Hey Zilla I did specifically state in my turn IPSA would only be screening inbound ships and planes, not ones departing Ireland. It doesn't make sense for them to screen departing planes, we're trying to keep an infection out of Ireland.
Zilla pls [editline]12th May 2017[/editline] nvm saw your profile message.

A squad of North Koreans, furious with China’s apathy, open fire on Chinese patrols. 11 Chinese troops and 28 North Koreans are killed in the fighting, a further 30 from both sides wounded. After a short and heated debate in the National People’s Congress, China’s troops observing the North Korean border move in - North Korean forces buckle under the combined weight of NATO and China. Pyongyang is the last holdout of North Korean resistance, and the nation's capital is put under siege. The location of North Korean nuclear weapons is unknown, as is the whereabouts of Kim Jong Un. Otherwise, the war in Korea is coming to an end - A massed shooting takes place in Toronto, Canada. 28 are killed and 100 wounded before Canadian police are finally able to stop the 4 attackers. This coincides with the bombing of the Moscow subway, as the Islamic State and its affiliates attempt to do as much damage as they can before their last cells are wiped out in Syria and Iraq - Sudan declares victory over its recently independent south. The UN condemns Sudan, and the Arab world begins placing sanctions on the country as it has further destabilized relations in northern Africa, but it does little. A brutal counter-insurgency begins, with villages being subjected to genocidal rampages by the Sudanese government - Freetown Fever slowly spreads east into Ghana, Togo and Benin. Refugees begin spilling eastward or northward, attempting to flee the infection. Governments rapidly begin to collapse in these countries, and all hell breaks loose - The infection spreads rapidly northward,, affecting Mauretania and parts of West Sahara. The nations of Liberia, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone are effectively defunct, as all communications with said countries go quiet. Millions are feared dead, but hundreds of thousands more are feared infected - Freetown Fever arrives in eastern Africa. Either having arrived by refugees settled by the UN or some other means, Somalia and Kenya confirm reports of infected individuals moving through the rural areas. The United Nations now puts the disease at the top of its priority list, as many fear it may have made its way to densely populated central African nations like Congo or the CAR

- Seeing the success of Scotland’s policies with mainland Europe, Ireland chooses to invite European banks and businesses to start setting up shop in the Republic. Here, Irish citizens are able to tie themselves more closely to Europe’s economy, thus strengthening ties with those outside of the isles - Despite not being sanctioned by the Irish government, an enormous pro-unification protest takes place in Dublin, and a sister protest takes place in Belfast. The Irish in these areas demand that Northern Ireland be returned to the southern Republic, and that the UK exit Ireland entirely. No word yet from May or the British government - The IPSA refines its searching and screening techniques. Outbound aircraft and ships are taken off of screening, and inbound transports are no longer quarantined forcefully, and instead are searched from the inside out. Crew and passengers are scanned by doctors attached to the IPSA, trained to simply look for “out of the ordinary” symptoms. Cargo is sent through huge X-Ray machines to check for “contraband”, but many know that its real purpose is to check for biological threats - The IPSA and coastal law enforcement agencies are re-trained with usage of a heavy baton, mace and taser. Despite knowing these, the world’s knowledge on such LTL weapons has changed, and the training is appreciated by those in high crime areas. IPSA agents in particular are given rapid response training with the H&K USP pistol and AR-15 rifle. The latter sends shivers down the spine of Troubles survivors - Enda Kenny conducts a press briefing addressing concerns regarding the arming-up of the IPSA. Citing the collapse of Sierra Leone and its neighbors, Enda Kenny stresses the fact that Ireland is no bigger than most of those nations, and that if there is no response, the nation could be lost - With the introduction of European factories, Heckler and Koch sets up shop in Cork, and is made the official supplier of small arms to the Irish army. Firearms such as the G36A2 and MSG90 rifles and the P2000 chambered in .40 S&W begin to phase out present arms of the Irish military - A handful of armored vehicles, including the Marder 1 AFV, TPz Fuchs APC and Fennek LARV are purchased from Rheinmetall. These are welcome additions, as the Irish military was desperately lacking in mechanization, and these heavy vehicles are more than ready to take a beating should the situation come to it - The Irish Navy comissions a new Samuel Beckett-class offshore patrol vessel to assist the IPSA in its searches and policing of Irish waters. The ship will be constructed at the newly expanded Babcock Marine dockyards in Scotland - The Irish Navy also begins design and construction of a Ler-class light frigate. Armed with 3 40mm autocannons and 2 Exocet missiles, the Ler-class bristles with weaponry and armor. Its only drawback is its weight, and it barely meets the “light” designation. Despite this, the Ler-class is expected to be launched by late 2022 - Irish military engineers begin testing a form of “caseless” artillery munitions. Using a series of plastics and new powders, the Irish design a 105mm shell that, when fired, expels all powder from the breech and leaves only a fine powder of the plastic “case”. The only drawback is that the breech is rapidly fouled, and miniaturization tests have yet to be conclusive

