Name: Yanim Sidikan
Date of Birth: 3-27-2365
Crew Profession: Maintenance Technician
Race: Kanad
The Kanad Collective is an icy, inhospitable world full of icy, inhospitable people. They are ruled undemocratically by a trio of three massive clans, one of which is the Sidikan clan. Being born as a highblood doesn't guarantee any political power, but it opens up many avenues. Yanim, upon reaching adulthood (age 15, as kanads mature and age faster than humans,) enrolled in the State Naval College of the Sciences with the intent to become an engineer, but was unable to fare in the high-level courses. Instead, she refocused into ship maintenance and graduated the program after two years.
Human and kanad relations are poor, currently. The Collective views humanity's inevitable ascent to the stars as a potential future threat, and has taken steps to hinder contact and trade with the galactic upstart. Likewise, humans find kanad culture comparable to that of the Soviet Union. However, it isn't unheard of for individual professionals to work with humans in contrast to the state's wishes. Enter Yanim, who, after numerous odd-jobs, found herself a long distance from home in search of work. The Archius seemed like a decent prospect.
At least, this is the story she provided upon interviewing for the job.
Yanim is of typical dimensions for her race - she is barely over five feet tall (155cm) while weighing just 80 pounds. (36.3Kg) Her face is partially obscured by a mask which filters toxic oxygen out of the air in favor of pure nitrogen. Under the mask, her face is shark-like, containing a number of fangs which overhang her lower jaw. Her skin is a pale purple and her hair is stark white.
Before Isaac was able to get an answer back from the Chief of Engineer he and Lion heard the captain informing the ship about an unknown ship floating in out proximity.
Lion then started to walk away.
'Seems like Lion got some important job to do.' Isaac thought to himself.
'Doesn't sound like I'm getting any answer from the Chief. I'll just put the request from Lion in our system.
Isaac filled out a request form and send it to the Chief.
'Hmm, i should arm myself in case we get boarded. I'm gonna have to do that once I've check up those tubes the Chief requested me to do.'
Isaac turned on his shoulder flashlight and then started crawling through the tubes. Checking if all the fans and maintenance bots are working and everything is working as it should. He check the models of all the maintenance drones in case they where the model the Chief mentioned. He found a small cleaning drone that seemed to be stuck. Isaac took a quick look at it and oiled the wheels before releasing it back on its way.
Except for that cleaning drone everything else seems to be working fine. So Isaac crawled out of the tubes and located the closes terminal to fill out the report to Chief of Engineering.

Status Report: Maintenance check
Name: Isaac Devol
Location: Jefferies tubes A-3 through B-2
Status: All maintenance bots checked out to be working as intended.
Anomaly: Found a cleaning bot that was stuck. Unstuck it and let it go on about its programmed schedule.
Side note: I did not find any AB-90120 model maintenance droids.

'Aaaaand send. Well that should be a job done. Now of to find me some guns.
Isaac started moving towards the elevator, on his way to the armory. Should be the most obvious place to find weapons.

