The Disunited States of America - A colonial-era RP

Well the idea was that if 80% of your national budget is going toward building a navy, your country is probably going to have a severe economic crisis. However in hindsight and some thought about it, it's a terrible solution to a problem that isn't that big. For one, it would make more sense to just give a limit on how many ships you can own altogether which I don't want to do, and for another, it'll just press players to find ways to "force" their ships to be cheaper which will just eat up their turns doing that instead of what they want to do.
I try to avoid budgets/numbers in RPs because in one of the first rp games I ran (not on facepunch) people had a national budget to play around with, and one of them knew maths and in about five turns he had increased the size of his economy by a factor of 30

Jesus christ I remember that. It was awful. He completely outstripped everyone else and tanked our economies by association just because his was so fantastic.
Maybe a decent way could be a "tonnage limit" in which larger ships might have a value of like 10 but small ships might be just 1 or 2. That way you could have a few large ships or many smaller ships. There might be an "optimal amount" that other people might figure out and stick to but I dunno just throwing ideas around.
I think honestly just having a turn timer on construction is enough. I doubt anyone is going to abuse it so badly to justify all these high effort ideas.
I just have one more turn to write and it will be out. I may write it tonight depending on how work goes, if not then definitely tomorrow morning EST.

Republic of New York - Native Hunter
President: Alexander Hamilton
Capital: Albany
Largest City: New York City
Dominant Religion: Methodist
-Going into the new year, New York continues its war against France. Basing off its conquest of Martinique the previous year, an invasion of the French islands Dominica and St. Lucia is launched in the late winter. Though smaller in size, the New York Army finds the French militias somewhat more prepared than the previous islands. A token battle is fought on Dominica, with few losses to the New Yorkers. The sea defenses fight a little harder, however, with the NYS Oneida and Mohawk confronting the French brigs Suisse and Fromage. The battle takes over an hour, with both sides getting off well placed shots, but the Mohawk's main mast is blown off, leaving it unable to maneuver successfully. Rather than continuing the battle handicapped, the NY navy retreats back to Martinique with the French successfully defending St. Lucia from invasion.
-Though the continued expansion of the Caribbean territories have mixed success, the colonial government seeks to solidify themselves in what already have been taken. Forts on Guadeloupe and Martinique rebuild with preventive measures of an island siege in mind. Cattle, pigs and sheep are brought in while access to fresh water and food crops are established to make the island's forces self-sustaining.
-Militias of local freedmen are established on the islands as an auxiliary force with New York officers at the lead, though drilling becomes difficult as orders are often relayed through an interpreter, slowing movement and the teaching of soldiering to those who often have never held a musket before.
-News of the Peace of Basel reaches Albany in July. President Hamilton decides that it may be best to make peace with France as well while the war is still in New York's favor and envoys are sent, through Spain, to barter on a ceasefire. A deal is reached later that month with favor to New York. The NY's acquisitions are recognized, while the captured NYS Holland is returned to salvage the honor of the New York Navy.
-With peace and new opportunities in the Caribbean open to New Yorkers, carpetbaggers make their way southward. As French landowners decide to leave in favor of France or the newly established Kingdom of Louisiana, New Yorkers begin buying their estates and plantations, organizing the new freedmen of the region as partner sharecroppers.
-Knowing that, while peace is here for now, war with France could be renewed at any time, gunsmiths are set up throughout the Republic of New York to produce muskets and canon for the defense of the islands and arm the militias there.
-The navy as well is replenished, with the launching of the frigates NYS Seneca and NYS Tuscarora. To add more naval support to the colonial Caribbean, four cutters (NYS Neptune, NYS Jupiter, NYS Mars, and NYS Saturn) are built for Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Dominica, while the frigate NYS Andromeda (1798) and two brigs NYS Io and NYS Europa (1797) are laid.
-Despite official peace between New York and Franc persists throughout the rest of 1795, news of harassing French privateers around New York trade routes reach President Albany. Though Paris says that they are not under their orders, with the chaos of the French revolution, it is difficult to determine if they are agents of France or the ships are working on their own ends.
-While peace with France is still fresh, a number of accusations from Paris and Madrid fly toward Albany, claiming of undermining their rule in the Caribbean. Both from central Cuba and the port of Santo-Domingo, eyewitnesses claim to have spotted a ship flying New York colors giving arms and aid to the enslaved negroes. While France, with memories of Hayti still in their mind, clamp down hard on their uprising, the rebellion in Cuba spread throughout the center of the island and continues into the next year.
-Towns are established in Africa around Fort Midas and Abraham as trade begins to pick up with them. Missionaries, already spreading throughout the American Republics, find their way to west Africa as well in attempts to proselytize the Good News to the local negroes. The Caribbean also see a number of Methodist preachers arrive, hoping to turn the local Frenchmen and negroes away from their papist origins and to the true, bible-believing Christianity.
-To help New York's expansion into its west colony and perhaps fund the British war against France a bit more, Albany offers to purchase Fort Miami in the northern Ohio territory and Fort Michilimackinac at the tip of the Michigan peninsula. While the sale of Fort Miami seems good and geographically sound for the British, they decide to retain Fort Michilimackinac for its strategic access at the south of their colonial area, as well as to keep the region safe from any possible threats from the newly established French Kingdom of Louisiana.

