Beijing (0400 Beijing Time) Xi Jinping and the heads of the Chinese military gathered around a series of televisions. The room was quiet, sans for the heavy breathing and whispers from those displayed on the screens. The officials stared intently, watching a group of Chinese special forces silently make their way up the stairs of the abandoned factory. The night was dark, and the night vision goggles could only make out so much in the lightless building. The room flinched at every creak in the steps, and every click from equipment moving up and down on the soldier’s belts. A trickle of light stuck out from beneath a door at the end of the hallway, and the soldiers froze, raising their weapons. The radio crackled to life. “This is entrance team. Confirm target presence, over.” “You have a go” Jinping said in response. The milliseconds of latency passed, and the soldiers made their way towards the door. A boot swiftly ripped the door from its hinges, and the soldiers swarmed in, guns at the ready. Screams of ‘get down!’ and ‘raise your hands!’ were repeated over and over. There, at the center of the room, sat the disheveled and sweaty visage of Kim Jong Un, his shirt torn, hair unkempt, and the bags under his eyes a deep purple. Un looked up and seemed to stare directly at the Chinese men in the room. Lifting his hand, Un closed his eyes, and squeezed a clacker. The feed cut out. The room remained silent. Man I just feel so compelled to post in this thread today I don't know why.

July-December 2020 World Events - A hydrogen bomb is detonated in the center of Pyongyang. Hundreds of thousands of civilians are killed instantaneously. Tens of thousands more are affected by the burns and radiation. At least 800 coalition forces are caught in the blast, and nearly 3000 more are treated for burns and radiation poisoning - Kim Jong Un, the dictator of North Korea and the third in the Kim dynasty, has been confirmed dead after detonating a hydrogen bomb lodged beneath the basement of a hotel he was using to hide out in. The instant Chinese troops stormed the room, a pocket detonator was used, setting off the weapon - North Korea officially surrenders to the NATO-Chinese coalition. A huge number of government officials have defected over the last year and a half of fighting, but many that would be charged with war crimes and brought to justice were vaporized by Un’s final actions as dictator. A pro-communist insurgency has begun throughout the occupied zones, but much of it appears to be starving North Koreans raiding outposts for food - A firefight along the Indo-Pakistani border kills 11. It is unknown who caused the incident, but 8 Indian and 3 Pakistani troops are killed, with more than a dozen wounded on both sides. India and Pakistan pull their embassies from one another, and begin mobilizing their armies. War may soon take place between two nuclear belligerents if the world does not step in to stop it - The Euro-African Crisis Coalition (EACC) is formed, beginning Operation Reclamation. With the member nations of France, the United Kingdom, Nigeria and - surprisingly enough - Ireland. With support from the fractured governments of infected nations, and countries neighboring the infected areas, the EACC conducts numerous air strikes and raids to both halt the infection and rescue civilians. The EACC is joined by Japan, who gives a significant medical and air support presence to the Euro-African forces - Freetown Fever explodes throughout West Africa, as millions of infected are reported swarming into heavily populated nations along the African coastline. Coalition forces do battle with the oncoming hordes, while in the east, Kenya and Somalia are rapidly overrun - Despite the best efforts of the EACC, infected groups continue to push into Sub-Saharan Africa. The French and Nigerians take their time with strikes, and try their best to avoid civilian casualties. Much to their chagrin, as they push farther in the west, the infection boils up in the east - An American B-2 Spirit flies over the infected city of Conakry, Guinea. 2 GBU-43/B MOABs are deployed 15,000 meters. The bombs make their mark, and drones observing the impact confirm over 2500 dead infected. However, most of central Conakry is obliterated in the blast. The action shows that the United States is prepared to take any actions necessary to stop the infection from getting out of hand - Reports of a derelict ship carrying refugees to Brazil are confirmed as the ship slams into the ports of Macapá. Hundreds of infected refugees and crew spill out onto the docks and are quickly engulfed by the urban environment. The Brazilian government declares a state of emergency and has deployed troops to the area - In lieu of anti-Tory protests in London, and anti-UK protests in Belfast, a series of pro-UK marches are held throughout Northern Ireland. Late one evening, as a DUP sanctioned march is wrapping up, gunfire breaks out in the streets of Belfast. 23 protestors and 6 police are killed while over 200 are wounded. The battle rages on for 9 hours before the 4 attackers are brought down by rapidly deployed SAS. The men killed claim to be part of a “Revived IRA”, and recently posted a manifesto declaring a “Holy, racial and unending war for Ireland’s unity” - Researchers in New Zealand and the Nelson International Medical Laboratory release new information regarding Freetown Fever. The virus acts as a parasitic “janitor” for the host, releasing endorphins to block pain and repairing damaged tissue rapidly. However, far more horrifying information is revealed. Freetown Fever may have the ability to be spread by mosquitoes in the right environment.

