(( Thanks killer, I think I can rejoin now. )) After dropping off in the medbay, Varn had asked Sledge to stop him if he ever went berserk. Sledge had replied that he would, but wouldn't be happy about it. He asked Varn to do the same for him if the need ever arose. Sledge went back to his quarters to see Hercules, curled up and sleeping on a pile of laundry next to Sledge's cot. Herc briefly lifted his head to receive a few pats to the snout before going right back to sleep. Reaching into his bag, Sledge found his little portable music player. Lion had helped him download a bunch of the music from the ship's computer onto it at one point. Apparently though Lion had tried to transfer ALL of the music, in chronological order, onto the device. Of course, the music player had run out of space somewhere in 2015 and was therefore packed with 400-year-old music and nothing else. Laying down on his bed, Sledge flipped through the music for about 20 minutes before coming to rest on "Foo Fighters." He wasn't sure if it was supposed to be Kung Foo or short for Fool Fighters or what but the music was good so meh. He laid back and fell asleep, listening to the music. Sledge was on the battlefield with his comrades back in the 82nd platoon. They were shoulder to shoulder in the trench, waiting for the order to open fire. Suddenly, another recruit grabbed Sledge's shoulder. "Cover me! I'm going in!" The recruit hoisted himself up the side of the trench. Sledge looked down and realized he hadn't brought his gun. He tried to shout out to the recruits that he was supposed to cover but they just kept jumping out of the trench and running down this giant hill towards the park's soccer field. "Dammit," Sledge thought, panicking, "I have to tell the commander." He started to run but realized he hadn't finished building his legs yet so he kind of just fell down in the trench. Grabbing some nearby Tinker Toys he started building but he couldn't get the pieces to fit together right to make feet so he just kinda got bored and stood up. He walked over to the command building where all the officers were and found Lion. Sledge told him that he had something really important to tell him but then suddenly he couldn't remember what it was and just stammered instead, which really annoyed Lion and was really embarrassing. Suddenly they both had to go to the War Room which was also a Chinese food buffet and Sledge had to tell the news how the war was going. He kept trying to say it went good but his microphones kept falling over so he had to try to keep them all upright while talking into them. By the time he got it all right he was out of time and had to sit back down at his desk. Suddenly he remembered that he had to leave to go back to helping with the war so he raised his hand but the teacher Ms. Yanim wouldn't call on him. His classmates started to laugh as he realized that he was way too old to be in school anymore. Yanim turned around as she posed a question to the class. Seeing Sledge with his hand up she asked him for the answer but he couldn't remember what the question was. "Why did you let him die?" Yanim repeated. "Who!?" Sledge replied. "John Pastermack, he was the recruit!" "What? I... I didn't mean to! What happened to him?" "Stepped out the front door like a ghost into a fog where no one notices the contrast of white on white!" sang Yanim, with an accusing glare. Sledge woke with a start. The music had continued playing and had looped around to some other band which was not nearly as appealing as what he was listening to earlier. Who the hell was John Pastermack anyway? Not anyone Sledge knew. He wasn't ever even in the military. He looked at the time and noticed he'd been asleep for however long it's been since he dropped Viper off. He probably needed to check in with the rest of the crew. If there had been any PA announcements he probably didn't hear them due to the music. He left his room and wandered around for a bit with Hercules, wondering where everyone had went. He finally found a large crowd around the armory. "What's going on here?" he asked aloud, to no one in particular.
[If so, I'd like to keep your character on as an NPC. It's useful to have a surgeon on board.]
(( Nah bro Sledge has it covered. ))
"Training, plain and simple." Jeremy responded, shooting a few targets at the center in seconds.
Dwan knew Lion was being honest to him. "You don't need to send me the footage. You could send it to Jeb, as he's the real shrink, if you want.", he told him. He then realized what Lion said. "Don't you trust the crew?", he asked him.
"Training, plain and simple." Jeremy responded, shooting a few targets at the center in seconds.
"Sorry, Captain, I guess I'm behind the curve," Sledge added, "I would like to offer my services as an instructor/human training bag."
Jeb tried on his armor, it fit very well and felt comfortable as well. Jeb twisted his arms from side to side, testing his new range of motion. Feeling satisfied with said range, he looked over at Varn. "You said you have a personal matter you wanted to speak about? When's a good time for you to talk about it?" [if it has a lot to do with character development, I wouldn't mind if you used Jeb as an NPC if I'm not here]
"Good, I need more people to instruct their members." Kira said sternly as she turned to Sledge. "Sledge, the Major." Jeremy turned his head as he wielded his Hawk. He then went back to his focus.
