Yuga steadied herself as Owen put the hammer down.
After the ship had reached a cruising speed and speed of into space she righted herself and took her hat off to sweep back her hair.
She put the hat back on and corrected its posture. "When I say I'd take responsibility I meant for our unauthorized departue, not reckless driving." Yuga conveyed to Owen.
"You're a skillful pilot put you lack discipline, and I hope you realized that following directives is to a certain degree your job on this vessel."
Yuga looked up at Jag who had been quietly observing the bridge. She took out the compass and activated the transmiter, "Do you have any specifics to report about the mission, and do you know what Ms. Terika is up to currently?" it sounded with her metallic voice from the compass.
The sudden movement of the ship had nearly knocked Alex of his feet but he regained balance. He proceeded to answer the question. "Strongest one we have. 'Kroghtovron'. Means cleansing on Boome."
Jag took an sight turn towards the Ayr, looking over it's shoulder at the soft-carbon. Asking with it's translator.
"To report? Nothing in particular to say, besides that of Enforcer Angelo injures. Everything went quite better then I had predicted." Jag said as it turned it's glaze onto the visual display of the starmap.
"And Employer Terika...Well, there's nothing to really say. I don't know much about her myself." Jag comment, using it's implant to interface with the map to zoom in on this Gorgon world to inspect it further.
Ahaz looks at his watch. "I ate it about, what, a minute ago? I'm probably going to feel the effects in about five minutes. Last call everyone! Thanks to Alex, I won't be able to man the bar for a good while thanks to having to shit my guts out." Ahaz starts locking up.
"Present the Reich!" A voice demanded as two rows of band parties stood side by side and extended their arms, showing their instruments. Few seconds later they blew their instruments as the sounds of drumming and playing occurered. About a dozen of infantrymen marched along the trail, laser rifles held by their shoulders and continued to do so until they met their CO. Abrax paced along with his comrades, being at the age of 83 yet still young by Malmarian standards. This would be his last parade until he had the permission to take his leave out of the Heer. He marched with his rifle held by his shoulder, proud and decicated to his Monarchy.
...
As the night grew wider Abrax wiped his forehead using his sleeve, respirator off his pale face, leaning on a nearby wall as his comrades packed up. No one he saw in familar, he parted ways by waving. He sighed and walked along the pavement as a mechanical clock struck twice above the building he formerly leaned on. Meanwhile as he walked he turned to see a familar soldier in uniform. One red striped was painted on top of the helmet this person was wearing. The soldier followed beside him and waved.
"How you're doing Abrax?" She asked him, tearing off her respirator and helmet to show her perky nose and traces of blonde hair compressed from that headwear. He made an urge to gaze at her as her reassuring smile gave him hope. He exhaled through his nostrils and curved his lips. "Swell, Anna. You?"
Anna looked up at the two moons orbiting Malmar and smiled. "I'll be leaving the Heer and work at the Industrial Pits as a manager." Abrax nearly lightened his face, almost turning the 90th degree when she said that. "Really? Well, this was also supposed to be my last parade so I..didn't know this would be yours too." He admitted.
"Well that's good. So, what will you be doing after the Heer?" Anna asked. Abrax smiled and sighed. "Work as an Apothecary. I already have a small house to run and I'm already studying medicine so that's my best bet." He waggered around as migrants went to their homes, soon becoming just the two walking. The thoughts of meeting each other again was rather heartwarming to Abrax.
"Combat medic. That's right, I'm sure you'll put that to good use. So like you're gonna apply to a clinical company?"
"Well, I can't say. I could go freelance."
"You got plenty of time Abrax, we live out for hundreds of years right?" She giggled pushing him by shoulder and faced each other. They wondered what were they doing out in the streets at this night. Abrax chuckled and facepalmed. "This is so silly. I need to go home." Anna laughed, placing her hand on her mouth. "You're right. I shouldn't be out here."
Then an idea brought to mind.
"Want to come to my place?" Abrax asked.