Commonwealth of New England - Griffster26
Interim National President: Samuel Adams
Capital: Boston
Largest City: Boston
Dominant Religion: Anglican Puritan
-To safeguard the independence of the Commonwealth of New England, the militias of New Hamphsire are incorporated into the greater standing army. They are drilled along with regular soldiers to keep them up to pace and make them a viable fighting force.
-In order to expand the military, three forts are constructed in the extremities of the country, in far western Massachusetts, central New Hampshire and northern Maine. While the government does not feel any immediate threat from its neighbors, with its ties to France and New York's recent annexation of Vermont, a defendable position is agreed upon by all in the national assembly.
-With news of French harassment of shipping to and from the American Republics, two sloops are put to construction in Boston, the NES Lexington and NES Concord, hoping to set sail early next year.
-A report reaches Boston that the CMS Mayflower engaged a heavy armed barbary ship off the coast of Algiers. Though the engagement resulted in a decisive victory, with the Mayflower drawing the Berber ship in close followed by a blast of canon and pucklegun, the Mayflower suffered extensive damage to its hull and is currently porting in Palma de Mallorca, off the coast of Spain.
-While New York invades French Caribbean islands, Boston sees a way to exercise its more friendly relations with the new European Republic, offering to purchase St. Martin from them, offering them a fair deal to help pay off foreign debts. After some time of consideration, the deal is struck giving New England its first colonial territory off in the region. As the year passes on, it becomes a popular stop for ships on their way to Hayti from Boston.
-Though the election seems close throughout much of the year, when the voters go to the ballot in the early fall, overwhelmingly Samuel Adams is reelected with New Hampshire man John Langdon as his vice president. It seems that Increase Summers and his pro-British party will remain as the honorable opposition in the government for the time being.
-President Adams immediately continues his work of uniting New Hampshire with Massachusetts, pushing through a bill to construct a number of English and French schools throughout the incorporated state.
-Knowing that its best resource outside of fishing is the country's large, expansive forests, a number of conservatory acts are passed, requiring logging companies to replant forests cut down for commerce, hoping to maintain the New England landscape for ages to come.

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - Gnomical
President: Major General Thomas Mifflin
Capital: Philidelphia
Largest City: Philidelphia
Dominant Religion: Quaker, Presbyterian
-Despite the defeat the previous year, General Hand reorganizes his troops and with fresh reserves from the east, takes a slow but concerted march westward to push back the Indians. Throughout the year, skirmishes are fought in various regions of northern Ohio territory though any decisive, full battle remains wanting.
-To help solidify Philadelphia's hold going westward, cheap land is auctioned off to colonists while roads are constructed. Fort Erie on the lake coast grows into a small town quickly as a result, though in the southern end of the Ohio territory, Pennsylvania colonists often encounter Virginian colonists. Most encounters are peaceful, even with some bartering, but a few scuffles and gun fights ensue between the rowdier crowds of the newcomers.
-While many of the colonists moving west are generations old Pennsylvanians, many German immigrants choose to move to Friedrichsstadt in New Spain, which President Mifflin opens successful trade relations with through diplomatic talks with Spain.
-Further strengthening the western borders of the Commonwealth, a number of small blockhouses and fortifications are constructed along the Ohio River under Pennsylvania control, both to protect Pittsburgh from Indians as well as possible malicious Virginians.
-Coal mines open up throughout the Appalachians as Pittsburgh blacksmiths build a number of blast furnaces to help produce steel.
-The rebounding success in the west comes just in time to secure President Mifflin another term in office as the election comes around. Much to his joy, his Commonwealth Federalist Party find themselves in the majority of the State Assembly, while the isolationist Pennsylvania Independence Party retains only a handful of seats.
-With his party firmly in control of the government, a new economic deal is made with New Jersey to open up neighboring industries and businesses to use the ports of Philadelphia with reduced taxes and tariffs on passing goods. In return, a defensive measure is agreed upon where New Jersey will use its coast along the Delaware Bay to help protect the city from any naval blockade.
-A similar trade deal is made with Delaware to encourage their states' business and commerce to come through Philadelphia as oppose to Baltimore, enriching both American Republics.
-Though New Jersey is successful in defending the coastal areas, the high seas bring news of harassment from French vessels on many trade routes, while barbary pirates continue to attack Pennsylvania merchants off the coast of North Africa along with the rest of the America Republic's.
-To prep the defense of ocean trade routes, the navy is expanded to include three new cutters, the CPN Lawrence, Henry, and Loyalty, while three sloops (CPN Astute, Tulip, and Burges) are laid, ready to set sail next year and two brigs, dubbed the CPN Alexandria and Honeysuckle, are scheduled for completion in 1797.

