"Oh. I suppose that's why one of them have me a thumbs up for 'representing them'. What a strange name, though. What are they, a bunch of weirdos obsessed with death and think skulls are scary or something?"
"Figures that one of them would think you're a member. Probably was dumb enough to think black+white=member. They have no standarts when recruiting. As for the death thing, that's a bit of a story and.." She remembered that she was carrying food. "Oh right, look, I got this to carry inside. You want to come in? Can give you a nice story with something I made off with before comming here."
"Sure. Lead the way."
"Right through here." She said as they walked inside. Amy placed the food tray on the night stand. "Make yourself comfortable. I'll be with you in a minute. Where did I put that?" She looked through her duffel bag, unltill she found what she was looking for. A small odd looking device. She placed it on the ground in fron of Frosty and prepared to tell the story. "Ok, let's start from the begining." She pressed a button and the machine lit up and projected a holgraphic circle. It looked like a planet. A dark, bombed out and desolate planet. "This is Gibel. 200 years ago it was a death world. The previous inhabitants had nuked themselves off the face of it a few thousand before that." The circle started displaying small holographic explosions on the planet's surface. "Now this is where this guy comes into play." The hologram switched to that of a man's face. "This is Mordecai. Ex-Sol military and egomaniac. We don't really know about his past, other than him leaving because Sol was 'too soft and wouldn't go the needed distance' whatever that means. He comes to Gibel and sees that there is indeed some local population on the iradiated surface and that they are crazy enough to work hard to exploit the resources. Radiation levels had dropped, but they still had to deal with some heavy rads. That and raiding parties and pirates" The hologram switches to Mordecai standing in front of some troops. "He organized a local group of militia to fight two of those problems." Another switch to troops and pirates fighting each other. "The group became guardians of every major settlement on the planet. Fighting off raiders and pirates and protecting supply caravans. It's thanks to them that the planet practically rose from the ashes. That's where the name comes from. The dead are always watching and are vigilant." She said in a overdramatic voice. Another hologram displayed Mordecai on a throne. "Eventually, they expanded to off-world and began to guard more than food caravans. Mordecai himself was declared ruler of Gibel as he took control either through diplomacy or force. Now the Death Vigil are one of the biggest and most powerfull mercenary organizations in the galaxy" The device made one final switch to the Death Vigil logo. "So, did that answer your question? And did you like the little light show?"
Frosty applauded once the light show was finished. It was impressive for him at least. "Interesting! And this Mordecai person, the news said he was assassinated recently. I wonder what's going to happen to these people now."
"Probably will be running around trying to find a new leader. Maybe they will get it together. Maybe thary will fall apart. Who knows?" Amy reached for one of the shrimp bits in the food tray. "Hungry?"
"Oh, no thanks. While I love your brother's cooking, I'd rather not steal your food when I can get someone it myself in the mess hall. Thank you, though." Frosty got up from sitting indian-style. "Also, since we're talking, I might as well say this: you remember when you first came onboard this ship, someone flashed their headlights at you and started to scream at you?"
"Very well, Captain." Jag said before excusing itself from the conversation, stepping back from Yuga and down to viewing station of the bridge. Jag looked out onto the red planet, it's surface bristling with life with the many stations and vessel circling around it. The Sanghvi stood pondering humanity's impact on the galactic community. For both better or worse. --- After sending her massage, Hestia entered the medical bay with an sense of wonder and curiosity on her fellow associate's work.
"That was you. I pieced it together since you're the only person who has a fighter here. If you're worried about it, don't. You did what you thought was the right thing when a stranger armed with a gun comes knocking."
Abraxas walked forward, folding his arms at the robot in the medbay.
"Oh, thanks. I was worried you secretly hated my guts for that. Either way I'm happy it was a friendly that showed up and not some evil person who wanted to kill us all." Frosty headed for the door to return to his cabin, to inspect that crate even more. "Well anyway, I'm headed back to my own cabin. I have some crate expectations to attend to. Nice talking to you, by the way!"