"Your place? But, I need permission from Father." Anna frowned avoiding eye contact Abrax widend his eyes and folded his arms. "Wait, you're still living at their house? Aren't you 79?"
"Well, yeah. I really don't have the money to buy a house and you know it's frowned upon to buy an apartment."
"So? You're not related to the Count." Her face quickly went stoic and spoke as if he was kidding. Abrax cringed and scratched his head. "Umm, look I meant to say that there's no shame in being middle class. I used to be low class Anna, I fought my way and picked my own story for myself. Well, sort of. Because, drafting and all." He explained making a fist. Anna urged a grin and shook her head.
"Look, Anna." He said, looking at her eyes. Sparking with the wonders and positives of Malmar. "You're your own person. Be proud of that..." Anna looked down for a mere moment after Abrax told her to take pride in what she was and where she came from. Not from the Count, not from royalty, but the middle class. The ones who possibly have more conflict within all of the world. Anna looked up into Abrax and stopped dead in her tracks.
"I will Abrax. Thank you."
...
Abrax took off his gloves and observed Sylvia. Finishing the work and the paperwork filed out. He had no idea when she might wake up, or if she ever will. He parted away his coat on the racket and went out of the Labs, leaving the light on for good measure. He went to the Bar and ignored everyone there. Pulling out his notebook and writing his thoughts for the day.
((All right I've got a work interview tomorrow so I really need to go to bed. Sega and Viper have control over Yuga tonight))
Amelia, shocked, turns towards Alex. Her face shows suprise and gratitude. "You're awesome, big guy," she compliments as she throws a friendly, light punch at Alex's shoulder. She then gets up from the counter, hears Ahaz's announcement, then says, "Rest in peace, your butt. Heheh." She giggles.
Amelia looks back at Alex for a moment, grins, then walks out of the bar. She enters her room, but keeps the door open. Just in case anyone wants to talk to her for any or no reason in particular.
She takes out a book and reads away, after playing "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede on her stereo, echoing into the halls.
Two years ago...
"What the hell are you listening to?" crackled through Taylor's radio into her helmet. "Tank Venatra, why?" she responded. She glanced over towards her fellow soldier, her head turning ever so slightly. "Wow, that's some old shit." said the soldier, a hint of laughter in her voice. Taylor chuckled. "I like the classics."
"Right...well, what's on the schedule for today?" asked the soldier, as she finally finished getting into her EHE suit. Taylor had already put hers on, and was waiting nearby. "Well, we've got two patrols up on the surface, and some guard time at shipping & receiving. Command is expecting those pirates to show back up again sometime soon, so they want us to be prepared this time."
"Ah. Hopefully that one pirate doesn't show up with a fucking RAM launcher like last time. I swear, that girl has it out for you, Taylor."
"Yeah. I barely dodged that rocket. Did you see the size of that hole it made in that shuttle craft?"
"Mhm. High explosive. Would have turned you to mush inside that suit."
"Yeah..." muttered Taylor, as she looked down at her suit. This suit wasn't equipped with shock absorbers, as it wasn't military grade. Barely any armor. Just made to protect from the hellish temperatures up top. "Well, lets go. The others should be suited up by now. Grab your rifle." she continued finally, as she stood. The soldier nodded, grabbing her rifle next to her and standing. Taylor grabbed her own rifle, and they proceeded out the door and down the tight hallway. One more week of this. One more week, then her service was up. She was still debating on reenlisting, even after getting that message from Command about the SSFD's inquiries about her. She'd probably get stuck fighting Crimson Son somewhere, knowing the shit that went down on Zeruel a few days ago.
As she stepped out onto the scorched reddish/black surface of Pyri II, she took a breath. She'd mull over that stuff later. Right now, she had patrols to worry about.
...
Taylor returned to her room, passing Amelia's room which was blaring some kind of music out into the hall. She loved older music, but that was REALLY old. Once there, she slipped her revolver under her pillow, before returning to the main tunnel. Maybe she'd get to properly meet her employer now.
