"Perfect." Arthur coyly smirked. He and Dwan made their way to the corner table, away from any prying ears that may find themselves listening too. When they sat down, Arthur placed his drink on the table and looked directly into Dwan's eyes, his smile giving way to a blank stare almost immediately. "Alright , redhead. You can drop the fucking act, and the sarcasm right now. Back at the truck, if you weren't interested in alluding to your past, you have more than failed." Arthur stated bluntly to Dwan. "Moreso... You've gotten me quite interested in you. A bartender is a perfect job for someone looking to get away from the life. Nice and incognito, plus the fact that anyone looking for you probably expects you to be on Earth." Arthur crossed his arms, and looked inquisitively at the short man. "So, where did you operate from? South America? I probably would of met you if you worked anywhere in the west... Or killed you. What did you do?"
Sledge was unable to disconnect his sleeve and finally resorted to slipping out of his jacket and leaving it on the bumper. An average person would have done that before being drug all the way to their destination, but the average person also isn't holding a sledgehammer that can't fit through jacket sleeves. Sledge neglected to dress in layers, so he caught up with his crewmates completely shirtless. A broad red racing stripe ran down his torso where it had been in extended contact with snow and frozen road material. "So what needs muscling?"
"I alluded to nothing, Brit.", Dwan says, as he drinks his coffee. "Tell me, why would I have a criminal past? Stout people like me don't get chances like that. We end up going on our own adventures, our own quests to find what our use in life is. I ended up being a bartender.", Dwan says, countering Arthur's accusations.
Varn got out of the truck and went to the back to check if everything was fine. To his surprise the back bumper was barely hanging from the truck and Sledge's jacket was attached to it, with no Sledge. He looked around and noticed the large man walking around. Varn went up to him "How are you doing big guy?"
"Now you're just insulting me. Should I relay exactly what you said to me, and dissect it? 'You always have make sure you have trustworthy people know about your past, just like me.'." Arthur relayed his words to Dwan, twirling his finger around the edge of his wine glass. "Just like me... Even if this bullshit you're trying to feed me about a fucking pansy 'quest', or 'adventure' is true, then you fucked up somewhere along the road. Killed someone? Robbed something? you can tell me. Show me your past, and I'll show you mine." Arthur said, with a wink.
Dwan decides to be vague, but vague enough as so to satisfy Arthur's need for knowledge. "I've done some bad things. People died and stuff got stolen.", he said, looking down at the table, drinking his coffee.
Colin had returned to the Archives after no one was located near the Bridge so he was taking the time to think and evaluate his current situation. He knew 3 / 4 people on the ship and he knew little about them and they knew little about him. If they were going to be a crew, surely they had to trust each other. Colin thought about this before making his way to the Bar, hoping to encounter some people along the way. If he was going to carry out the plan he had created during his free time on the ship, he needed people to like him. At the moment, barely anyone knew him. He wanted to change that.
Varn got out of the truck and went to the back to check if everything was fine. To his surprise the back bumper was barely hanging from the truck and Sledge was attached to it. He was siting and looking like he was enjoying the fresh air. "So, how are you doing big guy?"
[Okay whatever this is close enough to continuity :v:] Sledge was hoping to get his jacket loose before anyone saw but aww shit it's one of the other security guys act casual.. Sledge stood up nonchalantly as if he were just out enjoying the fresh air. "How are you doing big guy?" Sledge turned and answered "I'm better than ever! Had the best seat in the house!" This was very sly of Sledge because, in reality, he'd eaten about six pounds of snow during the trip.
"Heh... Now we're getting somewhere." Arthur joked, as he leaned over in Dwan's direction. "But that's not just it, is it? You've already lied to me. Already you've changed your story, and I have no doubt there's more than meets the eye with your past. So, I'm not going to stop there. Give me the whole story. Give me... Dwan Theidrum-Ascedor. From the start. You have nothing to fear from me; a fellow criminal."
