Markus shuffled a bit, "Zeruel? That big shabang a few years back? What I know bout it it seemed like a huge cluster fuck of armies, merc, pirates and all for nothin when the planet was blown to hell." he peaked slightly towards Maddox, "If the boss was there I makes her OK in my book, people who where on the ground and made it out generally have a reputation for being hard as nails, mentally damaged or both".
Maddox nodded as he took another bite. "No doubt about it."
He looked at the Muramasa which looked quite peaceful at the dock. "Although it does make you curious to what happened down there since so few wants to talk about it."
"Here to watch the grease monkeys work their magic?"
"You could say so," János replied.
"Damn fine work." said Valkyrie, as she watched Bucky work. Major mechanical and defensive improvements, calibrated and fine tuned to perfection. Next up would be the biometrics and such. "As soon as we finish this, we should head out and tune up the racer. The combat mech can wait till afterwards." she said, as she glanced up and saw that János had arrived and was watching them. "Here to watch the grease monkeys work their magic?" she asked, as she looked the suit's helmet over.
Bucky finishes up her work and sets her tools back into their box. Curiously, there are no screwdrivers or hex keys. The reason why is made perfectly clear when Bucky begins apparently driving screws into their places by simply touching them with her fingertips. She notes her crewmate's confused expressions and giggles, and then explains: "My endoskeleton is sheathed in programmable matter, I can use it to change how I look a bit, or I can use it to drive screws and nuts and bolts. Comes in handy!"
She smiles at John and says: "Sorry, bub. You're gonna have to follow me and Valk around while we change out some anti-friction field emitters." While she hands Valkyrie the suit's helmet and wirelessly activates the biometric sensors and systems within while Valkyrie gets into the actual suit.
Markus shrugged and looked at Maddox, "the way I figure, it ain't off no benefit to me to know that kinda stuff."
He turned back towards the muramasa and lifted his rifle up to rest it on the ledge of the balcony.
"But yeah, a curiosity ain't never killed nobody. A little dirt is always fun to dig up."
Valkyrie put on the suit, slipping the helmet on last and securing it. The internal padding, a shape-shifting gel-like substance, conformed to her body and hardened. Applying pressure where it needed to, and molding itself to her shape. "Heh, really nice fit." said Valkyrie, her voice sounding through the helmet's external speaker. The visor in the helmet switched on, and displayed a nice blue HUD as well as an ultra high definition view of everything in front of her.
"So far, everything checks out." said Valkyrie, as she moved her arms and legs.
"Sorry, bub. You're gonna have to follow me and Valk around while we change out some anti-friction field emitters."
János shrugged in response. He didn't really mind following Bucky around. He thought up how he was going to train her in the ways of firing plasma, laser and kinetic pistols, though the question of where the mining vessel's emblem comes from pops in his head continuously.
Alex listened to Sledge telling his story. He had seen some crazy shit in his time, but Sledge just took it. "You know, I though I've seen some crazy shit, but you are something else, man." He noticed Taylor was feeling a bit down. "Everything ok with you?"
"Everything ok with you?"
Taylor looked up, and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking about the race." she said. The SDF guys following them were probably Spec-Ops if they were staying in the shadows. She might have been one of them if she had stayed with the SDF. Apparently her performance had gained the attention of someone up the chain of command, and they formally asked her to join literally a week before her service ended. Of course, she declined. She wondered if they still kept an eye on her. Some of her older merc jobs were rather public, so of course she was bound to have been noticed.
Jag looked on as Sledge explained his history to the rest of the group while they ate. Jag refrain from eating of course, due to the lack having a digestive system.
The Sanghvi found the soft-carbon's story highly implausible but could tell from he was in fact telling the truth.
The intercom massage was very interesting for Jag, as both parties have had a very...Colorful history with Jag. Feeling very indifferent to hurting or maiming any of them.
Because for Jag, it was just another thing in the way of a good pay check.
Bucky tries to work the same magic she worked on the rest of the suit, and with Valkyrie's help, she begins tuning and refining the biometric and life support functions of the suit. Her deft hands work at settings, mechanisms, and controls. [Roll to make the suit's biometric and life support systems work better]
"That's good! Oh, brother; the hardware for this life support system is great, but the drivers that tie it in to the core processing block sucks. I'm not touchin' that crap." She says as she works, her eyes focusing on the intricate mechanisms that make up the all-in-one life support and bio-diagnostic unit.
Hariim listens to Sledge explain, and seems quite interested. "Dayum, son! You're tellin' me that you got yourself a nano-hive keepin' your bits all together? That's some crazy high-tech stuff man!"
A scrawny man in rags suddenly appeared, approaching the Muramasa. His eyes darted nervously as he approached the ship.
He managed to locate the control panel next to the cargo door and clicked a button.
"Delivery to a Mr. Korinov? Kovinov? Korunov?" He said nervously.
-----
Vakarus, who had returned to the bridge, raised an eyebrow.