- The Irish economy is once again bolstered by the investments made by European companies setting up shop in cities like Dublin, Cork and Galway. Here, Irish citizens can work for companies like Volkswagen, Saab and Volvo. The European Union, though shaky, stays somewhat intact with these decisions - The Irish armed forces begin a massive recruitment campaign, plastering posters at subway terminals, bus stops, and even go as far as to send recruiters to secondary schools. The main message, rather than the usual “defense of the homeland”, is changed to be “defense of the world”, and pushes a strong anti-infection message - 6,000 Irish soldiers are sent to Gibraltar to bolster British defenses in the region, though only a handful actually defend the dockyards. A majority of the troops are sent to West Sahara, where the “Aed Line” is formed. Here, the Irish begin a slow push south, supported by strikes from the Irish navy - Military and contracted private aircraft conduct airlifts to support French and British forces on the ground, relieving the latter nations’ air forces. The Irish may not have deployed that many troops to the battle, but their support is more than appreciated as the French desperately hold the line in Mali - In a shocking turn of events, the Irish accept a proposal by the British to have all lower echelons of the Irish military involved in Africa to be under British commanders. Though the troops will not be held accountable for disregarding British orders, they are nonetheless under the scrutiny of the British military, which raises some serious tensions at the boot level - Taking cues from the recent advancements in caseless artillery munitions, a handful of scientists experiment with a miniaturized form of the new ammo. Known as the XM-2020A, this 25x105mm cartridge is entirely independent of brass. The tip is a solid steel penetrator, and behind it is a massive load of explosives. When tested against lightly armored vehicles and concrete, XM-2020A rips a massive hole in whatever it touches, and plasters the target behind/inside with molten hot shrapnel. Due to its lack of a case, XM-2020A can be loaded into 15-20 round magazines rather than the standard 5-10

- In an attempt to comply with Chinese demands, Japanese troops pull south, and leave a 50 mile distance between them and the edges of the NATO/Chinese occupation zones. Beijing, worried more about the tensions between India and Pakistan, and the possibility of other hidden nuclear weapons, are largely indifferent - With the war in Korea having been wrapped up, Japan turns its sights on Africa. Pulling a variety of loopholes out of their rear end due to the presence of Britain and France in western Africa, Japan ferries a Wasp-class and two Izumo-class ships to the British half of the blockade. Japanese helicopters begin carrying out support fire missions against the infected and rescuing trapped civilians - Thousands of thousands of firearms and millions of rounds of ammunition are sent to Nigeria to support the Nigerian effort against the infected. This action is greatly appreciated, and the general standardization of the North Korean arms allow for smoother logistics chains, and the classic Russian design guarantees reliability in the environment - Japan moves 3 B-1 Lancer bombers and several F-5 ground-attack aircraft to a base in central Nigeria. Over the course of a few weeks, Type 87 reconnaissance vehicles are deployed to the base alongside members of the Japanese Medical Defense Corps. Japan plans for 50,000 troops, most of them battle-hardened veterans from Korea, to be sent to aid the Euro-African forces - Japanese aircraft begin testing a variety of munitions on the infected, hoping to find the most effective. Unsurprisingly, any munition that can kill large groups of people prove to be useful, meaning that just about anything that can poke holes in flesh gets the job done. Japanese F-5 pilots find using the main gun turns infected groups into hamburger meat - Groups of infected are coaxed into designated shooting zones by use of flashing lights and loudspeakers. It appears that the infected are attracted to the light and sound, possibly believing that the infected see the lights/sound as presence of prey. Nonetheless, a rapidly deployed Japanese helicopter is confirmed to have nearly 60 kills over the course of a few minutes before the infected scatter - Trade with Maghrebi Africa and Afro-Arabia continues, as Japan becomes the sole trade partner to these countries while most of the west closes its doors to Africa. Most of the trade is raw materials back and forth, with minimal personnel on the ships. Those that arrive in Japan are ruthlessly screened top to bottom, the crew put on a required 24h quarantine - A “Global Travel Alert” is put out from Japan, demanding that all Japanese citizens present in Africa return immediately. Those that do are put on a 48h quarantine and are given a massive health screening. All flights and ships bound for Africa as a whole are grounded, and a travel ban is put in place on non-citizens arriving from Africa - From Miroku Corp., a new assault rifle is developed for the Japanese military. Chambered in 6.5x39mm ‘Grendel’, the Type-20 rifle has a unique feature: integral suppression. Sustainable for up to 400 shots, this thick black tube allows the user to spray its target with minimal noticeability. The Type-20 is best suited for special operations, as replacing the suppressor is a lengthy and expensive progress