Commonwealth of Virginia - Joshuadim
President: Patrick Henry
Capital:Richmond
Largest City: Norfolk
Dominant Religion: Baptist
-Patrick Henry starts the year with campaign for his reelection to the presidency, with Thomas Jefferson as his Vice President. Together, their showcase of success against North Carolina, growing economy, and expanded naval abilities easily win them the presidency again against opponent James Madison who graciously accepts his defeat later in the year.
-After the election, Vice President Jefferson travels throughout neighboring republic Kentucky on as a diplomatic envoy. Having had the state secede some years prior over a number of unresolved issues regarding trade with Spain and safety from Indians, Jefferson's goal is to reunite the lost state with its mother. After spending months in negotiations, a draft constitution is formed with Kentucky retaining many of its domestic rights while a union is set out under the government of Richmond.
-With Virginia once again unified with its lost territories, Francophile Thomas Jefferson then travels out across the Atlantic on an envoy to France. Once there, he spends much of the autumn and early winter in discussion with the revolutionary government there, securing Paris's friendship and their navy's deterrence from harassing merchant ships flying Virginia's flag. Part of Jefferson's envoy breaks off and makes their way to London to petition a safe harbor for Virginian ships in Bermuda, but they find Parliament unresponsive and avoiding a chance to directly meet with them to discuss the matter in open, with suspicion that friendlier ties to France as the cause.
-Despite Bermuda's access still up in the air, a focus on the home port of Norfolk is taken. A number of ship designers and architects are hired by the Department of Navy to design larger, more powerful vessels in a more efficient manner.
-Not to be outdone by its northern counterparts, Virginia launches its own expedition to the west coast of Africa, constructing a fortification on the shores by St. Paul River. A rudimentary port is constructed nearby to help facilitate trade with the locals as soon as feasible, hoping to export arms and tools in return for spices, exotic foods, and slaves.
-The Army of Virginia is partially reorganized, with volunteers composed of frontiersmen, woodsmen, and some Indians called the "Frontiers Regiment". It is used like a scouting force, much like Georgia's frontier regiment, in order to help guide the formal Virginian army units into the Ohio territory. Many of the men recruited for this unit come from the newly incorporated state of Kentucky and use their vast experience of battling Indians to the help of Virginia.
-Much like Pennsylvania's advancement across the north of the Ohio territory, Virginia moves to seize the southern half for its own expansion. Moving just as cautiously and slowly as its neighboring commonwealth, it uses its Frontier Regiment to find native villages and find the best ground for battles, though much like PA the army only encounters skirmishes.
-Staying on the defensive as it penetrates hostile territory, the army establishes fortifications wherever it stops to rest, with constant patrols, with lines of pikes and rudimentary fortifications around every encampment.
-To make sure the Indians of the area know that they are now in the Commonwealth of Virginia wherever the army marches, every Indian village captured is burnt to the ground. Those living within are removed prior to prevent unnecessary death, and forced to march out of the area with only the belongings they can carry. By the end of the year, several villages are turned to ash with many Indians going westward where there is news of the Shawnee-Miami Confederacy reforming to more effectively fight the white demons.
-While Virginian settlers continue to make their way across to the immediate area around the northern bank of the Ohio River, they often encounter settlers coming in from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. More often than not, friendly bartering and trade occur, though their is talk of several fights and skirmishes between the more aggressive settlers from both sides in some instances as well.

