((Someone bring me up to date with a summary of what happened during my ban.))
[After we identified the Divinity Creed, Jeremy managed to convince them to stop bombing and let us on Gadon. The ground team of Yanim, Viper, Lion, Pippin, Jeb, Sledge, Varn, Jeremy, Iska, Andronicus the Sentinel and Hercules the Dracobin, Sledge's pet, headed down to Gadon to find the piece of the Oracle. Once they landed, they found a spherical structure with a cryptic puzzle. As they try to open it, a swamp monster attacks them. Herc ends up eating the beast in half, but it injured Jeb and made Pippin unconscious.
They get attacked once more by a swarm of 4 foot bugs. This battle causes Iska to go ubermad. Herc tries to calm her down, but gets injured by her. Viper ends up knocking her out, though a bit too harshly. The Divinity Creed finds out we have xenos with us and attack. They stop attacking us when a bigger threat appears. The Crimson Son. The Creed retreats as the ground team tries to retreat. Viper knocks out one of them and takes him captive, as they barely make it out. From what I understand, we didn't get the Oracle piece and the Crimson Son blew up the spherical structure.
We regroup as HarkArk reinforcemence comes to help us. We retreat through a jump and end up near a HarkArk base disguised as a meteorite. Viper quits his job due to his actions and Varn is named temporary head of security. The Crimson Son guy we captured got tortured for information, but he didn't spill anything. He ends up blowing himself up, destroying the medbay and injuring Viper badly.
Currently, Joseph is taking care of Viper, Varn is waiting for Arthur to fix his situation up lest he go mad, Dwan is sneaking the assassin's cybernetic parts to the janitor's storage with Varn's clever help, we might have pissed off the HarkArk officials on the fake meteorite and Lion is having flashbacks to the good old days of his humanity. That's about it, I think. 12 pages of content, everyone.]
[Oh, and I'm working on a new page on TVTropes. For people feeling intimidated by the constant flow of the thread, there is now the timeline page! WIP, of course. Rigel's going to take awhile.]
[I assumed the Oracle piece was inside the sphere and that's what we're going to find out later.]
(No, I was made unconscious after I was shot by the Divinity Creed.)
[I assumed the Oracle piece was inside the sphere and that's what we're going to find out later.]
[Yeah, the Sphere was a container for the piece which we still haven't opened. It's onboard the Archius though. Lion however made a holographic sphere meant to lure the Creed forces however instead he triggers his trap when the Crimson forces are all over the artifact site.]
Captain Jeremy waited in silence as the surgery team were patching up Viper, again this time with a bigger blast that affected them all. At first the situation felt weird, then the explosion happened, that affected him most. His thoughts traveled as he stood. He felt guilty and responsible for this incident and rightfully so, now people are scolding him. He wondered if he was even fit to lead after their expedition on Gadon.
He turned towards Kira and felt the urge to break the silence. "Look, you ever have that feeling where you can't stand the pressure overwhelm you sometimes and realize there isn't a third option to take?"
The Major turned to him, blinked, she looked down as she crossed her arms. "Being a Captain isn't easy. The movies, comics, and games made the position like a fun adventure, an experience. You probably look for treasure, explore the Galaxy, seek fame. But what's the actual reality in that?
Sometimes there will be pressure, you will probably get flak for your commands and you're going to have to move pass it." Kira explained.
"I'm assuming you're part of Colonel Braun's fleet but in an outpost. How did his fleet appear just in time when we got out of Gadon? Did you know we were coming?" Jeremy asked. She could only shake her head and look directly at his eyes.
"Harken Saw authorized a covert fleet to track you down in case the Crimson Son ambushed you, in which they did. That fleet is ours you're talking about by the way. We had an outpost in the northeastern part of Gadon a month ago but things in their channel went silent a day before your crew showed up on Gadon. That made things eerie and suspicious so Col. Braun decided to find it which is a hell of a coincidence when you consider the fact that Harken Saw ordered us to track you instead. That's were they've picked up signals that felt off. Then Braun knew it was the Crimson Son."
