"What news?" Asked Lion as he inspected a small model of a HarkArk Adeptor.
"Well as it turns out, your worries about finding those pieces are now solved." Harken Saw pressed a few button, pulling up a screen to reveal extra information about the planets. "Oltanis, Horis, and Toro is fitted to describe the same signal as Gadon. Channeling the Oracle's energy as it combines the Orb and the other piece may have helped us on gathering the results we need. That should give us a head start before those Crimson find it themselves." Harken Saw clasped his hands, eyes narrowed. "You have your new assignments, it shouldn't be long to gather all three pieces. Might be a day or two. I see great opportunities coming in our way."
"Let's hope you're right. Do you have any intel on these planets?" Said Lion before turning to Jeremy. "Cap, which planet do we go to first?"
"Oltanis is known for its deadly storms and gigantic wildlife. Horis is an uninhabited planet. No life no oxygen just dried just like the moon while Toro is mostly a forest biome. Your average planet at best." Harken Saw stated, tinkering with the rifle. "You'll be fine, so long as you give me what I need we'll finish this mission once and for all." "Cap, which planet do we go to first?" Jeremy looked down, three planets. We pick off one by one and this will be over. But easier said than done. Right now Jeremy wanted to pick the easiest one. "We'll go with Toro, the average the better we're adapted to." "Good, now any questions before I run off to Odenia? I have a score to settle."
"Sounds good to me." Said Lion, he waved for Sledge and Herc to form up as the group prepared to move.
Laying on her bed, Aver Lagul was thinking over the conversation she had with her long time partner. This was the first time their arguing was about her problem. She didn't know what to think exactly, as what Nokhea was right. The past doesn't matter anymore, they put that behind themselves. They should always be looking to improve on themselves. Lagul stands up and looks out her window once more. She sees a ship had parked nearby. But something was familiar about it... "No.... it can't be!", Lagul said in a excitedly surprised tone. She ran out her quarters and rushed to the ship's bridge, where the ship's crew and Nokhea were. "W-05A! Nokhea! The Archius is parked right nearby!", she yelled aloud in the bridge. The crew members checked themselves. Lagul was right! "So, Captain, what do we do?", Nokhea said in a sarcastic tone. "Have W-03A come to watch Termina! W-05A, take this ship back to W-01! We need to get back to the chase!", Lagul said excitedly. As soon as she gave the command, the ship's captain complied and had the crew get everything ready. The W-05A began to rise, as it left Termina for the headship. --- Dwan, not being able to think straight since John's memorial, snuck into his quarters and jumped onto his bed. He thought that a quick nap might help him. He began dreaming of events that had happened a few years prior, in the form of flashbacks.
Dwan was rushing up the floors of the office building he worked at, as Dey's birthday was being celebrated on the floor the group worked on. He stopped right by the door and checked himself before walking in calmly. The party was sub-average looking at best, but it didn't matter. Everyone was here. All of the group members, some of their friends, and Dey's friends and family, including his girlfriend. Dwan walked up to Dey. "Happy birthday, man!", he greeted him, handing him his present. Dey puts it on the present pile. "Thanks man! I'll open them up later.", Dey responded with a smile. On one of the tables was Dey's birthday cake, Swedish cheesecake, his favorite. On the speakers they were playing Dey's favorite album, "Wish You Were Here". The atmosphere was pleasant and everyone was enjoying themselves. Dwan finally felt like he was part of a true family, with people that cared about him and viceversa. The candles are blown, a piece of cake was given to everyone and Dey was opening his presents. "Caldury: The Truth by Wevras Gervase! Thanks Dvajn!", Dey said when he unwrapped Dwan's present. The party was slowly calming down and it was almost time for everyone to go home. As everyone was gathering the plastic plates, an explosion can be heard. Suddenly, multiple explosions are heard throughout the entire working block of the city. As everyone started to panic, Dey picked up the mic. He tries to calm everyone down, but the music was too loud. Just as he asked for the volume to go down, everyone sees a helicopter slam into the building, causing the ceiling to slowly collapse. Dwan ran to Dey, who was holding his girlfriend. "DEY-", he yelled as a piece of concrete hit him on the head, knocking him out unconscious.
Dwan woke up, violently flinging himself to a sitting position. Sweating, he puts his hands to his face. "Why, oh Kyrios why, am I remembering that fucking day!?!?", Dwan yelled to himself.
[Hey sorry for being so inactive lately, I just got off of vacation and I will resume posting soon. ]
"Sounds good to me." Said Lion, he waved for Sledge and Herc to form up as the group prepared to move.
Sledge started to follow but then stopped for a moment and turned. "Uh, Mr. Saw? I wanted to say thanks... for Hercules I mean. I've been taking really good care of him, and he's done the same for me. So... we appreciate you introducing us, sir."
Harken Saw slowly turned, holding the greasy rag as he stared at both of them. It was rather familiar to him but he couldn't place a moment exactly where. Perhaps to him some things were meant to be left folded. "Yes, I suppose introductions can create many relationships. Good and bad, in this case good." He continued to place the rifle inside a case, locking it shut to protect it.
