Jeremy turned to Varn and simply nodded. "Yeah, its almost time. I should have everyone know what's the word I received. Along with your news."
Lion moved the box to his room/the weapon workshop and put it next to his charging station.
He then locked the door and went back jsut in time to hear Jeremy talk about some kind of news. "What news?"
"We have a mercenary problem heading our way, Varn mentioned something about a man named Bromun." Jeremy said, giving a straight face. "We have a prisoner affiliated with him or at least involved in the Brig."
"I see. Shall we go to the bridge then?" Asked Lion who was halfway through the door.
"Dr. Beasley wanted to meet me in the brig concerning our prisoner, I'll meet you on the Bridge once were done. The fact that he tried slash his wrists tells me he has more to hide. It wont take long." Varn did a short salute and made his way down to the brig.
After their exchange with the Captain of Archius XI, the mercs quickly exited the neglected structure when Jeremy was far gone out. The Building met's fate as the several coordinated charges turned the decaying wooden structure into a pile of blacken steel and charcoal within a matter of minutes. The Mercs left the screen in an active camouflaged grav tank, speeding off into the dunes of the planet as the bar begin to collapsed into ball of fire and ash.
Lion walked up to the bridge and found Iska alongside what would appear to be a drone that was already present.
Lion did a quick salute to Iska who looked very stern. "You good, Iska?"
Before she could answer he decided to inspect the drone next to her. It looked alot like one of Yanim's constructions.
He kneeled infront of the camera and did a quick wave at it. "[Greetings.]" He said in kanad.
Dwan followed Lion to the bridge. Waiting for the meeting to start, he greets Iska, but looks at the drone weirdly.
She leaned on the wall with her legs and arms crossed and looked down on Lion interacting with the droid. "Yanim not feeling good, Iska make sure robot get all details" Iska proclaimed with her usual smug smile.
[I guess since Viper is going to be gone for awhile, I started fleshing out the Merc faction as long with explaining what happen to Viper through a series of posts from the perspective of the Lieutenant that Jeremy met.]
The grav tank's interior was cold from the advance air conditioning and cramped with squad of soldiers along with their employers as the tank crossed across the dunes when the first sun begin to fall on Duroma's desert.
"Lieutenant, 592 . Incoming transmission from Sigma Phalanx, allow access to com channel 1?" The intercom echoed throughout the crew compartment, catching 592 off guard. "Denied" He replied though his helmet's com system with a tired voice as tired to continue his rather unpleasant nap on the very basic seating on the crew compartment as tank's grav boosters ratted the vehicle back and forth.
"Sir....It's authorization level 5. The request seems to be too important to ignore." The Tank commander said though again through the crew compartment intercom.
"Damnit.." 592 said under his breath, too tired to realize that his helmet's com system was still active.
"Sir?" The Tank commander asked.
"Fi-Fine fine..Let them though." He said in a aggravated tone as started to slowly wake himself up when his body was finally getting comfortable.
"Why would another the hell would another unit be send over here, let alone an entitle Phalanx?" 592 thought to himself as he stretched out his arms while waiting the comlink to finish establishing .
"Right, we'll give the guys who aren't here a few mins. Anyways did anyone have a good time on this place?" Jeremy asked, leaning against the wall. "Personally I didn't."
Lion chuckled. "Aside from the Wild West shootout I had a enjoyable time."
"585 Here sir, the comlink is fully establish, project video feed in the crew?" The tank commander said over the tank's intercom to 592.
592 took a moment to think before responding back to 585's question. "Roger on the video feed 585, have the holographic display put in front of me and only link my helmet's personal com as well."
"Roger." 585 said over the intercom. "Feed should be active in 3...2...1-"
A large hologram flashed in front of 592, It was the live feed of the Bridge from an cruiser in Duroma's orbit from the Tank's inboard communication systems could read.
"This Sigma One, authorization level 5." The figure in front of the said in a commanding tone to the laid back officer who was clearing his throat.
"So Sigma One, why has your Phalanx been called here? I thought the rest of Sigma was busy trying to recover from your fuck up with that defense initiative from Concordis?" 592 said in a snide tone as laid back in his seat while crossing his arms.