The ship ascended through the atmosphere, alerting every radar surrounding the city of Edna of the Black Fleet's failure to stop the Muramasa. At that very moment, a frigate and three corvettes had been dispatched to down the rogue vessel, but it was no use. The Terika-Belladonna Company's twice-rebuilt craft was built for speed, and had a secret which no mass-produced ship could match.
Feeling the rumble of the ship's acceleration, Yanim reemerged from her quarters and entered the bridge. She had equipped herself with a strange device which she referred to as her "tail," and as she entered Yuga was first to notice that Yanim was equipped with a cybernetic implant. A small metallic hub at the base of her skull was connected by cable to a computer pack mounted on her back, and below, the hydraulic system which controlled the tail device. A long, articulating tube trailed from it, which terminated in a three-pronged grasping claw. In the center of the claw was a set of swappable interface plugs, and a blade was welded prominently onto one of the prongs.
Following in Yanim's footsteps was a robotic companion which had been previously locked in her quarters. Skada, modeled on the Terran arctic fox, was a curious creature which eagerly explored the bridge and investigated the new crewmembers. Its synthetic fur shimmered with pastel colors under the light of the instrumentation, and it vocalized its programmed enthusiasm with a melodic yip. Yanim took her seat at the captain's chair and plugged her tail into the dataport which sat beneath it. Instantly, she was updated on the names and faces of the crew, the combat which had taken place against the Black Fleet, and the general status of the ship.
"Owen," she said as the ship's radar began to pick up hostiles closing on the ship, "engage the warpdrive."
Yuga and Owen hesitated for a moment, unsure if they had properly heard the order. Neasha, Rask, and Vakarus all exchanged knowing glances, amused at the confusion. It was well known that typical starships could not go to warp while still within a planet's atmosphere. On some craft, in fact, it could completely destroy the warpdrive, crippling the vehicle and forcing emergency repairs.
"The warpdrive?" Owen asked, seeking confirmation.
"Yes," Yanim replied, flatly. "Do it."
Owen flipped the toggle switch engaging the warp computer, which was updated with information from Yuga's navigation station. The Muramasa was primed to warp to the closest moon.
"Yanim'atvan, the enemy approaches," Vakarus warned as the Black Fleet ships closed to within long-range ATA missile range. Yanim nodded in acknowledgement. Owen pushed the throttle forward into the warp speed position and then waited for the indicator light to turn green. As soon as it did, he twisted the throttle handle until it locked into place with a twang. Warning lights appeared as the system came fully online, and a projection containing Kanad language text appeared on the frontal window. There was a thump, a rattle, and then-
The ship went to warp. The atmosphere, a subtle blanket of grey over top of the brilliance of the stars outside, melted away in a hypnotic blur. Seconds after the initial leap, the throttle popped loose from its locked position automatically, back into Owen's palm. The ship had reached its destination. Neasha grinned slyly at the new crewmembers' reactions. "Boss personally attended to that feature when we rebuilt the engines," she explained.
"Well done. Now that we're away from the Batakya, let's discuss what just happened," Yanim said, staring into the stars ahead as she considered how to explain the near-disaster of the Itara mission.

((All active players: Please send me a PM containing your tech choice for leveling up, HP, ATK, or DEF. I will be writing a large out of character post to discuss the state of the game as well as key rule changes, and Chapter 1 will begin after that.))
[Starpath Progress Notes]
This entire post is out of character.
I'm thrilled with how the game is going so far. We broke 500 posts within 6 days of the game starting, and even though we had a bit of a lull in the middle of our prologue chapter, things seem to be picking up again. I'm hoping to break 1000 within the first month. That being said, this game is about quality, rather than quantity, and seeing the new combat system in motion has been a joy. That being said, I'm sure you've all noticed that enemies were fairly weak. That was intentional, and in our first real chapter, the training wheels are coming off.