Varn was alone in the armory, working on repairs. He took a smoke break, before continuing. They had already landed, so there was no better time to put the money to good use. He looked through the contacts and called the local distributor. "You've reached HarkArk Privateers. How can we help you?" "I'm looking to buy one of your military vehicles. A tank to be more specific." "Certainly sir, we just need information. Name, occupation, model of the tank etc." "The name is Merner. I'm currently working for HarkArk. As for the model. The SDF Guardian looks good. I would also like to buy the starter package. And don't bother asking me about the newsletter, I'm already subscribed." "Ahh, yes. You have mercenary status with us, so we can't offer you the employee discount. We see that you are at dock at 2915, so the tank should be there in 30 minutes. That would be 20 million. Should we bill your captain?" "No! That would spoil the surprise. I'll send you the billing information. Bye." Varn send the information. After a few minutes, his balance was 20 million lighter. He went down to the hangar to wait for the delivery.
"Let's go." Said Lion after Mr. Saw had finished speaking to Sledge. He went out the office door and inspected the hallway before going towards the elevator. At the elevator were two privateers busy talking to eachother. One of them had strapped on a worn-out SDF unit patch to his shoulder pad. Lion inspected it closesly and realized that both mercenaries had the same patch. The patch was a gold-colored eagle's head, the livery of the 1st Sol System Marine Corps Battalion; elite soldiers that participated in almost all battles during the unification. Lion decided to walk up to them. The privateers turned to look at him. "If Mars is our shield..." said Lion. The two privateers stood silent for awhile before replying. "Then Terra is our heart." Lion smiled and shook hands with the two soldiers. "SSFD, Sparta Squad." Both marines smiled. "Golden Eagles, 12th platoon. Pleasure to meet you." "Likewise." Said Lion. "Been here long?" "Two years. How about you? You with HarkArk?" Asked one of the marines. Lion chuckled. "In a way, been working for Saw for at least five months now."
Iska had been doing some checkups on Isoro in the engineering workshop, and noticed Varn walking about in the hangar. She stood up and tried wiping some oil off her hands with her already stained tanktop, but then resorted to wiping it on her pants instead. Iskas working cloths were a oil stained "white" tanktop and an green overall which was opened halfway and tied around her waist. Her combat boots were steel plated so they double as working boots. Messy as she was, she walked up to Varn. "Soldier boy waiting for something special?" she asked with a grin.
"I am. Tell me, how do you feel about us having a tank?" He looked at Iska with a grin of his own.
Iska raised an eyebrow and put on a smile? "What model?"
"The SDF Guardian. Cheap, but durable. Able to run circles around heavier tanks."
Also in the workshop, Yanim's ear twitched at Varn's mention of a tank. She turned away from the design table and sighed. No doubt, she thought, as soon as that thing enters the hangar Lion is going to tear it down and rebuild it LWA-style. It would be yet another machine Yanim's department would be responsible for servicing, but at least this would serve an important purpose. "That's good to hear;" she said, "we have plenty of big guns on this ship, but if we have to fight armored vehicles like last time it won't work out for us." She tapped an ear implant, "I was very, very lucky."
Iska skoffed and let out a chuckle, "Smaller target takes less bullets". Iska reckoned that a heavy tank woud have been more cool, but that may have something to do with her earlier profession. And from what she had witnessed, a smaller tank would be more suitable for the conditions they had previously been fighting in.
Jeremy received a tap on his shoulder, turning towards a familiar face. "How did it go?" Kira asked. "We delivered the stuff, they should either contact us or vice versa. Right now I'd rather leave once we get that tank." Her eyes brightened, confused on his statement. "Tank? You bought a tank?" "I don't see why not, we need the firepower if we're going to fight Crimson Son head on." Jeremy explained which earned an approved nod. "Reasonable enough." Both went on their own path to the Archius, chatting about stuff. It was almost like a conversation that didn't know when to end. "So Major girl like you, joined military for uh.." "No specific reason Hawk." "None?" She gave a slight sigh, rubbing her eye with one hand. "I mean, the benefits and being in space. That's before all this covert ops operations. I didn't know what I got myself into really. It all stuck around until I got used to it I guess." Kira said as Jeremy watched. "Any family?" Jeremy asked, she turned and only stared. No immediate answer until she had the will to say it. "No, at least not biologically." Both went silent, indirect. "Oh, I didn't really- "Nothing to be sad about. I'm satisfied where I am right now." She crossed her arms, looking down. "I'm a Major in one of the biggest corporations in the Galaxy. I can command my own squads, hell I'm a damn Agent for Harken Saw! I'm important, for once that's what I wanted to be." She sighed once again. Jeremy clenched his hands, biting his lip. "You're more than who you think you are. You don't have to be a Major or an Agent to be important." She turned to him once again, narrowing her eyes. "And I suppose living in a colony will makes things better. Being just an average kid, nobody to remember." She would dwell on the past, an alternative where she felt no connection. "No matter what path you take you will always find the people who will care for you." Jeremy said. She got tired of his crap what exactly did he not know. Perhaps her feeling overwhelmed her to the point of carelessness but that was an option. "Name one person Hawk, name one moment!" She demanded. The intensity pulled her out of the bag. She wanted to know for once. Who was she? Jeremy went silent, hesitant to answer as it may lead to consequences. But instinct knows it was still right morally. "I got to meet you." She felt shocked, she was unable to comprehend what he meant but she did, she didn't want to realize it. Her hands trembled, anxiously. What was this? "I... didn't think you felt that way." Kira admitted. Jeremy didn't reply, he pulled her hand to his own, tightening the grip as they locked hands. Both stared but she felt uneasy. Kira looked down, she unlocked her hand from Jeremy's grasp and stood motionlessly. She wasn't thinking straight, what spell was she on? She took a few steps back slowly then covered her side of her head. "I need to think things through. If you don't mind..." "Not at all." He said, she turned around and walked away deep in thought.