"I don't want to alarm anyone but the radar picked up a ship, it doesn't seem to be moving but we should be careful, we don't know if these are friends or foe." Jeremy said.
...
Also if anyone with knowledge of other ships wants to help me out then come to the bridge, I can kinda see it and I want to identify it when it comes closer, I haven't seen many ships lately so my memory is a bit hazy." Jeremy said.
"Captain, I've done a quick run over on the ship and it matches none of my records. When I tried to connect to their systems wirelessly, their access points disappeared instantly. However, I did notice something painted on the hull."
With the flip of a wrist, Dolosus dragged some data onto bridge's shared holoscreen.
"That thin film covering the ship is dark matter bacteria. It has no reproductive capability but can be cultivated in any half-decent biophysics lab. It adapts extremely rapidly to whatever signal you throw at it and absorbs all signals in roughly that part of the spectrum. Usually used to protect server rooms from outside interference. I've never seen it lathered over a spaceship before."
To demonstrate, Dolosus went to the bridge's comms panel and played with a few knobs.
"Currently, the ultraviolet from the nearby star is the most prevalent signal, so the ship is absorbing all ultraviolet. However..."
Using a comms override, every radio on the Archius was forced send a signal for a few seconds. Suddenly, the ship disappeared from the radar!
"With that radio signal burst, the bacteria adapted and started absorbing radio signals instead of ultraviolet."
Noticing the room had become somewhat frustrated with his long-winded explanation, Dolosus then turned to the captain and finished what he was trying to say.
"Long story short, the coating on that ship will soak up any directed energy weapons... No microwave cannons, laser beams or gamma ray bombs will hurt it."
With that last sentence, he felt a nagging in the back of his head that there must have been some obvious weakness. Apart from just blasting the thing with projectiles, of course.
"Did somebody say dark matter bacteria?" Joseph suddenly came bursting into the bridge with a small sealed jar containing a strange purple translucent organism bubbling sinisterly inside the jar.
"Dark matter life forms are found mostly within ze outer ring of the galaxy, where dark matter interferences are greatest." Joseph said as he brought out a chart.
"As you could see here, I have a sample of fresh dark matter bacteria from the planet XZ-197b. I'm about to conduct an experiment. Umm, does anyvon has a music player I could use?"
After listening to Dolosus, and hearing Joseph, the Captain walks out without saying anything and heads to his bedroom, he grabs an old music player and brings it to Joseph.
"Here, you can use mine, i don't really listen to music. Please tell me you have an idea that may help us attack them, since we only have energy weapons by the looks of it." Jeremy said to Joseph.
"Thank you for telling me Dolosus, without this information I think we would have been screwed if they turned out to be hostile" Jeremy said to Dolosus.
"Please let me know if you find anything else about it, it's slowly getting closer and....it's looking a bit like a pirate ship, I am not fully sure if it is so take it with a grain of salt for now. Pirate Ships are rare to come by nowadays. Mainly the bounty hunters you have to worry about." Jeremy said to Dolosus
The intercom for the bridge buzzed into life, as Arthur's angry voice could be heard shouting into it.
"Captain! This stupid German doctor you've placed in my lab has absconded with some very important bacteria. I fear he might be endangering the ship by running around with it. If you see him, would you kindly remind him that I am his superior, and that thievery will not be tolerated in the future? Thank you."
"Ah thank you captain." Joseph said as he took the music player.
"Slightly old, but it'll have to do. Now, if anyone of you happens to feel a slight discomfort in your ears, don't vorry, it's all part of the procedure." He said as he took out a small memory chip and inserted into the player. The moment the "Play" button is pushed, no sound came out at all, an awkward silence filled the air as the crew looked upon the doctor.
Suddenly, the dark matter bacteria began changing shape as if it was struck by something, it first shrank into a ball, then into a flat disc, then into a spiky blob. As the tape continued playing, the bacteria changed shape moe and more erratically and violently. Suddenly, it changed into a bubble and popped. What used to be the jar that contained the bacteria is now nothing but an empty sealed jar.
"You all see vhat I mean? Ja? Ja?"

"Oh shaddup. It's all in the name of science!"
As Isaac entered the elevator he saw a gun rack standing there with guns prepared.
"Ah, good. The weapons are here. I'll just grab one of these."
Isaac grabs a one of the smaller arms with a holster and attaches it to his belt.
"Hmmm, might as well go to the bridge and see what's going on."
Isaac then proceeded to click the button for the bridge in the elevator. As the doors opened and Isaac enters the bridge he hears "Oh shaddup. It's all in the name of sciences!"
'The doctor seems to be in good spirit' Isaac thought to himself with a small grin on his face.
"So what seems to be the situation?"
Guessing that the ship isn't going to hand out weapons to the crew, Dwan decides to check if his revolver is loaded. A skilled revolver user can detect how many bullets he has loaded by simply holding it and determining the weight of the gun. Dwan does so and figures out his gun's empty. He reloads the gun and gives it a wipe with a tissue. As he puts his gun back under the counter, he catches himself sneezing into the tissue.
"Hmm... It seems zat you caught a cold, vould you like to perhaps visit the medicinal office for a prescription later today?", Joseph says as soon as he heard the sneeze. "I'm good.", Dwan says as he wipes his nose.
Suddenly, Joseph leaves the bar. As he already left the money, Dwan doesn't question Joseph suddenly leaving. He grabs the coins and tells Joseph to come again, despite him not being there anymore. He then notices an alien coming into the bar.
"Bar worker, concentrated calcium in a saline solution please! Work quickly, I have much to keep running on this spacecraft.", Kr'fernir tells him. Dwan tries to comprehend what the Turl'nir has told him. "Alright?", Dwan says as he gives Kr'fernir a glass of Terran seawater. "I hope that's it.", Dwan thought to himself. "So, you're one of the other crew members, aren't you? I recall seeing you when we were at the captain.", Dwan asks. "I'm Dwan Theidrum, you can probably guess what I do.", Dwan says, awaiting Kr'fernir's reply.
With his second-hand plasma pistol in holster and the idiot parrot on his shoulder, Tussor made his way to the bridge and rather awkwardly joined the group as he was obviously late for whatever party they seemed to be throwing.
When they arrived, the parrot was visibly startled by the strange shapeshifting entity inside the jar that Joseph was holding - "Settle down, you", "Settle down, you! Braww!" the parrot, of course, parroted his new-found master's words ever faithfully.
Tussor finally asked "What's up? Pirates?"