"That's funny coming the former Captain of Gamma five, the one who managed to be the only survivor of his botched revenge mission on a heavily fortified position during Gamma Phalanx's failure of a planet strike." The commander said with a slight chuckled after ending his sentence.
"Hey, at least We managed to take out some of the Boome Marines's best officers..." 592 said before looking in at floor of the crew compartment for moment. "Anyways, are you going to explain what are you and rest of Sigma are doing here? Or do you want to continue this pissing contest?"
Varn entered the Brig, Arthur looked frustrated at the merc for making him wait so long. "I'm sorry I kept you waiting doc., I had to take care of something in the armory. I hope you brought the serum with you."
Arthur stepped forward, as Varn apologized for his lateness. He grumbled, and replied.
"Oh, no problem. If I seem annoyed in any way, it's probably because I currently have quite the hangover." Arthur said, rubbing his head and groaning once more. He handed over the serum to Varn.
"Here you are. If you don't mind, I'd like to stay here and watch these ensuing events unfold. I have my own uses for a truth serum, and I intend to refine the recipe depending on how it works concerning your prisoner."
"I must also beg the question; who is this fellow? Another assassin? I'd suggest you have him stripped fully nude in this case, or at least given a physical exam before we begin. I'm not interested at all in seeing another fellow explode over our ship, I'm sure you are the same." Arthur explained to Varn. His voice became cold, as he suggested something else.
"In the likely circumstance that we get no information out of our prisoner, I would suggest torture, as we have discussed before. I suggest this in the most pragmatic of senses; as we've found, prisoners and enemies to this ship have always been extremely dangerous if not completely deadly, and information to pull us out of the darkness regarding our situation would be of great pleasure to me. To say the least... having a captain that is pedantic and mostly useless does not help us one bit."
"I'm in no position to ague with the captain right now. As for our guest of honor over here. He's just a mercenary from the Omega brothers with delusions of grandeur. He tried to take me prisoner when I was alone, but you can see how that ended up for him." Varn said as he pointed towards the prisoner's legs." Already did a strip search before I tossed him in. He had this." Varn gave Arthur a small capsule. "Probably cyanide. There is a heart-rate monitor next to the cell door. Keep an eye on it."
Varn opened and entered the cell. The prisoner panicked and started moving away. "No...No...Please, don't let this guy near me!" Varn grabbed him and injected him with the serum. After a few seconds he started asking questions.
"Do you work for the Omega brothers?"
"Yes"
"Were you hired by Bromun Kreas?"
"Yes"
"Were you the only group he hired?"
"No."
"Who else?"
"The Alpha sisters, Kabelas and about a hundred free agents." He started sweating profusely.
"Anyone else?"
"No. I already told you this."
"Now the actual question. Why did you try to slit your wrists?"
"Because I didn't want to tell you that we have a mole in HarkArk" He realized what he said and shock could be seen on his face. He wasn't faking it.
"Who?"
"No one you know."
"Where are they?"
"They last reported from Earth several moths ago. They gave us the list of the crew and the name of the ship. We haven't heard from them since."
"Did they say anything else?"
"Said something about some syndicate and a personal meeting with Harken Saw, after that we lost communica..." He started shacking and coughing. After a minute he fell on the floor unconscious.
Varn exited the cell and turned to Arthur. "It looked like what he said was true, or at least he thought it was true, so I say that the serum did its work. There is a meeting on the Bridge in a few minutes. The captain want's everyone to get up to speed. Will you be attending?"
Arthur clasped his hands together.
"Wonderful. I think I'll dedicate my time to producing this serum even further, and making it even more effective and long-lasting." He gladly told Varn. When the merc told him about the meeting, the scientist winced.
"Mhmm... I guess I will, given my position on-board the ship. My head is still pounding, so I'll probably be somewhere around the back. If we're departing now, lead on."
"Lets go then." After a few minutes Varn and Arthur were in the Bridge and waited for the meeting to start.
Jeremy saw each one enter through the Bridge. He blinked twice to finally see at least half the crew awaiting for this meeting to start. First, it was pretty important for everyone to get to speed on the situations at hand.
