World Events
-Callimachus of Cyrene, learned poet and grammarian, becomes chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria.
-Antiochus I of the Seleucid Empire dies and is succeeded by his second son Antiochus II Theos.-The Roman denarius coin is minted for the first time.
-Ashoka becomes emperor of the Maurya Empire.
-Macedonia's King Antigonus II Gonatas has to deal with a rebellion by an Athenian-led coalition of Spartans (led by King Areus I of Sparta), Athenians (led by Chremonides), Arcadians and Achaeans that tries to expel the Macedonian forces located in Greece. The rebellion has the support of Ptolemy II of Egypt.
-The Mauryan emperor Ashoka converts to Buddhism.
-The Archimedes screw for raising water is devised by the Greek mathematician Archimedes, who is studying at Alexandria.
-The Athenians and Spartans, worn down by several years of war and the devastation of their lands, make peace with Antigonus II of Macedonia who thus retains his hold on Greece.
-After Athens surrenders following a long siege by Macedonian forces, Antigonus II Gonatas re-garrisons Athens and forbids the city from making war. Otherwise, he leaves Athens alone as the seat of philosophy and learning in Greece.
-Seleucid king Antiochus I's eldest son Seleucus, who has ruled in the east of the kingdom as viceroy for a number of years, is put to death by his father on the charge of rebellion.
-Antiochus I tries to break the growing power of Pergamum by force of arms. Eumenes I, the new ruler of Pergamum, liberates his city from the overlordship of the Seleucids by defeating the army of Antiochus I near Sardis (the capital of Lydia), and thereby establishing an independent city-state.
-The new Seleucid king Antiochus II reaches an agreement with the king of Macedonia, Antigonus II Gonatas, to work together in trying to push Ptolemy II's fleet and armies out of the Aegean Sea. With Macedonia's support, Antiochus II launches an attack on Ptolemaic outposts in Asia Minor.
-As the war in Cisalpine Gaul begins to wind down, so does the number of Legions. In an effort to save money, the number of standing troops is reduced from XL to XXX legions, with Legions stationed in Samnium taking the most hits.
-To coincide with a reduced fighting force, the Romans construct fortifications at the Alpine passes in order to restrict access to mainland Italia.
-The land grant program for veterans begins to see wider adoption as a new generation of soldiers begins to retire from the Roman army. This time, land grants are pushed further north into the new Alpine territories.
-A new law is passed dictating that enforces size restrictions on plots of public land to circumvent the increase in power of rich land owners/patricians with the army as well as a propaganda campaign to encourage duty to the state, and thus the laws of the state. This angers the patrician class, and likewise the senate erupts into argument.
-With this, the state mandates that at least one-third of farms the size of C-CXXV hectares must be worked by freedmen. This results in a healthy increase of working freedmen and a healthy decrease of working slaves, who are consequently sent to work in less savory jobs.
-The Senate approve construction of a small remembrance shrine to Lucius Junius Brutus in dedication to his duty to the state and his personal sacrifice to Rome.
-Taxes on importing grain and iron are loosened, resulting in a larger in-flow of the materials. However, many fear that their businesses will be undercut by cheaper foreign goods. The issue becomes the subject of hot debate in the Senate. Still, no one can complain about the surplus of food supplies, and in turn Rome's population sees a healthy increase.
-Rome send trade envoys to Illyria and Greek states along the Adriatic to promote trade and good relations. All envoys return successful, and trade ports soon begin to crop up along Rome's Adriatic coast.
-With increased trade with the Greeks comes improvements in Roman steering oar design, and more advanced designs allow ships (mostly military) to become bigger while retaining mobility.
-This increased trade also sees a disproportionate increase in piracy around Italia, both in the Adriatic and along the Western Mediterranean coast. Piracy becomes especially prevalent along the Southern end of Italy.

-With the victory against Syracuse, Carthage encroaches onto all of Sicily by building guard towers and fortifications, thereby securing their hegemony over the island. Protection money is extorted from the city-states in the region, and the states gladly pay as to not incite the wrath of Carthage.
-Tall and strong militiamen from Carthage are trained to wield and effectively use the longbow by Cimmerian hirelings. This effort results in some decent success, creating a small corps of Punic longbowmen. These men are not mercenaries, but actual Punic nationals who have sworn an oath to their nation.
-Militia reserve troops practice pankration and are trained into either bowmen or swordsmen. Carthage slowly starts to see its national troop numbers increase.
-Carthage's merchants seek improved trade relations with Greek city states. While weary about Punic encroachment of Sicily, they gladly accept the increased trade relations as the Greeks cannot deny money.
-Carthage imports papyrus from Egypt to use in creating maps and encyclopedias. Over the years, Carthage sees a growth in prevalence of literature.
-Carthage urges their Numidian neighbors to expand their own influence, and with some Punic influence and assistance they manage to assert increased influence over their neighboring areas.
-Carthage sends settlers to found two cities in the Iberia; pioneers prospect the surrounding area and begin producing grapes, grain, and olives. These are promptly exported back to Carthage where they are either enjoyed by consumers or shipped further down to Greece and Rome.
-Carthago Nova is expanded heavy, built up to resemble the Punic city of Carthage itself. Things like expanded ports and apartments are built to accommodate its residents and the trade that will surely come through.
-Using their immense stores of money, Carthage purchases Greek holdings in Sicily, bringing many parts of Sicily under direct Punic ownership. This diplomatic approach also eases tensions between the mainland Greeks and Carthage, as the Carthaginians show they are willing to undergo due process to acquire assets.
-The Carthaginians develop on earlier optics technologies by developing lense designs of their own. These new designs will help thoroughly in creating new tools used for various purposes, primarily magnification.
-The Cilician campaign eventually succeeds and troops in Cilicia are transferred over to Syria in order to fight back the Ptolemaic invasion.
-To fight the war more effectively, additional taxes are levied. People further East who are not experiencing the war become outraged, but do not riot as they are assured the taxes are only temporary.
-As the counter-offensive rolls, the Seleucids retake territory they have lost from the combined enemy rush into Syria. The conflict turns into a stalemate as both sides meet once again at the border of Judea. The Judeans fight fiercely alongside the Ptolemaic armies, keeping Antiochus's armies at bay. The extreme strain of the Seleucid armies on the Seleucid economy can be seen every day.

