Taylor motioned for Mad to follow, and then set out to find one of the supervisors for the depot. Better to get that APC now and get out of here. "We don't need a tank, Johannes. Just an APC. Tanks are big targets." she stated on a private channel, as she walked away from the truck. One of the supervisors was nearby, overseeing the transference of the flares. Another was talking to two other peacekeepers, near the larger armored vehicles nearby.
Maddox followed Taylor closely. He observed the supervisor, a UGC sergeant. Human but definietly not Sol-born, otherwise he would've been with the SDF. Mad punched Taylor jokingly on the arm. "Ever charmed a man into giving you the keys to an armored personnel vehicle before?"
"So? They're still fun, Taylor."
"Ever charmed a man into giving you the keys to an armored personnel vehicle before?"
Taylor chuckled. "Nah. Blew a guy's knee out with my revolver and took it by force."
"So? They're still fun, Taylor."
"Yeah. They are, but we don't need one. At least not right now. Besides, we can't all ride inside a tank."
Maddox chuckled. "Remind me to never piss you off, Caine." As the duo approached the supervisor Maddox did a quick salute. "Sir, auxiliaries reporting in." He gestured towards Taylor and the squad still back at the truck. "We're with the Vohmdash Halo contract, got orders to requisition a APC here for transporting maintenance crew and materials to several facilities in the area." Mad then looked at Taylor, waiting for her to seal the deal.
Hariim shifts his focus, instead aiming to hack the correct permissions into place should the chit fail so that he could conveniently get them an APC through his means. He listens in through Taylor's suit comms so he can remain appraised of the situation. He of course notifies her with a discreet line of text which scrawls across the lower right corner of her helmet's HUD display.
Taylor chuckled. "Nah. Blew a guy's knee out with my revolver and took it by force."
((Was this over team comms? I'm gonna assume it was unless told otherwise.)) "That's a very loose interpretation of diplomacy." Johannes leans against one of the crates, watching Maddox and Taylor.
"That's a very loose interpretation of diplomacy."
"I call it the 'Give and Take' kind of diplomacy. She gave him a bullet, and took his ride." said Valkyrie via team comm, before chuckling. "Sounds more like something I'd do." Taylor saluted the supervisor as well, then showed him the holochit.
As Frosty pulled back on the stick, he tried to align himself to the enemies which were chasing him. As they were diving from behind at the time, Frosty never quite got the proper angle, but easily broke target lock as they overshot him. He entered a hard turn as they leveled out and each turned in opposite directions, placing one on a diving chicken route with Frosty while the other pulled up from low and behind, attempting to get a new lock on the rogue pilot. Frosty engaged the first enemy pilot with lasers, firing by sight without computer guidance, while the latter fired a smart rocket. Frosty: CH Estimate: 1/4 x 3(Ace) = 3/4 Actual: 2 Roll Passed. Enemy Fighter 1: CH Estimate: 1/2 Actual: 2 Roll Passed. The instant Frosty pulled the trigger, beams of scorching light blasted through the nose and canopy of his foe's fighter, causing the glass to shear off in the wind. In an instant, his craft automatically fired the ejection seat and the pilot was cast away into acidic mist, thankfully wearing full facial and respiratory protection. Enemy Neutralized. However, his own rocket had launched just prior to the attack, and closed in on Frosty's fighter via computer-assisted guidance before exploding in a ring of flack that tore through the fighter's left wing and nearly ripped it clean off the craft. Miraculously, the control surfaces remained responsive as Frosty pulled out of the turn. The second fighter soon gained a lock as Frosty wondered about the structural integrity of his fighter. --- The supervisor, another human, gave the pair an odd look as he took the holochit away and inspected it. "Maintenance, huh?" Maddox + Taylor CH Estimate: 1/6 + 1/2 = 2/3 Actual: 1 Roll Failed. "I'm going to need to double check this. We don't have any arrangements with the Sympathizers to start handing over vehicles. At least I hope we don't..." He shook his head and walked over to a mobile terminal under a canopy where repair equipment was hung neatly from racks. Hariim, watching and listening from afar, realized at that moment that the supervisor was about to make a serious accountability error. Easily hacking into the network, he sought only to change what was displayed on the terminal, rather than trying to breach the likely-secure database on the servers, wherever they may be. Hariim: CH Estimate: 3/4 Actual: 4 Roll Passed. Hook, line, and sinker- the supervisor had a valid-looking holochit, a mercenary auxiliary crew which had just delivered supplies he had been expecting, and now even the netlink was showing an APC reserved to the Vohmdash Halo program. He blinked, appearing somewhat annoyed with the whole arrangement, before unlocking a nearby safe box and retrieving an electronic key to an eight-wheeled vehicle parked at the end of the row. He walked back over and handed the key to Taylor. "I don't know how you all convinced them that you need one of these, but I hope you don't scratch the paint on your little joyride," he grumbled. ((I'm doing major updates to the galactic map. Please contact me on Steam and give me the names of planets which aren't currently on it.))