"Your outpost on Gadon? Did you had any idea that the Divinity Creed tried to bombard the planet?" Jeremy asked, she stood silent and had an urge to ask him something.
"They what? That's most likely why they didn't answer, they were dead before they could call contact."
[Wait so the Creed dudes gassed a HarkArk outpost? What a dickmove.]
Pippin gave up on trying to find Arthur, he seemed like an ass and would probably just make a smug comment about it. Instead he headed for the bar, he needed a drink.
Kira Greene felt like she wanted to puke. How could those men gas their soldiers like that.
"I need to contact my superiors about this. Things have escalated to the point that we can't wait things out, we need to do something about this."
[Time for another 'Nam flashback. :v:]
Leon and Reed stood next to the soldiers from the Highlander unit. They had taken the Creed trenches hours ago, during that time a steady stream of soldiers, military vehicles and supplies had poured in. The Creed forces were outnumbered 10 to 1 and had completely retreated to their fortress: God's Refuge.
No attempt had been made to push abck the SDF forces and after a barrage from an orbiting ship the last AA cannons had been taken out. SDF Marauders had resorted to hit & run tactics, striking the fort at random to keep the rag-tag militia soldiers and fanatics on their toes, preventing any rest.
McKinze had briefed Reed and Leon on final objective; all forces were to converge on the fort from all sides, the elite units had been tasked with the breaching of the front gate which was located at the end of the massive ramp connected to the fortress. The other units were to utilize breaching charges to access the lower levels of the structure, together this would mean that sooner or later the Creed forces would be pushed to the very top of the structure where they could either flee, perish or surrender.
Sol Naval units had reported that the Creed flagship, God's Wrath, had managed to evade one of the fleet groups and was currently on its way to Mars. Command wanted the ground forces to finish up as fast as possible to prevent any form of evacuation on the Creed side.
But right now, they were forced to wait. Everyone but the artillery units were ready as they had been forced to switch out their energy cells due to the immense martian heat.
"You think the Creed surrender if we direct all the heat towards their ugly fort?" Asked Reed jokingly.
Leon grunted. "It's always worth a try, not sure where you'd find a fan that big though."
The two Highlander soldiers were too busy armwrestling to hear Leon and Reed's conversation, while McKinze was marking targets with his binoculars. A small portable radio next to the group came alive. "Highlander, come in. This is High Command. Artillery units are ready and the gunships are returning. Phase three is a go!"
"Finally." Said McKinze. "Copy that Command, Highlander-Lead out." He turned to the squad. "Ready up."
Leon and Reed grabbed their rifles and did some quick stretching before taking up position alongside the trenchline.
"All units, all units. This is Highlander-Lead. Phase three is a go. Artillery, load up three rounds each. Aim for the gate."
Lion glanced behind him and watched one of the artillery crew get to work. The commander began barking out his orders as fast as he recieved them.
"Fire mission! Three rounds! Elevation is at fifty degrees north, tile eight! Open, load and aim!"
The trench had gone from inactive to combat-ready in mere seconds, the marines were all lined up and ready to move across.
One after one the artillery crews reported in.
McKinze raised his arm. Leon could hear his own heartbeats. He looked at Reed who nodded. McKinze clenched his hand.
"Fire!"
Leon was almost blinded when all of the artillery cannons fired their massive gauss cannons. Lightblue contrails came from all directions and hit the fortress, tearing off massive chunks.
"Go! Go! Go!"
Leon vaulted over the trenchline and started sprinting. McKinze was right infront of him, to his left was Reed and to his right was, to Leons surprise, his squad sergeant with shotgun in hand.
McKinze yelled "For Terra!", creating an echo as the thousands of marines let out the same warcry in unison.
Several hovertank pushed ahead and formed a chevron as the began ascending the massive ramp. "Stay close to the tanks!" Yelled McKinze just as a rocket hit one of the tanks, forcing it to slide off the edge.