-The Kingdom sends an army South to conquer the tribes and petty kingdoms of the Colchian coast and take the lands for the kingdom. The campaign is fairly successful, and the lands are subsequently annexed. In the wake of the conquest, infrastructure is constructed in the areas to standardize all parts of the Kingdom.
-Taking notes from the steppe peoples of the East, the Cimmerians study and adopt cataphracts into their military. While few in number, they gain a fierce reputation among Cimmeria's enemies.
-The Cimmerians continue building up their navy, focusing on military ships. Among other Hellenic navies, the Cimmerian navy soon becomes a fleet to be reckoned with.
-Construction of a large stadium dubbed the "Megáli tournouá" is started in Pantikapaion. This place is to serve as the main place for the Olympic games to be held and to provide exercise space for athletes. Visitors to Cimmeria look in awe at this construction, and word soon gets around about Pantikapaion's vast and wonderful constructions. Pantikapaion itself sees rapid growth and expansion, turning into a sort of "New Athens" among Hellenic capitals.
-Magistrates are constructed throughout the Kingdom, to not only bring law and order to the people but also help connect them with the government. People are overall happy to have easier access to government channels
-The Kingdom encourages artisans such as potters, weavers, brewers, and blacksmiths to invest some of their profits in growing their businesses. This effort results in the evolution of small cottage companies into large production giants who possess immense infrastructure and assets, though results are not as widespread as the King might hope.
-Royal elephant stables are constructed in Pantikapaion and Tanais to house the new Cimmerian Elephants. These facilities are also designed with breeding in mind in order to sustain the population of Cimmerian war elephants.
-Forums are constructed throughout Cimmeria to make trading, buying, and selling goods easier, as well as to encourage overall trade. Cimmeria sees and overall increase in trade within key urban settlements over the decade.
-An effort is made to create gravity-based aqueducts, but the Cimmerians fail to devise a proper design on their own and the project falls flat.
-In an effort to alleviate pressure from the shoulders of the King, a bureacracy is created across the Kingdom that handles less pressing matters and does the King's bidding when he is pre-occupied with other, more important tasks. It is mandated that anyone who wishes to join this bureacracy pass an exam that tests their knowledge of history, economics, science, mathematics, philosophy, and basic administration tasks.
-Cimmeria sends colonists up the Dnieper and down the Danube, but these colonists never report back.
-Likewise, emmisaries are sent towards the East in order to attempt contact with the fabled Chinese, but these emmisaries never return and their fates are never known.
-Cimmerian Merchants traveling to the Selucid empire are encouraged to create businesses there to utilize the vast unemployed labor force of the Selucid Empire. This both benefits Cimmeria and the war-torn Seleucid empire, who need all the money they can get.
-In an agreement with the Selucids, food, mercenaries, and horses are sent to aid the Selucids in their war against Ptolemy II. This is accompanied with greater trade rights for Cimmerians in the Empire, as well as charters for the creation of Cimmerian merchant districts in Selucid coastal cities. As a token of friendship, the Seleucids provide 300 war elephants to the Cimmerian military, although transport of these elephants is slow as most of the Seleucid navy is caught up in fighting Ptolemy.
-Like the Seleucids, the Cimmerians attempt to send scholars to study Punic Quinqueremes, but they are promptly turned away.

As allied armies from all over Gaul flood the East, the Germanic invaders are pushed back in a decisive wave of battles across the decade. Cimmeria finally begins to re-stabilize as the Celtic armies and their coalition continue to push the barbarians out of Gaul. The large allied involvement in the war results in the growth of Celtica's allied states, creating almost-equals among them.

-The Roxolani continue to absorb other tribes as they pass through Europe. They begin raiding Daco-Thracian tribes in efforts to boost their supplies.
-At the eastern side of the Carpathian Mountains, they settle for a short period of time to regain strength and grow numbers, as passing through the mountains is extremely dangerous.
-With the absorption of various tribes and a growing population, the need for a formal writing system increases. The Roxolani adopt a Cimmerian Greek writing system as an interim script.
-The Roxolani begin to improve their wagon wheels so that they may pass safely through the Carpathian mountains. The new advances are soon implemented across all wagons, as even a small loss in supplies can affect the Roxolani drastically.