The Carolina Confederacy - Jsoldier
President: Alexander Martin
Capital: Raleigh
Largest City: Charleston
Dominant Religion: Baptist
-While agriculture remains the standard-bearer of the Carolina economy, movement toward industrialization on the coast continues to grow. Boulton and Watt steam engines are imported from Great Britain for the continued manufacturing of the arms industries.
-To placate the lower classes of white men feeling replaced by the education of negro slaves in trades, a massive job hiring program is introduced to put the unemployed in the arms factories. Whites are also given jobs in the new coal mines opening in the mountains while porters are hired en-mass for the expansion of the Charleston ports, under the slogans such as "Any negro or white can be a carpenter, but only a white can do this"
-As the coast sees mills populate the landscape, the Columbia Technical College is constructed to create a class of engineers that will help the Carolina Confederacy build its future. When construction is finished in the late summer, the university finds not just native Carolinans in the building, but some French and German expatriates as well.
-To help expedite the construction of naval vessels in the future, the department of the navy administration is reorganized. Men put into their position by birth or favor are removed and replaced by bankers, engineers, and lawyers to administrate the navy in a professional manner.
-In order to connect better the two states that form the Confederacy, the government commissions a infrastructure bill to install semaphore lines from Raleigh to Charleston, as well as strengthening bridges and roads from northern cities into southern cities.
-Hoping to quell any low morale still lingering from the Georgia War, the government puts out ads in newspapers around the country giving the Confederacy a sense of unity and pride, with phrases like "The Confederacy Will Rise Again" in terms of economy and military strength.
-A diplomatic corps is established by President Martin for the purpose of outreaching to European nations and establishing the Carolina Confederacy as an equal among them. Embassies are built in London, Madrid, and St. Petersburg to help maintain diplomatic communication, though the embassy in Amsterdam is postponed due to the Batavian Revolution as is much trade with the Dutch.
-While Carolina dominates arms exports from the American Republics at the moment, merchant vessels sailing toward England come under heavy harassment by the French. Reports of privateers and the French navy engaging, seizing, or sinking Carolina merchant ships reaches Raleigh, much to the anxiety of the government.
-Independent of the worrying reports from the high seas, the Carolinas already had embarked on expanding their naval presence in the world with the laying of four frigates, expected to finish construction by 1798.
-After sending out hundreds of thousands of census forms and difficult calculations of math, the Carolina Confederacy finds that it has a roughly estimated population of 753,249, with 234,642 being slaves making up roughly 32% of the whole Confederate population.

Republic of Georgia - Ruskie v2.0
President: George Walton
Capital: Louisville
Largest City: Savannah
Dominant Religion: Baptist
-As Sevier, a retired veteran of the Carolina War continues his steel plant in Augusta, the Georgian government takes interest in his economic ventures. His metal is commissioned almost entirely for arms manufacturing, building a diverse arsenal of muskets, canon, mortars and ammunition for all. Knowing that the Georgian military can only use so much of it, excess arms are shipped out to Britain and other nations of Northern Europe. Despite the rise in sales, it becomes clear that Georgia is now coming into competition with other American Republics seeking to sell arms to Europe as war envelopes the continent.
-To make a unique product for European armies, a grape-shot like ammunition is designed for mortars. A combination of grenades and cannonball, if the fuse is set correctly, the shell will explode above the target showering it with shrapnel. Officers from Great Britain take interest in purchase of the designed weapon, though the Royal Navy finds the design even more appealing.
-To help facilitate trade with other nations as well as centralize the economy of the republic, a central bank called The Grand Georgian is licensed. The bank is tied to the mint of Georgia, which begins producing paper money backed by gold deposited in the bank.
-While the business along the northern borders of Georgia comes to an end, President Walton turns his focus southward once more. Throughout the late spring and early summer, heavy diplomatic discussion between Georgia and the Commonwealth of West Florida and the St. Augustine Republic result in the happy annexation of both into the Republic of Georgia. The Floridian republics find themselves much safer in a union with Georgia than on their own against the ever looming threat of Spain and Indians.
-To establish strong borders reaching out to its new territories, General 'Mad' Wayne is ordered to take the 2nd Georgian into northern Florida to establish a dominant presence and bring the Indians there to recognize Georgian hegemony or be removed. He finds great success along the coast to St. Augustine, but the interior of the southern territories find the Georgians in constant harassment by Seminoles.
-The militias of the Floridian Republics are incorporated into the Georgian Army as 1st Floridian in West Florida and the 1st. Augustinian in St. Augustine. Officers from General Wayne's regiment is sent to both to help organize, train, and discipline the motley forces into Georgia's high standardized army.
-Cotton sales continue to be shipped off to English ports, though the French have taken note of the convoys to their enemy by the Georgian. Most of the year sees French vessels just sailing uncomfortably close to the convoys, in September a small skirmish between the GGS Valiant and the French brig Frites occurs. It is hard to say who fired the first canon as the brig sailed up toward the convoy of merchant ships, but after a 20 minute battle, the French ship's main mast was blown down forcing it to flee with the GGS Vailiant not just victorious but unscathed.
-With the expansion of coastline southward to protect (as well as now in the Gulf of Mexico) and the French navy becoming frisky, four new cutters are built and introduced to the Georgian seas, the GGS August, GGS Southern Son, GGS Hanged Maria, and the GGS Funny Business.