"Alex'vakrin, there appears to be another delivery for you." He said over the comms channel.
-----
Maddox fixed his gaze on the man approaching the Muramasa while tapping Koval on the shoulder. "Take a look at this."
"Oh what now?" He looked at the rest of the crew seated. "Anyone want to help me beat up a delivery man?" He said as he went to get he package.
1 hour before.
Frosty entered a store in the shopping district which looked like it sold old equipment and armor. Uniforms on hangers lined the inside, mannequins dressed in armor were placed here and there, and in the center were piles of equipment. There was one mannequin which drew Frosty's attention. He was completely hypnotized by it. He couldn't shake his vision from it. It had some rather old looking outfit on it, especially when compared to the other armors and uniforms in the store. But Frosty felt something as he stared at it. The shopkeeper noticed Frosty standing in front of it.
"Out of all the shit in my store, this is what caught your eye?" The shopkeeper placed his hand on the mannequin and shook it. "This old ass thing?"
Frosty snapped out of his hypnosis. "Oh, uh, yes! It really intrigues me."
The shopkeeper spat out some tobacco into a bucket. "Eh, well. I've had this shit in this store for who-the-hell knows how long. It's been here long enough that the guy who ran this place before me can't remember how long it's been here too. It's been doing nothing but collecting dust."
"How much is it?" asked Frosty.
There was a pause in the air as the shopkeeper tried to think of a price. But he couldn't.
"Listen, man. I'll do you a spot for you if you promise to do one for me. It's on the house, but just take it far far away from this place. This shit's so old and outdated, I can't even think of a proper price. For all the time this thing's been here, nobody has even bothered to look at it. Besides, I need the extra dummy for a new set of armor I got coming in."
Frosty was happy as he heard the mans words. "Have you got a box or something I could put this in?" The shopkeeper went to the back of the store, and pulled out a cardboard box for him to put his things in.
Frosty was very content, again. Once he was done with the store, he hurried back to the Muramasa as he had some patrolling to do.
(( I would've posted this yesterday, but the birthday candles on my cake just would not go out. ))
"Oh what now?" He looked at the rest of the crew seated. "Anyone want to help me beat up a delivery man?" He said as he went to get he package.
Abraxas walked in and crossed his arms. "Is that really wise? From a package you don't know where it came from."
"Anyone want to help me beat up a delivery man?" He said as he went to get he package.
"Eh, I'll come with you." said Taylor, standing and following. She drew out her revolver, loaded six rounds into it, then slipped it back into her jacket as she walked behind Alex.
Abraxas shrugged. "Oh well, if you insist. Careful, package bombers aren't uncommon." He pulled out Annabelle and nodded.
Markus looked through his binoculars, "That bloke couldn't fight his own shadow. I think he might be delivering a message."
He aimed his rifle and observed the situation. "Turn off yer radio, we wanna fly low if we want the element of surprise."
Frosty saw the strange man in rags from afar as he walked through the docks. He stopped in his tracks, leaned against a stack of cargo containers, put his hand on his ALW-1, and waited for what would happen next.
Maddox chuckled as he brough out his binoculars. "You're even more paranoid than my old drill sergeant."
He scouted the otherwise empty docks.
"Heads up crew, messenger at the gates. Zone is clear." He glanced at Koval. "Mad and Kov entering radio silence, out."
Alex ignored the remarks from Abraxas. He opened the door for the delivery man. "What is it this time?"
Abraxas followed Alex and uttered. "We don't take bombs, go away."
The man widened his eyes as a big fellow followed by a guy in a gasmask and some chick opened up the door.
He fumbled with his hands as he handed over a note to Alex. "Here uh, they told me it was urgent."
His eyes were widened even more as the strange person with a gasmask started talking about bombs. "W-what?"
Abraxas turned to Alex then at the package. He turned to Alex again and took a few steps back.
"He's all yours Alex."
Alex took the note, but before he started to read it, he grabbed the man by the collar as he was about to leave. "Oh, no no. You're staying." He started to read the note.
Abraxas quickly turned around and walked casually and covered over his head.
The man had a look of pure fear on his face as Alex held him with a irongrip. "P-p-please sir, I'm just a messenger. I didn't even get paid to do this."
The note itself would appear to be another letter.
"Alexander,
Meet me at Hotel Civan. It's urgent, come alone.
Amy"
Alex looked at the man. Tightening the grip and pulling him a bit closer. "Describe the person who gave this to you?"
Jag tailed Alex,Taylor and Abraxas as they begin to walk out towards the cargo bay to met this delivery man.
The Sanghvi simply stood behind them, watching the delivery man closely from the afar.
The man gasped as Alex pulled him closer. "He wore a hood with a helmet underneath. His voice was distorted."
His eyes darted to Abrax and Taylor. "He pulled a gun on me and told me to deliver this to you. By Terra, I swear that it's the truth."