"Nice to meet you, ma'am. Security Officer Derrick Hammer at your service. Most call me Sledge, on account of the hammers. This big guy here is Hercules. He's a Dracobin. Careful about touching him though. He ate a few hundred pounds of dirt yesterday and is shedding quartz dust all over the place." Sledge looked back at the sandy trail of white dust that Herc had left while trudging through the hallways.
Varn went back into the armory. Best to make sure everyone at least tried on their armor. The room was getting crowded. "I would like to offer my services as an instructor/human training bag." "Don't hit his jaw, you'll brake your fingers." "You said you have a personal matter you wanted to speak about? When's a good time for you to talk about it?" "Yeah, I have some problems. We can meet up after training." "Major, you can sign me up as the squad tactics instructor."
Dwan knew Lion was being honest to him. "You don't need to send me the footage. You could send it to Jeb, as he's the real shrink, if you want.", he told him. He then realized what Lion said. "Don't you trust the crew?", he asked him.
"Of course, I'd give my life for all of you. For the past few months you've been the closest I've ever had to a family in a long time, I finally have a new purpose again. That's why I don't want tbe entire crew to know about my problems, as it could lead to people thinking that I'm inadequate." Lion shrugged. "I guess I'm afraid."
"Of course." The Major nodded to Varn. "So Major Greene, when was the last time you've ever trained at your local training academy?" Jeremy asked Greene felt a sensation of surprise someone would ask that question, it's been a long time since she ever trained at boot camp. "10 Years of Military service." She replied. "How old are you?" "30." "So you've worked your way up then since the age of 20?" "19 to be exact."
Dwan was surprised by Lion's comment. He didn't think anyone on the crew really cared for him in particular. Truth be told, he saw the crew more as acquaintances than friends. But he saw Lion as the closest thing to a friend he's had in a while. "You shouldn't be afraid to speak up about your problems, Lion. I bet the crew would be quite understanding...", he said, as he suddenly looked down to the floor. "...though I sometimes wonder...", Dwan said, without any context.
Lion nodded. "You're probably right, thanks Dwan." Lion spotted Sledge and was reminded that he needed to show him the weapons made for Herc. He put his left hand on Dwans shoulder. "If you ever need to talk or help with anything, don't hesitate to ask. I appreciate you listening to my problems alot, friend." He then walked away to see Sledge and Herc. "Yo Sledge!" Lion began petting Herc while sending away tiny electric pulses for added comfort. "I did something for Herc, mind coming along?" Lion pointed towards the equipment table that was currently partially occupied by a large crate.
Dwan watched Lion walk away to see Sledge and Hercules. Dwan began looking at his left hand, before deciding to leave the armory. As he went to the bar, he kept staring at his left hand. By the time he got behind the counter, he started wondering to himself. "Could I tell Lion the truth about myself? Would he still think of me as highly as he does now if I did? What would the crew think about the truth?", he wondered. "No, I can't tell anyone. If anyone knew the truth, or even alluded to it, no one would think of me the same.", he thought to himself.
Iska took a deep breath and shook her head before walking over to the major. She paused and waited for the major to turn around. She looked down on her, "You have anything for Iska" she said with narrowed eyes.
Kira waited in thought as she observed the woman towering over her. Kira remained in focus, she could tell just by the look on this Khergian's face that she had the natural hardened personality. As was expected of Khergians. Chances were likely that adrenaline were a large factor for endurance and strength. Perhaps they could go there but she ought to be careful, if pushed over the limit she might go to rage and become uncontrollable. "When was the last time you've sparred with anyone?"
Iska raised an eyebrow. "Normally or in focus?" she replied?
Lion nodded. "You're probably right, thanks Dwan." Lion spotted Sledge and was reminded that he needed to show him the weapons made for Herc. Sledge and Hercules walked over to the table, full of energy and excitement. [editline]25th May 2015[/editline] (( By the way, I know I requested that Iska be moved to the brig a few pages ago after her freakout on the swamp planet but I'm just going to retcon that since I wasn't around to see it through. I thought it would have been nice for some character development stuff but it would be kind of awkward to do it now. So I'm just going to say that Sledge assumed the captain declined his request and then later got over it when he saw Hercules was all better. ))
"Both, with your build and "mind" its best we tame it, control it, improve it." Kira said to put it as light as possible, she crossed her arms. "You know what I mean?"
[We could still act it out at the bar later, after Iska is finished with the major] [editline]25th May 2015[/editline] "Iska last focused on last mission, causing trouble for crew" she said with ashamed expression on her face. She then gave the major a stern look, "Is not something that can be controlled, is curse" she paused "All Volgrim are cursed. Is long and complicated and long story."
(( Yeah, Sledge will probably confront Iska about it later but I don't want to make a huge deal out of it anymore. ))
"Explain." Kira asked for her to share. She already admitted herself, if she caused trouble in their last mission the chances for this to happen again would probably increase. There must be a way to fix that.
