"Ah, frak!" Hariim yells as the APC blows up behind him. He immediately gets track on the soldier that shot the rocket, and fires off the rest of his magazine at him on impact-delayed detonation. He shifts position to link up with Valkyrie. "Bad spot here, like Johannes said! We gotta boogie or press on to our objective. What's the call?!" He says as he swiftly reloads, already profiling his next targets and preprogramming detonation ranges and settings for optimum effectiveness.
Yugas face formed into a deep frown. Frosty was shot down and the ground team had run into trouble, serious trouble, this early in the plan. Now they would have to improvise and make decisions with insufficient information. This was something Yuga strongly disliked but fortunately for her Taylor had been an officer and would hopefully be able to make the right calls. Aside from Bach's piano concerto No.5 playing from Yugas compass and the ambient humming from the various terminals the bridge was eerily silent. Yuga lifted her cup and observed the steaming liquid in it, pondering if she should leave the crew after this venture. The profits had been of mentionable proportions, but so had the risks. While Yuga didn't put her own life on the line she would have no use of a crippled crew and serving under a self proclaimed freedom fighter who was building a liberation army was becoming more and more revolting to her. And the crew, naive and rebellious to the powers that be in the galaxy had chosen to side with the weaker side in the conflict, bringing this hardship onto themselves. She would have a choice few words when this mission was concluded. But for now she needed to focus at the task at hand and replied to Taylor, "Proceed with the first objective. Should you encounter to much resistance, then you will abandon it and proceed with the secondary objective. That is a direct order. Casualties must be avoided whilst we must also strive to accomplish our actual contract." She took a sip from the cup and contacted Bucky, "Ms Fermi. Would you be so kind and report to the bridge."
Bucky answers in the affirmative and hustles to the bridge. She arrives, tools jangling from carabiners and pockets. "Reporting as ordered, Cap! Whaddya need?"
Yanim, having heard the radio chatter about the APC's destruction, became even more distraught at the new development. She contacted Checkered and inquired about additional assistance, who in turn connected her to Captain Sharpe of the support ship Cataract. He had been posted on Voyak weeks prior with the intention of providing alternative escape routes to stranded crews should one of the primary ships, such as the Muramasa, Sparrowhawk, or Viridian, be destroyed. More important, however, was the drop ship in his hangar bay.
Who is this? Terika? Never heard of you, but we're ready to help however we can.
Sharpe's tone was confident, which was promising to Yanim, who had hoped he would be easy to persuade. "Dyatiq. The away team of the Muramasa may require your dropship for redeployment purposes."
Redeployment where?
"Yovek Airbase. We've lost our first transport vehicle and our mission is time-sensitive." Yanim could hear the captain's first officer swearing as she punched in Dyatiq's coordinates to the navigational computer. Nonetheless, the boss persisted- "We have multiple teams on the ground and our ship has been spotted once before by air defenses. Deploying the Muramasa to the area would be an unacceptable risk."
Well it's not like we're disposable either... Look, kanad, we're only going to do this if we're guaranteed payment, since this is far outside the bounds of what the resistance is paying us to handle.
"Do you own your ship?" Yanim demanded, grinding her fangs. Rask looked over from his station with a concerned expression.
Well... yes. I- I do. What are you getting at..?
"Give me an offer. I'll buy it outright if you're willing to take orders."
What?
"What?" Rask echoed. "[Do we even have the money for that? Wait, what kind of ship is it!?]" Yanim glared at him as she repeated her offer. "Tell me what the Cataract is worth to you, and my company will acquire it. You and your crew remain and assist the Muramasa for the remainder of the mission, and beyond if you so choose." The negotiations went quickly. The Cataract was larger than the Muramasa but less well-armed, having been built primarily for speed and defense. It had a large carrying capacity, but only for transportation- the living quarters could only host around a dozen permanent crewmembers. The hangar bay, located under the ship's nose, could hold a drop ship or possibly two starfighters, or could be used for extra cargo space. In short, it was a highly versatile craft, and built quite recently to take advantage of the surge in illicit trade throughout the galaxy. Captain Sharpe and his crew set out immediately for Dyatiq, having made a lucrative deal. ---
Muramasa, this is Checkered. We have additional information which may increase your chances of success. Once inside of Dyatiq, you will need to override the security network's control over the elevator system. After you have gained control, descend to the lowest level of the base where the missile launch systems are located. There should be a second, emergency escape tunnel to the surface. This portion of the base is deep underground because it is designed to withstand a direct hit and enable the operators to respond with second-strike capability. It is bound to be heavily guarded, but once taken it will provide you the opportunity to destroy the missiles by launching them with the blast-doors closed. I also have word that your contractor has arranged for your extraction once you have escaped from the base. The support ship Cataract has just been acquired by Terika-Belladonna and will be providing you a dropship for immediate use in the pursuit of the Archive at Yovek Airbase.