First, there's the DEF tech stat. In the prologue, it was treated as a fixed value. That won't be the case anymore, since, from here on, it will be a maximum value of a roll. Each additional level in DEF will result in an increase of 2 to the max value. That means you'll defend a portion of the damage dealt by the enemy between 1 and your maximum each time you're attacked. If you were to put all your stats into DEF by Chapter 5, you would have a 33% chance of taking 0 DMG from an enemy roll of 10 or below.
If you plan on upgrading your ATK stat, that's a slightly different matter. ATK increases by .25 each time you level it, and acts as a DMG multiplier to each attack you roll. If you were to put all of your stats into ATK by the time we reach Chapter 4, you would deal double damage on every DMG roll you perform.
HP is an exponential stat. Each time you increase it, it multiplies your current HP by 1.25. For a human, this means level 1 will increase your health to 125, an increase of 25. Level 2, 156, an increase of 31.
You've probably also noticed that NPC characters do not have personal feats. This will continue to be the case, as I cannot be expected to give each enemy unique properties. Enemy characters also will not have tech stats. To make them more difficult, I will simply increase their HP as the game goes on, requiring more or better rolls to kill or incapacitate them. However, I do intend to introduce, beginning with Chapter 1, Faction Feats, which are feats that apply to all enemies of a given faction. That should strike a balance between ease of use and challenge.
Outside of combat, I was somewhat disappointed that our engineering characters chose not to play a role in the prologue chapter. If they had been following the thread, they would have noticed that I gave several opportunities to them to make a difference during combat. So, in order to improve our crew balance, some of you already know that I'm allowing existing players to bring in second characters.
The golden rule to secondary characters is this: if you have a combat character (mercenary or security), your second character must be noncombat (science or engineering). For the sake of fairness, this rule also works in reverse- if you are a science or engineering character who wants to have a combat character as well, you are allowed to do this. Please feel free to post character pages in the thread following this post.
As to the storyline: I promised everyone that this game would have an open-ended plot. And even though the Prologue has been heavily structured, I plan on easing up in Chapter 1 and allowing for player independence and exploration. There are a few key events that still need to happen to set the game up, and they should be finished by the start of Chapter 2.
If any of you are wondering, Sledge was supposed to be introduced to the game at the beginning of Chapter 1. In fact, Chapter 1 was originally envisioned as an opportunity for Bathacker to resolve his own plot thread from the first game, which he never got the chance to do. We planned this out months ahead of time, but unfortunately it seems as though things are not going to go as planned. Bathacker is angry about something I said last Sunday and is currently not speaking with me. For this reason, we may be forced to move on without him.
I appreciate all the support and interest this game has gotten, and I'm really looking forward to creating new worlds for you all to explore in the coming months ahead. If there are any questions you'd like to ask me out of character before we move on, feel free to post them now. I'll probably start Chapter 1 sometime in the evening on Thursday, going by EST.
[Sorry to hear about Bathacker.]

(180cm, 90kg. Strong build.)
Birthdate: 2345 (40 years old)
Race: Human
Profession: Armorer, Weapon Smith
Bio: Former combat-engineer within the SDF auxiliaries, Maddox grew up on a neighbour colony called Novithus prized for its high-quality metal construction.
By the age of eight he knew how to use over a hundred different tools, something which played a key role later on in his life when Novithus was the victim of a organized raiding campaign conducted by a large group of pirates.
Being twenty at the time, he volunteered to the SDF auxiliaries alongside most novithians to defend their homes. During the defense Maddox was tasked with the maintenance and reparations of weapons, armor and even vehicles due to his already extensive knowledge.
Skip ahead a few years and Maddox had traveled a good portion of the galaxy, exchanging his knowledge with others of his trade to learn even more.
Looking for his next big gig he replied to a offer given by the Terika-Belladonna Company.
Special Skills or Attributes: Extended knowledge on how to create, manufacture and maintain weapons and armor of varying types and sizes.