Colin entered the bar and analysed the area. Two men were sat a table, one of them looking quite angry. Perhaps it wad best to sit far away. Colin chose to sit in the seat furthest away from the men. He liked to assess a situation and people involved before diving in and potentially embarass himself. To distract himself, Colin gave his glasses 13 cleaning sessions.
[I edidded mine not to after I saw you posted yours before mine :v: ] "Aha, good to hear. Come on, help me get the Queen off the truck. By the way, good job back at the bug hunt. Most fun I've had in years."
Arthur was quite persistent. Dwan didn't know what to do. If Arthur pulled a gun on him, he'd be forced to tell his tale, as his weaponry is under the counter. He had to do something. He takes another sip from his coffee, before coughing a little. "My parents were quite the cosmopolitan people. They visited many planets. Following my birth, they visited even more to show me the beauties of the universe. At age 22, they had me go on a quest to find my purpose in life.... aswell as find a wife. Mother's quite adamant about that.", Dwan said with a chuckle. "Thanks to my parents, I traveled with ease. I went to many a world to see its wonders and its opportunities. I ended up going on many adventures for money and met many great people on the way. However...", Dwan looked down. "Many of my early adventures ended in tragedy. People died.... which I could've prevented...", Dwan starts looking distressed. He looks Arthur straight in the eyes. "Do you know what it feels like to see people, people you've grown close to, die right in front of your eyes?", Dwan tells him, as his right eye twitches and his eye color unnoticeably changes from his usual copper brown to a khaki yellow. "It gets to you.", Dwan says. "Then, at some point, things were looking up for me.", he says, as his eye color unnoticeably changes back. "I joined a little group. They took me in, seeing how deep I was in my blues.", he tells Arthur. "We end up going on so many adventures, getting so much gold. But then...", Dwan looked down once more. "They started to question me, demand answers from me, over private matters. I left them.", Dwan says in a really bummed out tone, taking another sip. "I ended up in a dark period in my life, not trusting anyone. I ended up doing more casual work, like working at supermarkets or working as a bartender.", Dwan said. "I decided I needed to rest, so I went on vacation with all the gold I had accumulated.", he tells him. "Soon afterwards, I got back on track. I had decent adventures, one after another. But then.... it happened.", Dwan just stared at his coffee, emotionless. "Almost half a thousand people. Dead.", he said in the most somber voice ever. "The event was terrible. I can't even describe it...", Dwan said, heavy hearted. "I don't know what I did after. All I know is that I'm wanted in atleast 6 worlds for mass burglary.", he tells Arthur, saddened. "I went and did some more adventures, but the payout was barely anything. I ended up working as a bartender one more time before deciding to go on vacation once more.", he says. "That's when I heard of the Archius. I went to get a job on the ship and they asked me if I ever worked as a bartender. I said yes and they offered the job. And that's where I am now.", Dwan says, finishing off his coffee. Dwan was now quite sad, having told his tale. He notices someone cleaning their glasses, wondering if they want a drink or not.

It just so happened to be H. R. Crushinstuff here!" Sledge brandished his hammer before clipping it into a holster on his waist. "So how are we gonna move this bitch? Each take a side?" Sledge chuckled manfully.

Iska strolled to the back of the truck and overheard the conversation. "No need. Lion has device that control hovers on cage. But... lion is sleeping in truck." she said. While Iska thought he was sleeping, Lion was actually recharging mode, to optimize his systems while they drove the truck. A common, but honest mistake for people who haven't dealt much with androids.
17. 17 times Colin had considered engaging in conversation with people in the bar. 18. Colin raised his eyebrows as he watched the mouth of one of the men move quickly, like he was ranting. 19. Colin now had an urge to run back to the Archives and stay there. 20. His attempts to engage in conversation wer- His thought process was interrupted as he noticed the man look towards him. That was his opportunity. Colin stood up, tidied his clothes and made his way to the table with the two men. He took the pen from behind his ear snd addressed the two. "Hello. I am Colin, one of your new crew members. I thought I would go around and introduce myself. Lleasure to meet you. I work as a scribe and spend most my time in the Archives but I can see myself being of use if we ever encounter ehm...financial issues. How and who are you?"