"It's fine, he is showing us an experiment which may help us when it comes hostiles using Dark Matter, but unless you don't want people to clone and do experiments on, then I will warn him not to do it again." Jeremy says.
Suddenly Joseph came over and spoke into the Intercom.

Jeremy then went back over with Joseph to the Black Matter Bacteria and Music player and watched him do the experiment.

"Hmmm...I don't see how this is.....wait, what if we hooked up the music player to the speakers on the outside and once it gets close and turns out to be hostiles, we play the music, then the Black Matter Bacterial will disintegrate leaving them vulnerable to attacks with Energy weapons." Jeremy said with an Enthusiasm tone.
[editline]27th March 2015[/editline]
"Just one question, what was the music player suppose to do when it played music near the Black Matter Bacterial?" Jeremy asks Joseph.

"Do I have to explain everything by myself?" Joseph sighed as he returned the music player. "Very well, I shall explain."
"Dark matter-based lifeforms are a rarity in zis galaxy, an estimated 0.00021^-10% of the entire galaxy's lifeforms are dark matter based. Due to zheir rarity, scientist, researchers and biologist paid big money just to get a living single-celled dark matter lifeform. And even then, dark matter are still a mystery to us."
"However, as vicious zey may seem. Dark-matter lifeforms are susceptible to extremely high-frequency noise level. Planets vhere dark-matter lifeforms are found have been reported to be almost completely silent. And that's how zey managed to survive."
"Zis memory chip contains a recording of an extremely high frequency sound clip. Zis is vhat vas causing the cell to die off." Joseph finished, taking out his canteen to get a drink of water.
"If zat don't work, ve could alvays use an apoptosis?" Joseph suggested as he recapped his canteen.
"Apoptosis eh? Hmmm, I need to contact Arthur. Before I do that though, I want you to make us a bigger version of the Music Player, and because that is an old one." Jeremy instructed Joseph.
Jeremy then walked over to the intercom and contacted Arthur.
"Arthur, I need you to make a weapon for us, I need a weapon that shoots a large amount of Apoptosis and strong enough to destroy Black Matter Bacteria, work with Lion to make the actual weapon unless you can do that yourself." Jeremy instructed.
"If you have any questions, contact me again, I have to contact the Engineers." Jeremy said.
He then changed the channel on the intercom.
"Dolosus and Kr'fernir, I need you two to work together to check the outside speaker system, see if it is up and running, and if not, you both will have to work together." Jeremy said.
"Contact me if you have any questions." Jeremy said.
He then walked over and looked at the ship outside.
"They will have to know, it's no doubt a Pirate ship, clear as day....Keep it together Jeremy, tell them when you have to, don't make them panic." Jeremy said to himself.

"Vat? I'm a doctor, not an engineer! You should talk to ze guy in the engineering division about your speaker."
Hearing Jeremy's orders, Arthur became puzzled.
"A weapon that can shoot apoptosis? Captain, it is simply not possible to "shoot apoptosis" at things, especially black matter cells. What I can do is attempt to create a bullet-like weapon that is able to shoot cells that can begin the process, but even then, I would need to generate enough cells to do so in the first place.
With that considered, would anyone up there be interested in volunteering for a cell scraping session? It shouldn't be too painful, and it could potentially save the ship if we are at all in peril. Plus, you'll get a free lollipop."