- With the assistance of US forces, 2 Ōsumi-class Tank-landing craft slam onto the beaches of Wonsan Harbor. Enormous numbers of Japanese troops hit the beach, now assisted by Type 90 tanks and attack helicopters. The weakened North Korean forces are driven back, but not without taking enormous losses defending every last inch of their home territory - Japanese naval forces do a devil’s dance with North Korean submarines, as the DPRK’s submarine fleet becomes increasingly strained and stretched out. 16 Sang-O class submarines are either sunk or forcibly scuttled in and around the Sea of Japan. However, 2 Japanese Hateruma-class patrol vessels are brought down off the coast of Sado Island by unseen submarines - A Sinpo-class SLBM-capable submarine surfaces and surrenders to Japanese forces off the coast of Oshima. The submarine is scuttled, its nuclear payload carefully disarmed and dismantled - A huge number of armored vehicles, specifically the Type 87 AFV, are purchased from Japanese developers. As fears of NBC attacks become common amongst the front lines, the Japanese don’t wish to risk their men falling victim to such threats, and instead push for NBC sealed armored support as soon as possible - ASW patrols in Tokyo Bay drive off 2 Sang-O class submarines. One goes missing while another is sunk by coastal patrol aircraft, her crew being lost with the ship. North Korea’s submarine fleet is growing increasingly desperate - Japan makes a series of purchases from the United States. 3 Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Carriers, 10 B-1B Lancers and 45 Tomahawk Missiles are purchased from the US to bolster Japan’s fighting ability in North Korea. 3 of the Lancers are immediately used in deep strikes against installations in Pyongyang, doing significant damage to the city - Quietly, Japan begins purchasing thousands of pounds of rare earth materials from Madagascar. Their purpose is unknown, but many expect it to be used for electronic equipment - A B-1B lancer is filled to the brim with pamphlets and packages of food, dropping its payload on Pyongyang. Within it lie demands for surrender and the public arrest of Kim Jong Un and his cabinet, and promises of more food for both civilians and soldiers if they cooperate with NATO. Thousands of North Korean soldiers begin surrendering to NATO troops within days, but word of Kim Jong Un’s status is unknown - Despite China’s hostile stance towards North Korea and bad relations with Japan, the Chinese accept Japan’s deal to take in 500,000 North Korean refugees, and a further 1.5M to transport to South Korea or the United States in return for Japanese troops pulling out of the northeast of North Korea. Oddly enough, the Chinese have no issue with the presence of other NATO forces - Crown Prince Naruhito is named Emperor in a lavish ceremony in Kyoto. There, at the ancient palace, Naruhito is given his title, and addresses the nation of Japan. His 20 minute speech moves the nation, and pushes for a more open and friendly Japan, and is “prepared to welcome the future” - The 500k North Korean refugees are sprinkled throughout Japan in Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Kyoto, Osaka, Niigata, Sapporo and Tokyo. Each individual is given roughly 1.6M yen a year for the next 5 years (Equal to $15k) and free housing. They are immediately brought to re-education centers set up in schools, and given a crash course in Japanese. Despite being in Japan for only a few months, many of these refugees fit in nicely, and are grateful for Japan’s offer of sanctuary - In a testing field, Japan unveils the Type-1 “Shinobi” uniform. Somewhat bulkier than the regular uniform worn by Japanese troops, it is covered in absorbent “patches” that reflect infra-red scanning. Essentially, when spotted by thermal imaging cameras or scopes, the outline of the soldier will be broken up, making it difficult to have a precise shot, and at a distance, the soldier is almost invisible

