Andron stared at the bartender. "Dreaming is not required for maintainence. Electric sleep is merely a concept of a question if machines have the same qualities as other organic liveforms." Andron turned around to check for recent arrivals. "Perhaps no member on this vessel has not identified me as a self-learning AI in this unit."
[I'm going to assume you meant to write sheep instead of sleep.]
"Well, are you a self-learning AI?", Dwan asked in response to what Andron said.
Andron waited in thought as the bartender asked it a question it just answered already, holding back Andron simply answered. "Does that question require a yes or no response? Or should this unit answer a full explanation on how it just said it is a self-learning AI 5.23 seconds ago?" It asked with curiosity.
"Well, considering your monotonous voice, I wasn't able to tell what you meant in your last sentence. However, you just confirmed you are a self-learning AI. So, no answer is needed.", Dwan said clearly.
Yanim was getting annoyed with the circular conversation going on around her as it was distracting her from her arithmetic, although she was mildly interested at the creative engineering which must have gone into producing Andron's AI. She finished her drink, but just as she was about to request another there was an announcement from Varn:
Guys, were making a list of teams for training. If you prefer to work with anyone, now's the time to let us know.
Yanim rolled her eyes as she initially expected to be called out of the bar only one drink in, as usual, before realizing that she could respond with a simple message. She typed out a reply, requesting Iska as a partner for training, as the two complimented each other well both in skills and in combat specialization. Once she had finished, she began to request her drink again, when suddenly her tablet buzzed with an incoming call.
Hey Yanim, I have some extra engineering supplies. I don't suppose you would be interested in those? It's mostly extra NewGen tech components.
Now this was something worthwhile. "Of course... ah, what sort of components are we discussing?"
"Internal tech parts mostly such as proccessors and such. There's also some inertial dampers, basic heat shields to counter plasma overheating."
Lion chuckled. "Maybe you could beef up Skada or something?" He said jokingly.
Pippin, in the hangar inquired about the teams. "Do you think maybe I could work with Jeb or Sledge and Herc? If not, I guess I can team with anyone.
Varn went back to his office. He was making the list of teams. A few members of the crew had come by to voice their preferences. The list was a rough draft, it still needed refinement. For now it looked like this:
Iska-Yanim
Arthur-Joseph
Pippin-Jeb
Dwan-Sledge
Dolosus-Jordon
Turatko-Isaak
Otso-Michelle
John Riker-Lemmy
François D'arragant-Byron
Pyrovik-Zach
Saint Tussor-Khaen-suas
It still needed some work, but the crew would show where corrections were needed. Varn submitted the list to the ships messaging system. "Attention folks, the first draft of the list is now available. If you have any complaints, Ill be sitting at the bar for 1 hour." He got up and made his way to the bar.
Dwan notices the announcement made by Varn. After giving Yanim another glass, he sent a message to Varn. "I'm not sure who to have as my training partner. You and Lion should decide that.", he wrote.
After sending his message, Dwan wondered about the rest of the basic personnel. Pyrovik switched to pacifism as far as he remembers, Tussor is kinda miserable and Byron thinks he's a pirate. Zach, Colin and him seem like the only ones from the basic personnel fit to actually fight. As he thought about it, he noticed how Andron hasn't said anything since he answered his question. "I'm just gonna assume 16 is your favorite number.", Dwan said offhand towards Andron.
Soon, Varn messaged again, sending a rough list of training partners. "Sledge and I? If this happens, I better bring my hammer.", he said. A bit later, he noticed Varn get into the bar.
"That number isn't my favorite, but it comes close." Andron answered, it thought of some questions for the bartender. "Why do you serve as a bartender?"
"It's relaxing.", Dwan said. "You get to meet all sorts of people and hear all sorts of stories.", he elaborated.
"Have you shared stories before?" Andron turned at him, and analyzed this bartender's appearance.
Iska had been in her room, adding onto her battle tattoo on her left upper arm. Each Volgrim clansmember had a similsr tattoo that documented each individuals personal life, in the end it would cover the whole sleeve. After she had finished she got up and went to her most visited place on the ship, the bar.
As she got in she saw yanim sitting sunken into her tablet. She walked past Andro and tapped him on the head "hello, tinman" she said with a playful tone. She greeted Dwan with a nod and a smile, and Dwan took out a bottle of bloodmoon strong, the usual. Iska took a swig and then turned to Yanim, "Anything happen while Iska was gone?".
"Of course. I'm known for my stories. Though everyone describes them as 'other worldly', whatever they mean by that.", Dwan answered. "I'm not in the mood to share stories, though. Today's been stressful for everyone.", he said. He notices Iska enter the bar, greeted by a nod and a smile. He pulled out Iska's usual and gave it to her.
"Have you shared stories before?" Andron turned at him, and analyzed this bartender's appearance. He looked ordinary obviously.