Kingdom of Louisiana - Pezgod1
Constitutional Monarch: Henry Courtenay
Capital: New Orleans
Largest City: New Orleans
Dominant Religion: Roman Catholic
-With growing disdain for the Spanish rule in New Orleans, stoked by rhetoric found in Henry Courtenay's discussions with the French populace as he helps them rebuild from the fires last year, an uprising occurs in early March.
-The Spanish garrison for New Orleans, having been stationed in Havana, reacts too late as the French citizens of the city quickly capture the Spanish officials ruling them and secure the harbor.
-Securing the outlying towns up the river of the Mississippi come various militias from Reglement and a few allied Ojibwe indians. Their arrival in New Orleans is welcomed by the French citizens, some of which call on Henry Courtenay to lead the revolution.
-As backing for him grows, Henry Courtenay subtly talks about his lineage back to French nobility and so after a few key talks with leading members of the French community, they declare themselves the Kingdom of Louisiana as a constitutional monarchy.
-The Spanish, caught completely off-guard by the rebellion, had no time to react and as a result, the Frenchmen manage to capture two brigs in the harbor before they can set sail for safety.
-With the city taken, independence declared, and a tiny navy already to defend the city's harbor, Henry Courtenay brokers peace with an envoy from Cuba. Louisiana safely releases all Spanish citizens and officials back to Spanish lands in return for recognition of their independence.
-Talks of figuring out a national constitution for the first kingdom in the Americas take a while, so in the meantime, Henry Courtenay and his family establish new economic ties with the rest of the Americas. Reglement becomes a formal colony of the Kingdom, while trade with the EIAG company expands imports. With immigration from the north to the newly established Friedrichsstadt in New Spain passing through the city, commerce goes unhindered by the revolution.
-To keep in touch with its far northern colony, a project of semaphore lines are introduced along the Mississippi river, though with the huge tracts of distance it is believed to be some time before it is fully established.

Cherokia - Sobotnik
First Beloved Man: Tsiyu Gansini [He Is Dragging His Canoe]; Chancellor: Deekstra
Capital: Cutonuga
Largest settlement: Cutonuga
Dominant Religion: Unorganized Animism
-With the arrival of the new year comes the arrival of more reforms lead by Gansini and Deekstra. School houses are ordered to be built in every major village throughout Cherokia, as well as official townhalls to represent growing into a hardened government instead of a loose assortment of tribes doing their own thing. While majority of the buildings appear like those in white east, at closer look finds many carvings and reliefs on the buildings and designs that represent a true Cherokee origin.
-Along with the schools and government buildings, a number of water frame mills and water power mills are established on the major rivers, help giving power to new iron foundries and kilns built nearby. It is hoped that the iron foundries will begin to build the Cherokee's own weapons instead of relying on trade with whites for the majority of their arms.
-The need for heavy construction eventually leads to vast warehouses, especially around what the whites call Mobile Bay, to store timber and logs to let them dry out and become seasoned.
-In the early spring, an quinquennial census is launched with a simple head count throughout Cherokia. By the end of the year, it is counted that there is a rough total of 45,872 people in their borders, with 2,790 of them whites and 4,690 of them non-Cherokee indians.
-Later in the summer, Joe the Convert arrives back in Cherokia from his religious studies in New York. He brings back tales of a religious revelation brought to him, that he has been deemed a prophet by the white's god due to their numerous divisions. He was told by the god to go to the Michigan territory to a holy tree guarded by a Frenchmen and dig up several gold plates with holy writing upon it. While a vast majority of people in Cherokia disbelief Joe, a number of small followers develop, becoming baptized in rivers by Joe.
-Though buying passage on American Republic ships, at many times very discretely, the Cherokee manage to make formal political contacts with some European nations such as Prussia and England. Volunteers join the Prussian Army to learn their drilling, though with the Peace of Basel none manage to see any actual battle. Meanwhile in England, a number of books are sent back to Cutonuga to educate government officials on the greater world.
-Cherokia opens up its trade with its neighboring American Republics, hoping that the previous conflicts can be forgotten in return for bartering of goods. The natives build bridges and roads leading to Georgia, Carolinas and Kentucky in hopes of encouraging them to respond as so in return.
-While peace remains throughout the land, Deekstra finds that a strong military is the only thing that will secure Cherokia's independence in the future. The Cherokee warriors are organized into military units and drilled with the use of muskets over and over. Official barracks are built in key areas of the land to keep it secure and have a designated spot to train soldiers, which often attracts locals to watch. Some view it as their countrymen "playing whiteman", while many others are filled with pride in knowing the Cherokee people are securing themselves in the future.
-Expansion is used immediately through the later half of the year, as the Cherokee annex and invade various neighboring tribal areas. The Chato People and Choctaw are incorporated into Cherokia one way or another, pushing the nation's borders to reach the Mississippi River in the west as well as reaching the Gulf of Mexico in the south.
-Knowing that the Cherokee alone may not be able to secure the future of all natives of America, a small expeditionary force is sent northward to the Miami-Confederacy. Though remaining strictly neutral in their wars, they offer to help train and formalize the Shawnee and Miami into a cohesive fighting force and a united government. While there, they meet a young chieftan named Shooting Star and his brother who seem adamant about repelling the white man from their lands.

