"What do you mean acquisitions?" Johannes takes his helmet off and narrows his eyes at Hariim. "I'm asking you to work on my suit to bring it up to par, not so you can study the system and sell the specs to the highest bidder."
Hariim shakes his head. "Johannes. Your gear is 150 years old. The software running on it is 150 years old. If I was interested in selling the specs for outdated tech, I'd have done it as soon as look at you. You want me to integrate technology into your suit that is 150 years new." Hariim says in as clear a tone as he can for Johanne's benefit. He pulls out his holo-reader and accesses its display so he can show Johannes something. What he shows Johannes is the most advanced processor from 150 years ago, and the latest most advanced one as of yesterday's news. The newer one is smaller by about 5 orders of magnitude, more power efficient by a long shot, and many orders of magnitude more powerful. "I'm not interested in the specs, Johannes. What I need to look at is the software, the OS, and the drivers that makes your hardware work. Once I get that figured out I can either hack together an update for your suit, or downgrade the newer hardware you need to work with your suit. I'm absolutely certain that there's going to be some problems with doing what we need to do. Tech 15 years back has compatability issues with today's tech. But 150 years?! You're asking for a miracle, bub. That's why my first instinct was to look at getting you a new suit." Hariim finishes, having made his point. He also pulls up a series of catalog listings; the acquisitions Hariim was referring to. Ammunition, electronics, a nice new sidearm, surplus non-newtonian ballistic plate, mililmeter bandwidth radar, ladar, and lidar sensor packages, and a swanky new pair of boots. "This is what I'm looking at getting. With my last payday I'm hoping to get my combat gear back up to snuff so I can get out in the field. "So now you see what I'm up to? I need to learn the systems in your suit so I can bring them up to par, which is not going to be an easy feat. I wanna get that done before we leave Mars so I can get what I need to get." ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bucky smiles a little wider at Valk and then turns back to her work. With the mem-metal patch in place the leak is effectively fixed, but she wants to replace the affected section of piping anyways. With a few commands over her link to the ship's systems she diverts the fluid flow away from this section of the ship and closes the valves connecting to the patched section of pipes. After the excess fluid is purged, the sets to work detaching the pipes while checking inventory for spares. She says to Valkyrie: "I've depressurized and purged the pipes, we can start replacing them now. Mind heading down to Storage and pulling the spares? I already flagged them in the system, you should be able to find them no problem."
Frosty listened in as Hariim spoke to whoever-it-was with the funky clothes. Hearing him talk about outdated technology made him worried. This strange man in the funny clothes had tech dating back 150 years, but by golly Frosty's starfighter is more than twice as old than his suit. That thing desperately needs an upgrade. "If you think 150 years is too much, try 400." he said aloud unknowingly while still looking at his paper.
Amy walked out of the shower and put on her casual clothes. The day was long and she was getting hungry, so she left for the mess hall. After a few moments she was there and picking out what Alex had cooked. She also noticed Hariim "Ey, Hariim. I disabled the cameras in my room, including the one strategically placed above the shower-head. Will turn them back on, once my privacy concerns are taken care of."
(( Sorry I haven't posted in a week and a half. Finals are coming up and I'm studying my butt off. Hopefully I'll be able to post here again in about two weeks. ))
János just kept on cleaning after finishing the hallway. As he wasn't doing much in the Brig anyway, this was a nice way of distracting himself. Heck, it even felt a little therapeutic. He was in a state of bliss. At some point, he unawarely entered the mess hall, whistling some tune no one recognized while dragging his bucket around. No one really paid any particular attention to him, except maybe think he was being a bit weird. He exited his state of bliss when he heard something about outdated tech from the frozen Dutchmen and the cybernetic Human, followed by a comment from the frozen Spaceman. He began wondering about his own tech. He did only activate 10 years ago, and despite being told that his body's tech was outdated by some 5 years, it is older than it looks. He tried to ignore the thought and continued cleaning.