[If I'm not mistaken Dwan was pretty short with a dwarflike beard, which is pretty out of the ordinary afaik]
"I have detected that." Andron said when it went planetside with the others. The Divinity Creed were perceived as holy men who thought that old religions like Islam, Christianity, etc needed to be preserved for the morale of Humanity to stay strong. Then the Crimson Son came in to make everything 100% worse. "The upcoming training will provide the efficiency needed to eliminate larger threats."
Varn entered the bar and sat at his usual spot. He somehow didn't notice Andron until he sat down. "Oh hey big guy." He turned to Dwan "Just a beer would do good Dwan, I need to be able to remember things."
"Unu bieron!", Dwan said as he gave Varn a beer, practicing his Esperanto.
((Okay so my sleep schedule is so erratic right now that I dozed off after my last post, and woke up in a panic thinking it was 4AM instead of PM. It didn't even occur to me that light was pouring in through my blinds until after I got out of the bathroom and only then did I realize that there was no way the sun had started rising that early. That's lucky, because I have an online quiz due at midnight, tonight. I had to look at this page to figure out when I had last been awake because I honestly couldn't remember anything that happened after class this morning. I'm drinking a coke that I don't remember fixing for myself that still has ice in it. :v:))
Internal tech parts mostly such as processors and such. There's also some inertial dampers, basic heat shields to counter plasma overheating. Maybe you could beef up Skada or something?"
Yanim smiled both at Lion's humor and also at the spread of parts available. "Hm," she replied, "just about all would be useful on my current work. I'm ordering a drone to retrieve it." Skada's ears perked at the word "retrieve," and he let out a quick yip. Yanim shook her head at him and hushed him. "Skada, no. Kisk vertik shnkileta! <You're too small!>" She rustled the fur on the top of his head and he laid back down at the foot of her barstool.
Lion overheard the exchange and chuckled. After Yanim thanked the chief enforcer, they started to wrap up the call. About that time, Iska walked into the bar and asked Yanim whether anything had happened when she was away.
"Spaska, Iska. The captain has cleared us for work on the cybernetics; they are in a locker at the engineering workshop, biometric lock. You're already cleared and I've told the captain you will lead the project. We'll be monitored by him and the Privateers, otherwise no-go. Also, Arthur is very upset about this whole affair. He showed his ugly side to the captain."
Iska seemed curious. Yanim sneered.
"Arthur strikes me as the type of man who cannot swear in front of his mother, but if you were to become intimate with him he would kill you and wear your skin."
[I'm confused as to what training the crew is doing, sorry about all that]
edit: [I seem to be a on a roll with getting the top of new pages it feels like]
Iska raised her eyebrows, "If captain ok with cybernatic work, very good." she said while raising her bottle to take a swig. She paused, frowned and looked at Yanim, "You are afraid of Arthur, yes? He cause trouble, you find Iska." she said and emptied the bottle.
"...He cause trouble, you find Iska."
"Oh, I'm not afraid of him," Yanim replied with a flippant tilt of her head. "I'm just... expecting him to do something inadvisable. And believe me, I will."
[The training is meant for the non-combat crew, to get better at combat. I'm not sure if it will get role played or if it will be a montage]
Varn overheard the conversation. "Anything I should be worried about, Yanim?"
Lion chuckled after hearing Yanim order Skada not to retrieve the supplies. "It's okay, they're on a repulsor cart so it shouldn't be too hard to move them."
Kira and Jeremy walked out of the Bridge, it was an interesting take on events, notably the Crimson ships. "I'm surprised, very. How did you manage to escape from them?" She could felt the tension they've went through. Jeremy sighed and smiled. "A lot of luck, a few ship upgrades, and a pretty good crew." Kira stared and wanted to say sketching but couldn't feel the urge to spit it out.
"Right." She narrowed her eyes. "We should start training soon." Jeremy nodded and called up Varn.
"Hey Varn, is everything set for training?"
"Anything I should be worried about, Yanim?"
Yanim shook her head in response to Varn's question. "His hostility concerns me, but I exaggerate. He hasn't threatened me with anything specific. I appreciate your asking."
"If there's anything, just let me know. Its what I'm here for." Varn took a swig from his beer, when he received captain Jeremy's call.
"Hey Varn, is everything set for training?"
"Lion build a course. We have a list of teams. And I believe the crew is mostly ready and eager. Go ahead and give the order to meat in the hangar."
"Cool, I'll be there." Jeremy disconnected and gave a thumbs up to the Major. He needed to make a huge announcement. "Attention all personnel, please meet by the hangar bay and stand by until further instructions. Thank you."
Pippin, already in the hangar, sat on top of a crate and waited for the others.
Jeb heard the call to go to the hangar, he wasn't sure what all of this about, but he decided to go there anyway.