- A quick deal is struck between Madagascar and Russia. In exchange for their powerful strain of potato, the Russians will keep troops stationed in Madagascar for a smaller fee. This potato will drastically reduce food import demands in poor areas of Russia, and its hearty nature will benefit the citizens of Russia greatly - In response to the potato deal, the Russians station 5 Spetsnaz groups and 3 Mi-2019 helicopters in Madagascar. These troops are relegated to their base and rarely seen outside of the ports other than to enjoy the nightlife. The helicopters, however, are regularly used to assist in construction - A cooperative trade deal is formed between Angola, Namibia and Mozambique. In return for Madagascan assistance in their ailing tech industry, the three mainland African states will export raw materials to Madagascar. A fairly one-sided deal, but the mainlanders have little choice as Europe and America have largely abandoned them - In return for the potato, the gulf states of Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE will begin exporting oil to Madagascar. Most of the oil is immediately shuttered away in stockpiles rather than being purchased by civilians. In the event of an emergency or national shutdown, the oil is desperately needed - Pakistani and Indonesian migrants begin flocking to Madagascar to assist in the mining and tech industries. With such a small and niche market in the nation, highly skilled engineers are desired, and both of the massive muslim nations have an overabundance of them - The Antananarivo Stock Exchange begins construction in the nation’s capital. Here, international bankers and investors are able to put their money into the nation, and the Madagascan government hopes that money will come flowing in after the construction of the building. Already, some Chinese prospectors are keeping a close eye on Madagascar’s province - Mining efforts are expanded within the nation. However, most mines are kept on the western side of the nation as to not disturb the rainforests, and every tree removed must be replaced in kind with an extra tree, to stop the rapid desertification of western Madagascar - Fiber optic cables are laid in major cities as the Madagascan government hopes to link the entire nation in a web of cables. The process is slow, expensive, and only benefits the rare upper class household, but if the communications program goes through, the nation may enjoy a massive boost to internet usage - The Madagascan government pushes for the entertainment industry to grow in any form. Most of it comes through local folk music being recorded and exported, the albums being bought by artists and culturally aware individuals in the Americas and Europe. Otherwise, Madagascar’s entertainment industry is stagnant - A massive propaganda campaign takes place, with imagery of Grand Marshal Ndrianarijaona smattered along city streets, including a large bronze statue standing in the center square of Antananarivo. Most of this is to rally support to the new government, but also remind the populace as to who’s in charge - As the Madagascan government begins moving a regiment of troops into each major city, a huge construction program begins. On Madagascar’s relatively unsettled beaches, small pillboxes begin cropping up. Here, troops can rapidly deploy and begin opening fire on those that threaten the beachheads of their nation. It is not uncommon to see comparisons to Hoxha - A major technological breakthrough takes place thanks to European engineers present in Madagascar. Known as bioasphalt, some small roads are repaved with a combination of starches, sugars, salts and resin. Relatively waterproof and easily repaired, these roads don’t absorb as much heat, and help reduce the urban warming in cities

- In an attempt to ensure national security, President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP institutes a restriction on border flow, as well as forced institution of quarantines for those arriving from affected countries. This drastically reduces the number of refugees arriving from other West African states, and puts a damper on fears of widespread infection - “Plan Green” is initiated in Nigeria. Areas with high economic value, low crime and “favorable geography” are declared as “safe zones”. Within these safe zones, government institutions are constructed, alongside military installations. To top it off, the Nigerian government begins building walls around these areas, making it easier to force combatants into a “choke point” - Hospitals and brothels are monitored by government agents. Those with known bloodborne diseases, be it hepatitis, HIV or the recent outbreak, are closely monitored. This breach of human rights doesn’t go without protests, but Jonathan is able to quell fears with talks of “public safety” and “national security” - Unemployed individuals are given the chance to make a quick buck by working government construction programs. These programs focus on the construction and formation of safe zones, as well as walls around major rail/roadways, as well as working with military personnel to keep an eye on incoming refugees - Known as the “Great Wall of Nigeria”, a fortification process of Lagos begins. Measuring 4 meters tall, lined with razor wire, and a meter thick, this sloped concrete wall begins its formation around the city. In the event of an infected outbreak, the nation’s largest city would not become an easy target. Government operations begin moving to Lagos slowly, as the nation prepares to centralize itself - In a shocking move, the Nigerian military manages to strike up a deal with Boko Haram, the terrorist group still operating in the jungles of the nation’s northeast. If Boko Haram wishes to cooperate in controlling the infection and administering safe zones, Boko Haram will be allowed to send a representative to Nigerian parliament. Surprisingly, Boko Haram agrees, and a ceasefire has been signed, ending an 18 year insurgency - Conscription is widened to include younger and older men, as well as lengthening the term that these men serve. A new form of training is introduced, for in the event of an infection, for troops to aim for the head, helping reinforce the rumors that the infected are more easily dealt with a blow to the head - Known as “Super Yams”, researchers from Lagos unveil an extremely hearty form of sweet potato. Able to sustain intense heat, little water, floods or even snowfall in some tests, the Super Yam will be the key to solving the hunger crisis in Africa. Its only drawback is its length of growth, taking roughly 220 days to fully mature - There are reports of incursions of infected crossing over the Benin border as the Beninese defense force fails to keep their nation intact. The Nigerian army is mobilized to engage, but no evidence is found other than the bodies of refugees found butchered, possibly by disgruntled Boko Haram fighters