As they ran across the ramp to the now vaporized gate, Leon felt as if time stood still.
Finally, they reached the gate.
Dwan and Varn finally reached the janitor's storage across the hall. They open it and shove in the crate of cybernetics, putting a few things on top of it to make it look less suspicious. "Good job, Varn.", he tells him. He notices Pippin going to the elevator, looking like he needs a drink. "Varn, keep watching Iska and checking if her arm is good. I need to get back to the bar.", he tells him as he dashed to the elevator before it left.
"Hey Pippin, heading to the bar, are we?", Dwan asks, making an assumption.
Lion snapped out of his thoughts and went to the armory. He went over to his desk and picked up a half-finished gaussrifle he had been working on.
He walked up to the range and activated one of the targets. Finally. Quiet. No thoughts. No stress. Nothing. He fired off a shot.
Bullseye. His thoughts wandered off again.
Pippin turned to Dwan "Yeah, I guess I just need to get some stuff off my mind."
Lion decided that he was too unfocused. He needed someone to talk to. Seeing as Jeb was unconscious, there was only one other onboard the ship that could classify as a shrink: Dwan.
Lion went for the bar, due to the elevator being busy, Lion decided to take a shortcut using the service ladder to get to the top.
He entered the bar and sat down.
Pippin and Dwan reach the top floor and enter the bar. Dwan notices Lion within. He gets behind the counter as Pippin takes a seat. "So, what can I get you two?", Dwan asked, despite knowing what Lion's usual is.
"Sure Dwan I'll keep an eye on her." Varn. On the way down to medical, he stopped one of the staff and asked him to do a food run and get some food for medical. "The injured have started to wake up, so lets greet them with some good food." He walked in the medbay and sat down next to Iska.
"Eh, I'll just have a coke, diet." Pippin sighed.
Arthur glared at Varn.
"I appreciate your help, but my earlier order still stands. Please remove yourself and Iska from the infirmary at once, lest you compromise this delicate surgery. Viper is already in a critical condition, any foreign germs at all have the potential to cause more complications, even death."
"Sure, sorry doc." Varn helped Iska up. They both existed the medical lab. Varn stopped the staff member bringing food along the way. "You don't want to go in there, unless you want doctor Beasley to rip you a new one." Varn picked up the food. Him and Iska went to the mess hall. Why waste the food?
Iska was still somewhat weak, but she had enough strengths to chew her food at least. The medics had bandaged up her arm and legs where they were burned. Varn was thinking that thing could have been better, but they could have been a whole lot worse.
"Actually I'm not here to drink, I wanted to talk to you about something." Lion looked at Dwan. "How would you feel about, well, being a sort of shrink for me? Lately there's been alot on my mind and I feel like I need to vent."
As Dwan poured Pippin a glass of Diet Coke, he hears what Lion tells him. "Isn't Jeb our technical shrink? But the bar's here for venting too, so feel free to vent if you want.", he tells him as he hands Pippin his drink.
[wait, Jeb's now awake, it just happened when Deathgrunt was posting about his stuff]
edit: [I was busy all yesterday pretty much]

[I was talking about how you are a "Morale Specialist". Wouldn't you say that your position is similar to that of a shrink?]
[yes, but Lion went to the bar because he thought Jeb was unconscious...that's all I'm saying]
edit: [I see no reason why this current conversation should be stopped. Jeb is ready for conversation, though.]
There was surprising, relativity low amount of pain for Viper during the operation as the doctors continued working on the wound. The hole seem to have missed any vial organs, if can really call the crystal like structure within Viper's body a organ.
Overall, the damage was fairly minimal. The suit and shell took most of the damage, as the explosive charge seem to have directed it's power though the Viper, leaving while a deep but rather small hole in the Sanghvi.
The hollow charge seem to have been designed to go though someone attempting to thrown them self's over the mechanism, going right though them and releasing it's power from there wound.
[Oh, well I thought that Jeb was still knocked out.]