(Characters who use a weapon manufactured by Maddox gets bonus damage.)
Name: Valencia 'Valkyrie' Blackwell

Physical Description: 5'7", Fit
Birthdate: June 6th, 2360 (25 years old)
Race: Human
Profession: Engineer/Technician
Bio:
Valencia 'Valkyrie' Blackwell was born in space. Well, not LITERALLY in space. She was born on an old freighter, controlled by a small band of pirates that had broken away from one of the larger groups outside human space. She was raised as a pirate, till both of her parents were killed by SDF soldiers. That'd put a big kink in her life of piracy. She was taken and put into an orphanage on Terra, where she lived miserably till she was old enough to escape and venture out into the universe. She returned to the life of piracy, joining up with a small roving gang that just happened to love targeting the mining colonies on Pyri II. Every so often brawling with the SDF, including one particular soldier whom she grew to despise. As she grew older, she started to see that the pirate life didn't exactly pay well, especially here in human space, so she decided to offer her services as a merc on occasion.
Two years have passed since Valkyrie began doing mercenary work, and now she's found another job. Working for the the Terika-Belladonna Company.
Special Skills & Attributes:
Valkyrie is a natural engineer, having spent most of her childhood working on the freighter with her mother and father. Bearing a photographic memory and extensive mechanical/electrical knowledge, she's able to repair virtually anything and everything, even under fire. Most of her time, though, is spent on combat mechs and the like. She loves building robots to do her bidding. Need a walking/rolling/flying death machine? She's your gal.
[Heading to bed for the night. Wanted to post this before I did.]

Standing roughly 6'4" tall and weighing 213 pounds, Markus is a sturdy figure.
Though not exceptionally agile, Markus possesses impressive physical toughness and strength.
Birthdate: August 6th 2350. (35)
Race: Human
Profession: Mercenary
Bio: Markus was born in a logging colony on the forest moon of Folter orbiting Germania.
Markus finished the obligatory education with poor grades, due to him have a violent nature which often got him into trouble.
After graduating he enlisted in the Ranger Corps, a military organization that scouted potential logging locations and kept native wildlife at bay.
This was a job Markus became very good at, his temperament and personality well suited for it. While a ranger, Markus learned tracking, survival techniques,
ambushing as well as becoming skilled with his firearm, the KA-300 semi-automatic rifle.
After a criminal incident that left a squad of SDF recruits dead, Markus and a few other rangers were sent to Vorago, a corporately owned prison planet.
In 2380 a prison riot occured and the convicts took over the prison as well as the planet.
With the Planet outside of SDF area of interest and under their control, the outlaws set up a spaceport that didn't adhere to any galactic government.
Markus was a part of the Dagger Marauders and worked as a gameskeeper and a huntsman, often taking wealthy crimelords out to big game hunts in the Vorago wilds.
Need a guy with a simple mindset and a weird mix of rifling finesse and primal savagery? Markus has got you covered.
Another hole was punched into the engine compartment on the Muramasa, this time causing a loss of thrust vectoring which caused the ship to list uncomfortably to the left.
Since no one from engineering was replying to direct requests or even remarking on the damage the ship was taking, I began referring to them as if they were NPCs.
While the engineers aboard the Muramasa struggled to re-arm the final missile and identify the type of ECMs employed against the previous volley...
...At this point, neither ship was prepared to fire, and the Vokoba broke away momentarily to give its engineers a chance to reload the missile bays. Onboard the Muramasa, Bucky confirmed over the comm that the final missile had been fixed and was ready for firing.
At that point, it would have been possible to jump back in by providing details to some of the vague actions I had attributed to the engineering characters. In fact, had someone stepped in and refilled those missile tubes, then it might have been possible to shoot down the Vokoba.
You're new to this, so it's understandable that you missed your cues, but if you'd like to be involved in the future you're going to need to take some initiative to be descriptive whenever you see the ship getting damaged or requests being made for details about its mechanical status.