- A huge trade deal takes place between Madagascar and Russia. In return for the usage of bio-asphalt and the training of Madagascan troops, the Russians gift 5 “Auto-Cubes” to the Madagascan military. The deal happily goes through, and the cubes are deployed around government centers, though never turned on - Known officially as the Southern African Security Organization (SASO), Madagascar forms an alliance with South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia and Botswana in preparation to fight against the oncoming infected hordes. Madagascar heads the alliance, and opens a small naval base in Maputo, Mozambique to deploy Madagascan troops on the African mainland. Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho are considered “protected observers” of the alliance - At home, Madagascar prepares a massive food bank. Purchasing huge numbers of seeds, grains and dried goods from foreign governments, as well as harvesting food at home, the Madagascan government readies itself for the long haul in the event of total global collapse. Food drives are common at schools and businesses, and large distribution centers are formed near poor areas to dole out food - A desalination project begins on the west coast. Securing a small portion of unprotected land, using Saudi technology, the Madagascan government begins purifying thousands of gallons of saltwater to make fresh drinking water. The process is expensive and time consuming, but the payoff is well worth it, as the water is used for both drinking and farming - Russian troops present in Madagascar begin training the local troops on basic combat tactics. However, the Russian Spetsnaz gather a small group of Madagascan volunteers and begin training them in ways only Russians deem acceptable. These troops are organized into “Madagascar’s Fist”, and are hardened soldiers ready to be rapidly deployed for any instance of danger to the state - Over 30 tanks, largely surplus T-62, T-72 and T-80s from the former Soviet Union, arrive in Firebase Majunga. These tanks are distributed to parts of the Madagascan military, and a handful are sent to Maputo in the event of infected presence. Madagascar gets a massive edge over its compatriots with these vehicles - Researchers in Madagascar begin testing a genetically modified life form known as a “Dry Bean”. These hearty legumes, similar to peanuts and lima beans, are extremely resilient to droughts. Using DNA from Californian pine cones, these beans become “dormant” when dry, and can be planted years after being completely dehydrated, and will grow into full plants. Dry Beans are planted by the thousands in the sandy areas of Madagascar, waiting to be watered should the need arise

- As the war winds down in Korea, New Zealand makes a purchase of 3 F-35 Lightning II aircraft from the United States to bolster the RNZAF. At a demonstration, Queen Elizabeth II makes a surprise arrival to observe the Kiwi pilots do stunts and low passes. As Elizabeth watches from her wheelchair, she waves to the pilots who in return do the F-35s signature “curtsy” during a hover exercise - Military practices begin between New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand, whose force is much smaller than Australia, acts as a foreign aggressor in the trials, giving them a slight advantage. Significant knowledge is gained regarding the use of surface-to-air missiles and anti-submarine warfare - At the United Nations, New Zealand reveals the country’s “Green Grid Initiative”. Using wind, solar, tidal, geothermal and nuclear, New Zealand prepares itself to move to 0% usage of fossil fuels for the nation’s energy. Alongside this, New Zealand hopes to soon have one of the world’s most extensive public transportation systems. With the new WaveTek technology recently developed at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand has reduced its carbon footprint significantly - New Zealand holds a lottery in the UN administered areas of West Africa. 