[Mission Update] Current Objectives: ✔ Gain entry to Dyatiq * Retrieve Frosty's Body * Destroy or disable at least half of the missiles * Assault Yovek Airbase * Recover Archive I * Escape Voyak ((More to come later tonight.))
"Fuck this!" Johannes bumps shoulders with Abraxas and motions at Amy. "Give her to me! I'm going to get her out of the firefight and see if I can't stabilize her until we can get her out of here!" He turns to Taylor "Caine! Regroup the team beyond the wall! Maddox used the APC to knock the gate down, get everyone inside and away from the Gohva! I'll cover the rest of the team. Go, now!" Before anyone could object, Johannes uses the nozzles on his gloves to spray a stream of supercooled water and refrigerant mix into the air between the team and the remaining peacekeepers. It would turn, quickly, into a thick dense white fog, hovering between ground level and around fifteen feet high. It was very cloying, sticking to anything that went into it and swirling around. He then turns and motions Abraxas to give Amy to him, overcharging his jump jets to get him and her into somewhere safer so he could freeze her.
"She's already stabilized after I took the fire out. I did everything I can while havoc is occurring everywhere." Abraxas corrected, "You want to be a Knight in shining armor? Then do us a favor and take both of you out of here and get to Muramasa." He placed the quiet Amy into Johan's hands, nodding.
"Did you stop all of her bleeding? I don't want to be a "Knight in Shining Armor" I just don't want to lose anybody on this mission."
"Yes." Abraxas bluntly said
Johannes stares blankly at Abraxas for just long enough for it to be uncomfortable, then looks around, quickly trying to find a safe location to move Amy to. ((Just in case it's not clear I'm waiting for someone with GM authority to give me somewhere to go to get Amy to safety))
((I'm about to start working on my next big post, but first I want to alert you that you can actually bug out of this fight without my permission, as well as describe scenery and setting -within reason- without waiting on me. More importantly, however, I don't think taking Amy anywhere is necessary. The group's doctor is carrying her through danger to extraction, watching over her. I think he's capable.))
Yuga turns her head towards Bucky, her face looking more tired than usual due to the current state of the operation. "Do you have any experience with communcation networks? If so I'll need you to intercept or block any calls for reinforcement requests from the missile base. In our current situation it is the last thing we need. Contact M'baal to assist you on the matter." She used the chairs console to contact Taylor, "Caine. We have new intel regarding the mission. If your team can make it to thw elevator and access the underground AOPN terminal you can destroy all of them by firing them with their respective blastdoors shut. Be advised, this approach will garner heavy resistance but we are in progress on trying to keep the black fleet at bay for as long as we can."
Hestia looked over the small group assembled to retrieve Frosty's body. She covered her light frame with hard plates and medical gear, just enough to shield her but still allowing her to move unhindered. As her metal feet touched the surface of Voyak, it's toxic atmosphere and pale ground reminded her of Attica. Through rather through over indulgence of the planet's resources, Attica was naturally hostile to organic life. Nevertheless, she turned towards János. Another synth, she awaited his command while she calculated a possible path through the UGC patrols.
