Sounds like the one good part about Halo 3. I forgot what it was called but it sounded just like this.

Forge?
Now this will be a nice update.
Forge?
He means the video recording thing that would temp save all of your recent games, but you could go into the theater mode and save them to your memory card/HDD. Forge is the map editor
Good god this is more exiting to me than a class update.
Also, you'll finally be able to see yourself running around in the demos when you are smoothing. At least I think and hope so.
YOUR OLD DEMOS PROBABLY WON'T WORK GUYS.
Their changing the demo file format + how the engine handles demos... It probably wont' have super-ultra backwards compatibility support.
No
They're just implementing server-side demos
And since they're server-side the files aren't horribly "corrupted" like the client-side ones, hence the support for backwards/forwards blahblahblah
Oh by the way did anyone tell them that you can't use the demo smoother with multicore on
They're fixing time scrubbing? Perfect. I had serious issues with that almost constantly-- in all of the source games I try to record in. I hope Gmod gets this update, but that's not going to happen from what I know about Garry and updates and how he doesn't do them.
Would this slow the server down? I know when I record (using Source Recorder) the game goes slower with a kind of lagginess to the controls.
Ah this should be pretty interesting...

This feature could put some extra strain on a few servers but it should not be much and not very noticeable.
When this comes out, I'm going to watch all my demo files.
Backwards.
TF2 Machinima shall be easier for me to test by myself now I suppose
Very nice update, but I'd lie if I said I wasn't expecting something else.

They're altering the demo format so that it ignores PVS and it also handles control better.

Demos have been in the source engine since... ever.
My prediction: It's going to be buggy as shit and/or there won't be any way to export to AVI.

Not an easy "Export" button anyway, you'll have to do console commands and stuff.
I will cum if I'm wrong of course. And Valve will happily swallow.
