"Nonsence. Here, have this one." Amy picked one of the lighter swords and handed it to Amelia. "Grab it by the hilt and try a stance similar to a video game character you like."
And as fine and courageous as this art is it has been rendered almost obsolete a long time ago by distance weapons
"True. That never stopped the Creed however. Nor did it stop our father from teaching us how to use a sword and mace. Even if we didn't want to."
"Whoever loses buys me a pretty pink dress and a cocktail in a fancy bar. You two set your terms while I get us set up." Bucky starts setting up the race on the fairest map, with the most fun settings. Jovian System, with all power-ups and maximum boosters. The most glorious smorgasbord of fast-paced digital insanity to grace the screens and holos of video gamers in all the centuries the hobby has existed.
"Nonsence. Here, have this one." Amy picked one of the lighter swords and handed it to Amelia. "Grab it by the hilt and try a stance similar to a video game character you like."
She thinks to herself... 'Well, he is in a video game. Might as well give it a shot.' Amelia strikes a pose "How's this?" she puffs her cheast, extending the training sword as far as she could stretch her right arm. [editline]21st May 2016[/editline]
"It is good to see that some people still appreciate the fine art of fencing." It was Yuga who had just entered the Muramasa from outside, still in her heavy coat. "And as fine and courageous as this art is it has been rendered almost obsolete a long time ago by distance weapons." Yuga informed Amy and Amelia as she walked up to them.
Amelia makes an :ok: gesture with her left hand.
"That is...something. I admit, I haven't seen that stance before. Any opinions, captain?"
Owen walked down the hall towards the mess, but was interrupted by the sounds of engines revving, a voice yelling out, "CHOOSE YOUR VEHICLE!" and it was enough for his curiosity to get the better of him. Owen asked the group, "What are you guys playing?"
Valkyrie glanced up from where she was sitting on Bucky's bed, her back against the wall as her legs were folded in front of her. "F-Max: The Game. Wanna join?" she asked, pointing for the spare fourth remote nearby.
"Whoever loses buys me a pretty pink dress and a cocktail in a fancy bar. You two set your terms while I get us set up."
"Hmm...if I win, you gotta do the same for me. Without the pink dress." she said. She had never worn a dress in her life.
Owen answered, "Sure, I'll race with you guys." As he picked up his controller he noted, "Seems a bit odd without a wheel though, but whatever. It'll be nice to just race for once without some kind of mission on the line." As he selected his driver, Owen noted that he wasn't in the game. "I think I'll pick Jeb, basically my team, I guess." ((I think F-Max was the series that Owen raced, not sure if that was the original intention, but I can always edit if need be.))
János rubbed his chin, as he tried to think of his terms. He was fine with buying either of them cocktails if he lost, but he wasn't sure about buying Bucky a pretty pink dress. He wouldn't know where to start with that. Owen apparently heard the noise of the game through Bucky's door and was gonna join in too. He wasn't sure about letting Owen join in, but Bucky wanted help in beating Val's ass in the game. Eventually, he thought of something; "If I win, you guys have to face me in the ultimate challenge..... pinball!" he said in the most serious tone, "I may not remember many things about my past life, but I remember being the best at the pinball machine at my work place."
Hariim's set of cybernetics makes redirecting Johanne's musical retort easy. Not that it ever reached its intended target of Hariim's brain anyways. Hariim takes some creative license with the music, and remixes it into some modern mega-tronic creation. "Sorry, your old tech is easy for my chrome to dig into. Just reflexes at this point." He says, easily making the changes while he does so. At the same time he digs through the memory and tactical systems of Johanne's helmet. "Interesting logs you got in here by the way. You a borg like me?" ----------------------------------------------------------- Bucky hops up off her bunk and greets Valkyrie. She's dressed in a nice set of her new matte black PT clothes. "Sup, Valk?"
Johannes grunts and turns off the comm-link's access to the system, thereby cutting Hariim out of his tacnet. "No." He says, manually keying the mic. "Not entirely... Just come to my berth if you're so damn curious, don't invade my privacy without asking like some sort of virus."
