Another kanad? Hardly surprising.
She? Now that is unexpected. Yuga looked back to the map showing the terrain
"I can tell from your stature and mentality that you weren't always a chef. Care to enlighten me?" she echoed while investigating possible paths for the away team.
"That obvious, huh? Well, it's no secret. You can probably look up my name in the more shady parts of the net and find me." He sat down in one of the empty chairs. "Used to work for another Kanad. Mr. Krasus. He owned an establishment on Duroma called The Pit. I spend around six or seven years fighting for money there."
Yugas eyes narrowed, "A fighting pit? The lowly rabbles gateway to fame and riches."
She glanced over at Alex, "However, your presence here at this point in time speaks volumes about your particular set of skills."
"Hey now. Kras ran a classy establishment. They actually mopped up the blood off the floor there." Alex said jokingly."But thank you for the compliment." He paused for a second. "What about you? What did you do before joining up with us?"
Yuga took out her compass and opened it up, replacing the burnt incense with a fresh one.
"I was a navigator, working on merchant ship from the imperial trade consortium within his majesty's starfleet" she explained calmly. She released some vapors from the compass and absorbed them.
She put the compass away and started walking around the holotable with her arms behind her back.
"When my skills for trading proved superior to that of my Captain, the ITC decided that he was no longer needed on that vessel, my vessel."
Yuga always loved telling that part, if she had had a mouth it would have curled into a smug smirk.
"I was then employed as the captain and navigator of my own ship, the HMSS Yukaya. I continued for 5 years before resigning, and now I'm here." she explained, turning to face Alex at the last sentence.
"Why did you resign? Things got too boring? I mean you obviously had things under lock by the sound of it. Why start from square one?"
Vakarus suddenly entered bridge after having observed the area outside. "Alex'vakrin, Yuga'ayrin." He said while nodding to them.
He then sat down at the weapons console and made sure all shipboard weapons and defense systems were active.
"Because I was bound by too many rules. Commerce is commerce and you're missing out on possible profits if you deny it simply because there are specific guidelines."
Yuga looks to the map again. "It was simply bad business. And now with no restrictions I can start accumulating more wealth and influence than I ever could in the ITC."
As Vakarus entered, Yuga simply nodded to him. Vakarus walked over to the weapons console.
"I trust you have something to report about the surrounding terrain?" she communicated with him while focusing on the terrain map in front of her.
"The imminent area is clear of any opponents aside from a small group of police officers. Rask'atvan and the rest are preparing to make a move on the, Yuga'ayrin." Said Vakarus.
Alex nodded to Vakarus before he spoke. "Makes sense. Too many restrictions get in the way. You guys seem to be busy, so I'll get out of your way." He said and left the Bridge.
"Let us just hope Rask has formulated somewhat of a plan."
Yuga looked out of the observation ports out over the landscape.
"Fortunately for me, I have made sure not to tie myself into anything illegal just yet, and returning to Ayr if things go south shouldn't be a problem since we are already in Collective space."
Vakarus grunted. "I was under the impression that the Ayr were not the kind to leave brothers and sisters just to save their own skin."
-snip
((Whops, wrong location))
((You do know Vakarus and Yuga are on the ship, right?))
Yuga turned to Vakarus with a deadpan expression.
"I was employed by this company yesterday and that is also how long I have known everyone on this ship. It doesn't bode well when your boss has vanished during your first day." she explained.
"Perhaps for mercenaries, loyalty is something that can be bought but I usually prefer someone to deserve my loyalty before making commitments.
For example, if things go badly I'm in an utmost position to cut my loses with you and find more appropriate endeavors elsewhere."
Yuga stopped briefly, her eyes forming into a smug squint, "Disposing myself of a bad investment, if you like."
((Okie dokie I'm awake and ready to kill some peeps))
Vakarus grunted. "Maybe it is a matter of perspective then. When I first met Yanim'atvan she had no reason to include me in her warhost. Yet she did. Two years has since passed."
"Perhaps she took you in for trial, or to bolster the ranks? In those cases it looks like it payed of for her, seeing as your still in her employment."
Yuga lifted her hat and stroked her shoulder long hair back.
"If anything this could be a great opportunity to evaluate my crew members skills and abilities."
She looked at Vakarus "If they are satisfactory maybe I can start making exceptions for the so called brothers and sisters."
As Jag marched through the fields and hill side, it's the tentacles rapidly stabbing into and out of the ground to not get stuck into the lose dirt. Feelings of familiarly entered it's mind.
The landscape, the job, the crew. It felt like an retread of old mission along time ago. An time where itself was the acting captain of it's vessel and where it learned that an plan that had no room for failure was already a failed plan.
The Sanghvi nevertheless put it's past behind it and carried with it's job as told, watching it's surroundings closely and it's fellow freelancer closer.
Because whatever how much they say there ready, they really ain't. Through, Jag has hope that she'll do fine and won't break like so many others that Jag had the misfortune of running with.
"Police," Rask said with a genuine smile. This played into one of his "better" hypothetical scenarios. Creeping forward on his hands and knees, he peered over the edge, quickly spotting a trio of tetrian police officers performing a similar stakeout of the plains beyond. He motioned for Jag and Taylor to join him at the edge, holding three fingers up. Clearly, he intended for each to set sights on a target so that they could be neutralized simultaneously
"Affirmative." The Sanghvi respond in an low voice as it creep towards an better shirking position at the edge, lowering it's body close to the ground as it watched the tetrians move about.
Amelia takes cover, crouching, a few meters behind the front line where Rask, Jag, and Taylor were. She twirls her gun with a single finger, patiently waiting for another signal.