Hariim smiles inside his helmet, and has his cybernetics make his brain dump a little extra dose of endorphins onto his neuroreceptors in celebration. He walks up to Taylor and Maddox after unloading the last crate and puts another little scrawling line of text in a discreet corner of their HUDs. {"I think with that little stunt I'm just one can short of a six pack, eh?"}
The shock of the missile exploding on Frosty's left shook the inside of his starfighter. It knocked him to the right so hard his head smacked against the metallic insides. It was hard enough that it gave him a cut, causing him to bleed a little. It felt very strange, it felt like he was going into a deep sleep as the world around him melted into nothingness. It felt like his mind was a flood bursting through the walls of a great city. Something within him was knocked loose and poured down upon him like rain. He couldn't feel the pain whatsoever. Because he went berserk. He absolutely lost his mind. This was a side of Frosty nobody even suspected he had. Yellow blood was seeping from under his helmet, and foam was coming out of the mouthpiece. He was twitching violently and gnashing his teeth. It wasn't a pretty sight for anyone on the bridge listening in on him or watching him through his onboard camera. He turned on his afterburners and flew directly at the second pilot as if he was trying to crash right into them, while firing both his lasers to destroy the oncoming missile and two of his own missiles at once the moment he got a lock-on. May God help the first pilot if they're still in the air if/when Frosty kills the second one.
Taylor salutes, then proceeds on towards one of the nearby APCs. "Yeah, nice job Hariim. Alright, everyone load up." she said, as she stopped next to the APC. She handed the key to Mad. "Johannes, you're on the turret. Markus, you're on the secondary. Hariim, comms. Everyone else, grab a seat."
"Aff, Kommandant." Hariim replies quickly and efficiently. He mounts up and gets acquainted with the communications, and more importantly the computer systems of the APC. He quickly scans for anything that could jeopardize the op out of simple professional paranoia, and then sets about figuring out all the interesting ways he can use the comm gear in the APC.
"Fuck yeah turret duty." Johannes uses his suit's jump-jets to launch himself on-top of the APC and clambers into turret housing after opening the hatch. He keys his HUD into the turret's aiming reticle so that they'll work together and settles in. "I hope I get to use it." [editline]14th June 2016[/editline] ((Can this be our APC? Seeing red, Frosty jerked the stick and began a barrel roll. The pilot in the enemy craft expected Frosty to try to get behind him, and so he throttled down and attempted to perform the same maneuver. To his surprise, however, Frosty exited the roll and performed an overbanked turn instead, and was now lining up a shot as both men were inverted in their crafts. Once again, each pilot unleashed a barrage of attacks, but with Frosty having gained the initiative and closed the distance to near-suicidal proportions, it was almost certain that either his plan would work, or the two would simply collide and die. Frosty: CH Estimate: 1/7 x 3(Ace) = 3/7 Actual: 5 Roll Passed. There was a thunderous explosion as the lasers and missiles made short work of the enemy craft, destroying it in a black cloud. Frosty's starfighter pierced through like a bullet through an apple. But as it did, the damage caused by flying scrap, as well as the wounds sustained earlier, combined with damage from the corrosive rain was enough to send alarms through the cockpit warning him of his craft's vulnerability to disintegration at high speed. It recommended an immediate landing for repairs. Meanwhile, the allied fighters from Aswa's Viridian had managed to score two more victories of their own.
Muramasa, this is Aswa. The enemy has just peeled off; either they're giving up, or another wave is coming in soon. I wouldn't bet on the former.
--- The APC rumbled out through the gates onto the washboard roads and toward the main section of Dyatiq, which was further up the hill, pressed right up against a steep ridge where the mountains begin.