The helicopters, however, are regularly used to assist in construction - Russia outright condemns the actions of North Korea, and officially begins supporting NATO troops in the Korean Peninsula, using spy aircraft to monitor North Korean movements. With the entrance of China into the war, Russia simply keeps an eye on refugees making their way towards Vladivostok - After quiet meetings between Putin and Xi Jinping, China recognizes the Collective Security Treaty Organization, though does not become an active member. However, in the event of attack or crisis, China would pledge its support towards the Russians. This draws serious concerns for nations like Taiwan and India, as well as spooking many American senators - Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are drawn back closer to Russia, officially joining CSTO. Despite having fairly anti-Russian sentiment within their governments, these two nations feel that tensions are rising to rapidly to be left neutral, and feel that the more connected CSTO is the winning side - Putin condemns the actions of terrorists within the middle east, as is regularly on his schedule, but also raises an important point. The mobilization of Iran, his ally, and Turkey, facing the recently independent Kurdistan threatens to destabilize the region significantly. Russian observers push for a diplomatic talk between Turkey and Kurdistan, but the talks fall through - Putin pleads with Chechnya to begin cracking down on terrorists within their region. Quietly, Putin threatens to drag Chechnya back into Russia as a non-autonomous Oblast. Chechen leaders are slow to respond, and Putin grows increasingly impatient - A blast ripples through the Moscow subway on a cool April morning. Police rush in to respond, and are ambushed by gunman as they attempt to enter the subway. After a Spetsnaz group interferes and brings down three attackers, the day ends with over 63 killed and roughly 250 wounded. Vilayat Kavkaz, the Islamic State affiliated terrorist group in Chechnya claims responsibility. Putin vows revenge - With this, recruitment campaigns are pumped through in full. Russia even asks for foreign volunteers to come to assist in the “Final war against Islamic extremism”. Thousands of young men, having done their time as conscripts, return to fight. The bear has been awakened, and her claws are out - 10 Zubr-class hovercraft are commissioned to be laid down in Sevastopol. In the event of Russian intervention in the Middle-East or North Africa, these naval craft can easily transport troops onto the shores of whatever nation needs their assistance, as well as being able to deploy armored vehicles such as AFVs, IFVs, APCs or MBTs - Known as the “Norillag”, or a huge former Gulag in Norilsk, Siberia, is converted into a research station. Here, “dangerous biology” can be handled without risking innocent life. The two Spetsnaz troops, infected by the disease, are brought here for study. Surprisingly, the Russian government allows UN observers to oversee the disease, pushing for a “global effort to destroy disease of any and all kinds”. Significant steps are made in understanding the biology of the disease - Also deployed at the Norillag are a series of meter tall cubes. Within these cubes are twin PKM machine guns with 100 round belts each. These cubes scan movement, check heat, and check for special “tags” worn by personnel. If the heat signature is clearly human, and does not display a tag, the turrets will open fire until told to stop, or their ammo runs empty

- The United Kingdom pushes for the “fortification” of Europe’s mediterranean coast with Italy, Spain and France, as refugees begin pouring out of the Maghreb, fleeing the infection in western Africa. France already takes a stand of turning back any refugees that attempt to land, but Italy and Spain are not as enthusiastic - France and Britain form the “Anglo-Franco Economic Cooperation Association”, or AFECA, in order to tie the former EU nations closer together. On the surface, it seems like nothing more than a trade deal, but many know that it is meant to keep the two nations afloat in the event of the inevitable financial chaos about to hit the EU, and then the world - A handful of domestic oil refineries begin construction in Cardiff and Liverpool. Here, the United Kingdom can begin to be more reliant on itself for oil, importing only crude. This infuriates many of the Labour voters in the cities, but May uses it as a chance to rub their face in a successful British economy - 15 Static Anti-Strike Guided Missile System (Sausage) missiles are purchased from the United States in order to counteract any possible SLBM launch towards British forces making their way towards North Korea. Otherwise, Britain pushes to become totally independent in its construction of submarine and other naval forces - A handful of autonomous drones begin scanning the Ivory Coast to ensure that refugees do not attempt to board observing British ships, and to keep an eye on the movement of the infected. British drones capture the footage of three infected individuals attempting to swim out towards the boats, but drowning and being washed up on shore shortly afterwards - British naval forces leaving Brunei open fire on North Korean submarines near the Philippines. One Sang-O class is sunk, another surrenders and is forcefully scuttled. Sonar detects a third submarine, but all efforts to try and find the ship are fruitless. Nonetheless, ANZAC forces are set on high alert just in case - The Special Expeditionary Force (SEF) in western Africa is now outfitted with the Bulldog Anti-Riot armor and P90 Personal Defense Weapons. Their main focus is still to observe and study the disease and understand how it works, but are given full ability to do anything in their power to stop it from spreading further. The SEF is regularly seen leading refugees across rivers, and then blowing the bridges once the civilians are across. Many infected drown in the rushing waters - In order to support the SEF, the HMS Queen Elizabeth is sent with a full compliment to the Ivory Coast. With orders from the ground, the British conduct the occasional airstrike on masses of infected with surprising efficiency. However, the strikes are small, with only a handful of munitions or a simple gun run used to reduce possible civilian casualties - The British military unveils a new “firearm” known as the Mk.I Directed Light and Radiation Rifle, or DLRR. Using a series of concentrated blue-green and red lasers, as well as a microwave emitter, the DLRR can temporarily blind enemies on its low settings, or poke a hole in drones at higher settings. It is largely non-lethal, and its effects are only temporary. Its major drawback is the fact that it is ludicrously expensive, and requires a battery backpack to use, giving it at most 60 seconds of continuous “firing”