Hestia quickly found her fellow Physician, through a bit off put by the gasmask. She introduced herself nevertheless. "Ah Greetings. You must be Mr. Abraxas Physician, I'm the new medical physician employed to serve along side you in the medical care and treatment of the crew of the Muramasa." Hestia said cheerfully towards Abraxas.
"Oh yeah." Abraxas stared at her, looking around the room. He shrugged. "Unfortunately we don't have a stage, or a "pole" so you're going to have to dance on the floor for now." He waved off with his hand. "I do have a disco ball you can use while the song is up. So when we're treating patients you can entertain them too."
Hestia titled her head for a second before answering Abraxas. "I see you have quite the sense of humor, Mr. Abraxas. Let me sure you that I'm build towards helping and aiding the crew through my excessive medical knowledge, Mr. Abraxas." "I'm also not the greatest dancer so you can save the disco ball for yourself."
"I'm just fucking with you. Right." Abraxas rolled his shoulders. He pointed to his workplace. "This room contains the Science lab and Medbay obviously. The Science lab has a scientist named Amelia Weinheart. Now, there's probably three of us working here until we decide to call it quits or kill ourselves. I'll migrate any of my workplace from the center to the right side so you can set up shop. You have any questions regarding the inventory of the medbay or personal projects you need help on then call me." He pointed his right thumb to himself.
"It seems that our crew has a difficult time choosing our allegiance for our next assignment. As you are the first mate of my choosing I thought it wise to consult you on your opinion before I, the acting captain, makes the final decision."
"Understood, ma'am." said Taylor, shifting to a more relaxed stance. "Well, there's a few problems with supporting the Collective. One, we already foiled a Collective plot. We rescued Yanim back on Itara. If they trace the company name back to Yanim, we're screwed. Another reason is we don't know if the Collective and State Sec will just spin around and stab us in the back when we're done. And that's without knowing about the boss. Yet another reason is that we'll probably be on the Collective's bad side later on down the line. Its kind of pointless to help them just to turn around and have to fight the people we just helped. And finally...do you really want to fight Sanghvi with another Sanghvi onboard? I don't think that'd go down too well, especially since Jag isn't quite stable at the moment."
Hariim sets to work, and in the span of about 3 seconds has the files Johanne's wants pulled onto the Muramasa's computers, and then loaded onto a secure data chip for him. Hariim wipes the data and caches from the Muramasa computers, and hands the chip over to Johannes. "There you go dude. That's everything in the file location you gave me, and I've made sure to scrub anything that came into contact with the data in it. You're all set. And it's a bit soon for jokes between us, Jo. Especially ones where I'm 'molesting' other living people. That shit isn't funny when it comes to androids, dude. It really isn't." Hariim replies, already starting in on the next piece of work he needs to get done. It takes a few minutes, but Hariim figures out the computer side of things in Johanne's suit. "Yep, just what I thought. Your suit isn't compatible with a lot of the modern software and hardware of today. I can work with what it is compatible with though. I'll clear the cost of the acquisitions with Yuga, and have what I need shipped over here. Once that all gets here I can get your suit up to snuff in about a day." --------------------------------------- Bucky works quickly and efficiently. After about 10 minutes the warp engines are purring like newborn kittens. Bucky walks up a few moments after her work is done. She's got a light smearing of grease on her hands, face, and jumpsuit but doesn't seem to mind it. "Thanks for the hand Valk! That's pretty much all the work I needed to get done for now. You want to help me take a look at Frosty's fighter? It's up for a nice tune-up and inspections."
Johannes makes a face at Hariim as he takes the data chip, sliding it into a small slot at the base of his neck near the port at the base of his skull. The face he makes is a mixture of confusion and minor irritation. "What are you talking about? It's a robot. I doubt it cares about a whispered joke about you "molesting"... He says this with finger quotes. "..its tech, let alone has feelings about it."