500 refugees are to be sent to New Zealand every month for the next 6 months, which would end with a total of 3000 individuals arriving. Upon arrival, they are immediately quarantined and given medical assistance for any problems they may have. The following months will be a crash course in English, mathematics, science and basic engineering in hopes of getting the refugees used to New Zealand society. Refugees that prove to be adaptable and assimilate to the local populace are given the opportunity to become permanent residents - Marijuana is legalized in New Zealand parliament. Those 18 and up with proper identification are able to purchase up to 30 grams of the substance at a time. However, all stores are required to have a minimum 15% sales tax, and the penalty for selling to minors is a lengthy prison sentence. College students celebrate in the streets - The “Save the Kiwi” foundation is formed by the New Zealand government. Hunters are given a $60NZD reward for every wild dog, stoat, ferret and feral cat killed, as all of these are invasive predators of the resident Kiwi bird. Rewards are also given for those turning in wounded Kiwis, moving them across roadways, or otherwise assisting the squat avian mascot of the nation - Samples from West Africa arrive in droves to the Nelson International Medical Laboratory. Scientists unveil that the virus has a powerful reconstructive ability inside the body, and naturally produces endorphins to block pain, meaning that infected individuals are largely resilient to inflicted injuries and can heal rapidly over the course of a few days. The research has also produced something horrifying: the virus has the possibility of being spread by mosquitoes.

- Nigerian troops join the EACC in Operation African Reclamation. As the first waves of infected begin entering Nigerian territory, the Nigerian army responds in kind with ruthless efficiency. Unlike the Europeans, the Nigerians deploy hundreds of thousands of soldiers as a response, and dig in deep along their borders to stop the oncoming hordes - Nigeria offers “Defensive Aid” for their neighbors, on the condition that they become semi-autonomous states of Nigeria. The Benin government, having largely collapsed, begs for the assistance. Nigerian troops occupy the capitol building in Porto Novo, officially annexing the tiny west African country - Areas with more than 300 confirmed infected are declared “no-go” zones. There, hastily set up checkpoints and barbed wire are installed to discourage civilians from entering them. Of course, the occasional looter makes it past the fences, and are either shot by guards or manage to bring back goodies to sell on the black market - At home, the Nigerian government campaigns for protein-rich crops to be grown in place of large livestock herds. Chickpeas, brussel sprouts and broccoli farms begin popping up as farmers begin to sell off the last of their cows. The move helps save the nation some money, protect the environment, and preserve a much more reliable food reserve - In areas near waterways, farmers are encouraged to build small fisheries. The fish provide a quick protein supplement to the vegetables, as well as a variety in diet. Quietly, the government uses these fisheries as a quick warning regarding the infected, as their ability to travel through water has been proven to be quite pitiful - The Green Zones begin reforming their infrastructure. Thanks to Boko Haram now being part of the government, these reforms go through smoothly. Higher walls, elevated roadways and a series of deep trenches are built to try and make it more difficult for the infected to breach the population. Elsewhere, waterways and irrigation are given a checkup, with huge meshes being installed to prevent waste and possible infected from entering the drinking water. Even the slightest added defense could save hundreds of lives, and Nigeria isn’t going to take any chances - Bath houses are closed, prostitutes are registered and regularly checked upon, and those with registered STDs are quarantined for a short period of time before being allowed to rejoin the general population. The move is highly contested by the public, but little can be said as the government regularly pulls the “muh infection” card - Militias are installed in each green zone, and are autonomous from the central government. They can only act within their own zone, preventing spats between governors, but their autonomy makes their commanders more comfortable. In the northeast, as the infected enter Nigeria proper, reports of former Boko Haram affiliated militias charging the infected with machetes are confirmed as over 85 are killed and nearly 200 infected - Old fashioned “pig sticker” bayonets, similar to that seen on the Mosin Nagant series of rifles are deployed alongside ice pick-like knives. These are used to deliver a powerful, focused strike rather than a slash, and can breach skulls/ribs. These prove effective when troops are overrun, but few live long enough to make compliments or complaints when in close quarters with the infected - Large pieces of sharpened steel on the front ends of trains, known as “rail blades”, are installed on all trolleys and trains within Nigeria. When tested against a series of captured infected, the blades quickly rip them in half or snap their spines, where they are then crushed by the train’s wheels. The hilarity that ensues in infected areas is a significant boost to the morale of soldiers