"So I guess we twirl our thumbs and tell camp stories to pass the time" Varn leaned back on the truck.
Iska chuckled a bit. "Iska once drank 30 bloodmoon strong, steal sign to guardian brigade base with Bubal. We never got caught."
Lion quickly turned on. "While you're correct, I'm still capable of hearing." He jumped out of the truck and brought out his AR, after disconnecting the barrel it was once again a SMG. "Alright, so here's the plan. Sledge and Varn, you take point. Varn will handle the talking while Sledge... Does whatever Sledge does. Iska, I want you and your LMG covering my back as I control the cage." He looked at the team. "It is of utter importance that the Helix personnel presents some ID before we show them the queen. I'd rather not have to show them what happens to people that betray the Archius. Let's get going." Lion began dismounting the cage, with a vibrant sound the hoverpads came to life and the cage began moving towards the Helix entrance. Lion looked at the team. "Stay sharp."
[I'm sorry enigmarage, but you really didn't hear any of that. We moved pretty far away, specifically so no one could hear us speak. You can't just make that up. Letting people listen would make the whole point of the conversation null and void.] Arthur stared at Dwan, having taken in his story. "Hmm... That's quite a sad story. You seemed genuinely sad telling me all of that. Quite a life you've had." Arthur stated. "However... There are some things that don't add up. You keep on referring to you crimes as 'adventures', yet I can't quite understand what you mean. I can only assume you had work as a mercenary before you started taking scores. Or, perhaps you fell in with a criminal gang? Either way... Something does not add up, especially given this... statement, that you've 'accidentally' killed almost 500 people. Terrorist links? Such an act would had to of been recently, and I believe that news would of reached Earth somehow." Arthur stated his opinion in full. As he was about to tell his story however, a man approached them to introduce himself, which annoyed him to no end. "We are fine, Mr Colin, and would prefer that you don't bother us. We're having a rather private conversation here." Arthur sternly told the Welshman.
Iska noded. She turned around and lit another cigarette, whilst thinkig that investing in a few more packs of Taubor Red label would be wise, and gripped the LMG. She did as Lion had told her and simply stod around and looked intimidating.
Colin raised his eyebrow towards the man that responded to him. "I see." he frowned whilst shooting said man daggers. Colin rolled his eyes in the direction of the two men before leaving the bar with haste and making his way back to Archives. Perhaps staying in Archives was the better alternatives. He could get work done instead of attempting to know his crew. What did he expect? There would always be that one person in a group you disliked and Colin had been on the ship for less than a week.
"And Sledge... Does whatever Sledge does." "I hold the hammer and look mean!" Sledge answered, nodding enthusiastically at Iska and Varn.
[Have to agree with Pez here, you couldn't have heard Dwan's story, enigmarage.] "Who said my adventures were criminal only?", Dwan says, confused on how Arthur interpreted him. "I've never killed anyone on purpose..... only by accident.", Dwan says, feeling down. "I've never stayed in one place long enough to gain such links and I feel insulted that you'd think I even had such links.", Dwan says in an angered tone. "Of course Terra wouldn't have heard of this news, from what I recall, they only concentrate on human colonized planets and really major intergalactic events, never about news from other stars.", he tells him. Dwan notices the man with glasses come to him. "Hello. I am Colin, one of your new crew members. I thought I would go around and introduce myself. Pleasure to meet you. I work as a scribe and spend most my time in the Archives but I can see myself being of use if we ever encounter ehm...financial issues. How and who are you?", he asks with a Welsh accent. "I'm Dwan Theidrum. Bartender. This is Arthur Beasley. Genetics Scientist. We are currently having a rather private conversation at the moment, so please, if you want a drink, wait at the counter.", he tells him. As Colin leaves, Dwan turns to Arthur. "Now, your story.", he says.