Hariim looks aghast at Johannes for a second, then a realization dawns on him. "You... You don't know, do you? I mean, I thought you might have learned.... but. Johannes, there are sentient, living machines these days. Hestia is one of them; and so is this ship's chief engineer. They are built, sure, but they're people like you and me." Hariim speaks in a simple informative tone, he just assumes Johannes didn't know the implications of what he just said and so he doesn't bother to comment on it.
Johannes stares at Hariim with a confused look on himself. "...Wait what, seriously? When did that happen? Back when I was frozen the closest thing we had were Military grade AI's but even those didn't come close to true sentience." He furrows his brow and exhales sharply through his nose. "...I guess that would explain that one robot, or I guess android, I was hired to destroy last year praying when... well..." Johannes trails off, and shakes his head. "Okay well that's a thing now I guess. Wait... are YOU a rob- er, Android?"
"No, dude I'm just a cyborg. Took a slug to the brain back when I was in the SDF Marine Corp. That's why I've got this obvious cybernetic eye." He says, indicating his currently green-glowing eye. "That's the replacement eye I got on top of the other cybernetics they put in me to keep me alive. A lot of the left side of my brain is synthetic now, but I'm still mostly meat." He continues. While he talks he sends a list of the items he'll need to fix up Johanne's suit to Yuga which includes all the expenses. He figures the company will cover at least some of the costs since that's how all his past employers did things.
Johannes nods understandingly. "Ah yeah I bet that sucked. I got lucky in comparison. Stray bullet hit my left eye here..." He gestures to just inside the bridge of his nose. "...and tracked along right out of my temple. Blew out my eye socket and a good deal of the side of my face. Didn't hit my brain though. Got a pretty nice cybernetic replacement from the KMKM. Vermaak upgraded it for me when I joined with them, and then the first thing I did when I got thawed was to get this pretty number." He taps the massive knot of scar tissue surrounding his left eye, obviously indicating his cybernetic replacement eye, which glows a soft blue.
"Very well." Hestia said towards Abraxas as she looked over the state of the lab. Glancing over the various equipment stored there. She took particular note of what she assumed to be Abraxas's medical projects scattered neatly about the room.
"Nice piece. What kind of 'ware you got on it? Entopic displays or readouts? I like to keep my own entopics on in both eyes. AR overlays are a helluva useful tool anywhere." Hariim replies, shifting to a more conversational tone while he has some of his runtimes begin writing out some sections of the code that'll let Johanne's old gear talk and work with the new gear that's about to get jury rigged into it.
Johannes shrugs "Basic stuff. Mostly it just serves as a seamless replacement to my organic eye, since most of the time I've got my HUD in my suit, and when I'm not wearing my suit I like to... forget... what I am." He pauses, then shakes his head. "Uh it's got a light version of my HUD if I ever want to bring it up, targeting software, infrared and basic x-ray, things like that."
((When are we going to fight some people?))
(( yay I have some time to post for like two days )) Amelia walks into the medic room, yawning. "Sorry, I've been sleeping, wha-" she widens her eyes as she looks at Hestia. "INTRUDER!" dashing towards a counter holding a sharp knife, hesitates, the grabs an even BIGGER knife. "State your purpose here!" she demands, pointing the knife at Hestia's face.
"Nice, sounds swanky. My whole visual cortex got replaced, so I can see pretty much whatever I can pipe in there as visual data. I once actually imported the mathematical formula for a warp bubble into there. Trippiest fucking thing I ever saw, man." Hariim keeps at his work while chatting away with Johannes. He wonders when Yuga is going to get back to him.
"...Why though?"
Abraxas raised a hand. "Cut the crap, Weinheart. This is your new crew member, a Physician from the shitty Elysium Combine. Hestia. Now put the knife down or I'll have to tranq you."