Crew, this is Terika. I am receiving confirmation now that you are in possession of an APC. I must congratulate you for getting this far without being discovered. However, I must warn you that you may not be able to maintain this status much longer. The air battle over the city has set off quite a number of alarms. Dyatiq is mainly an underground complex- there's a tunnel which runs entirely through the mountain and after you've finished disabling the missiles within their silos, you must pierce the entire length, as Yovek is on the opposite side.
((Sega can you chime in on what kind of weapon the turret is? Is it a machine gun, gauss rifle, cannon, missile launcher, what? ))
Before Frosty could land, there was one thing he wanted to do first. He wanted to kill the first pilot. He was quite sure he will not land until he found him and did that. He used the soundwave device again to see where this motherfucker was falling from.
((Sega can you chime in on what kind of weapon the turret is? Is it a machine gun, gauss rifle, cannon, missile launcher, what? ))
((25mm autocannon.))
((25mm autocannon.))
((Aw yiss))
Maddox quite enjoyed driving the UGC APC. It wasn't the first time he had done so, although the last time the APC had belonged to a shady merc outfit. When Yanim's message came through he grimaced, deep underground complexes were like mazes. He adjusted himself in the seat and looked out through the viewports. For each second passed the nearby mountain range towering above came closer. "For a dying planet the mountains are pretty." Mad glanced over his shoulder to the comms seat and the commander seat positioned behind the driver. "Hey Taylor, what's the plan once we reach the complex entrance?"
Markus got up in the second turret port. However, this one didn't have a turret installed so he had to rely on his rifle. He overheard Yanim saying that Dyatiq was mostly underground, which was a relief. First off all they got to get out of this shitty weather and secondly they wouldn't have any problems with aerial foes. ... Yuga watched the blips on the map as Frosty managed to destroy them both. However, as she looked over to the pilot feed she could see Frosty twitchin and foamin like a rabid dog. She narrowed her eyes in disgust. Yuga had witnessed these things before, Khergians acted similarly when their famous bloodrage temporarely stripped them of reason and made them into feral beasts. She turned to Vakarus, who was seeing the same thing, "We may want Abraxas to make an inspection after this incident. She contacted Bucky over the comms, " Our fighter has taken considerable damage, You will want to be prepared to make a thorough analysis when he returns."
Vakarus nodded. He had a concerned look on his face. "The Frozen-one has never behaved like this in the past."
Whoever it was flying in Frosty's starfighter leaned forward and stared straight into the onboard camera while breathing rather heavily. It's like if he knew someone was watching him.
"Hey Taylor, what's the plan once we reach the complex entrance?"
Taylor shifted in her seat. "Hopefully Hariim can do another trick. We've gotta convince the guards at the base that we're there to check the AOPN systems and perform maintenance. Maybe fuck with some schedules and such. If we can't...we shoot our way in and out." she said over the team comms. She paused for a moment, then spoke again. "Hariim, when we get close enough, hack into the base's systems if you can and check to see how many missiles there are and where they are in the base. And the quickest route to them. Everyone else, be cool and watch your asses."
"Ten-four." Said Maddox as he continued driving. The APC passed through the wreck of a civilian vehicle which had slowly began to melt away due the acid rain. Up ahead was a narrow road which led towards the mountain complex, the heavily guarded entrance was visible due to the lack of any thick forests or similar fauna. Mad held up five fingers. "Five minutes out before we're there."
Johannes pipes up over comms "Taylor it might not be as black and white as that. If the need arises I can freeze the guards to incapacitate them without gunfire so we don't draw attention to ourselves."
"Taylor it might not be as black and white as that. If the need arises I can freeze the guards to incapacitate them without gunfire so we don't draw attention to ourselves."
"If Hariim's hacking doesn't work, I guess you could freeze them since it'd buy us some time. They'll send someone to check on the guards at the gate when they notice that they've gone silent."
Bucky nods, and says to Yuga from her seat on the bridge. "Roger that, cap. I'll head down to the main bay and get my tools ready." She found it a little funny that Yuga used the comms to call here even though they've been in the same room as each other. She figures it was just habit, and heads down to the main bay to await the return of Frosty's bird. She calls Frosty: "Hey, Frosty. I'll be standing by in the main bay to fix up your fighter. Take it easy on the old girl, eh?" ------------------------------------------------------------------ "Aff, kommandant. I'll do my best." Hariim replies while the sends a private text message to Johannes: {"Mind if I have a look at your suit AI? If it's good at learning new systems it might be able to help me handle some things."}