Iska skoffed and let out a chuckle, "Smaller target takes less bullets."
Yanim shook her head. "It's not the bullets; it's the shells," she said, stating the obvious. "It's not like they even have to hit us." She turned back toward her prototype. For the last ten minutes she had been running it through a series of different test conditions, allowing the computer to test for visibility and make adjustments according to detection rate. The test object, a small cube made of brightly-colored foam, was still shimmering on the desk with an ineffectual cloak at 60% detection rate. Shutting the device off, she wondered why the computer had not found the ideal settings. Inspecting the device using her optics package, she could see the small prismatic pyramids positioned all over the device hubs. "Shnka, I see it now. The heat from the holoprojectors is distorting the form of the prisms." She quickly made note of the test failure before pulling the projector design up on screen. "This needs a radiator." Her mental impulses guided the redesign process.
"That's good to hear, we have plenty of big guns on this ship, but if we have to fight armored vehicles like last time it won't work out for us." She tapped an ear implant, "I was very, very lucky." "That's one of the reasons that I bought it. Last thing we need is another armored convoy with no good way to counter it. Besides, I already proved not to be trusted with ATD's since I totaled the last one." "Smaller target takes less bullets" "Faster target, gets hit less. Trust me, I would buy a Mammoth tank in a heartbeat, if it wasn't so heavy, slow and made by HarkArk's top competitor." he turned around "And looks like our new ride is here." The tank was brought in by a large truck, after it had backed up to the Archius, a ramp extended and the tank moved off it into the designated position in the hangar. Some workers got out of the truck and started moving the ammunition that came with the "Starter package", the rest, like spare parts, repair equipment and paint, was moved to it's place in the hangar as well. After everything was said and done and Varn signed the papers, he was handed the "keys" to the tank. He walked back to Iska and Yanim. "Well, it's official, we are now the proud owners of a tank."
"Well, it's official, we are now the proud owners of a tank."
Yanim gestured her approval while hard at work on the prototype. :ok:
Jeremy walked alone as he went up to the ramp seeing the tank at large. He should have been impressed by it but he wasn't in the mood so far. "All set? We're low on fuel for the Archius, I would get some at this place but I'd rather go to the nearest space station for a cheaper price."
Lion was walking next to Jeremy when he spotted the tank. It was a Guardian. "Oh yes..." He said before he ran straight up to it and begun inspecting it. "It's been a long time since I operated one of these babies..." He said to the crewmembers in proximity of the tank.
"What do you plan on doing with it?" Jeremy asked.
"Whatever he does, it's bound to be good. But I insist that I get to name it."
Iska walked around the tank, inspecting the armor, "medium kvelar, four hover pods, good in terrain" she said with a mildly impressed tone. She jumped up onto the hull, inspecting the missilepods. She gave a thumbs up whilst opening the hatch and peeked inside, "Kinetic cannon, laser repeater. Nice combo, is usual human engineering?" she asked Lion. Iska gave Varn a glance and a wink, "mammoth would be cooler.". She then opened the engine compartment and her eyes widened "[Holy hell]". She went down on all fours. "Yanim! Twin mini ion converters with isotonium cooler!" she said with excitement. After some further examination she closed the hatch and jumped down. Walking back to the workshop she tapped Lion on the shoulder, "It is good" she proclaimed with a smile. She returned to make some finishing tuneups on Isoro.
[Radley there's actually basic info of the Guardian on the tropes page so please don't make up your own.] As Jeremy asked the question, Lion grinned. "Beef it up, of course." He gestured towards the tank. "Infact I'll begin working ASAP if you people allow me to." As Varn stated his wish to name the tank, Lion nodded. "Of course."
[noted. gonna re-do my post]
Dwan sneaked out of his quarters, after checking that the bar was empty. Breathing heavily since he woke up, he made himself a cup of Raktajino to calm his nerves.
"Right, let's move on out." Jeremy made haste as he exited the hangar and went towards the bridge to prepare to leave.