"Charges set. Just say when and we start the distraction."
Archangel stood on the edge of the roof. Rope in hand ready to descend. "Good Vulture 5, get clear and await my signal. If we're lucky Arenax will tell us everything without the need for that." He looked at the rest of his team. "Vultures 2, 3 with me. 1 and 4 stay here and make sure nobody messes with the ropes."
The team started descenting down the side of the building until they reached the 91st floor. The night allowed for them to move without being spotted. They could see the Helix corp CEO filling out paperwork. Several guards standing in the room. "Looks like the attacks made him a bit paranoid. What do we do now?"
"We breach. Vulture 1 already took care of the silent alarm. Put on the silencers and go on my command." After a few seconds the three men were in position and ready. "Three, two, one..." The glass shattered as they shot through the glass. The guards fell on the floor dead or bleeding to death. Arenax Seventhian stood at his desk. No fear or worry on his face. Not even a hint of distress. Just a blank expression. He took a deep sigh. "Not again."
Archangel walked up to the desk and started to speak. "Mr. Seventhian. I want to talk."
"And you couldn't schedule a meeting because?"
"I'm a busy man and am on the clock. I wanted to ask you about a meeting you had two years ago and two other events."
"Do you know how many meeting I have just in one month? What will make this one stand out?"
"Screecher queen. That contract. Who were the men that fulfilled the contract?"
Arenax looked at him as if he had just grown a second head in front of him. "Are you really asking me about a standard procedure contract we make several times a year? Mercs that fulfill them are a too many to count. I can't remember every single one."
"One of those who did gave you a card. He wasn't a Gold dust."
"Oh, yes. I remember one giving me a card, but I don't know anything else."
"You're lying."
"How do you know?"
"I just do." Archangel reached and grabbed Arenax by the collar and lifted him up. He carried the CEO to the broken window. "Take a look at something Arenax." He started to dangle the draconican outside the window. "How's the fresh air?"
"You wont drop me. I have what you need." Archangel tossed him back inside. "Gahah, see you don't have the balls to do it."
"No, but I have the balls to cripple your company. Vulture 5, prepare to blow the charges." An explosion could be heard outside the building as the parked cars and other vehicles were obliterated in the parking lot. "That was just a taste. The rest are wired to gas lines leading to your nearby factory. I'm sure you'll love to explain the PR nightmare to the locals as your incompetence caused the death of countless families and environmental damage. Blame it on terrorists all you want, end result is you loosing your money. Now I'm going to start saying the code to arm the bombs. Six words. You have until then to start talking. Siera, Hotel, India, Echo, Lima, De..."
"I don't know, you fucking psychopaths! I have no memory of anything you want. The only attack I can remember is that fucking robot and the dwarf coming here to threaten me."
Archangel looked at him. After a few seconds he spoke. "You're telling the truth. Which means the Sun did their work on you."
"Who? The Sun? The Crimson fucking Sun? What do they have to do with anything?"
"The Sun's head goons "The Auditors" attacked you two years ago. For what, we don't know. We do know that there is a significant chunk of your security footage missing the same day. We also know that what information you told them had something to do with the Archius Crew. That's why the "fucking robot and dwarf" threatened you. Because of what you said to the Auditors, lead to a few unfortunate deaths. Namely, the captain and several crew members. But you don't remember. And you're not lying about that. Educated guess is that they mind wiped you. It can come back, but that requires shock therapy and we don't have the time."
"You knew all that and you still came here. Why?"
"I was curious. I wanted to see if you had anything to piece together this Oracle puzzle my employer is so interested in."
Aranax was furious "You did all this to satisfy your fucking curiosity?"
"Yes. Now we'll take our leave. Take you for your time Mr. Seventhian." Archangel smacked Aranax with the power fist, knocking him out. "Lets go."
"Did we really plant explosives on the pipes?"
"No, I was bluffing. Come on. We need to reach Gadon soon."