- A huge trade deal takes place between Madagascar and Russia. In return for the usage of bio-asphalt and the training of Madagascan troops, the Russians gift 5 “Auto-Cubes” to the Madagascan military. The deal happily goes through, and the cubes are deployed around government centers, though never turned on - Firebase Majunga, the massive center in northeastern Madagascar, is made even bigger thanks to bio-asphalt and the assistance of the local Madagascan volunteers. A small airstrip is created, and on it lands 15 Mikoyan MiG-31 interceptors, 3 battalions of Russian troops, 3 Tu-95 “Bear” bombers - and most shockingly - 3 FOABs. These massive bombs carry a 44 tonne yield of TNT, and their purpose is not yet known - Russian diplomats in Turkey make one point very clear: If any action is taken against CSTO members, including but not limited to the support of terrorist groups, Russia will bring down “a hammer that will flatten Turkey”. Erdogan turns to his NATO allies for assistance. Europe looks the other way, and Trump is preparing to leave office. Turkey is isolated - To show Turkey that they have a point, the Russians prepare a massive exercise in the Black Sea. With nearly 60,000 troops taking part, alongside aircraft and ships, the Russians are joined by other CSTO members, and Exercise White lasts nearly 2 weeks. This corresponds with the huge recruitment campaign of the last year, and over 75,000 new volunteers are pushed to their limits as training changes to meet the modern standard - Over 3,000 ‘Ratnik’ uniform sets are purchased from suppliers to outfit the Russian military. Most of these uniforms are sent to those in Firebase Majunga. This comes as Russia prepares to modernize every aspect of its military, as it is seriously lacking in the technological edge that it once had decades ago - The first organized meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) takes place in Teheran. Syria, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Belarus send their delegates to Iran. China and Serbia acknowledge the meeting, but are not present at the meeting. The meeting is not behind closed doors, and instead broadcast publicly, similar to NATO meetings. The world watches with interest as CSTO prepares to become nothing less than the strongest alliance in the world - At home, in retaliation for the subway bombings, the MVD, FSB and BVB move out in a nation-wide raid on Chechen and other Islamic extremist compounds. Thousands are captured in the raids, and those found with weapons or plans to commit crimes are summarily executed on the spot. The vicious move shocks the world, but few can respond with cries of anger - A series of private investors and inventors unveil a massive breakthrough in clean energy. Known as the “Солнечный ящик” (Solnechnyy yashchik) [Sun Box], this lada-sized fuel cell produces enough energy to keep a city block running for days with minimal waste. The Sun Box is immediately ordered in the hundreds by the Russian government, who hopes to become independent from their own fossil fuel reserves

- British troops slam down into Western Africa, working alongside the EACC to begin Operation African Reclamation. African countries surrounding the infected area open themselves up to house EACC aircraft and troops, and give whatever supplies they can. However, most of these countries are unwilling to send troops of their own, and just hope that the Europeans can do their best - The second British carrier air group is sent to western Africa to assist in the massive operation. Thousands of sailors and aircraft are dedicated to the operation, and it is a sight to be seen, as such a move hasn’t been done since the initial response to Saddam in 1990 - With the Bulldog armor finally in use, British troops are regularly saved from infected individuals as the armor is effective enough to stop bites, and its sealed nature prevents the leakage of infected bodily fluids. Hundreds of infected corpses are sent home for study, as well as a handful exported to New Zealand’s research center for further examination - British bombers move out in force, laying down significant heavy fire. Thermobaric and incendiary munitions are used with impunity, and the number of dead infected begins to skyrocket. However, British operations are blamed for the deaths of hundreds of civilians trapped within infected areas. Theresa May has little to say regarding the situation - At home, in a surprising move, Britain nationalizes all steel