"Damnit!", Dwan thought to himself as he realized that his eight-shooter was out of ammo. He realizes that in hindsight he should've brought some extra ammo. Dwan scoured around, trying to find some .357 Laser Magnum cartridges.
Sledge didn't have time to slow down for Hercules. He knew the buckshot probably hurt like hell but it was way less likely than a solid bullet to hit anything vital given how thick a Dracobin's skin is. With the truck slowing down the thugs might get desperate and start killing hostages. He matched the truck's speed and weighed his options. He couldn't risk attacking the outside of the trailer and hurting the hostages inside. [del]He instead resolved to try to take out the enemies in the cab. Pulling up as close to the cab as he could, he drew his hammer and attempted to smash the driver-side door.[/del] (( Nevermind! )) Sledge watched as the truck rolled to a stop. As the drivers were shot, he turned his attention to the back of the truck. With the drivers taken out, he could probably sneak towards the back from the side of the truck. He hanged back and weighed his options while waiting for something to happen.
"Why thank you." Pippin saw one of the bikers behind them. He fumbled with his pistol and took a shot.
Mini Roll Critical Success[10]: Pippin immediately shot the biker behind him by the back, leaving him for dead as he closed in to the bar.
Varn exited his cover. The truck was slowing down allowing him to take a shot. He aimed for the tires hoping to stop the truck dead it its place.
Mini Roll Critical Success[9]: Varn was about to shoot out the tires until the truck stopped dead on its tracks alone. He saw the two drivers as they opened fire, he marked them out and placed a bullet in each one until most of the bikers have already scattered except the truck. [Sorry Bat, someone already did the job for you. By the way get into chat, battle's about to end.]
[So did the Archious land or just hover by?]
[It hovered to create a sandstorm, it didn't land as far as I know] [editline]22nd June 2015[/editline] Jeremy saw the truck stop, he moved in to secure the position and checked for anymore threats.
Jeb saw Iska enter the bar carrying Pippin, or at least he thought he saw Iska enter the bar. After 7 beers, he was pretty drunk by now. Jeb heard some kind of commotion outside, but wasn't exactly sure what was going on.
Varn got closer to the truck. Waiting for Jeremy to give further orders.
"Son of a bitch... " Jeremy muttered as he saw Varn. "Call everyone we need to get those hostages out ASAP!" He heard a few shots then a group of another. He widened his eyes. Complete silence, but the sandstorm hitting their faces. He stared at the door opening, then slowly closing. A shadow kneel down on the ground and did nothing. He was unarmed and waited for Jeremy to close in on him. It was the Leader sitting completely still as he saw the Captain face to face. Silent.
Seeing the leader of the bikers appear, the rage came flooding back to him. Unlike last time, though, the rage was cold and bitter. He hadn't attracted any attention from where he was in relation to the truck, and he had a fantastic opportunity to sneak up on the slimy bastard. He moved slowly and deliberately, hammer in hand. He turned off the kinetic amplifier. He didn't want this to be over quickly. He only hoped his crewmates would catch on and keep him distracted long enough for Sledge to sneak up and hit him at the perfect moment.
The Leader still was in complete silent, but hiding that stoic attitude was a glorious one, its as if in the end he won. Even tho he didn't. He gave a smug smile at the Captain. Jeremy was met with disgust.
"You piece of shit!" Varn yelled as he assaulted the leader. He knocked him on the ground and put his boot on his throat. "I ought to skin you alive and let the sands do their work."
The Leader kept smiling towards this merc. There was nothing he wanted to do next but await his fate.
Varn took his foot off. "Smile all you want. I'm done with you."
The Leader changed his expression. "But these people aren't, with you." He referred to the people in this town. They were to surely blame this disaster towards this merc.
Varn took his foot off. "Smile all you want. I'm done with you."
As Varn stepped away, Sledge brought the hammer down in an overhead swing. He struck not at the leader's head, but at his legs. He was going to pulverize every inch of this motherfucker into bone meal. A quick death was too good for this child-killing son of a bitch. [editline]22nd June 2015[/editline]
"But these people aren't, with you."