Hariim looks at Amy with a puzzled expression. He is genuinely confused. "Amy. There aren't cameras in anybody's quarters. At least there shouldn't be. I'm still figuring out this bucket's systems, so every day is a discovery for me. I just figured out yesterday that this thing is running three different operating systems simultaneously, and all three are not only from different companies but also entirely different species working on different numeric bases. Yank the cameras out of your quarters and do whatever you want with them, I'll figure out why they were there later if you want. For now, I need to figure out Johanne's suit." He looks at Johannes with an expectant expression. "That is if he'll let me. Kind of need to in order to get him what he wants."
Yuga viewed the message and studied the galactic map again. Sirgas was close to the Ayr border and Voyak almost on the outer rim. She reasoned that if they were going to help the collective they might as well weaken the sanghvi presence near the empire. By siding with the collective on this mission she would aid the empire at the same time. "This is captain Shuur. I have decided that we shall start on Sirgas. And by a crew-vote we have decided to side with the collective." She stood up and idly watched the galactic map, wondering if Taylor had gotten anything out of Jag. And more importantly, how long did it take for one man to fetch a cup of tea?
(( wait I thought we voted to side with the sanghvi and frosty didnt even get to vote  ))
"So what's up with you, Jag?"
The Sanghvi took in an deep sign, filtering out it's inner shell before looking up towards Taylor. "I know you expect answers First officer Taylor...But first I must ask you, what do you know of the Sanghvi's psychic connection to the void? Or even just the void in general? I know deeper knowledge of Sanghvi is quite scarce with the outer races such as Humanity." Jag asked towards her, before tilting it's head lightly to the right. It's implant let out an low hiss while it's head titled, afterwards Jag resumed it's previous facing.
If you care any, I put my vote towards the aid of my kind. The Mantle such endure. -Jag Perditus
((Alot of people gave their votes to Yuga, so it was a 50-50 and when Yuga cast her vote it tipped the scales))
(( Here comes Frosty to upset the balance even MORE. ))
Captain Yuga, I heard there was a vote on which side to pick for our next mission. I have thought of this decision long and hard for all of five seconds, and I think it's best if we fight for the Sanghvi. I heard the collective is not very nice to say the least, and I don't enjoy fighting for the wrong kind of people. Nor do I enjoy fighting for what I do not believe in. - Frosty.
(( Radley pls reconsider. ))
((I graduated today! :D)) Maddox snapped into a salute with a smile on his. "I was hoping you'd both like it, you'll have the encrypted blueprint files in three minutes."
"I know you expect answers First officer Taylor...But first I must ask you, what do you know of the Sanghvi's psychic connection to the void? Or even just the void in general? I know deeper knowledge of Sanghvi is quite scarce with the outer races such as Humanity."
"Not much at all, really. I'm guessing the Void is like a spiritual realm or something?" she responded tilting her head a little. ....
"I've depressurized and purged the pipes, we can start replacing them now. Mind heading down to Storage and pulling the spares? I already flagged them in the system, you should be able to find them no problem."
"Got it." said Valkyrie, standing up from where she was and heading out of the room. She headed down to the Storage area of the engineering bay, and grabbed the replacement piping before returning quickly. They had to get this repaired before the ship went anywhere.
((Gonna recount the votes when I get home so I don't fuck anything))
"Not much at all, really. I'm guessing the Void is like a spiritual realm or something?"
Jag lightly swung it's head to look at both sides of the room around Taylor before answering. "In a way, yes. To help visualize the void and it's connection to the Sanghvi, elements of Humanity's spirituality involving ones connection to an deity or enlightenment would be applicable."
"In a way, yes. To help visualize the void and it's connection to the Sanghvi, elements of Humanity's spirituality involving ones connection to an deity or enlightenment would be applicable."
"Ah, alright. So...what about the Void? Giving you visions or something?" she asked, resting her head on her arms.