Bucky pulls her fourth and final controller out and tosses it at Owen. "Dibs on Haraldo De Turbonez!" She says, claiming the most well-rounded racer for herself. It's her favorite, playing very nicely to her mixed style of racing. --------------------------------------------- Hariim shrugs to himself, and just sets up a secondary connection to Johanne's helmet using his advanced cyberware without telling the other man. "Righty-o. If you wanna share a drink just gimme a holler. I don't really bite that much, at least not IRL."
"I can't metabolize alcohol. Could you quit fucking with my helmet? I can see the secondary connection you just established. Just because it's over a hundred and fifty years old doesn't mean it's useless." Johannes grumbles and goes into his room to start sorting shit out. "And did you set up my commlink's permissions?"

I just said a few moments ago that I did." Hariim replies, probing away at the archaic electronic architecture of Johanne's helmet with tenacious curiosity. "Just how is this old thing still working? I swear, there should be no way our systems are as compatible as they are. 150 years of software and hardware development makes for so many differences in functionality."
"Fuck if I know. I just plugged the comm-link into the port on the helmet. I guess the connectors are still the same. Where are you on the ship? I'm going to come shove this 'archaic' thing up your ass." Johannes begins taking off his armor and setting it aside. He powers down the helmet and the rest of the suit and sticks the commlink in his ear. Hariim should now be cut off from his helmet. He puts his civilian clothes on and starts unpacking his duffel. A banner for the Netherlands National Football Team goes up on the wall first, then a hologlobe that displays the Sol system in a real time orbital model which goes on the dresser. A few clothes go in the dresser, and a regular picture frame with a picture of what appears to be a young Johannes, a slightly younger blonde woman that looks fairly similar to Johannes, and presumably his mother and father.
Ahaz wakes up and goes to man the bar. He felt a bit empty inside for some reason and seeing as there was no one around, he cradled his head in his arms.
Yuga put one hand behind her back hand used the other to gently grip the hilt of her sword. She inspected Amelias stance, and then looked from Amy and back to Amelia before pulling out her own sword. She began moving it slowly as if she was fencing with it and gently touched Amelia in various spots. "It certainly comes from one of your entertainment games. You're open for easy attacks here, here, here and here." she explained before putting her sword back into it's scabbard. "But you are a beginner at this so it's not expected of you to know such things." She turned to Amy "Do you intend to teach her?"
Do you intend to teach her?
"If she want to learn, yes." Amy looked at Amilia with a friendly smile. "Although, Alex may be a better teacher than me. He was trained by a Knight commander, while mine was from a regular trainer."
Taylor and Alex sized each other up for a bit, before each gave the other a quick nod to signal the beginning of the first round. Sparring Rules: Each player will roll a D10. The higher roll takes the round. A round is counted when a fighter is either knocked down by a standing maneuver (such as a sweep kick or standing throw) or via tapping out after a grapple brings both fighters to the ground. Five rounds will be played, with the victor being the one with the most won rounds. If either character rolls consecutive 1s, that character will lose immediately in an embarrassing fashion. Round 1: Alex: 3 Taylor: 10 Alex, being a cage fighter, was more used to standing maneuvers in the opening stages of a fight. Or maybe, he simply wasn't prepared for the speed of Taylor's assault. She, on the other hand, was more familiar with quick take-downs and other military maneuvers. Within a few seconds of the round beginning, Alex failed to grapple Taylor, was grappled himself, and ended up