"You have a big mouth for a coward who hides behind children!" Sledge dropped his boot on the leader's left hand and brought the hammer down on his elbow.
"No... honor... among... men.." He coughed up. "You... will.. see what fates... await.. you..."
"No... honor... among... men.." He coughed up. "You... will.. see what fates... await.. you..."
"Hey, since you've got such a big mouth, why don't you chew on this?" Sledge crammed the hammerhead of the Workmaster into the biker's mouth, knocking out a majority of his teeth and easily breaking his jaw, before cranking a setting on the handle to turn it into a spade to decapitate him from the inside. He then scooped the top of head head off the ground with the shovel, flipped it into the air, and took one good baseball swing to send it flying into the desert. "Dick."
After a while, Jeb talked to Iska in his severely drunken state. "So, what happened? Did I shee you carrying Pup...Pop...Pippern?" Jeb then called out to the bartender, "Can I got more beer?"
Jeremy marched up to Varn and pressed his palms against his shoulder, raged right now. "What the fuck Varn?! Were you completely intoxicated to not know what the fuck were you doing!" He pushed him against the backdoor. "I don't want to hear anything from you. We could have prevented a child from getting killed!" Jeremy was at a lost. This was supposed to be a day off, this was supposed to not end badly. Everything was fucked, he couldn't describe it to others. Jeremy needed a drink, but he was too distracted as he remembered the child dying right before his eyes.
Having scoured for ammo, Dwan was unsuccessful in finding it. Having missed the thrilling conclusion, as he walked back to the group, he saw Jeremy yelling at Varn. "A day off gone bad. Reminds me of my own adventures.", Dwan thought to himself, as the child's death seamlessly hasn't affected him as much as everyone else.
Sledge helped Hercules up. Both of them were pretty torn up and bloody. They were going to need some medical attention at some point in the near future.
The others had gone over to the truck; Yanim didn't bother as she couldn't run. She walked out into the square where the hostages had been. The dust and the embers of the chaotic battle circled through the air, gradually lifting to reveal the stillness of the scene. The bikers laid side by side with their former prisoners, each alike in their grim silence. Those who had gathered around when the bikers first arrived were now gradually reappearing to retrieve their loved ones, and so Yanim knew she couldn't linger. However, she felt as if there was something she needed to do before she could walk away, to get closure. As she tapped along with her cane she bumped into something metallic. Stooping down, she recognized the shaped charge of a rocket-propelled grenade. She hoisted it up and examined it; it was a brand she didn't recognize, and very cheaply made. These gang members were small time, it seemed. She slipped the rocket into her coat wrap so she could dispose of it later. As she turned to go, she caught a glimpse of someone lurking in the shadow. It didn't frighten her; it was a child, peering out from between two buildings. She couldn't make out any details, the child wasn't visible at all save for the reflected light in the whites of the young boy's eyes. "Hey," she said so quietly that only he could hear her, "are you hurt?" He shook his head no. "It's safe to c-come out now." He shook his head again. Yanim looked over her shoulder before realizing she was armed and dangerous looking. She tried again, "the bad ones who took you are gone." The boy hesitated before finally coming a bit forward, light striking the side of his head revealing his dark skin and shaved head. He started to look around at the devastation outside and then quickly ducked back into the shadows. Yanim knew this was too much for a child to handle, whether they were kanad or human or otherwise. She removed the cartridge from the YSV and placed her rifle on the ground. "You don't have t-to look if you don't want to," she said, pain striking her heart as the boy covered his eyes. "I can carry you, if you want," she said, fearful of asking whether he had parents, as they might have been killed in the action. A woman was crying out in the center of the plaza, "Joshua! Joshua!" Yanim turned around and their eyes met, and she frantically demanded, "have you seen my baby?" Yanim's eyes widened as she realized the mother had dark skin as well, and instinctively the latter ran to the gap in the walls where her child was waiting. "Joshua, my baby. I'll never leave you alone again," she said as she dropped to the ground and embraced him. Yanim picked up her rifle and slung it over her back. If there was any silver lining, it was this. "They took him," the mother suddenly said with passionate anger. "I don't care what they wanted, they took him and put a gun to his head. God in heaven struck that man down for what he did, and you- you and the others who stopped those men, bless you forever. My Joshua is here... he's okay, he's okay..." Yanim wondered if this was the child she saw through her scope just before she shot the gang leader. There was no way to tell, and she was fine with that. Having found some closure, she walked straight back to her ATD and revved its engine, disappearing into the bleak night.