Chairman: Padraig O'Donoghue
Major Area of Settlement: Southern tip of Novia Scotia
Colonists: 4,589 total, 0 slaves (0%)
-Chairman O'Donaghue spends the winter in Ireland laying out a massive recruitment project for New Eire, expanding the company's offices to many cities throughout Ireland and England. Augmenting the land offers, he gives a deal of 2 hectares of land for married families with children, with a little less so for those unmarried or without children. The plan is to plant a root of people with their children in the colony right at the birth of it rather than hope the people take to the liking of the area and decide to settle. As a result, throughout the year large numbers of Irish and a few English, Welsh and Scots make their way to Nova Scotia.
-Focusing on keeping the colony producing, large farm areas are designated for the best crops that will rake in a profit, such as barley, wheat, rye, and many different hops.
-Remembering their true Irish heritage, the colonists construct a hop house, malting house, brewery and distillery to cook different crops into the best beers and liquors this side of the ocean. As a result, by the end of the year, many ships passing by New Eire to the American Republics stop by to restock on their rations of alcohol.
-Keeping in mind for the future growth of the colony, the EIAG officials designate officers to manage the forests in the area, carefully selecting large oaks to cut down and season for ship building, while other trees are cut down for building construction. Maple trees are to be avoided for lumber so to maintain a supply of sap for export, leaving some processed forests to be called "maple orchards". A lumber mill is built early in the year and sees almost non-stop work, while strong red cedars are selected and processed for cutting down for sturdy lumber in the future.
-Along with the mill, alcohol buildings and other warehouses, central New Eire opens up a cannery to preserve its crops and make jam for export, making the downtown area bustling with colonial industry.
-To secure its financial future, Padraig O'Donoghue secures contracts with businessmen in New York City as well as New Orleans for continued exports of New Eire's produce.

Tejanische Landfirma - Trebgarta
Chairman: Friedrich Martin Ruiters, Empresario
Company Office: Pittsburgh, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Major Area of Settlement: Galveston Bay area, "Friedrichsstadt"
Colonists: 1,872 total, 2 slaves (0.1%)
-Having established himself with the Spanish governor of Tejas, Friedrich Martin Ruiters founds Friedrichsstadt on Gavelston Bay. He personally travels throughout British Canadian colonies to recruit German colonists there to move southward to a land of opportunity and fresh starts. Many having been displaced by the American Revolution two decades prior find it welcoming to find a home where they can speak their native tongue often.
-Heading south, he travels through the Republic of New York and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to recruit more Germans and some Dutch to sail down the Ohio, then Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. From there, some are hired to continue spreading the word in various German communities throughout the Republics of a "German colony" so to speak.
-While land is plentiful in the colony, farmable land is limited. So to make an income for the colony, ranches are established. The size of the ranch sold to each colonist is dependent on the size of the family moving in, with nearly a thousand acres available for a small family. To help compensate the new colonists, payments for the services and land they reach are postponed for up to a year until they are ready to pay.
-Though the official language of the colony is Spanish, due to residing in New Spain, only a handful of residents speak it - mostly officers of the company that need to know for interactions with the Spanish government - while the rest of the colonist majority speaks various German dialects and English, with a little French.
-By the personal wishes of Ruiters, slavery is banned in the colony. However, he realizes that for some immigrants that they may not be able to just relinquish their property immediately, so a law is established in which slaves brought to the colony are registered as indentured servants for a maximum of five years and will be awarded their freedom after such. This deters most of the wealthy southerners from the Southern American Republics, but many of those are already entrenched in their home republics as it is. Despite so, a relatively poor southerner does migrate over with two of his slaves which he registers.
-Knowing that indians could attack at any time, and being on the coast makes the colony open to attacks by the enemies of Spain, a number of experienced frontiersmen and Hessian soldiers are recruited for the colony's militia, dubbing them as Texas Jaegers. They spend much of their time on horseback scouting out the interior and protecting caravans to San Antonio.
-To help arm the Texas Jaegers, Pennsylvania Long Guns are imported from the north, while a gunsmith is established in the town to service them as well as colonist's personal arms.
-As migrants come in larger droves over the course of the year, a dock is commissioned in the harbor. While not as grand as New York City, when finished, the docks work well enough to see a constant flow of families come in while leather and beef get exported out to New Orleans and various ports in southern New Spain.
-The coastal region and riversides of the colony are reserved for agriculture so to not solely depend on one product for export. Cotton becomes a popular crop among the farmers there, who mostly derive from Mestizos from down south and the Caribbean.
-Though much of the early year is spent in the American Republics driving recruitment, the summer and fall sees Ruiters spend much time in San Antonio discussing his growing colony with the commandant constantly seeking more acres to establish his coastal town. More often than not, the commandant signs off permission, at times not even reading the contract, feeling miserable that he is in a backwater part of the Empire while other Spanish troops find glory in the war against France.