Abrax shook his head as the others attempted to find their positions to fire upon the targets. He focused on them and aimed with the Annabelle. Though he wondered what else would occur in the forest. He hoped the others inside would contact them in case worst case scenarios happened.
Vakarus didn't feel like he could contribute anything more for the conversation and decided to focus on the console infront of him.
All the primary and secondary weapon systems were active. Additionally, a hidden point-defense turret mounted above the ramp for coverage during quick landings or escapes was also active.
Hopefully he wouldn't have to use any of them, but then again, he was a warrior after all.
Jag had listened to Rask's directions and replied, "Affirmative." He back up from the edge and prepared to sprint, targeting the officer on the left. The shooters lining the ridge noted his intent and focused on the other two officers to avoid hitting Jag.
"Waiting on your go," Silvia informed. She had quietly caught up to the rest of the group by flight. Her sights were set on the right-side officer, along with Taylor.
"Target in crosshairs, firing on your mark," Taylor added.
Amelia and Abraxus took up positions in the middle, flanking Rask. Altogether this brought the total number of guns on target to five, plus one melee attack planned. Rask counted down at barely a whisper, as well as on his raised fingers, to ensure that the ambush would occur in sync. "Three, two, one..." He lowered his hand to the receiver and all together, shots rang out.
Rask: 7 x Malevolence(x2) = 14 DMG
The plasma shot of Rask's OBV rifle impacted the middle police officer in the shoulder, instantly creating a deep, severe burn.
Taylor: 6 x Versatility(CH1/4: 3, Failed, x1) = 6 DMG
The bullet from Taylor's rifle struck the right officer's arm, creating a bloody gash.
Silvia: 1 x Airmobile(x1.5) = 1.5... 2 DMG
Silvia's shot was off the mark, with the plasma hitting the ground just right of the crouching right officer's foot, hitting him with splash and gravel.
Jag: 2 x Dismemberment(CH1/2: 2, Passed, x2) = 4 DMG
Gliding through the air like a dart, Jag arrived at the left-side officer just after the shots had rung out. Somehow, the man had reacted to the sound of gunfire just in time to avoid being impaled by one of Jag's arms. Instead, the sanghvi's appendage caused only a cut across the officer's left side as he rolled away.
Amelia: 7 x Precision(DMG at or above seven: Passed, CH1/2: 1, Failed, x1) = 7 DMG
Amelia's X-2 hit the middle officer square in the back. After the two hits, he let out a agonized scream and fell forward, struggling to protect himself from the unknown attackers. He flipped over on the dusty ground and readied his own pistol while the right-side officer did the same.
Abraxas:
CH Estimate: 7/10
Actual: 5
Roll Passed.
Before the middle officer could even steady his hand, a dart containing a knockout gas hit him in his chest and laid him out, unconscious.
Enemy Neutralized.
Left Officer: 3 x (No Feat Applicable) = 3
Jag: DEF = 5
No Damage.
The terrified left-side officer lashes out at the sanghvi, swinging hard with his pistol but missing Jag completely.
Right Officer: 9 x Sporting(x1.5) = 13.5... 14
Silvia: DEF = 5
9 DMG
Sylvia HP: 41
The right-side officer, clutching his wounded arm, spins around toward the forested ridge and immediately spots Silvia in the air. He quickly squeezes off a shot which pierces one of her wings in a puff of blood and feathers.
New racial feat learned: Tetrian Sporting (1.5x DMG against aerial targets)
"Shit. Winged him." muttered Taylor, as she raised up into a modified sitting position with her rifle. She propped it against her knee, and peered down the iron sights at the right officer once more. She flipped the rifle to automatic, then squeezed off a rapid three round burst on the target. Gotta take him down before he shoots anyone else.
Abrax saw the Right Officer shot one of the crew members going by the name of Sylvia. He stayed where he was and aimed at the Left Officer, he didn't want to waste a dart if another member was going to use lethal force.
As Jag gazed the target, it cursed itself as it should have dealt an far more serious wound. It briefly doubting it's abilities after last year.
Nevertheless, the Sanghvi refocused on the matter at hand and went for another shrike at the left soft-carbon. This time aiming for the arm holding the pistol.
"Gah! Fucking...Jesus that hurts!" Silvia winced as she immediately flew back onto the ground. Looks like the aerial approach is out for the time being.
Taylor: 6 x Versatility (CH1/4: 2, Failed, x1) = 6 DMG
This time the burst of rounds nearly decapitated the tetrian officer, but was narrowly off the mark. One round tore through the right-side officer's ear and cheek, inflicting severe pain.
Right Officer: 5 x (No Feat Applicable) = 5
Taylor: DEF = 5
No Damage
The right officer, having lost sight of Silvia after hitting her moments earlier, now notices Taylor in a more subtle position. He straightens up and fires, but misses.
Abraxas:
CH Estimate: 2/5
Actual: 4
Roll Passed.
Abraxas wasted no time picking a second target, selecting the officer on the left on the assumption that he was less likely to be killed in the next few seconds. He fired a dart which narrowly missed Jag en route to tagging the officer in the hip. He suddenly staggered backward and collapsed into a heap.
Enemy Neutralized.
Jag: Attack invalidated.
Jag raised an appendage to deal another strike on the tetrian when a dart impacted the officer's hip with an audible "thunk." The sanghvi restrained himself as a look came over the left officer's eyes. It seems violence against this one was no longer necessary.
Yuga observed the map as the dots began to move. She looked at Vakarus.
"You're missing you que, warrior."
Two down, one to go. And he's just doesn't want to die. Taylor aims once more, then fires off two bursts. Hopefully this fucker will go down.