dropped onto his back with Taylor restraining him. He tried to spring loose, but Taylor quickly shifted grips and gained control of his arm. Alex, sensing the severity of his disadvantage, tapped out. Round 2: Alex: 10 Taylor: 6 This time, with no illusions, Alex thwarted Taylor's initial movements while closing in, blocking a few quick jabs in the process before knocking her off balance with a sudden blow to the body, followed up with a stylish flying clothesline that practically came out of nowhere. Taylor landed on her back while Alex landed about a meter further on in a sitting position. They counted it as a standing maneuver, winning Alex the round. Round 3: Alex: 1 Taylor: 8 Taylor, entering the round more cautiously this time, watches Alex's feet. The latter unknowingly telegraphs an attempted rising knee, which Taylor quickly gains control of and uses as leverage to flip the seasoned fighter onto his back. Annoyed with himself, Alex slapped the ground as he rose to his feet for the next round. Round 4: Alex: 3 Taylor: 9 Alex hid the fact that his previous landing had partially knocked the wind out of him. He blocked a few of Taylor's jabs and even an impressive attempted sweep kick before launching his own set of jabs. Taylor avoided several, but was eventually popped once in the face. Shrugging it off with minor frustration, she threw a hook which caught Alex in the ribs before straight on tackling him into a grapple. They briefly rolled on the ground before Alex turned the position around, gaining leverage on Taylor's arm. Rather than tapping out, Taylor got an elbow loose and caught Alex in the section of ribs as the earlier punch. He released her, and she quickly took him out with an impressive 180 degree spin into an axe kick, which landed on Alex's shoulder while he was still crouching and brought him back to the ground. Alex laughed, genuinely impressed by the maneuver. Round 5: Alex: 8 Taylor: 7 In their best and longest round, each fighter landed a number of punches and kicks on each other, all of which were slightly pulled in order to avoid seriously harming each other. Finally, Taylor attempted to topple Alex with a sudden full-body slam into Alex's center of mass. The latter, however, planted his feet in the proper way to receive the blow and surprised Taylor by getting his arms around her waist while she was still bent forward. He lifted and pulled her in, sending Taylor's legs skyward as he brought her into a classic pile driver position and then dropped... onto his knee. Taylor's head thumped the ground mercifully gently, and once released she acknowledged that the round belonged to Alex. Overall, however... Winner: Taylor --- "We will give you the details upon our return, Yuga," Yanim spoke, jovially. "At the moment, we're still hashing them out. The short of it is that we're going to the east to recover some important technological devices on behalf of Argos. Our contact, Red, insists we pick a side in the coming war, as it will make the operation much easier. This is a decision that I will leave to you... I know that our racial biases dictate hostility toward the sanghvi, but I advise you to remember the animosity between our organization and Collective State Security. If we fight alongside the kanads, it could prove to be far more difficult." Yanim, having finished sending word of the contract to Yuga, then rejoined the conversation with Rask and Red.
"Heh, I'm the last man standing at least." Alex said as he helped Taylor get back up on her feet.
"Heh, I'm the last man standing at least."
"Hah, yeah." she chuckled. She shook it off. "Got three out of five, though. Doesn't matter really all that much, but still. Nice clothesline, by the way." she continued. She straightened up, taking a breath as she placed her hands on her hips. "Surprised you didn't throw some kind of powerbomb or somethin' in there."
"You said no hard stuff. Besides, wouldn't want to risk paralising the first mate."
[Heading to bed. kilerabv's got control of Taylor, and blorgyboy's got control of Valkyrie.]