"Great, you don't have to worry about anything. Ill just turn on that old merc charm. Works wonders on people giving bounties." Varn looked at Sledge. "Im gonna need you to look mean if negotiations don't go smoothly." Once everyone was ready, the team went to the Helix entrance. Once there Varn talked to the guard : "Hey, were here to drop off a bounty. Can we talk to someone who is in charge?"
[Going to bed, Iska is in npc mode]
Arthur let out a derisive chortle as the scribe angrily walked off. "The Welsh are so cute when they get angry. Anyway... My story." Arthur quipped, as he cleared his throat and began to speak. "My name is Arthur. For the record, I am not British, I am from England. Fucking Scots thinking they're too good for us. Anyway, I grew up in the south, to quite wealthy parents. My life was quite mundane, until university of course. My interest in all types of biology became inflamed as I got older, what with all the news of alien homeworlds flooding in every day. I dedicated my life to becoming the top researcher in my field; universal genetics, biology and similar scientific ventures. I had access to so many technologies when I finally graduated and got my job; cloning machines, splicing equipment, you name it." Arthur said, as his face turned dour. "But those fucking wankers who paraded as my superiors wouldn't let me experiment with live beings. With sentient beings that could feel pain, or express emotion. They called it cruel; I argued it was progress. I had good intentions. I wanted to create hybrids, creatures that had the best features of the animals I had taken aspects from. I didn't think it was crazy." Arthur stated, firmly as he began to get angrier and angrier. "But apparently, the psychologists thought it was. Every day they forced me to see one. They began diagnosing me with various disorders. I struck them after they told me I had anger issues, because they had no right to force such rubbish down my throat. The government began slowly reducing my access to equipment and funds, until I could barely clone a mouse." Arthur spat out. "That's when I cracked. That's when they told me I did, at least. I still had money and influence, so I bribed some officials to give me at least some splicing equipment back, and I set to work on what was supposed to become my masterpiece. I kidnapped one of those psychologists during a session, and I stole my neighbor's dog, little yappy bastard. My intention was to create a perfect hybrid; the loyalty of a dog mixed with the appeal of a human. It would of been... Magnificent!" Arthur ranted, as he tried to calm himself down. "But they caught me. The psychologist I kidnapped managed to free himself from the boot of my car and ran to get help. I was disgraced. I couldn't go anywhere without someone mocking me. Apparently, my story had gone viral. When I was told I was going to face charges for my 'crime', I lost it completely.Had to create a persona and flee to Switzerland." "That's where I met the criminals I had fell in with. They helped me set myself up and and give myself a new identity. They gave me my life back, free from ridicule. I got a little plastic surgery done as well, which is why that Colin fellow probably didn't clock me. I started going by the name 'Endarth', after some tale my father used to tell me about a Welsh ancestor that got himself kicked out of Wales for bestiality." Arthur smiled, as he told Dwan about his new life. "You've already heard what happened after that. Moved around Europe for a bit, putting my skills to use where they were needed. Everyone thought I killed myself from the shame, and no one suspected where I really was. When this job became available, I saw it as an opportunity to continue my studies in peace, away from crime and away from prying eyes." Arthur sighed, as he finished his story. "And that's the end of it. I don't have an agenda, or anything to hide, from you at least. Make no mistake... If anyone finds out and tries to blackmail me, I will take them down with me. That is a promise." "What do you think?"
Varn looked at Sledge. "Im gonna need you to look mean if negotiations don't go smoothly."
"For you, brother, I'll look mean even if things do go well!"
Once there Varn talked to the guard : "Hey, were here to drop off a bounty. Can we talk to someone who is in charge?"
Meanwhile Sledge be like
Dwan is astounded by Arthur's story. He thought the guy had some major issues. However, he was too nice to tell him that. "Interesting tale. I hope one day you'll be able to make a hybrid of your own.", Dwan says nicely.
Arthur gave Dwan a twisted smile. "Oh... I will. Just give me time..." Arthur said. He switched back to his usual attitude. "Now, please excuse me, my friend. All that fighting and all this wine is making me quite tired. I'll pay my tab next time I'm here. Toodleloo!" Arthur said, as he finished the last of his wine and walked off with a flourish.