Lion gave Dwan a quick smile. "Good, good." Lion let out a deep robotic sigh. "Did I ever tell any of you how I turned up in this body?"
"Well, with all that army talk, I always assumed you turned up in your body through war related matters. But no, I don't recall you telling anyone how you turned up in your body.", Dwan tells Lion.

[understandable, I'd say Jeb is still bound to the med bay for a while though. Kinda hard for me to gauge how long it should be for him to stay that way, though]
Jeremy walked up to the large sphere they've just sacrificed blood and limp to get for Harken Saw. He stood there as things corrupted his mind. "I'd be one pissed off Captain if this isn't the piece of the Oracle." He muttered to himself. "You have any idea how this thing works?" He turned to the Major, facing forward. "Not a clue, probably your standard artifact laid to waste millions of years ago." She said which gave the Captain a chuckle.
"The piece of an Oracle, Harken Saw tells me it's a power source. What exactly does it power up?" Jeremy asks, she couldn't give him a direct answer as she wanted to find out herself. "I don't know, if this Oracle can serve as an unlimited resource, can you imagine how many people would risk their necks just for this thing?" The thought gave her goosebumps, no man could resist such power and technology at the palm of your hands.
"This could lead to a huge level of power within HarkArk you know this right?" Jeremy said to her. "I know, but I can't see the alternative with the Crimson Son getting it." She said exposing the Crimson Son's intention to get the Oracle to it's finalized form.
"Well, with all that army talk, I always assumed you turned up in your body through war related matters. But no, I don't recall you telling anyone how you turned up in your body.", Dwan tells Lion.
"You're partly right. I'll give you the short version: a few years ago back when Humanity was first accepted into the UGC there was, as I'm sure you're familiar with, the unification of Sol.
And as you probably know this whole ordeal went pretty fast, the new government got installed and the military and infrastructure got reorganized.
When the government banished all religion and the fanatic nutjobs alongside it, my friend Reed and I signed up to the Sol System Marine Corps."
He paused and slid over a small holopad which projected an image of two smiling soldiers infront of a blown-up tank.
"We fought on Luna, Phobos and even Mars. Out of the battles we participated in I can honestly say that the battle for God's Refuge was the biggest one: we went toe-to-toe with the Divinity Creed militia.
After the battle, Reed and I received medals and commendations for our service alongside one of the elite units. We were promoted and sent to the Special-Forces Academy.
Sparta-Unit was born. Our primary task was to prevent criminals and terrorists from hurting the people of Sol. We did this for years, sometimes we were sent out system to track down some of the surviving fanatics and larger terror groups.
Then came one day, routine raid on a derelict station orbiting Luna. Intel suggested that a smaller group of terrorists were squatting the place, appareantly they had restored it and turned it into a chemical weapons storage.
In, neutralize all hostiles, secure the weapons and then get out. Those were our orders."
Lion clenched his hand and looked down.
"We pushed through the station unchallenged, they were no match for us due to their lack of training and the fact that they were pumped with various hall hallucinogenic drugs.
We got to the main storage room, found the leader and his best and most fanatical followers. Reed took him out, clean shot through the head. We thought that we had won when all of a sudden one of the followers started crying.
She then screamed and let out the chemicals. The remaining fanatics died in an instant. We rushed back to the ship. The gas was right behind me and Reed."
Lion got a distant look in his robotic eyes.
"I knew we were never going to make it. I told them to seal up the ship. The gas caught me and Reed. A few days later I woke up, I knew something was wrong. Everything felt different and when I looked myself in the mirror I saw this."
He pointed towards his face. "Then I got the news about Reed. He didn't make it. I did. I went to his funeral, gave my condolences to his family. Watched the marines fire the three shots and salute.
I then resigned, they understood. After that, I freelanced for several years before I turned up here."
He laughed. "Sorry, that wasn't short at all."
Dwan listened to Lion's story intensively. He couldn't have known how this affected him. "And, after all these years, you still can't forget that day?", Dwan asked him.