Lion clicked on a button, causing the crate to open up in an instant. A hologram activated, showing a Dracobin in blue with several armor pieces and weapons highlighted in red. "Meet the LWA Spartan Tactical Rig." Lion picked up a large metallic armor piece that looked much like a insect-like carapace. "Flexible nanofiber carapace that can be stretched out without sacrificing protection. A large utility pack can be mounted on it, providing ammo, a medical stretcher, a communications package, beacons, flares and a trauma kit." He picked up what appeared to be a set of claws. "A pair of metallic claws mounted on Hercs rear feet. Dampens shock while adding more effect to his kicks." Lion moved on a picked up a helmet-like piece. "Adaptable headgear which provides cover for most of his head and two extra rows of titanium teeth. During hostile environments the helmet can fold down a visor over his eyes while a small rebreather connected to the main armorpiece provides oxygen." Lion put all the pieces out on the table. Before continuing. "And finally; the LWA Ares Dual Shock Cannons." He picked up a large cannon which was easily mounted on the side of the carapace piece. "With links to Herc's neural cortex, these cannons are fired through thoughts. Alone they can easily eliminate a small group of hostiles, together they will decimate an entire enemy force." Lion gestured towards the table. "It's all yours, make sure to train him well with them. The cannons are currently firing blanks, just incase."

((Okay, I guess Viper123 never saw the edit to my last post. Still can't get you on Steam, so I give up. Tell me about the modifications later.)) Yanim arrived at the engineering section to find Skada and one of the maintenance droids waiting for her. Using the engineering override code as a password, she ordered the droid to release the Crimson Son parts. Labeling them as "Article X" on the ship's security systems, she then placed them into a storage locker with a biometric lock, programmed to accept Iska, Yanim, Kr, and Jeremy's fingerprints to unlock. For the personal components she received from Lion, she arrayed them onto her workshop table and began to upload their profiles into the holographic workspace, using saved files from both the Knight project as well as the Mantis project as templates to construct her new helmet. After about ten minutes of fiddling around, she reached a configuration which worked for her. The front section would be designed to replace the outer shell and goggles of her mask, which could be swapped out easily using the release mechanism below her right ear. This front section would attach in the back to a "top" section which would house her head and ears. Finally, a "jaw" portion would attach to the front section and would have its release mechanism under her left ear. The whole arrangement would be easy to equip and remove, and would allow her to continue using the lower portion of her current mask. She also left room in the back to route the YS-X, although it was currently not ready. She wrote a short message to Joseph:
Dr. Heilburg, I would like to schedule an appointment for a short surgical procedure. I will need a very small sample of my brain tissue for a bio-electric culture experiment, the design for which is enclosed.
Sledge stared in stunned surprise as Lion went on and on and on with more and more amazing features. When Lion finished, Sledge turned to Herc and grinned. "Do you think you can carry all that, buddy? Lion's gonna turn you into a mobile weapons platform!" Hercules answered with a series of emphatic clicks and yelps, skipping a bit in place, definitely beside himself in excitement. "Alright, Lion, you heard the dragon. Let's load him up!"
Arthur sighed, having finished most of the cleanup needed after the explosion in the Medibay. The last day or so had been... rather stressful. Arthur needed to do something to keep his mind occupied. He thought and thought, until he realized that he could finally use the next couple of weeks of near enough free time to advance on his own personal experiments. Arthur grinned to himself with excitement, as he made his way to the zoo chambers to pick up one of the acquisitions that Mr Saw had so kindly donated a week earlier. Once there, Arthur settled on a subject rather quickly. His eyes lit up at one of the little kitties, staring at him through the bars of its cage with its big eyes. He carefully took it out and began stroking it, to calm it down and bring it back to the lab with ease. He began talking to the critter. "Aww, who's a cute little kitty? You will be... perfect, given enough time. If that cold bitch Yanim gets to create a pet, I get to make one too. Heh... I doubt you'll even toy with Squish's allergies. Come on now..." Arthur cooed to the cat, as he walked off back to the lab. Not everyone may appreciate the beauty of his new pet, but he was sure they would in time.
Iska thought about it for a while, but decided that she would have to tell the major another time, when she had more time to spare. "Iska is sorry, Major. Isks will have to go into detail to tell everything, will have to wait for another time." Iska discussed further with Kira about her combat experiences and then decided to visit the messhall to get something to eat. [Ok heres the deal, I will post the story later but it will have to wait until the weekend. As I said this is the last camp in the army, aka "the final war", so I'll be quite busy the rest of the week. Just sitting down typing this for like 10 minutes I got "killed" by two scouts :v:]