- American Marines, with the help of the Japanese, begin the second battle of Wonsan Harbor. This time, with air and armored support, the North Korean defense quickly has its back broken, and are overrun in hours. Casualties amongst the defenders are enormous - Airstrikes are conducted on Pyongyang in an attempt to kick down the door of North Korean government operations. With the introduction of China against North Korea, the US halts its actions against North Korea’s capital, instead putting it to siege. Pyongyang is surrounded, and the war’s end shall come soon - Another Sang-O submarine is sunk, this time off the coast of Honolulu. Before being sunk however, the submarine’s crew bailed, and scuttled the ship. They were unable to be saved, many of them choosing to end their own lives for some mysterious reason - America sells a handful of important military equipment to Japan, including B-1B Lancers, Tomahawk missiles and Wasp assault craft. Most of these sales are meant to reduce America’s overgrown stockpile, but also fund the construction of more advanced forms of equipment. This sale also gives Trump some form of satisfaction despite his term on its way out - As Japan takes on 500k refugees, and exports 1.5 million more to Europe and the United States, Donald Trump shocks the nation in his decision. A further 650k North Korean refugees are settled within the United States, throughout states like California, Texas, Illinois, New York and Virginia. These refugees are given a $10k/year stipend and a crash-course in English. Donald Trump’s approval ratings lurch back up to 20%, but only because humanitarian actions are easy publicity - The campaign trail heats up as Perez and Mattis begin jumping across the nation. Perez focuses on the major cities, hoping to turn some of the more red states at least light blue. Mattis, meanwhile, makes long stays in suburban and rural areas, only occasionally stopping in major cities. However, a Mattis rally in Los Angeles attracts huge numbers of supporters, including those that voted for Hillary over Trump in the 2016 election - The construction of The Wall continues, as the final blocks along the Californian border are laid. Already, nearly 4 billion has been spent on the wall’s construction, which is now beginning work on the Tex-Mex border. Fears over Mattis’ apathy over the wall strike both sides, Republicans afraid that he will halt construction, Democrats afraid that he will allow it to continue - At Fort Hood, American engineers test the latest in armored vehicle technology. Known as the M2A1 “Schwarzkopf”, this new tank features sloped, reactive armor, a powerful 135mm gun, two FIM-92 rocket mounts, and a major breakthrough: a crewless turret. Instead, the M2A1 is pancake-shaped, with the crew snug and protected in the body of the tank, rather than risking people inside the turret

2020 Presidential Elections After months of hard campaigning and electioneering, Thomas Perez and James Mattis finally sat down and watched as the numbers ticked in that November 3rd. As the west coast closed, Florida edged over into blue, and many Republicans feared that it was all over. Despite that though, Michigan and Wisconsin stayed red, and the waves of both popular and electoral votes for Mattis began to roll in. By the morning of November 4th, Thomas Perez announced that he would concede his defeat to James Mattis. With 276 electoral votes, and a shocking 15 point popular lead over Perez, Mattis is set to be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. Protests were few and far between, but all of them held the moniker "Mattis The Murderer" in regards to his military career. Despite this, many on the left were pleased to see the choice of Michelle Howard, the first African American woman to achieve 3 star rank as a US Admiral. With strong, level headed military minds at the head of the executive branch, America hopes to see a less volatile and more productive future