Homeowner: Zacharie "Scaramouche" D'Eymet
Location: "Somewhere outside Fort Detroit" in New Yorkan Michigan
Dominant Religion: French Reformed [Huguenot]
-Zacherie spends most of his days cheerfully singing while maintaining his lumberjack job while the evenings are spent taking care of his agining parents.
-As his time in Métropotamie continues, he befriends many locals, from New York colonists to Indians in the area, trading with him trinkets and news to pass the time.
-Saplings from Stefane continue to grow in the area, some as far as several miles from the old tree.
-Sometimes called "tree guy", Zacherie on occasion gets harassed when he goes to Fort Detroit for trade, particularly from a man named Henri d'Oz, though Zach pegs him often as "Henry Pinhead Oz".
-While away, he leaves a large sign by Stefane in French saying, "Ne pas nuire à l'arbre"
-Hearing of the revolution in New Orleans, Zacherie prepares himself for possible attacks again by the Frenchmen out west. A number of them arrive one day with axes ready, but New York scouts in the area from Fort Detroit arrest them on suspicion of being agents of France seeking to subvert the fort.

The Birth of Friedrichsstad
Friedrich Martin Ruiters, born in Philadelphia in the year 1760. A businessman and a manager, as the runner of a couple farms on some dozens of acres owned by his father behind the Appalachians. He is the son of a Dutch landowner, the operator of a mid-sized land bank in Philadelphia, and has one brother, who is a lawyer. They are the descendants of a Dutch patroon in New York, however the lands up there are operated by his uncle - his father drew the short straw in inheritance. Furthermore, there is bad blood between the two brothers, and Friedrich hasn't seen his uncle in 12 years. He doesn't see his father often either. He tends to different lands across the state, much of it on the fringes, and spends much time travelling, just like Friedrich himself.
Friedrich spent much more time growing up with his Palatine German mother, daughter of immigrants who served as indenture servants on his grandfather's lands for the opportunity of living in America. That is why today he can speak 4 languages: Palatine German, Dutch, English and Spanish, and identifies more with his German heritage.
After taking a trip to Mexico and witnessing the great plains full of nothingness but opportunities on the way, Friedrich decided to take up the task of establishing a new colony for the Germans in Texas.
While Friedrich was doing his planning, his father contracted pneumonia in February and died in a a few weeks. He left his land for his two sons. Friedrich wasn't interested in the land, but the finances it could provide. He sold some of the land, gave the rest for his brother to run, got on his horse and left for San Antonio, to meet the Spanish governor. He became an empresario serving the Spanish Crown. He surveyed the particular land assigned to him, and chose a spot for the new Town, on the Brazos river, not far from a bay suitable to be a harbor[modern day Houston]. He quickly constructed a makeshift marker, and set back for Pennsylvania, to return early next year, with followers filled with a new hope for a better life in the West.
Before things get super hairy,
Please restrict the constructions of cutters to only 4 per turn maximum. I want to avoid someone putting in a line saying "Build 20 cutters" because they're instant ships for that turn.
if I can't build 20 cutters, then in that case can I build 15 sloops this turn tyvm
if I can't build 20 cutters, then in that case can I build 15 sloops this turn tyvm
In theory that's fine because they won't be done until next turn and you may find other navies bombarding your docks in the meantime :v:
good thing my docks are inland, that way they can't attack my ships from the sea. still yet to figure out how to sail on land though
use your brains people
[editline]19th July 2017[/editline]
btw suggestion: when you make your list of ships for players, bold the ones which are active/in service and leave ones which have been sunken/captured/are currently under construction unbolded
Will do in the future