Lion climbed down from the Lancier and started observing the scene. He walked up to the dead child. The girl's death had been instant, it shouldn't have happened in the first place. After checking her vital signs twice, Lion concluded that the girl couldn't be saved. He removed his cloak and wrapped it around her, showing only her face. He sighed deeply and picked up the frail lifeless body and began walking back to town. As he began walking the crowd of citizens split up, allowing him to pass through. Eventually he was met by a crying father and his wife. "I'm sorry, we did what we could." The parents sat down in the sand and held their little girl while crying. Lion turned around and walked back to the Lancier, where McKinze and the Edisons were quietly resting. McKinze looked up as Lion approached. "The girl?" "Negative." "Damn..."
Realizing the fighting had died down and that Jeb was too drunk to understand anything, Iska escorted Pip out of the bar back into the plaza. She looked around the horrid scene. Iska wasnt too moved by all this, after all she was a Khergian, a race of warmongers known for living on what would usually be described as a war world. She slowly walked with Pippin towards the rest of the crew, but spotted Yanim flying away on her ATD. "Ice princess finally see life in the eyes" she muttered. Aside from all that had happened, Yanim had seemed pretty distant the entire day. Iska decided to keep an eye on her in the future.
[well wait, how is Jeb going to get back to base in his drunk state, I didn't think this all the way through...]
As Sledge was doing his work, Varn looked the leader in the eyes. "You're lucky that, he's your executioner." and other similar thoughts were going through his mind. The captain's reaction and what he told him afterwards, Varn did not expect. He couldn't say anything even if he wanted to. He fucked up, again. Varn just stood there silently, thinking of the event's that transpired today. Finally after Jeremy walked away he muttered a few words "And things were getting good." He made his way back towards the square, where the "negotiations" were held. He saw Lion wrapping the girl in his cloak. He didn't want to interfere so he returned to the truck. Many innocents died in there, all because of him. Mind as well give them a proper burial. He carried the first body to the cemetery, then a second and a third and so on and so on. The people of the town were looking at him, contempt and hatred in their eyes the entire time. The feeling of a pariah wasn't foreign to him, so he continued on. On his way back to the truck, grieving relatives hurled insults, dirt and garbage at him. He didn't retaliate. When he delivered the final body at the cemetery, he was greeted by and old priest. "Follow me, outsider." They made their way to a shrine, there Varn stood next to an altar. "A shame it happened the way it did. It is no place for me or the other people to judge you. Only the gods can. You have done enough today. The families will come here to mourn. You best leave this village." Varn listened to the old man. It was obvious he wasn't welcome here by the people and he couldn't blame them. He got on his ATD and took off.
"Shit" Pippin looked at jeremy. "Sir, I feel like, what if, we left the settlement some supplies, I just feel like, feel like we should help."
Jeremy walked aside as he saw Pippin, he couldn't be arsed to say anything once the situation worsened. He turned towards Pippin. "Help in what way? Giving supplies? Pippin that's not going to close the wound up if that's what you're thinking. We've done enough for one day!" Jeremy sighed and made sure to contact Shelia. "We'll migrate to another part of the planet, not far, but not too close either. I'll send everyone a message, seems like they're scattering."
"I know, it's just, I feel the need to o something."
Lion walked up to Jeremy at the truck and overheard what he said. "Sir, I'd like to take some of the crewmembers with me for a long drive with the Lancier. We'll rendevouz with the rest of you in a day or two." He paused and looked towards Varn who was just about to enter the cemetery once more. "I think some of us needs some alone-time to ease up."