Maddox rushed in ahead of the squad to the main entrance corridor since the APC had knocked out the gate before it was destroyed. As he moved forward with his rifle ready, he noticed a pair of massive blastdoors on the sides. Thankfully they were still open, however seeing as the base would be on alert they could close any time. Maddox kneeled and glanced over his shoulder. "Clear! Move up." While the rest of the squad moved forward, Mad used the time to check his inventory. The majority of the sandbag charges had been lost in the APC explosion, however he still had two of them inside his large backpack. That meant he had six explosive N-X charges, three spidermines and three rockets to his RPG while Johannes carried the two Firecrackers. Maddox quickly reported this to the comms channel.
Debris continued to fall out of the air as the crew snapped out of shock. Jag took initiative by organizing their advance behind a smokescreen combined with chaff, designed to limit their enemies to thermal imaging alone. CH Estimate: 3/4 Actual: 3 Roll Passed. As the crew began to advance into the tunnel entrance, another team of Peacekeepers arrived- two tetrians and two additional kanads from the Black Fleet. The tetrians and the lone remaining human, being equipped only with standard-issue gasmasks, were forced to take cover and wait for the smoke to clear, while the three kanads were able to see through the smoke using their HUD-enabled breathing masks. They set up in a crouching formation behind a concrete barrier and waited for an opportunity to strike. Maddox assisted Markus getting to his feet while Abraxas set about providing medical assistance. Markus +63HP, 82/125 Once Markus was going again, Maddox laid down fire on the enemy position to try to cover Abraxas as he carried Amy along. CH Estimate: 3/5 Actual: 4 Roll Passed. Maddox: {7, 6, 5} x 1.25(Machinist) = {9, 8, 6} DMG Spraying the barricade as he jogged forward, Markus tagged each of the three kanads with a bullet as he ran past, starting with the commander, who was looking tired and weak. The shot deflected off his helmet, with enough force to crack the shell and nearly knock him out. The other two were also hit, but in the shoulder and body, respectively, where they were less vulnerable. All three returned fire on the human. Kanads 1, 2, and 3: {8, 3, 4} + {6, 6, 6}(Numbers) = {14, 9, 10} = 33 Total Maddox: DEF Rolls: {7, 7, 4}(Machinist) = 18 Total 15 Total DMG Maddox HP: 161/156(Nanosurgeon) New faction feat discovered: Black Fleet Numbers (When fighting in groups, +2 damage per comrade, maximum +10) A pair of plasma bursts splashed off of Maddox's armor as he ran, scorching the surface but failing to penetrate due to the lack of a direct hit. Markus then responded with a pot shot of his own, directed toward the kanad commander. Markus: 9 x (No Feat Applicable) = 9 DMG The shot struck the kanad on his already-damaged helmet and knocked him unconscious and concussed. Enemy Incapacitated. Markus staggered a moment after getting the shot off, no doubt a bit pleased with himself at having nailed the commander with such a lax shot. Valkyrie caught him under the arm and assisted his movement as the Cerberus drone fired lightning bolts at the kanads, who still posed the greatest threat. Cerberus: {9, 4} x 2(Roboticist) = {18, 8} DMG The second kanad received a potent shock while the third received a lesser jolt. Both were more concerned for the health of their commander than they were for the escaping mercenaries. They finally ducked fully behind cover, avoiding further attacks. This was of little concern to Hariim, who had decided to focus on the human with the RPG. Using his implant to see through the smokescreen, he fired several slugs in his direction. Hariim: 6 x 1.5 x (No Feat Applicable) = 9 DMG The human had finished reloading his launcher and was waiting to catch sight of the enemy when he was struck in the upper leg by Hariim's attack. "Fuck!" he yelled as he dropped to the muddy ground, with no clue as to where exactly the shot had come from. He centered himself on his knees and fired a rocket blind into the smoke cloud, hoping to hit something. CH Estimate: 1/4 Actual: 1 Roll Failed. The rocket screeched through the air, flying straight over the crew's collective heads on its way to impact somewhere along the tunnel floor, blowing a small crater into the roadway but otherwise detonating harmlessly. Johannes, bringing up the rear and concerned about the longevity of the smokescreen, decided to leave behind his own form of concealment as they pushed onward. The icy fog denied even the kanads another chance to fire, as they could no longer read the crew's heat signatures through the wave of cold air. The crew slipped into the tunnel, with no opposition immediately present. --- Sylvia rolled her eyes at János. "Yeah, well what happens if they tell us 'that's okay, we don't need any help'?" Dio rolled his eyes at Sylvia. "What do you think?" he said with a sinister laugh. "'Alright then officer we'll just be on our way' -AHA!" he mocked, suddenly whipping a knife out of his sleeve and pretending to stab a man in the neck. "Contrary to what you might think," Sylvia replied, "you can't solve all of your problems by stabbing people." "Maybe you can't," Dio responded, "but it's worked pretty well for me so far." ((Sorry, I have to pause action here for now. I'm having trouble with my diabetes and I'll have to pick this up tomorrow.))