industries on the mainland. The Tory government claims that this action will keep Britain ahead of the game and “Make Britain Industrial Again”. The Green party holds a small protest in London, they themselves claiming that it will have a serious impact on the environment - The Tories push desperately to try and keep a positive view of Britain in northern Ireland. Theresa May sends multiple representatives to Belfast, and holds a handful of rallies in favor of the British government. They are immediately met with enormous counter protests as Irish nationals demand that Britain return Northern Ireland to the south - In lieu of anti-Tory protests in London, and anti-UK protests in Belfast, a series of pro-UK marches are held throughout Northern Ireland. The men killed claim to be part of a “Revived IRA”, and recently posted a manifesto declaring a “Holy, racial and unending war for Ireland’s unity” - At Webley & Scott, after the company purchases the contract for the Mk1 Directed Light and Radiation Rifle (DLRR), a new model is completed. With a more focused beam, the Mk2 DLRR is able to inflict third degree burns at up to 300 meters away. The backpack is reduced to a small satchel that sits on a soldier’s belt. However, the largest drawback remains that, despite its energy efficiency, the Mk2 DLRR is still larger than the average rifle, and can only be operational for a few hours on a single charge

- The elections for US president are over. James Mattis prepares to take his place in the oval office. Donald Trump quietly congratulates Mattis, but has otherwise not been seen outside of the white house for months. At a press meeting a week after the election, Trump is visibly haggard, his voice scratchy and soft, and his eyes showing a sign of deep depression. The flair of the soon-to-be-former president of the United States is completely gone - In one last action to secure his legacy, Donald Trump signs the “American Travel Safety Act” (ATSA) which completely bans any/all travel to/from Africa. Congress and the Supreme Court does little to fight the order, as it actually does something unlike the largely useless ban of early 2017 - The United States begins mobilization for possible intervention in Africa. National Guard drills take place nationwide, and the navy is once again put on high alert. Aircraft begin fueling up, and it is not uncommon to see the chiefs of staff meet for up to 10 hours every day - An American B-2 Spirit flies over the infected city of Conakry, Guinea. 2 GBU-43/B MOABs are deployed 15,000 meters. The bombs make their mark, and drones observing the impact confirm over 2500 dead infected. However, most of central Conakry is obliterated in the blast. The action shows that the United States is prepared to take any actions necessary to stop the infection from getting out of hand - At DARPA, a series of tests reveal America’s newest weapon known as the X-GBU-2020, more commonly named the “Wasp Swarm”. The X-GBU-2020 is in fact a large collection of small, knife-like pieces of shaped steel attached to a small electronically controlled rocket motor. The X-GBU-2020 is unique, as its targets are designated by an autonomous drone. When the targets are designated and confirmed by an operator, the X-GBU-2020 is deployed in groups of 15 at a time, the rockets fire and are guided towards the object. At impact, the X-GBU-2020 is moving at well over 450 meters per second, absolutely obliterating whatever it hits
Japan would like to communicate its support of the first option to the international community, but will accept the third or fourth option if our western partners insist. We would also like to communicate our willingness to remove all armed forces from Korea, including observers if demanded, on a permanent basis if it makes the total reunification of Korea under the legitimate Seoul government possible.

Ireland is curious why world leaders that don't exist are voting :v:
Gib clay.
I forgot to include Nigeria in the voting but it appears that all of their diplomats are currently betting on how many zombies can be tossed in front of trains before it gets stuck
i support option 2 or option 3 i don't have any reasons, i didn't even read it
I included NPC nations (and will update the graphic accordingly) largely to show current standings, and to allow for a couple of non-player votes
I included NPC nations (and will update the graphic accordingly) largely to show current standings, and to allow for a couple of non-player votes
Surely by non-player votes you don't mean the aliens who voted for option 2 just to troll me on the discord
New Zealand supports Option 1, it is time to reunite Korean families.
Great Britain adopts the stance that while option 1 is desirable, option 3 with a soft border between the two nations can appease all Korean factions and ultimately lead to a long-lasting peace.