"Wait, what if we don't need to use it outside? If they board us, our doors will open and the two ships will connect via an air tunnel, I forgot the name, basically it is to stabilize air, it's a requirement for all Space Ships to have one so the other person does not die when boarding a ship that may contain different types of air. Anyway, so they connect to us via the Air Tunnel and once our doors open, BAM, the music hooked hooked up to the Announcement speaker on high, will play and since we can't hear it, they won't hear it and won't know it's happening. "That's... genius. I'll contact Lion and get to work on the process right away. I would suggest trying to parley with this ship until then, to understand their intentions if friendly, and to buy us time if they're not."
With that, Arthur hurried quickly from the bridge and to his lab, switching to Lion's frequency through the intercom.
"Hello, my metallic friend! I'm in need of some custom weaponry, something that we must collaborate on. I have the ammo, but what I need is a custom bullet and access to the weapon systems, so we can fire it out. Would you kindly make your way down to the lab, so that we can make some beautiful scientific music happen together?"
Yanim shuffled into the bar with an exhausted expression. As a maintenance technician, her primary job was to make repairs to the ship after accidents or combat, but since the ship was nearly in factory condition, she had not yet become useful. Instead, she had spent the entire flight up to this point acquainting herself with the ship's design and double checking the quality assurance tests conducted before the vessel was launched. Emerging from the dimly-lit crawlspaces of the water supply system, she was impressed at the workmanship displayed by the human shipwrights, even as she was disappointed to have nothing to report.
Speaking of which, she had not yet spoken to the lead engineer, Kr'fernir. In fact, she was unsure if he was even aware of her presence on the ship. Nonetheless, going by his name, she was happy to know that her direct supervisor was not a human, although she couldn't quite remember what species he actually belonged to. Unwittingly, she stood next to him as she asked for a drink she had been introduced to shortly before embarking, a rum and coke.
As Dwan was waiting for Kr'fernir's reply, he notices yet another alien entering the bar. Yanim comes up to the bar and asks for a rum and coke. Dwan swiftly gets her drink.
"Here you go.", Dwan says as he gives her the drink. "I'm going to guess you're another crew member? I'm Dwan Theidrum, you can probably guess what I do.", he says, now awaiting Yanim's reply.
Yanim nods with a "hmph" as a terse show of gratitude. "Yanim Sidikan," she says while pointing at herself. "No one special. Here to fix things not work. Human ship make well, but not..." she trails off before retrieving a handheld device from her pea coat. "Ke shenne kes Varken'e roukt; Ke nesa kim indir logorant mik vani vom aki sar aki."
After a moment, the device emitted a tinny and indifferent voice which translated the message. "I don't like the vessel's layout. I can't seem to find my way from place to place."
"I find bar by mistake," Yanim added before sneering, the kanad equivalent of a laugh. After taking a few long sips from her drink, she enquired whether Dwan knew the lead engineer.
"I haven't introduced myself to everyone on the ship yet, so no, I don't know the lead engineer. However, I've heard that he isn't human.", Dwan remarked. "Heck, maybe it's that guy.", Dwan says, pointing at Kr'fernir.
Lion rose up from his desk and examined the schematic. It was done. In less than three hours he had actually managed to finalize the deisgn of his sentry gun.
Using a series of rapid-charging coils the gun itself charged up kinetic energy before finally discharging it through a small lens, making the sentry gun a semi-auto miniaturized version of a railgun cannon.
"This will help us indeed."
All he needed now was to report it and send the schematics up to the engineering crew, hopefully they could begin construction of the sentry gun, Lion hoped that the captain would agree to having some of them mounted in key areas around the ship.
Lion opened up the intercom.
"Captain, Lion here. I've finished working on a schematic for a sentry gun suitable for spaceship defense. Do I have your permission to forward the schematics to engineering for construction?"
While speaking, Lion sat down at his desk and started looking at the ships material inventory.

Noting the current state of external affairs, Kr has seen fit to assemble himself a simple coilgun out of some spare fuel-feed magcoils and ignition capacitors mounted on a simple frame with all the other necessary parts, he reckons it can accelerate a ferrous slug (or some nuts and bolts) up to about .1 of C.
He chugs down his drink, or meal, or whatever calcium concentrate is for his species and goes to engineering to attempt damage control in the case it is needed. He calls his one little robotics engineer, finally having a use for him.
"Devol, get down to engineering and access the ship-wide drone controls. They're the best form of damage control we have, and we're going to need them if things get violent. I do hope you weren't thinking of going to the bridge, your skills would be worthless up there."
His underling called, he goes about making sure the main reactors won't explode as soon as the shields start spitting feedback energy into the field-feeders.

"Hello Archius Captain, I am the Captain of the Ship you see in front of you, of course it's a pirate ship. We would like to board your ship and take any items we want, no one will get hurt or die if you agree, but if you don't agree, you will die and we will take everything." The Pirate Captain said.
"Put me on, I need to answer him" Jeremy signaled his Staff.
"Ahem, hello, uh, how can I put this? No, we will not let you take anything from our ship, you must turn around now or you will regret even thinking about looting us." Jeremy said with an Aggressive tone in his voice.
"Heh, what small talk, I bet you don't even know how to fire a gun, we will be boarding you in a couple of hours, we just....have to get prepared. Goodbye Captain." The Pirate Captain said.
Jeremy then walked over to the announcement speaker.
"Okay, we just got a transmission from the ship. The ship is exactly what I thought it was, a Pirate Ship. They are going to try and loot us, but I think we have enough resources to show them that even a small crew can do big things in the universe. I would like everyone to come to the bridge and grab a weapon, once you arrive via the elevator, walk out and turn to the right, there are weapons lined up for you. And uh Arthur, we need those Apoptosis Shells ready soon, please contact us when you are done with them. They didn't tell us when they would arrive except that they will in a couple of hours."