"Caine. We have new intel regarding the mission. Be advised, this approach will garner heavy resistance but we are in progress on trying to keep the black fleet at bay for as long as we can."
"Roger that. Proceeding on mission." replied Taylor, before switching to local team comms. "Change of plans. We proceed into the base, we find and access an elevator down to the AOPN terminal, and fire the missiles with the blast doors closed. That should detonate them inside their silos. Expect heavy resistance." She received the list of explosives that Mad and Johannes still had. "Roger on the explosives count. We might need them on the way down, or out at the airbase. Conserve them unless they're of dire need." She looked around a bit, taking in their environment. The tunnel was large, and mostly empty as it descended into the mountain. You could easily fit a pair of SDF tanks stacked atop one another in here. Sideways. Red lights flashed along the walls and ceiling, painting the concrete surrounding them a blood red color every few seconds as they cycled. It was surprisingly dry down here, compared to at the main gate where the acidic rain had turned the dirt to mud and slush. As for the enemy, no other forces had arrived yet from inside the base to support their comrades, so they had some time to move and get away from the Black Fleet soldiers. "Lets go." she said, motioning for them to follow as she started to jog down one of the walls of the tunnel. .... "Fuck, Markus, how much do you weigh?" asked Valkyrie with a chuckle, as she helped him along.
János turned towards Dio. "I already told you, we're doing this cleanly. No killing." He turned to Sylvia. "You have a point, but what else are we supposed to do? We can't say we're on behalf of Wave Galaxias, we'd probably be forced to show off some sort of proof. We can't say we're locals, because we don't look like it. We could say one of our friends is in the area and we'd like to see him, but then the police would get involved. "If they do refuse our offer for help, we'll just have to sneak past them and go forward. Otherwise, if anyone here has any non-violent ideas, now would be the best time you reveal them," he told the three.
Markus chuckled, "Ya don't ask a big man 'bout 'is weight, luv." He continued chuckling a bit more when thinking about what a shot he had just taken. Downing a guy while holding a high caliber rifle in a wounded hand ain't too shabby. Suddenly he felt Abraxas medicine kick in and his limping started to disappear, whatever that liquid was doing it was some good stuff. He stopped and slung his rifle over his shoulder and took out another pain-killer canister and pressed it to his mask. Once again he took a deep breath and shook his head slightly. He let out a muffled laugh from under his mask and slung the rifle back into his hands, taking out a fresh clip from one of his pouches and loaded it into the rifle. "A' roight, missy. The sooner we get out o' this fuckin base the better." he said as he and Valkyrie began catching up to the group down the tunnel.
((Sorry Sega. Not used to how you kids do roleplay these days. Back in my day it was a lot more structured, hyuk)) Johannes hoists Amy up on his shoulders, and uses some metal ice to secure her to his back so he's free to use his hands. It shouldn't give her any cold burns through her armor, and the weight isn't much regardless. At least this way, Abraxas is free to treat others. He follows the others in the tunnels, his rifle held at the ready. "I don't like how dry it is down here. Humidity is almost at zero percent. I can't strip any water out of the air. Luckily I still have..." Johannes pauses, presumably checking with his systems. "About ten gallons left. I can do one more fog spray and still retain combat effectiveness." [editline]23rd June 2016[/editline] ((Radley, is Markus "Roadhog"? Sega said "I want to alert you that you can actually bug out of this fight without my permission, as well as describe scenery and setting -within reason- without waiting on me." but back in the RP I'm used to, all that stuff only the GM did.
