment on the left side of the receiver with small tubes running to ports along the bottom of the barrel. This one, Johannes checks to clear, shows Maddox the empty chamber, and hands it to him making sure not to sweep anyone. "This is my primary weapon. 4 gauge semiautomatic, Quad-buck or slug depending on situation. This module..." He taps a finger against the bulbous module on the left side "Surrounds the shot or slug with a ball of plasma when fired. The slugs are custom, I only have 12 more so if you can make more that would be great. They were 2oz rifled lead slugs with an explosive core that would detonate a few seconds after embedding in the target. The plasma generator has been acting up, the temperatures are fluctuating and sometimes almost go low enough for the plasma to not even form correctly and it just ends up shooting a gout of fire. I need you to fix that if you can. That, or, I've been considering switching it to a railgun acceleration instead of black powder."
Maddox nodded. "I'll take care of it."
((I spent a lot of time typing that on my phone you dick lmao))
"Great thanks. Here's some of the slugs too, so you have something to work off of." Johannes hands him a larger box out of his duffel that says "4GA 3.5" Magnum Slug, 2oz"
"Well, lets get you settled into a room." said Taylor, glancing between the two of them. She motioned for Johannes to follow, heading out of the armory. "Crew Quarters is this way."
....
Valkyrie strolled alongside the Cerberus drone she had purchased, controlling it with the remote that she had been given. The ammo crates would be delivered to the ship, and her new cutlass swung from her hip. She pondered getting a coat and hat to complete the Pirate getup, but chuckled at the thought. Its too cheesy. Stereotypical of a space pirate. Plus those old pirate hats look kind of funny. What were they thinking?
After finally finding an available spot in the parking hangar, Frosty disembarked and entered the Valley.
The area had a very somber atmosphere around it. It was a holy shrine dedicated to those who in the face of overwhelming odds gave their own lives to ensure the safety and protection of the lives of others. For some, this was also a resting place for their loved ones, with statues and monuments showing them at the highest peak of discipline, bravery, and valor, and also serving as a display to other races what it truly means to be human.
As he walked around in awe, he tried to find a specific symbol on any of the statues and monuments around him. The symbol he was looking for was the same one that was faded on a panel on his starfighter. The six pointed star with a snake coiled around it. At least, that's what he thought it was, as it was too faded to tell otherwise. Still, he had the idea he was a soldier of some sort, and since he was something that sort-of resembled a human, he may as well start looking for answers here.
Alex was deep into the latest dish for the crew. The fact that they were on Mars meant that he could resuply on food and ingedients from Tera. Although techincally not from Terra, the Giga shrimp were flown in to be grown in the planet's oceans since they seem to reproduce at a higher rate there. The main chalenge anywone would face however was killing the things, since in order to cook them properly, they had to be fresh as possible. "Come here, you little fuck!" He said as the shrimp was attempting to escape back into the water bucket. He sank the kitchen knife into it and pinned it in one place. "So close, but nah, in the pot you go." Before he continued, he recieved a message from Amy.
Got a surprise for you. Meet me in the 'dojo' later. You're gonna love this.
What now?
---
Amy walked slowly back with the ship in order to keep close to Valk and Bucky. There was no need to rush. The ammo and other supplies were going to be delivered later and the mark up for the crates was going to take some time. Plus the little surpise she had planned for her brother and the little something else for Maddox. She wondered what the gunsmith's reaction would be when he sees the blueprint.
As Frosty wandered between the many hundreds of statues dedicated to each and every individual soldier who had laid down their lives in service of the SDF, a hooded man in red robes slowly approached him.
With his face obscured by a mask which had a thin slit visor. He bowed his head and gestured with his hands towards the statues.
"Greetings child, are you searching for a fallen comrade?`"
Frosty was startled by the man.
"Oh, me? I am looking for something else. A symbol of sorts. It's a long story, but if you can spare a moment, I can explain."
Ahaz stops smoking the e cig for now and decides to check the bar's inventory. He'd been gone for a long time and it was going to be his ass on the line if someone stole anything expensive. He gets up and finds the tablet with the inventory checklist on it and starts counting off the bottles.
Valkyrie and the others finally arrived back at the ship a few minutes later, Valkyrie walking the drone aboard and letting it sit in the cargo bay. She shut it down, and set the remote next to it on a crate. She opts to get a drink afterwards, wandering into the mess and to the bar area. Noticing Ahaz behind the bar, she gets situated on a bar stool. "How's the booze business, bartender?" she asked, leaning forwards and propping on her arms on the bar.
Frosty was startled by the man.
"Oh, me? I am looking for something else. A symbol of sorts. It's a long story, but if you can spare a moment, I can explain."
The man bowed. "Of course child, I will help you to the best of my abilities. The Mars Caretaker Order doesn't turn down those who seek answers within the Valley of Heroes."
Bucky wastes no time in stashing her new clothes and turning on her game console. She leaves the door to her quarters open, through which the glorious sounds of Voidborne VI flow freely.

Hariim makes his way back up onto the bridge where he begins his usual daily duties.
"Honestly, I have no idea. I haven't been lucid for very long." Ahaz pours Valkyrie a bourbon and slides it to her. "I noticed that some expensive bottles were missing though. That isn't going to end up well for me. What's new with you?"
"I will try to shorten my story as much as I can as to not waste your time. To sum it up, I do not know who I am. I do not know what I am, either. I may look human..."
Frosty opened his mouth to reveal the black inside of his mouth along with his malformed teeth.
"...but not quite. I was found frozen by my friends in a starfighter, but I woke with no memory of my past. All I know of myself is I was frozen for a very long time, I am some form of human, I was part of some human military judging by the uniform of which I wear before you, and this symbol I found printed on my starfighter."
Frosty took out a drawing he made of the symbol.
"My colleagues and I suspect it was the symbol of some special Sol task force or something related to the matter. So here I am looking for answers."
"I noticed that some expensive bottles were missing though. That isn't going to end up well for me. What's new with you?"
"Not much. Got a new drone in the cargo bay. Got a cutlass too." Valkyrie replied, patting the sword on her hip. She swished the burbon around in the glass a bit, then drank some. "Taylor got one of your bottles of Vodka. I think I saw Harrim with a bottle of gin or somethin'."
Ahaz sighed. "We seem to be taking on crew members all the time now. Who's Harrim?"
"We seem to be taking on crew members all the time now. Who's Harrim?"
"Ex-Marine. Got cybernetics in his skull. Good with security systems, cameras, electronic shit." she explained, before glancing back to see Taylor leading the other new guy out of the armory. "That's another new guy. Johannes or somethin'. Also an ex-Marine." she said, pointing over her shoulder.
"Do we have anyone on the ship who isn't specially trained to kill anyone?"
"Do we have anyone on the ship who isn't specially trained to kill anyone?"
"Bucky, Amelia, Owen, you." said Valkyrie bluntly, before drinking more of her drink. "Bucky's learning how. You should too, before someone decides to plant a bullet in your brain."