Yuga went to her room and changed out of the heavy coat into her usual one and headed to the bridge. She opened the galactic map on the holotable and zoomed in on the eastern quadrant. she leaned onto the table and looked over the planets and colonies on the triple border of the Empire, the Collective and the Mantle. Yuga reasoned that the company itself was not wanted and only Yanim and Rask were sought after, they could keep a low profile whilst the crew worked with collective forces. This would have many benefits. The Black fleet and the other forces had more knowledge of the planets and probably had logistics all set up which would make their mission a lot easier. It would also put the company in good standing with the collective, something they could use as leverage in a negotiation to get Rask and Yanim off the wanted list which would make the company's life much easier. However, the collective could afford to choose their assistance whilst the Mantle could not. Desperate for any sympathizers as they were they would take in the crew without asking too many questions. It would also give the Mantle a good start and make the Collective work for a victory, which in turn would trickle down into the Ayr weapons and ship manufacturers pockets, once again feeding the empire on someone else's bickering. However, Yuga herself didn't enjoy the prospect of working with the Sanghvi one bit, but they were usually more easily manipulated than the Kanads which would make getting started easy, but completing objectives a bit harder since the odds were tipped in the collectives favor. And if the collective found out that the Muramasa had helped the Mantle it wouldn't just be Yanim and Rask who were wanted. Yuga decided that she would call the matter to a vote. Mostly just to take a sample of the crews opinions as she was herself mostly ready to work with the Collective. She opened the ships intercomm, "Attention, This is Captain Shuur. Our next assignment requires us to pick sides in the looming Mantle - Collective conflict in the eastern quadrant. To help us achieve our mission, our contractor has urged me to work with one of these. Send me your votes and I shall reflect on this decision. In other news, the colossal carrier outside has just been acquired to the company's fleet. If you want more details regarding this matter you should speak to our contractor." Yuga took of her cap and released her scabbard from her belt and sat down in the captains chair. Even though the choice of allies seemed logical to her, there were numerous factors she needed to take into account before making the final decision.
Johannes glances up at Yuga's voice on the intercom, and furrows his brow. He's never heard of these groups before. He keys a basic text message to Yuga to work as his 'vote' From Johannes Van Der Meijde: Captain, I have not heard of either of these groups, so I will cast my vote in favor of whatever your preferred choice is.
(( I guess we can slide it under the rug as Johannes' cryosleep, but the Sanghvi Mantle and the Kanadys Collective are two of the galaxies major "states", along with The Ayr Empire, The Sol System government, Free World Covenant, The Gathering of Blades and the Elysium Combine. For future referance.))
((Cool, sounds good. But yeah I mean he just woke up 6 years ago and it's safe to say he's stayed away from politics.))
Alex and Amy send their votes in.
Speaking from personal experience, Kanads are far easier to talk to.-Alex

If we piss off the Colective, we may have to deal with StateSec in the future. I'd rathet not do that.-Amy
Meanwhile, Frosty was not on board and was somewhere else, so he did not hear Yuga's message over the intercom.
Abraxas shrugged, sending his message through.
The Kanadys Collective field the Black Fleet along with State Security. Unfortunately I have no particular experience other than their desire to expand their influence. Siding with them may give us less heat off our backs in the run time while gaining an eased relationship. The Sanghvi are a more difficult matter. Although the Sanghvi process a competent military their odds against the Kanad are less than fortunate. Not to mention I see no visible benefits working with them in the short run. The problem of the matter is the lack of knowledge concerning the Sanghvi's inventory and culture. Why choose and care about the lesser known side when you can choose the one with the bigger known benefits and personality? Unless Jag has anything about the Mantle I'm going with the Collective. - Abraxas
Taylor and Valkyrie sent in their votes.
The Mantle. - Taylor

Goin' with the underdog, the Sanghvi. - Valkyrie

She began moving it slowly as if she was fencing with it and gently touched Amelia in various spots.
Amelia blushes from the soft, gentle touches from her captain. 'oh lord, stop' she thinks to herself. 'please stop, I'm much more sensitive than you think' Her mouth waves and her forehead sweats. Finally, Yuga stopped caress- I-I mean checking Amelia out.
"It certainly comes from one of your entertainment games. You're open for easy attacks here, here, here and here." she explained before putting her sword back into it's scabbard.
'Well yeah I haven't done this before so why not be spectacular"
"But you are a beginner at this so it's not expected of you to know such things."
Amelia pouts, puffing her cheeks. Finally her captain walks away.
"Although, Alex may be a better teacher than me. He was trained by a Knight commander, while mine was from a regular trainer."
She directs her attention, "Nah, I think you're good. Besides, Alex looks like he's been through tons of stress in his life so I think it would be best if you train me." --- Porter overhears the announcement. He opens his pad and writes out a message.