Hariim shakes his head. "Johannes. Your gear is 150 years old. The software running on it is 150 years old. What makes ME tick is in the suit's computers. I'd feel a lot more damn comfortable if you could show me how to download that to external storage and wipe it off my suit's computer before I let you into my systems. As far as a 'new' suit, I like this one. It's familiar, the AI and I get along really well, and it was tailor made to work with what they made me. I don't know about a new suit, it might not work the same. The nanites it makes might not be compatible with my implants. The spinal jacks might not fit my ports, and I'm sure as fuck not going through getting a new set of those. Maddox is going to reinforce the armor, or maybe put a shield generator on it. I just want the computer to be faster and less prone to the kind of bullshit you pulled when I was minding my own business outside my berth."
Ah, alright. So...what about the Void? Giving you visions or something?"
"That's what I tired to do," Jag said while it lowered it's head, nodding slowly in thought. "And I failed." Jag's tone was fairly low, baring an sense of defeat and regent in it's voice. The Sanghvi nod for another moment before rising back to face Taylor's eye level. "It bought back an old memory, an very painfully one at that." Jag stated while it stared towards Taylor. [editline]3rd June 2016[/editline] Hestia and Vakarus continued their conversation as they walked, Hestia even giving a short wave towards Taylor as they pasted her. They both reached the bridge a moment later. Hestia with her hands behind her back, greeted her new captain. "Greetings, I I'm Hestia Zeta- 9." Hestia said while extending her left hand towards Yuga and placing her right by her side.
((All right drones, the results are in. People who didn't vote; Amelia, Markus, Dio, Maddox ,Vakarus, Bucky, Janos and Hariim. Johannes and Hestia are new so they don't get to vote. Anyhow, these people I assume are fine in joining whatever side gets the most votes so they are rendered null. Final results (including these late entries) Mantle: 5 Collective: 5. Since Yuga and Taylor, ie the captain and first mate, vote collective this draw will be settled by them. If your character is run all the way up the wrong alley by this you can take it up with either Yuga or Taylor directly, otherwise we will work with the commies.)) [editline]4th June 2016[/editline] Yuga slowly turned around, hands behind her back and looked up on Hestia, "Another terran mind trapped in a steel sarcophagus or are you actually a synthetic?"
((I voted for Yuga's vote. wtf))
((Since Yuga and Taylor, ie the captain and first mate, vote collective this draw will be settled by them.))
[Taylor voted Mantle.]
((Oh fuck, I actually counted johannes vote in the first one, my bad. It looks like Hestia has the final vote then. Also ty infab. Its pretty late so I switched Taylors vote by my mistake, but the numbers should be in order. Which means: 5-5 with Hestias vote remaining.)) [editline]4th June 2016[/editline] ((Jesus christ I missed Owens vote, which brings it to 6-5 for the collective. If Hestia creates a tie Taylor will have to argue for the mantle since she is the first mate.))
Frosty finally looks up from his paper after hearing Johannes talk trash to Hariim. This would not stand. "Hey now, Hariim's just trying to help you! There's no need to be so upset!"
Johannes looks over at Frosty, focusing on him intently. "You don't know what our conversation is about. I suggest you mind your own business, friend."
"I have been sitting here for a while, listening to the both of you, I know what's going on. He isn't going to sell your specs, there's no price for something as old and outdated as that anywhere."
"Obviously, you have not been listening as well as you think if you believe I am concerned about the specs of my outdated suit." Johannes rolls his eyes. "Do you always interject yourself into the business of others without invite?"
"Just trying to stand up for a friend, after you called him a 'condescending asshole'."
"I didn't say asshole, I said ass. Different connotation. Besides I have more than enough reason to be wary of him after he hacked into my suit's computers less than an hour after me being on the ship on a whim."
"It brought back an old memory, and a very painfully one at that."
Taylor noticed the changes in Jag's voice. She looked up to Jag's head, where the large crack still sat. "...I'm guessing that crack across your head has a lot to do with it too." Head injuries were always nasty things to deal with. "...care to talk about it? The memory, I mean."
Hestia, sightly offended, slowly put her left hand by her side. "Synthetic.." Hestia said in a less then happy tone, Ayr we're very few to nonexistent within the Combine. As such, Hestia was sightly unease by her new Captain but pressed on with her words regardless. "I'm the new medical Physician employed to serve aboard the Muramasa, Miss Shuur." Hestia said towards Yuga.