A number of you had elections this past turn, do you that have (and those that have not yet) want to keep it a standard 4 or 5 years for future elections? As I've said before, you may choose who becomes the winner in the election and it will not affect your game play whatsoever - I'll take care of the flavor for you as well.
I bring this up because a number of the Presidents in the American Republics I realize are aging quite rapidly.
For the year 1796
President of New England: Samuel Adams, Age 74
President of New York: Alexander Hamilton, Age 39
President of Pennsylvania: Thomas Mifflin, Age 52
President of Virginia: Patrick Henry, Age 60
President of Carolina: Alexander Martin, Age 56
President of Georgia: George Walton, Age 47
First Beloved Man of Cherokia: Tsiyu Gansini, Age 58
King of Louisiana: Henri Courtenay, Age....was that ever put in his background? :v:
For the most part, I think I'll keep them to passing away in their OTL dates, especially if it were due to natural causes (looking at you, Hamilton). It is 100% up to you guys if you want to keep them in office until death or have them retire or whatever.
according to wikipedia, my leader (tsiyu gansini) has been dead for 3 years and yet he still rules the country
He had been warned about the English weather in advance, and sure enough it took some getting used to. Unfortunately as Wadigel had come to realise, it was like this all the time. The West Midlands was as damp and clammy as the rest of these green and foggy islands, a fact which did not appeal too greatly to him. Not to mention that he was uncomfortable in other ways.
The stagecoach lurched as it passed over a pothole, throwing the occupants about save for Mr Wilkins, a rather plump man who sat quite firmly in one place with a cane between his legs.
“Enjoying the ride Mr Wadigel?” asked Wilkins, grinning widely as he watched the Cherokee men sitting opposite him shuffle about uncomfortably in their fitted London suits.
“As much as the weather” he murmured.
Wilkins smiled and said “The weather is a bit miserable as it is now, but I have confidence it will clear up soon! Don't worry anyways, this excursion will take us indoors!”
Looking out of the window with rain pattering down it, Wadigel saw the typical English countryside rolling out before him. Deep green, wet, very quiet looking. Here and there he could see hedges and the occasional manor house.
“Where are we going today?” Wadigel asked.
“None other than to Soho to visit Mr Bolton!”
“Is he a nobleman?”
The stagecoach began rolling up into a courtyard outside of a large complex of buildings. It stopped and the driver jumped off, opening the door. Wilkins stood up and shouted ”Not at all, a businessman! Hard nosed and practical!” before he squeezed out. In front of them was a large and rather new-looking building. Standing in front of it was a rather aged looking man, dressed in all black and his hair visibly grey. Despite such appearances he seemed to possess the energy of a man half his age, and upon the Cherokee men leaving the stagecoach he immediately launched into conversation.
“Welcome! Welcome to my business! I am Mr Bolton, please come, do not be shy! I have sent a number of novelties and gifts the world over to impress, but those do not compare at all to what there is here! You are here to see something more by the looks of it!”
He immediately insisted on shaking everybodies hands, with Wadigel asking “What is it that you have here?”
This energized man smiled and announced “Come, come! You have not come over the seas to be disappointed, especially when I heard that your King wishes to learn of our developments in the natural sciences! It is a shame he cannot come see for himself.” He immediately turned around and lead the group into the front door of the works, although the Cherokee were still very confused as to what exactly he even did.
“Excuse me, Mr Bolton, what is it that you sell here?” Wadigel asked
He stopped in the middle of the building, pointing to some sort of large metal monstrosity sitting to his right.
“I sell what all the men of the world desire sir!”
Suddenly a sharp and gratingly loud screaming sound pierced their ears and the leviathan next to Bolton began to move as if on cue, blasting out steam and groaning as tons of iron and wood were compelled to move by steam.
“What I sell here sir, is POWER!”
Sorry if I forgot anyone on the list, the number of players are swelling. Now have a goal of writing at least two turns a day in order to keep up, which is so far feasible.
I'll get mine in asap. Been working a lot of OT at work so I don't have much free time