"Okay everyone let's say our trip on Duroma was clearly meant to be a small vacation. Nevertheless, we've ran into a couple of... problems." He scratched the back of his head.
"Varn, I would like for you to explain this mercenary problem. If you have anything the prisoner had to spill out now's the time to share."
Varn walked over to the holo-table and taped a few buttons. The same face as before was shown.
"This is Bromun Kreas, a Boome marine, who has recently gone rogue. Apparently he wasn't happy with the current management and decided to take his loyalists and leave. To further stick it to my current boss, he decided to destroy his pet project, the deal with HarkArk that put me on this ship. He recently put out a bounty for this ship and a few groups have answered the call." A few more taps and the insignias were displayed. "The Alpha sisters, Omega brothers, Kabelas and 100 free agents. The good news is, that these groups cant stand each other and will most likely try to sabotage the competition." He turned to Jeremy " The prisoner spilled one final detail. All information regarding us was leaked by a mole working for HarkArk on Earth. He sounded like he had some interaction with Harken Saw, but he was last active moths ago. Unfortunately, that's all the information I could extract from him and my superiors back home." He tured to the rest of the crew. "Unless you guys have questions, we can move to the other problem."
"Sounds like we should take care of that mole." Said Lion before turning to Jeremy. "Any way we can reach out to Saw? Secret comms-channel? Andronicus?"
"I imagine Andron could provide some contact with him. He is his invention after all." Jeremy turned to Andron. The robot stood in silence. A few seconds later he spoke with a whir. "Establishing..."
The moment of truth.
...
Harken Saw was busy reading the large posters Vara gave out to him. "Tesla Watchtowers, promising." She pulled out another.
"Androids are, well I prefer organic people at covert stuff." She pulled out another.
"Obelisk of light? What a dumb idea." Then she pulled out a large decorated poster.
"Mobile Obelisk of lights? Not a dumb idea." Harken Saw immediately heard a noise coming from his holo monitor at the end of his desk. He tapped his chin, answering the call.
The screen showed Jeremy along with a few members of Archius XI. Harken Saw raised an eyebrow.
Lion did a quick salute. "Greetings Mr. Saw, sorry to disturb you." Began Lion, motioning for the rest of the crew to continue.
"We had a run in with a would be assassin. Turns out that someone is organizing mercenaries to attack the Archius. Interrogation showed that the Omega brothers have a mole in HarkArk, operating on Earth. We thought we should let you know."
"I know, I killed him." Harken Saw blatantly told him. He placed his arms behind his head, slouching over. Placing his leg over his expensive well-crafted desk.
"It goes without warning that people are bound to be noisy in my business where they shouldn't be. Extending towards the Archius."
Lion made a amused grunt. "Well that take cares of the mole then, now we just need to get rid of the mercs."
Iska had straightened her self up into a standing posture.
"This ship have weapon and soldier to take merc groups?".
She didn't really see this ship as a warship, more like a caravan with protection.
Varn nodded to Saw's response. "If that is the case, then we are a day late and a credit short. Sorry to disturb you Mr. Saw. As for the mercenaries, we can dodge them for a long time. The ship's stealth system and new engines should help us stay ahead of them."
"Avoiding the mercs won't solve the issue." Lion looked towards the crew. "I might have an idea that will though..." He turned to Saw. "Mr. Saw, sir, would it be possible for you to create a hollow replica of the Archius, fill it with scrap and blow it up? If you do that while simultaneously "leaking" details of a transaction between two shell-companies it could look like someone took us out and got the bounty.
Sure, the Crimson Son wouldn't fall for it but at least we'd be able to get rid of the mercs."
Harken Saw looked at him with a confused look saying what? He quickly changed the subject and straighten himself. "I had another idea, you see I like to keep an eye towards people. A bit of piracy invasion but a certain someone or Agent I prefer is around the planet. She will aid you... somehow."
Harken Saw slowly pressed the closing screen, going back to his activity.
...
Jeremy shook his head. Reacting towards the sudden close up. "I hate when he shuts us out like that."
